Oblivion - Lichtflüstern

Rate this book
Warum bist du so stark? Wie kannst du dich so schnell bewegen? Was BIST du?

Daemon Black is back!!!! and I'm over here like...

You're probably thinking "wow, Angela isn't this a little over kill??"... NO. NO ITS NOT!
I've been waiting for this! I asked for this the second I finished Opposition. I love Aliens. I love hot guys. And I more than love when the two are combined. I usually hate when authors re-release books from another POV. Feel like it's a waste of time. This was not a problem with Oblivion. I was more than happy using my evening reliving events with one of my favorite fictional book booboos.

Before Reading:
I have to admit that I hate when authors write their most popular book with a different POV and make money out of that. I just think they are getting advantage of people who would do anything to read more about their favourite characters.

That being said, I AM TOTALLY BUYING THIS BOOK.

I'm ridiculously in love with Daemon Black AND I HAVE TO READ anything that involves him.

Also Daemon and Kat warm my cold, dead heart.

---------------

After Reading:

Obsidian: 2.5
Onyx: 3
Opal: 3.5

Well, I thought I would like this more. I just remember everything that happened in the first 3 books so I was... bored at times. I would recommend you to read this after you forget what happens in the first 3 books a little. (At least some of the scenes)
I can't tell you how much I wanted to read that last chapter of Opal for years and I'm glad that I've finally read that but overall? I wasn't that impressed. I was glad to have a little more time with Daemon though.
I've always known Jennifer L. Armentrout's writing is cheesy and engaging, but now I find it juvenile and cringe worthy. I don't know why! I think I've just read too much JLA.
Her stories are so fun to read but I'm just not... loving them anymore.

After that horrible realization I would still recommend for all the Daemon Black fans to read this. Because he is awesome and everyone knows it. (Including himself)

Daemon’s POV and in a way he will make you fall in love with him all over again.

You will laugh with his first impression of Kate:

I sized her up as I drifted silently through the trees. She appeared of average height. Actually, everything about her seemed average....
..... My head cocked to the side at the sound of her voice, which was also…average.

You will roll your eyes with his description about himself:

My green eyes were a family trait and my hair tended to curl a bit on the ends whether I wanted it to or not, but my six-foot-something awesome frame and movie-star good looks—well those just fit my stellar personality.

And you will feel sad when you meet again alive all the characters that you know they will die later on in the story...

The book has more than one thousand pages and three parts:
1. “Oblivion “ , i.e. Daemon' POV for Obsidian
2. Untitled, Daemon's POV for Onyx
3. Untitled, Daemon's POV for Opal

The most interesting part was surely Oblivion, because Obsidian was the book in which Daemon kept the most secrets from Katy. It was nice to see the way he was thinking and how much Katy influenced him.
The other two parts were a bit repetitive in comparison to the original books, but I didn't mind too much. It was like reading again a book that you love.

This happened....

What can I say about this? It is as good I as I had hoped it would be. It's totally Daemon Black. I loved it.

Here's the thing with retelling for me, there needs to be something more. Simply retelling a story from a different characters POV doesn't hold my interest. I know what's going to happen. I need more. This one was more.

Yes there are scenes that Katy wasn't part of that we see in this book. Thankfully, not every scene we had before is redone with Daemon's POV. Some are summarized. But most of all, there is this transformation that takes place in Daemon's head. And that is what I loved about his book.

Daemon has good reason to want to keep Katy away from Dee and the rest of the colony. Of course, he does that with his normal charm and style...hehe. But what is coming out of his mouth doesn't tell the whole story. He doesn't understand what it is about Katy that keeps him making mistakes. Why he can't leave her alone. Yeah, Dee is part of it but there is several times that he uses that excuse and keeps going back. He doesn't know why. And that's where this transformation takes place. From knowing he should stay away...to not being able to stay away but trying to...to realizing he doesn't want to stay away at all. And I loved it. And it's all done with typical Daemon Black charm.

Of course you will want to read this if you are a Lux fan. I can't wait for the eBook to come so I can read more! The print book only contains what would be Obsidian and I NEED more.

Some favorite scenes: The whole convincing her to go swimming with him...not what I was expecting. The trip to the used bookstore! When Dee told him Katy accepted a date with Simon! When he saw her in the red dress! And so many, many more.

Don't miss this one and don't put it off till later.

Oblivion is a companion novel (#1.5) in Jennifer L. Armentrout's young-adult paranormal series titled Lux. It's been a long while since I read the first book Obsidian so I knew I would need to re-read it before continuing the series. But look what came just in time...

Think Obsidian from Daemon's point of view. There were some new scenes but the majority of the content is the story you know but flipped perspectives. For me having read Obsidian so long ago, this was perfect. My memory got caught up enough to continue the series and I am now able to scratch another title off of my TBR list.

JLA... I love you. And the series... This changes nothing. I just couldn't really love this book, it's not you, it's me. I hate different POV books, it just seems to me it was purely a retold book in Daemons perspective. Nothing new was brought to the story for me... And if anything, I began to doubt my love for the original books. Now, I couldn't have that! So, with my long awaited release of Oblivion, I close the book. In my eyes, the Lux series will forever live on in the eyes of Katy.

5 freaking stars!!!<3

That girl was trouble wrapped up in a tiny package
complete with a freaking bow.And worse yet,
she was just the kind of trouble I liked!

I can't describe how I felt when I discover this book....no words... just feelings....
description

I never wanted someone as much as I wanted Kat

I had a HUGE ASS grinning the whole time I was reading Daemon's thoughts about Katy...
When I read the "Lux" series I wanted sooo badly to know what Daemon was thinking or feeling from the first time he saw Katy...and here we go...
I loved Daemon even when he was an ass but now I was in his head and I understood his worries and the feelings he was trying so hard to fight for his family and the other Luxens too.

That I'm lucky, because the person I can't get out of my head, the person
who means more to me than I can stand is still alive.
She's still there.And that's you!

Although the story is the same I think it's kind of refreshing because of Daemon's POV now we know what he was thinking and why he was behaving the way he did! Also there are some scenes we haven't read before...So now we have the whole story...

"Say it."
"Say what?"
"Tell me what you told me earlier."
"I love you."
"That's all I ever need to hear."
"Those three words?"
"Always those three words!"

Daemon&Katy's love story...from the first kiss...
description

The 'Lux" series was the first series I've ever read and is my favorite so far!So this book just completed the pieces that were missing now that we have Daemon's dirty thoughts about his little Kitten...

I love you,Katy.Always have.Always will."

Enjoy my loves more Daemon!xxx

(Note: I am going to read the paperback copy, then, at some point, read the ebook version; it is Daemon, and experiencing Obsidian, Onyx, and Opal is a must.)

I finished the paperback version (with only Obsidian from Daemon's point view), and as soon as I can read the digital copy (with Onyx and Opal from his point of view included), then I won't hesitate to start it.

OBSIDIAN from Daemon's point of view

I don't know why I love Daemon so much -- he is a jerk a lot of the time -- but I guess it's because, deep down, he is a good guy. Seeing everything -- and more -- that we saw through Katy's perspective originally from his instead was ... well, interesting is an understatement. You see him in a different light. Although, I'm not going to lie: it enraged me when he was being the biggest asshole, especially to Katy. But I understand: he wants to protect his sister. By the end ... well, I wanted more, but I was satisfied enough ... until I can read the next two books from his point of view.

This book is the first three books from the Lux series from Daemon's POV, well at least the e-book is. If you got the actual book it's just Obsidian instead. We get to see his thoughts and the reasoning behind all his actions. My favorite of the three novels is the retelling of Obsidian, I mean they are all great but there is just something about the first one that is my favorite. That is because well the action is mainly all from Katy's POV and it shows, to me this drags a little at some points well as in the original ones there was lots of actions.

But it's so great to get more of Daemon as he's my favorite book boyfriend to date. I adore him! I mean he's caring, romantic, understanding, protective, sexy, powerful, sweet, strong, funny, and thoughtful. Why would you ever need more?! You wouldn't, ever. He's perfect.

So lastly, if you love Daemon or the Lux series at all, then you will love this, I recommend getting and reading this if you haven't already. It's well worth it to get a Daemon Black fix!

Genre: YA Paranormal Romance

The sexual tension is way too much.

Seperti aku bilang diatas, buku ini buat fans garis keras Daemon Black, it means kayak aku.

It was fun reading Daemon's POV when he first met Katy. His POV of everything that happened in Obsidian felt "new" to me and not like a simple "copy paste job" as my friend Ami said. Or it might be because I read that one a looong time ago so it felt that way. But I really enjoyed it a lot! Oh and Daemon seems to be a bigger douche than I initially thought. :))

I have to say though that his POVs of Onyx and Opal aren't necessarily a must read. I felt like they were pretty much the same as the original books and since I already knew what happened, I wasn't as interested.

Ok, before I start this review, I just want to say that this might be a horrible review. I know my timing is really bad because I have two exams tomorrow. Although I studied since the beginning of the semester, I am scared. I feel really pressured and have been studying for hours. So I decided to take a break and that break includes writing a review. :) I'm sorry I just couldn't help myself. I finished this book two days ago but everything is so crazy and I really wanted to write a review.

My reading experience with this book wasn't great to be honest. I'm not saying that this book was bad, I am trying to say that I read this when I felt really depressed. But luckily, after reading this book, I felt so much better. I feel like books are my therapy because they take me away from this world of stress and judgments from different people. I was reading this book and crying and suddenly, I forgot about myself because I was so into the story. Anyway, enough with my moody, depressing talk and on with the review! I need to finish this and get back to studying, I feel like i am making a huge mistake but oh well....

“Will you show me what you really look like? You don't sparkle, do you?”

I loved this series so much and I was so sad when the series ended. I enjoyed it so much but I avoided the series for so long because of the book covers. But in the end, it always ended up on my recommendation list so I decided to give it a shot. And I regretted all the days that I wasted because I missed out on so much. I wish the book covers have something other than a girl and boy all over each other. Anyway, I never knew that Oblivion was coming out and when it did, I was so excited. I ran to the library and got a copy as soon as possible!

My reaction to the release of Oblivion!:

Christ, are you secretly a ninja?”

If you haven't heard about the Lux series, it is basically about a girl named Kat who moves away. Her new home is not as normal as she thought it was because of her mysterious neighbors. After meeting a girl named Dee a super jumpy girl, Kat is excited to finally have made friends and felt like she could blend into her new home. That is until she meets Dee's older brother Daemon, the guy who wants nothing to do with Kat. Daemon wants Dee away from Kat, he seems over-protective and hates Kat. Kat does not know why Daemon hates her and why she can't be friends with Dee. She feels confused and curious, and is kind of attracted to someone she might hate. :) What is wrong with her neighbors and why are they so mysterious?

“You look like you got more of a bath than the car. I never
thought washing a car would be so hard, but after watching you for the last fifteen minutes, I’m convinced it should be an Olympic sport.”

I have always wanted to re-read this series because I missed the world and the characters. I missed everything about this series. But I couldn't re-read it because there were so many books that were coming out. I bought Winter and I haven't read it yet, I want to so badly but there is so much going on. Anyway, I was so happy that this book came out because it gave me an excuse to return back into a world I loved. Plus, it was in Daemon's point of view which makes it even better!

“I bet you think things through, right? Accept candy from strangers and get into vans with a sign that reads free Kittens?”

When I was reading this book, it made me remember how I felt about this book. It made me remember how much I enjoyed reading it.

I remember that one of the reasons of why I loved this series was because of how funny it was. It was hilarious and I couldn't stop laughing at everything. The characters were hilarious and I loved how everyone bonded. It was hard to hate characters because most of them were awesome and their dialogue was amazing.

“I was always able to lose myself in reading. Books were a necessary escape I always gladly jumped into headfirst.”

I remember that while I was reading this book, I was at a party. I had an exam in two days and I wanted to review. But I was stranded in this party, and a bunch of people that I didn't know were judging me. They were making me do things that I didn't want to do. I wanted to leave so badly but I couldn't. Luckily, I packed this book and it saved me. I couldn't bear another minute in this world. I needed an escape just like Kat. And I read and read, and before I knew it, the book was finished and my family was ready to leave. I am bring this up now because I was interrupted a lot while I was reading. And I was super annoyed and that is one of the reasons why my reading experience wasn't that great.

All I was thinking was:

“You look like you're twelve. No. Maybe thirteen, but my sister has this doll that kinda reminds me of you. All big-eyed and vacant.”

I highly recommend this book series to everyone! The first book is Obsidian and this is the last book in the series, and it's basically a retelling of the first book in Daemon's pov. If you have read the Lux series, you NEED to read this book, it is totally worth it and we get some of the missed scenes in the first book because it's from Daemon's pov. Now, I have to get back and study. This review may be horrible... And I'm sorry because this book deserves a better review...

Prior to picking this book up, I didn't realize that it was "Obsidian" (Book 1 in the series) from Daemon's perspective. As "Obsidian" was probably my favourite novel in the series, it was not a disappointment.

I really enjoyed this read but I can understand if others think it was unnecessary. Typically, I don't read many books where it's a repeated story told from a different character perspective. I know they are out there (examples being: the Fifty Shades of Grey series told from Christian's perspective and Twilight told from Edward's) but if I read the story once, I don't often want to read it again unless it's a favourite. Even then, I would want to reread the novel that made it a favourite if that makes sense.

Anyway, for fans of this series (and fans of Daemon Black) I would recommend this read. I actually read it after completing the series as a whole and I really enjoyed that reading experience. I wouldn't necessarily recommend readers to read this immediately after "Obsidian" as I think it would take away some of the thrill and unknown of the...developing relationship in the future books (I'm not saying anything beyond that).

You know what I forgot?? There's a few pages at the end of this book where Luc and Paris talk. First time I read this, I didn't think anything of it. Now, the name Evelyn Dasher means so much more that The Darkest Star is out!! Jen, you're so sneaky. You've had this idea in your head for years, didn't you?!?

**********

Anyway, Daemon will always be one of the best book boyfriends and reading the first 3 books from his point of view is a lovely addition to this series, especially as I'm rereading the whole series in preparation for The Darkest Star. There's little parts that aren't in the main series and we see the depth of his feelings for his Kitty Kat 😍 a must read for any fan of the series and this world!

Oblivion was gripping, emotional and I loved every minute of it! So when I started reading that very first page I found myself crying. I was so happy to be back in a world with characters that I absolutely loved with my whole heart. Four years later and the Lux Series is still my favorite series and Daemon Black still holds the number one spot as my favorite book boyfriend ever. So the fact that we got to hear the first three Lux books in Daemon Black's voice?! It was priceless. Oblivion was completely perfect and this book is for everyone out there that loved The Lux Series!
“Why…?” Her voice cracked. “Why do you hate me so much?”
My control slipped for a moment, and I flinched. I didn’t hate her. God, I wished I did, but I didn’t, and seeing the tears building in her eyes killed me.

From the moment Daemon saw Katy, I had the hugest grin on my face. No matter how hard he tried to not like or be around her, it was all so futile. He constantly found himself drawn to her. And I loved listening to his internal struggle, because Dawson was a constant reminder of why he shouldn't be around Katy. But right from the start of the book we saw what a huge heart Daemon had. He was such a good guy. There was no guessing his motives or what he was thinking, like when I first read Obsidian. This time around it was effortless to fall in love with him within those first few pages.
From the very first time I’d seen her standing on my porch—the first argument, the first time she called me a douche, and from the very first time I realized how strong and brave she truly was, I’d been attracted to her. I’d wanted her.

I loved that Oblivion was smile inducing. From getting to hear the little lies Daemon made up, just so he could hang around Katy. To seeing how much he enjoyed causing their fights or goading her on, I couldn't help myself, I kept laughing out loud. Daemon was hilarious without even trying. Especially since he was so inappropriate at times. Yeahhhhhh I know Daemon could be the biggest douche on the planet, but this time we got to hear his thoughts and see how he felt during each of those moments. That made a world of a difference for understanding why he did and said the things he did.
“Kitten,” I repeated. “You don’t get to do that and then stop. That’s not how it works. Not when you’re mine.” I backed up until I hit the wall. Sliding down, I pulled her onto my lap, her knees on either side of my hips. “And you’re mine.”

One of my favorite thing about this book is that there were so many moments and conversations that were not in the first three Lux books. We got to see what Daemon was up to, when he wasn't around Katy. We also got to be privy to a lot of conversations just between Daemon and Dee or Daemon and the other Luxen. I treasured every single one of them because they filled in so much of the story. Between the new scenes, and being able to hear Daemon’s brutally honest thoughts, it made this book feel fresh and new. But at the same time it still had so much of what made me fall in love with The Lux Series to begin with.
Air punched out of my lungs. I held her tight, and I knew right then I would burn down the whole universe for her if I had to. I would do anything to keep her safe. Kill. Heal. Die. Anything. Because she was my everything.

In case you can’t tell, Oblivion was everything! Daemon was sigh worthy, lust worthy and dream worthy. Watching Katy slowly sneak into his head and heart, oh, each moment was beautiful. So by the time I got to the end of these three books, I found myself loving Daemon and Katy even more. I didn’t even know that was possible. I still found myself fiercely hated Blake, I eventually liked Ash and Adam again, I wanted to steal Dee as my new bff and surprisingly I even forgot some of the backstabbing and perilous moments that happened in the Obsidian, Onyx and Opal *gasp*. There were so many scenes that had me smiling, laughing, crying and I absolutely loved every single thing about this book! I hope everyone out there that loved The Lux Series picks this book up too. It was beyond worth it!

Other Favorite Quotes:
And there it was. The spark in her eyes was a blazing fire now, and I was fighting a full-on grin. Damn, she wasn’t just cute anymore. She was much, much more, and my stomach sank.

********************
Huh. Perhaps I was a bit too much of a dick the first two times I talked to her. Good thing she didn’t know I briefly considered burning her house down.

********************
Kat wasn’t cute. She wasn’t even sexy. She was beautiful—absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. Not that I hadn’t noticed that before, but now? Now was something entirely different.

********************
This girl could slay me if I let her.

********************
By the time we hit Interstate 81, I wanted to kick Blake out of the damn car, tie him to the middle of the road, and run him over several times. At least fifty times. Maybe fifty-one.

NO ONE UNDERSTANDS MY LOVE FOR DAEMON BLACK!!
He is my all time favorite book HUSBAND!
I finished the Lux series last year and I just couldn't get over the series and how its my favorite series... EVER . I've been trying to find a series or just even a book to replace it but I can't! So, you can imagine my freak out session I had when I found out she released Oblivion and.... (give it a minute)... IT WAS IN DAMEON'S POV!!
Jennifer, you sly dog you. You knew how I would have reacted to this book.

So, like a normal human being would do.. I bought it the moment it got released & didn't leave my room until I finished it... duh.
I loved every second of it and my love for Dameon just grew tremendously!

I will. Yep, always.
But, I'm just sad all over again because there will be no more Dameon :(
I have to mourn again.

If you haven't read the Lux series.. you. need. to. or. you're. living. a lie.

Did you read the Lux series and fall madly, deeply, and irrevocably in love with Daemon Black?

“Want to throw another adverb in there?”

Well, yes. I’ll tell you something else: if your answer to my question is YES, then you absolutely and immediately need to read Oblivion.

If I remember correctly, it was during Christmas last year that I read – or more like devoured – the Lux series. This was during my pre-bibliotheque reader’s life, so I never put together a review for it. To be honest, I don’t think I could do it now, not even if I re-read the series.

Now that I’ve kind of re-read the whole story, from Daemon’s pov no less, I realise… Holy baby aliens, how I've missed this series. And Daemon Black.

Having said that, I’d like to warn you, this will not be a well structured review and… well let’s not even call it a review. Let’s just say this is where I’ll channel all the fangirling acquired while reading Oblivion before I explode and tell a random friend who could not care less about the last perfect book-boyfriend I’m obsessing with. Because honestly? You guys will understand.

So, there we go.

First of all, if you don’t have your Oblivion copy yet, and you are wondering whether to get the ebook or the paperback: GO FOR THE EBOOK.

If you get the ebook – or digital version or whatever you want to call it – instead of the paperback, you’ll get Daemon’s pov for Obsidian, Onyx and Opal (books #1, 2 & 3 of the series). YES! That means 3 times more of DAEMON thoughts and awesomeness.

“… but my 6-foot something awesome frame and movie-star good looks – well, those just fit my stellar personality.”

Now, the greatness of reading a story you loved from a different pov. Well, what can I say about that that you don’t already know? It offers the reader all the details necessary to complete the story. In this particular case, and if you’ve read the Lux series – if not, I don’t know what are you waiting for, really – you know Daemon is a complete ass to Kat. We learn later the reasons for his buttface behavour, but reading Oblivion will let you see his other face from the beginning. This fight with himself over his feelings for Kat. And how, the more he denies them, the more he’s falling for her.

“Huh. Perhaps I was a bit too much of a dick the first two times I talked to her. Good thing she didn’t know I briefly considered burning her house down.”

If I’d have to describe Daemon’s character to a non-Lux-reader I think the conversation would go totally wrong. You see? Daemon is an ass most of the times, probably the perfect example of overconfident and bad boy trope that deny their feelings. Of course, that’s something often seen in young adult literature, and maybe one of the recycled ways a love story will go. However, when it comes to JLA, everything you've seen falls off the table. She builds her stories in a way that will make you get over all this maybe lack of originality you've seen in the past, and turn it into something ADDICTIVE. I guarantee you, you’ll just love every part of it. You won't be able to get enough of it.

“And I also knew I needed to get off her before I engaged in total dumbassery.”

The thing is, Daemon is not only the perfect example of the bad boy trope, he also exemplifies the sweetest…

“I don’t know how to make you better. I wish I did, but please stay with me. I need you, and I can’t lose you. Not now. Not ever.”

… and perfect-est male character.

“I would burn down the whole universe for her if I had to. I would do anything to keep her safe. Kill. Heal. Die. Anything. Because she was my everything.”

So, yep, a part from that, I’ll ask you again the same question: Did you read the Lux series and fall madly, deeply, and irrevocably in love with Daemon Black? Yes? Then, you need to read Oblivion. Be ready for sassy, swoon worthy, sweet, sexy and a whole lot of awesome.

Daemon Black might be a lot of things, but for me he is one of THE book boyfriends, so I couldn’t be happier to read his side of the story – like, screaming inside happy.

Oh, before I go, by the time you finish reading Oblivion, you’ll want to read again Origin and Opposition. Make some space in your tbr list. You’ve been warned.

As expected of Daemon. You can never tire of reading his bubbly personality. I may read the 2nd and 3rd books in his POV. Not sure yet. It's like watching a director's cut of a movie after watching the original, back-to-back. Although I know it would be nothing short of entertainment with Daemon, I didn't like the story of Onyx and Opal as much as the beginning and end books of the series. Idk. Anyway, what I liked about Oblivion was all the hidden actions that Daemon took in his and Katy's story. It was like discovering chocolate hiding in Katy's POV. And I loved it.
