This is the first book in the Dragon Mates series and part of the Reckless Desires set which is a multi-author set. It is around 120 or so pages long, and it is for adults only due to the steamy scenes.

I loved this book and couldn’t put it down. I haven’t found anything written my J.K. Harper that I haven’t enjoyed. This is one of my favorites. I love Lacey’s determination and dedication to her work. Sebastian was burned and now thinks all women are like the one who burned him. This shifter world is unique, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I highly recommend this book to any shifter lover especially if you are partial to fire breathing dragons! I can’t wait to see what J.K. fires up next!

Trust Your Heart

This is the first book of this wonderful series, it gives us a look into the history of the Bernal family of dragon shifters who migrated from Spain to California in the US.

Sebastian Bernal descendant of the Bernal family holds all that is his family history dear to his heart. He is a multi billionaire, owner of The Bernal Institute where he exhibits what is his family's history from their time in Spain centuries ago to their migration to the US What the public doesn't know is the very deep secret that is Sebastian Antonio Bernal. He plays the billionaire playboy to the hilt, but will not give or trust his heart to any 1 woman since having been hurt by one years ago. Why he feels such a pull towards his head curator he will not accept and convinces himself that one night with the lovely Lacey will suffice. His Dragon feels differently, but Sebastian will not listen to him. Will he lose the only woman for him, his true treasure because of 1 woman's treachery? Lacey is the missing treasure to his hoard, only Sebastian has to realize it. He must learn to trust again even if it tears him apart.

The first love scene was just a straight up sex scene with no romance at all. Then suddenly they are in insta-love. he's an arrogant guy who is only interested in bedding her until he realizes she is his mate. Then he starts romancing her, only to jump to conclusions and accuse her of betraying him on circumstantial evidence less than a day later, without even asking her any questions. Fine, they worked it out in the end, but it was a very annoying story, and he's not very likable at all. Frankly I couldn't understand why she supposedly loves him. The only thing they had between them was attraction as far as I could see.

Dragon shifters are my favorite pnr, especially with a dragon H and human h. Unfortunately, this one didn't work for me.

The characters and the storyline are shallow and one-dimensional. Little background detail is given and current events felt rushed over. Because of that, there nothing whatsoever unique about the book to set it apart from a hundred other shifter/mate trope books. It was predictable from beginning to end.

I had major problems with the way the scene with the antagonist played out. Malcom rmains on the doorstep while Sebastion confronts him at the door. When Malcom shifts and takes flight to go after Lacy, instead of taking two steps outside and shifting to follow, Sebastion turns and runs in human form all the way back through his enormous house, down long hallways, cursing the fact he can't shift while inside his house because it is too small. It was stupid and obviously written that way only to give Malcom enough of a head start to get away with Lacy. If he'd had half a brain he would have gone out the open door right in front of him.
Then, during the aerial battle while Malcolm is clutching a very human Lacy, Sebastian keeps breathing fire at him and finally blasts him with a huge firestorm that turns Malcom crispy. While holding Lacy. Who survives the whole ordeal with nothing more than tangled hair. Apparently she became fireproof somewhere along the way.

The book gets 2 stars instead of 1 because the editing was passable. It wasn't great, but I have certainly read worse. I'm glad this was free.

The first book in the ‘Dragon Mates’ series is a cute and suspenseful story with a surprising romance that readers’ can enjoy from start to finish. The characters are strong and compelling with the heroine being a successful woman and the dragon being a billionaire with an agenda. The chemistry between them sizzles and the passion rocks although neither is thinks their relationship is possible.

The plot is fast paced and keeps readers engaged throughout with suspense and passion and although this story could benefit with a bit more fleshing out of the details or a bit added story surrounding the evil dragon and his agenda, the story is a delightful, quick read with a beguiling view of dragons.

Lacey works as a curator at a museum owned by Sebastian. And he is a stunning specimen of manhood. She has had the hots for him ever since she started working for him. They also work in close contact becaue of the collection she is working on - it is so interesting for Lacey and of a deep personal interest for Sebastian. But Sebastian also has a deep dark secret. What will Lacey do when she finds out? Terrific story and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sebastian also proves to be a most valiant hero. I absolutely relished this story as it was a most entertaining read, and so look forward to reading more of the Dragon Mate stories. If you treasure shifter romance this is a terrific book for your library. {I was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review}. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservations I recommend this book.

Sebastian is a multi billionaire dragon shifter, from an old California Hispanic family, originally from Spain. He allowed his dragon hoard of gold to be partially pillaged by a female dragon over a hundred years ago and swore he would never trust a woman again. Lacey is a curator of old Californio history at the museum owned and run by Sebastian, she has feelings for him, but wants to remain professional for 2 reasons, one to keep her job, and two because Sebastian wines and dines a different woman every night, and she refuses to be a one night stand and possibly ruin her career at the same time. The two get close when Lacey is made head curator on a very important project, but still she keeps her distance. What neither of them knows is there are forces pushing them towards each other, one good, one evil. The only question remaining is which side will win. Do they get their HEA, or does evil win out and completely destroy not only their chance at true love, but Sebastian 's chance at life, for without his family hoard intact, he could die just as his parents had years before. This is a brilliantly written, sexy shifter story with several twists until the very end.. Get ready to be dazzled, 5 GOLD TREASURES

OH YOU HAVE NO IDEA! Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, can dazzle me with their SHIFTACULAR stories like J.K. can, and does, with every single book of hers that I read!! But to be DRAGON DAZZLED?!? That is a PRECIOUS TREASURE in itself!! Just like J.K. and her stories are! I love how funny, hot, unique, magical, romantic and just how DRAGONLICIOUS this story is! It has everything I love in my shifter stories, including some FANGTASTIC dialogue between Sebastian & his Dragon!! I ABSO-DRAGON-LUTELY LOVE the world building, the character development, how multifaceted they are, the history in the book as well as the characters, the Dragon history, varying types of dragons, their own rules, laws, abilities.. ALL OF IT!! Thankfully, the sky is definitely NOT the limit for J.K.!! With her phenomenal talent and her true gift, J.K. creates the exact kind of enriched stories that I love to get lost in, that I can't help but to get lost in! Ok, here we go again. Sebastian Bernal is mega-rich, beyond movie-star handsome, and he's a dragon shifter. Lacey is a new hire at the Bernal family's gift to the world - a museum dedicated to early California (and their family's) history. He's attractive and interested; she's not risking her career to sleep with the boss, but... So far, it's pretty predictable standard PNR, dragon version. Yes, the seduction is hot and the sex is hotter. The characters are a bit stereotypical, but still believable (Lacey's bitchy co-worker is a standout). The most interesting thing about Dazzled is the plot and the backstory that emerges with it. Sebastion is a dragon who has lost his treasure hoard - a virtual death sentence for dragon shifters, since their powers are tied to their treasure. His very life is on the line, and magic, in the form of Lacey and the ancient artifact she's restoring for him, is the means to a surprising end. Of course, it's HEA, because this is PNR, but what a trip it is to get there. I enjoyed some the California historical background, and the backstory is compelling enough that I'm reading the sequel.

This is a wonderful story of a distrustful dragon shifter denying his real attraction to his mate.

Received an ARC for review. Ultimately I think this is a good buy and a good start to the series. I hope to see a second book soon! Sebastian isn't my favorite H but I do love his intensity. What I don't like in stories like this the fact that Sebastian has had other "encounters" with other women while he gets to know Lacey and is attracted to her. (That part isn't written - just know before this story begins) I know I'm being picky here! And I understand why he didn't recognize things before but it still nags at me. I sort of wish Lacey had lashed out a bit more and the conclusion had been drawn out a bit more, showcasing more of their connection. What I liked was the historical side of things and the action/danger scene. I will surely be looking to read further in the series!

Received this book for an honest review.

Really enjoyed reading Dazzled as it was not the standard dragon story. Yes, it has lust, and more lust, greed and danger but still it was different.

Lacey is in lust with the owner of the center but she does not act on the attraction initially and then she become the pawn of a sinister character.

Sebastian is a classic black dragon bent on finding his families lost dragon treasure. He does not trust any woman after he is betrayed and this distrust will leave him vulnerable to this enemy.

I hope their story continues in the next book but this cannot be then end.

Amazing as always!! J.K. Harper brings us into her new series with a bang.

When dragon shifter Sabastian Bernal finds his mate will he realize what she means to him before it's to late? Or will his distrust of women cloud his judgment to the point that he loses her? This sensuous tale is full of fire and mystery and definitely well worth the time to kick back an read. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this story and look forward to reading more in this series.

This was an ok book about a dragon shifter. The book was short and I think a few more areas could have been expanded on but due to the length it was not. If you can get this book for free or .99 it would be worth it. I am not sure if I will continue this series.

Dazzled is a tantalizing, sexy, tension filled romance that if you happen to love dragon shifters you will not want to miss.

Sebastian is an unbelievably wealthy man, the owner of a museum that showcases the past of his family and early California. He is also a dragon shifter who has spent years searching for his family’s stolen treasures which tie into his dragon powers, and his life itself. One of his best finds was hiring Lacey as a curator at his museum. Her love for the items she authenticates and displays is equal to his own love for these items in many ways. She’s is hiding a sexy body beneath clothing that is beyond professional, but that hasn’t stopped his interest. So far his need for her professional expertise has overridden his desire to make her one of his many conquests. Sebastian will never again give his heart or his trust to any woman… but sex, that he can do very well.

Lacey loves her job, so much so that she is constantly ignoring the attraction she feels for her boss’s boss, Sebastian. There is simply something about that man that draws her and she knows she’s fighting a losing battle against his playboy ways but she’s holding back as long as she can. When Sebastian finally ignores his good intentions and makes his move neither understand just how life changing that will be for them both. For Lacey is his mate, and he’s sworn to never trust another woman, ever.

Dazzled is gripping and sexy, there is no doubt about that. There is also hidden dangers that Lacey doesn’t understand, and that will blindside Sebastian in his most vulnerable part, his heart. Watching these two fall for each other in every possible way was a delight. And if I cringed when Sebastian reacted badly, then it was because I knew what he didn’t. Evil will always play a part, Lacey has some big decisions to make but in reality it truly is a decision only her heart can make.

I enjoyed this story very much, it definitely has heat, heart and enjoyable characters. I’d recommend this story and the series for any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. You’ll find a thrilling story, likable characters, high steam rates and a lovely romance.

We meet Lacey, who curates a museum of a billionaire, as she is talking about her attraction to her boss with a friend. He comes from California old money and has quite a reputation as a playboy. She fantasizes about him but knows he wouldn't be interested in an academic like her. Also, she wouldn't want to be just another of his for-the-night-only women, as that seems to be about the duration of his relationships. We meet Sebastian as he is flying from San Francisco to Los Angeles. But he isn't doing this on an airplane. Nope, he's a dragon shifter. He's just bought an old piece from his family's history that had been stolen and is happily taking it back home. As he flies, he can't seem to stop thinking about Lacey. He is definitely attracted to his curator.

This book has such over-the-top language used to describe the attraction between the couple and their appearance that the story almost seems to be a spoof, a send-up of not only the romance genre in general but of shifter romance, paranormal romance, billionaire romance, and boss romance. To me, it reads like a parody of all those genres, exploiting the language and tropes of those types of stories. I don't know if this was intentional by the author or if this is just her writing style. Other than being overblown, the writing itself is relatively solid and easy to get into. She has a good sense of pacing, as climactic even happened when they should. She did need a few more nouns and verbs, though, to describe how a particular undergarment became moist, or perhaps she could have chosen not to use that image so much. Surprisingly, the intimate moments aren't as often as one might imagine, although there are lots of heated gazes and imaginings before their attraction comes to full fruition.

Lacey and Gabi were best friends and both adored ancient this and preserving cultural history. Gabi preserved the past by literally diving into oceans to save it. Lacey preserved the past by curating objects in the museum she worked at, safe and sound on dry land. Both still trying to build their success and climb their corporate ladders. And according to Gabi, Lacey Whitman was a bombshell who hid it behind the clothes of a librarian and had a geeky passion for old California history and cultural artifacts. Sebastian Antonio Bernal was the stuff female wet dreams were made of. Tall and built, very masculine, graced the cover of magazines, witty charm, tremendous power, and of course vast amounts of wealth that landed him on the most eligible bachelor's list every single year, not that he had any interest in that what so ever. What wasn't common knowledge, was Sebastian was a dragon shifter who was on a personal quest to purchase and reclaim antique artifacts stolen from his family's hoard over one hundred years ago. JK Harper has created a storyline with all the suspense and intrigue of a mystery and the steamy undercurrent needed to a romance. Add in the fact that our Hero is a super-hot dragon shifter and you have a storyline worth swooning over. The plot is woven seamlessly and as we're taken through the adventure and angst of the story, we're pulled further in and along with each page. This was a great read.

All that matters to him is that he track down his ancestors’ stolen treasures -- gold objects are filled with the essence of his own power which he must regain or he will die.

Lacey Whitman is dedicated to her all-consuming work. She has no time to waste on men, except for one irresistible man – Sebastian, with hidden secrets in his eyes. Lacey is Sebastian’s mate and her presence will be highly disruptive to his oath to recover his family’s legacies by whatever means necessary, as well as to the stubbornness of his shattered heart. Will he allow the woman he can’t stop thinking of to heal him? Will he trust her and give her a chance to make him whole again?

This author is excellent at providing really good paranormal stories. And with dragons in it, all the better! The characters are depicted very well and the interaction is very believable. The story line is interesting to the reader, with the difficult task of tracking down stolen treasure or facing the threat of death. This tension that keeps the story moving quickly along. Grab your copy and find out what happens to them!

Lacey procured a fantastic job at the Bernal Museum.She;s been there a year and has had a moment or two of attraction toward her boss but pulls back relying on her professionalism to surface. It is hard when he;s very handsome and well mannered and gentlemanly. Sebastian, unknown to all, is a dragon shifter. He;s held himself in check using women when needed. He;s earned his reputation as a playboy and will continue to so. His best friend tries to tell him to get over Melusine;s deceit and move on. Something that Sebastian isn;t willing to do. Then his attraction to Lacey starts to get out of control. He believes one night with her will undo whatever hold she seems to have on him. Lurking in the shadows is a master manipulator who was in cahoots with Melusine and is now going to try to use Lacey to take total control over Sebastian. When the two finally come together, their togetherness is sullied by Malcolm Kerberos, another dragon shifter who loves to manipulate and destroy.
Fantastic story and read that will have you holding your breathe till the last page!!

Fluffy, fun read, and I'll probably check out the next book - but the writing seemed a bit sloppy to me.

Examples:
1. There were missing words here and there, so you have to mentally fill in something like the 'at' in a sentence.
2. The hero has been described repeatedly as a playboy with a different woman nearly every night, there is zero mention of condoms or any kind of birth control when they have sex. *Totally* unrealistic for possible consequences not to cross her mind, either before or after.
3. They've already been together the first time, and they're started to get busy again, and (explicit bit here) her "freshly shaved" business is revealed, and they just go on. No reaction from him, nothing from her, so what was the point of throwing that in there?
4. So the first time she sees a dragon is when the bad guy swoops in and kidnaps her, and the dragon is described as ugly and slimy feeling. Well, why? Are all fire type dragons ugly and slimy, or is this just cheap shortcut? She would still have been freaked out without that.

Wow what a great first book in this series Dragon's Mate.
I really like the characters,
Dragon shifter Sebastian Bernal has been hurt in his past that makes me very guarded. A woman was good on his arm for partying and a night in his bed but then its time to move on. He will not be hurt again!. Lacey Whitman works at Sebastian's museum and she is so driven. Works well into the night most nights to get the job done just right. She has no social life other than her best friend and nights at the museum. Lacey has felt a pull to Sebastian but she doesn't want to mix business and pleasure. Sebastian has tried to get Lacey in his men with sexual banter but still no joy, his dragon keeps calling out she is his mate but Sebastian will not listen. Until one night everything changes.
There is so much more happening and I don't want to give everything away so I will say this book will Dazzle you. The storyline is great and I found myself going through most emotions. A Fantastic read!!!!

Initial thoughts: this felt like we as readers started in a middle of romance book instead of at the beginning. The hero and heroine had known each other for a year already and the hero was just denying that she was his mate that whole time. The book felt like it took place over just two days for most of it and they fell in love (or maybe already were and just admitted it to themselves in this book?) idk it just didn’t seem like we got to see their relationship grow as it seemed to happen off the page during that year we read about them knowing each other and then out of the blue one weekend things just escalated and then they were in love and he was sharing that he was a dragon shifter 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also the characters didn’t seem bad or anything and it wasn’t necessary badly written or anything it just was rushed I guess? Idk didn’t float my boat for a dragon shifter / mate book.

I did buy all three of these books at once so I’m going to give books 2 & 3 a chance but I just hope they’re a bit better than this one.

Just Okay

Hmm 🤔 I didn’t like this dragon shifter romance as much as the others I’ve read. It took place in the everyday world not a fantasy world and it affected the story for me. I usually love boss to lovers relationships but both characters felt one dimensional. My favorite part of shifter romance is reading the inner beast’s feelings and it was thoroughly lacking in this one.

Lacey is a curator at a museum of California history and was hired by the owner Sebastian over a year ago. Sebastian has been betrayed by women so even though his dragon knows Lacey is his mate, he’s been fighting it for a long time. There is undeniable chemistry between them though but Lacey has no idea he’s a dragon shifter or that shifters even exist. Will it scare her away and can Sebastian learn to trust Lacey like his dragon does?

Nothing about this book made me want to read more or read subsequent books in this series yet I don’t feel like I wasted my time reading it.

Sebastian is everything that a woman could want, sexy, intelligent, and rich. Lacey was so excited to land the job as a curator with Sebastian Bernal’s. She’s dedicated to her work and doesn’t have time for a relationship with her boss, no matter how much they flirt or how hot he is. Sebastian flirts, but is not looking for a relationship or a mate, especially not after being burned from the last woman he let in his life. He’s looking for his family’s missing Dragon treasures. How long can he stay away from Lacey and how long can she stand her ground not to date her boss. This is a good, quick read and I will be reading the second book in the series. I received an ARC and am happy to voluntarily leave a review.
