So...about Elizabeth George. This is the third book I've read by her in a year. I do so, because I find her very encouraging and she always has great tips on how to let God's Word influence your life more and manage your time.
But there are some things she says, I just can't agree on and I think they are even dangerous. In my opinion, her focus is too much on the to do rather than on the rest in what is true. Sure, George preaches the love of God and that it is the reason why we should be obedient and not the other way around, but she also writes that we should be always doing something as women, always be active, always try to do one more thing. That is not a healthy way of living. And there have been many Christians who fell into burnout because of such teachings. There is a time to rest and even a need to rest. There is freedom to just sit down and enjoy a good book. There is goodness in enjoying something for yourself as a gift from God. I've been a slave to the opinion that I can enjoy nothing if it is not to the benefit of others much too long and it cost me so much joy. Of course we shouldn't run around only pleasing ourselves, but it is important to rest and enjoy what God has given you, may it be a good book, a hobby or relationships, etc...
She also says that depression is something we can simply decide against and that is simply an uniformed, hazardous position on the matter. From my own experience I know that there are times in your life, you can't decide against depression. Sure if you just feel a little down from time to time, there are things you can do about it, - but depression is a whole different topic and we have to be very careful as christians not to give others superficial and shortsighted advice on something so complex and hard to go through if we haven't experienced it ourselves.
All in all I enjoyed the book, it talks a lot about how God showed up for people in the Bible and helped them overcome difficulties and that we can trust him. But it didn't touch me deeply and because of the mentioned problems I had with parts of it, I will give George a rest for now.
Fabulous, from beginning to end. Such amazing truths and anchors in this book for women desiring to live a godly life. I love all of Elizabeth George, and this book was no different than the others I have read as far as truth and encouragement are considered! I am always challenged to live a life pleasing and honoring to God when reading her books, and she encourages readers in practical ways! And always with Scripture to back up her statements. Phenomenal :)
Elizabeth George delivered a whirlwind of a book in this one. It’s very relatable and contains practical steps on following God through a focus on his word, overcoming fear, renewing our perspectives and understanding that God is responsible for you.
I love the book and added it to my yearly reading list

I thought this book had a lot of good, general principles for walking out a Christian lifestyle. I like Elizabeth George as a Christian author, but I think nothing can top A Woman After God's Own Heart. However, I like to keep up with her writing because I feel like she is the perfect author for busy wives and moms (which I happen to be). Her chapters are not too long, which means you can read one in the odd five or ten minutes of free time you might happen upon in your day and she doesn't go too in depth on any of her points, relating her advice and wisdom in such a way that you don't have to wade through a lot of complicated wording and theology. This book was good, but if you're looking to start with Elizabeth George, definitely go for A Woman After God's Own Heart.
3.5 stars... I read this book with my Bible study group this spring semester. It has good, solid insight into Biblical truths and sparked excellent discussion in our group. I found the structure very readble overall, but it led to some repetition. I also found some of her examples to be a bit of a stretch--like she wanted to prove a point and found something in the Bible that kind of worked and went with it. I think I was put off a bit the start when her first example was how to be a successful woman, although she never really defined success (and it has so many varied meanings in our culture.) In spite of that, it is worth reading, especially in the context of a small group.
This is a great book to read. Elizabeth George speaks about a lot of internal issue that I think all women face especially when it comes to being in relationship with God.
I learned a great deal from this book. In all our serving for God, we must follow His leading for us. He should be at the heart of us and what He has called us to do.
Read Invitation last year. Am on P 11 will use this as daily devotion Have finally picked the book up again on chapter 7 P 78 P79 to read Joshua 1 v 2-9
