Amy doesn’t just write, she pours her guts on the page, honestly and brutally revealing herself in the process.
Nothing is off limits.
She faces the tough topics head on and doesn’t pull punches, confronting her own demons along the way.
Her favorite question is “what if?”, and she believes fiction can be truer than our sheltered and controlled realities.
She’s a lover of music, chocolate, MMA, the beach, and cherry vanilla Coke. Most days, it’s a shock the neighbors aren’t knocking on her door, telling her to turn the music down.
It is her firm belief that everyone should have a theme song.
Originally from Arkansas, Amy currently resides in Indiana. She longs for the day when she can return to her Southern home, and write her adventures of love and war on a back porch overlooking the hills she loves.
Whoa! Amy took me on an adventure I was not prepared for with REBIRTH! I knew it was going to be action-packed, but it was so much more than that. Action, forgiveness, love, rebirthing.
It was awesome.
Though I confess I am not the biggest fan of heavy romance, it was actually one of my favorite parts of this story. I loved how real it was. There was no being fake or about how hot the other person was (yes, there is an obvious attraction that's voiced, but it was not overboard). The relationship was one of fighting together as a spiritual team, which I feel is so important in any relationship/marriage. I was so glad that Amy portrayed this in a beautiful, strong way.
Something that opened my eyes after reading this story was that spiritual warfare is ugly and brutal. REBIRTH is quite violent and at times, I didn't want to keep reading how a demon "died" or Liz (or another character) was bleeding what could be to death.
Amy gave me a reality check. Though I can't see the battle around me as Liz can, it's not glorious or beautiful as I think I have made it to be in my mind. I'm not quite sure why I thought this, but I'm thankful that Amy wrote such a gutsy novel to help me see this fact. Definitely reminds me (and what Liz learns) that on our own we cannot withstand the enemy. It's only through Christ and His strength alone that we can resist evil and really fulfill our God-given calling.
I mentioned that the romance was one of my favorite aspects of this book, but there were two scenes I didn't fill comfortable with. Nothing inappropriate, just something I didn't necessarily agree in how certain situations were personally handled.
Overall, this was a powerful, action-filled read. I am eagerly looking forward to book two and recommend REBIRTH to readers who like an edgy, thoughtful urban fantasy read.
Rebirth was an emotional and spiritual journey filled with action and romance. Liz, the main character, struggles both with her calling and with trusting God in a way that is so very realistic. The plot is well thought out and interesting with a few twists.
Exceptional read! Rebirth is filled with adventure, excitement, and a little romance. This book will grip you from page one and leave you wanting to read more.
Rebirth is a fierce literary debut from Amy Brock McNew. It's action-packed urban (small town, actually) fantasy with a strong Biblical foundation. There is plenty of violence and some suggestive content but it is clean enough for teen readers. I'm not the target audience for this kind of story and my male-oriented reading patience was tested at times (the story has a long checklist of I. Can't. Even. moments with a love triangle, flirty banter, a whole lotta kissing, and the relentless, omnipresent devotion shown to Liz by her doting family and aforementioned love interests). But hey, reading should be fun, right? And if a guy like me with little tolerance for the warm and fuzzies can read through it in a matter of days, I'm sure you're not going to be able to put it down, either.
I knew very early into the book that I loved Liz, and would be entertained while reading it, but I didn't expect to become so emotionally enthralled. Thank you, Mrs. McNew, for making my heart laugh and weep and flutter. I can't wait to meet these characters again!
What a ride! Rebirth grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go until the last page! This urban fantasy doesn't give pat answers to tough questions dealing with evil, suffering, self-worth, and real love. Although the heroine Liz Brantley is tough, she deals with all of these issues and comes out stronger. Be prepared to lose sleep -- this book is tough to put down!
What the book is about: Liz Brantley has a gift she wants to return. Able to see and fight demonic forces, she has spent her life alone, battling the minions of hell bent on her destruction, running from the God who gave her this curse. Drawn to her abilities, the demon Markus unleashes havoc on her hometown and pulls Liz further into the throes of battle. She's desperate for a normal life. When she meets a mysterious man who seems unaware of the mystical realm that haunts her, the life she's always wanted moves within reach. But her slice of normal slips from her grasp when an old flame, Ryland Vaughn, reappears with secrets of his own. Secrets that will alter her destiny. Torn between two worlds, Liz is caught in an ancient war between good and evil. And she isn't sure which side to choose.
My review:
So first off, wow, this book was amazing!
Alright, I'm gonna talk about the characters for a minute(because they are amazing): Liz is such a relatable character, you can understand what she goes through. I liked seeing how her character grew and how she became stronger throughout the book :) So...Kade, he reminds me of Kylo Ren. I don't know why, maybe it's because they both have anger issues *shrugs* but he just does lol X) Ryland, he is just amazing and <3 <3 Markus, *glares* I don't like you, just go away, shoo :P (Kade can go away as well ;P )
Now onto other stuff I liked(Which is like the whole book lol ;)
The battle scenes were amazing! Honestly this just makes me want to learn how to sword fight even more ;) The cover is so pretty to<3 :-D Something unique about this book is that the chapter names are titles to songs that inspired the chapter, which is totally cool :)
Now I'm going to hide the rest because spoilers lol, continue at your own risk! ;P
So that's all I can think to say about it right now, just go read it lol ;)
Move over Sam and Dean. The Winchesters have competition when it comes to ganking demons in one feisty package. Liz Brantley is a force to be reckoned with especially if you're a demon. Or Ryland, her ex-boyfriend turned demon slaying partner. I loved Liz from page one. She's my kind of heroine - a sword wielding girl who bakes a mean batch of cookies. And "Baby" has competition too - in the form of a sweet JEEP! Liz is a complex girl with a difficult past and a future she's not eager to embrace. Demons follow her like a bad swarm of mosquitoes. With the help of her father, Ryland, and a band of angels, Liz reluctantly embraces her gift. Amy Brock McNew takes spiritual warfare literally. Peretti's This Present Darkness was the first Christian book I read and loved it, so this genre has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Amy's version is more "Supernatural" than Peretti with the humans taking an active role in the fight between demons and angels. It's gritty but also hopeful. The book is fast-paced with action from page one to the end. In between physical battles, Liz faces internal struggles as she pieces back together her life and makes some choices that are a bit questionable. Rather than being an annoying heroine who manages to keep making the same mistakes, Liz figures out pretty fast that something isn't right and moves forward. I can't wait to read this entire series. Highly recommended if you like action and suspense.
Liz returns home after being uprooted for years, weighed down by her damaged past and feeling abandoned by God, who has chosen her to be a warrior with enhanced senses and strength and the ability to see angels and demons. Her attempts to regain a normal life are soon overturned by increasing threats from demons and the return of Ryland, the boyfriend she left but never got over. As conflict escalates and heaven and hell each vie for Liz's allegiance, she must battle both internal and external demons to come into her true power.
Rebirth pulled me in right from the start. Despite her dark past, Liz was funny and easy to relate to. The moment Ryland appeared on the scene the tension in the novel skyrocketed, and I really enjoyed the development of their relationship as they overcame the injuries and secrets of the past. The depiction of the angels and demons was vivid, and I found it fascinating to explore their various personalities. And on the whole, this book had a great balance of action, personal/spiritual growth, and romance.
I would recommend Rebirth for older teens or adults who seek inspiration to fight their own personal demons, or who just enjoy a fast-paced, action-packed read.

Wow. This book had me riveted from the opening chapter and I just couldn't put it down! I had no idea what to expect from it, and was constantly surprised, intrigued and excited to turn the page.
The characters are complex, each with their own secrets, their own difficult past, and seeing them collide together is riveting. The main character, Liz, is plagued with guilt from regrettable life choices and struggles to let go of the past and that guilt, to accept forgiveness and love. Battling demons with a gift that she doesn't want doesn't help matters any. Her story weaves faith, forgiveness, love, spiritual warfare, angels and demons into a beautiful story tapestry. Each chapter is full of intense action, powerful angels and terrifying demons. Not one moment is boring or slow!
Amy Brock McNew has crafted an intense, fascinating story that will suck you in and leave you breathless for more.
This was honestly one of the best books I have read lately! Suspense, romance, action, and all done in a clean, tasteful way. The battle between good and evil has never been more realistic than in this story...I can't wait for the next installment!
''I’d like to thank L2L2 Publishing for providing me with a review copy of Rebirth which has not influenced my opinion of this book. Took me 2 days to read this book. I loved every minute of it. (...) I can’t express how much I’m in love with this story. I’ve been needing to read a book that made me in love with its characters, a book that would make my stomach turn and fill with butterflies, a book so well written that I wouldn’t want to put it down. Kjhf fmsoighsgs. This book just gave me all the feels!!!! More people should be aware that this book exists!!! It’s so goooddd!!! Besides, I’ve added another book boyfriend to my list, Ryland, baby, you’re mine *-* Please if you like fantasy, YA and romance give this fantastic book a chance. You will not regret it.''
Action-packed ride with characters that are real! It was as if I was right there with Liz as she battled demons both internally and externally. My favorite part was the intimate look into Liz's faith walk, seeing her progression. The experience of Liz's journey, cultivated by a well-written story, holds tangible value delivered personally.
I truly loved this book. Amy you did such a great job of showing how there is good and evil in the world and how good overcomes the evil. I couldn't put the book down and can't wait to continue on with the series.
So I have to admit, I'm usually a wimp when it comes to reading book with angels and demons. However, God's light shined in this book and I was able to enjoy the theme of battling against darkness and allowing God to guide us. I also love the theme that no matter what's in your past, God's grace and mercy can overcome it and you can still be used in the battle. I look forward to reading book 2.
This is a fun read that starts out fast and never slows down (except for a few places so the read can breathe, thank you Amy Brock McNew). It reminds me of the work of Frank Peretti which puts it a rare category of supernatural Christian fiction.
Rebirth makes for an awesome debut novel from Amy Brock McNew, as well as an exciting opening installment of her series, The Reluctant Warrior Chronicles. The story is well-crafted, the characters are complex and well-developed, and the action is fast-paced. I love the way McNew portrays spiritual warfare themes manifested both in physical battles fought against the demon commander Markus and his soldiers (both human and demonic) and in internal battles as the heroine deals with choices she has made over the years and the life experiences that have brought her to this point. I really love Liz as a main character, and look forward to seeing how she progresses in the books to come. Rebirth is a fascinating read, and I am looking forward to reading Book Two of the Reluctant Warrior Chronicles.
When I read the book's description I was intrigued. I'm all for demon hunter books but this one almost turned into a preachy lesson in religion. Now that would not be bad except it did not commit one way or another with regards to being a book about religion and not being a book about religion. I feel that if you are going to take a plot like that You MUST commit to the message you are trying to get across, e.g. The Threshold series by Christa Kinde. That being said the action scenes were suburb and the romance was touching without going into the overly erotic area that books tend to go now-a-days.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I enjoy Amy's books she always has strong female characters and well developed story's! This is book one of what I think will be a fantastic series! I look forward to book 2!
This was a great way to start a series. I loved the character work that was done. The story was great and had a good flow to it. I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I've tried to start reading this twice, and both times it was incredibly painful. The writing is forced and constantly had me rolling my eyes.
A small example: Mom's face lit up. "Good! You girls go get Liz's things together." She pointed at Dylan. "You come help me make some sandwiches." A grin split Dylan's face. "Do you have any of your ham salad?" "Always." Mom winked at him, and he grinned harder. He followed her to the kitchen like a hungry puppy at suppertime. Shelley made a face. "You'd think I never feed the man!"
In one part, the main character Liz is left with a new-to-the-area man who she is attracted to. The casual way that ingrained rape culture leaked into the story was astonishing. A group of them go to the beach, but end up leaving Liz & the new guy there, with the assumption that he'll give Liz a ride home. She decides to take a walk around the lake while he stays at the beach. She hears something in the bushes and her first thought is that this guy is creeping up on her to attack/rape her. That this would be part of a Christian story *with no comment on how wrong it is that women are in the position of naturally having to worry about this* made me feel gross and depressed.
Also, Dylan exits the lake and "shook himself like a dog, flinging water all over Shelley and most of the blanket"....oh for....no one DOES that. I hate Dylan.
The story *might* pick up, but I just can't bring myself to slog through any more of this. Skip
My hopes were high, and as per usual, they were smashed to little bits. Welcome to the BlakexLizxRyland show where there is enough drama and testosterone to choke anybody (or make anybody want to get choked). It's like a telenovela with random demon attacks sprinkled throughout. Plus, it felt preachy. The MC Liz was supposed to be a strong woman, but she was as wishy-washy as they come (the cover lied!). She was just another horny girl lacking any common sense that I've seen a million times. Don't even get me started on the guys. They both claimed Liz BELONGED to them and fought over her like kids fighting over a toy. To top my misery off, the plot was utterly predictable.
If your looking for human warriors and Angels that train and guide them against a Demon forces this book has it . Liz and Ryland are the warriors and have a past can they overcome the past and do there job .
This story starts in high gear and doesn't let up until the end. Liz Brantley is gifted to see and fight demons, and she has the determination to do it. Some of the battles she throws herself into get a little too personal, and she needs to let Ryland help her, or lose herself to evil. I like how Amy used intense action to bring out Liz's inner struggles. I had to look inside myself with Liz, wondering what chains I still wear that keep me from fighting fully on God's side. I love the interaction between Liz and the angels. I've always wanted to be able to talk with them, and it was fun to experience that through her. I love how Amy portrayed the immense power of God without making victory too easy for Liz and Ryland. They still had to develop and grow as warriors in order to defeat the demons. The romance was pretty heavy throughout the book, but it was fun. At times, the dialogue seemed a little forced and the characterization was a little overemphasized. It didn't bother me much because I know and love Amy and how intense she can be. :) If you're looking for a thrilling tale of the battle between good and evil, with some romance mixed in, this is the book for you.
I’ve often wondered about the things around us that we can not see. Are there demons and angels all around us? If I had the power to see them…would I actually want to?
“Rebirth: Book One of the Reluctant Warrior Chronicles” is the story of Liz Brantley. Liz is able to see demonic forces all around her. The demons are drawn to her abilities and there is one demon in particular who wants to pull Liz deeper into the battle.
Liz wants nothing more than to be done with this war that is raging around her. When she meets Blake, she begins to believe that she may be able to live a normal life…that is until Ryland re-appears in her life with deep secrets of his own.
Caught in a battle between two worlds…which side should she choose?
The author, Amy Brock McNew weaves a tale about an unseen battle that rages around us each and everyday. As Liz accepts her role as a Warrior we sense her longing for another life, but when push comes to shove she does what needs to be done.
“Rebirth” is the tale of “Heaven verses Hell”, that will keep you captivated from beginning to end. A story that is filled with action packed fight scenes, romance and betrayal.
The chapters are the perfect length for reading just before bed. You know the kind I’m talking about. Just short enough that you believe you can read “just one more” before bed.
“Rebirth” has a lesson for us all about accepting the gifts that God has given us and using them to his glory. All too often we look on the gifts that God gives us as a curse. We don’t want to use them because it’s difficult or we are scared. We may never know God’s plan for us, but we need to trust that God’s plan is far better for us than any plan we could have for ourselves!
*Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of "Rebirth" from Love2ReadLove2Write Publishing in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% my own.
A Christian supernatural book that is similar to some of Frank Peretti books. In an epic battle between light and darkness, Liz is forced to make several decisions: a new boyfriend or an old flame (both make promises to Liz but which one has her best interest at heart); to partake in the battle brewing between light and dark (is she even worthy to serve God) and who can she trust? A book that's tough to set down.
