Jessica does it again!
I was expecting this to be about their adventures in Grath, so I was disappointed when I realized that it was not. However, it was way better than I was expecting! (*sigh* Why do I ever doubt Jessica Day George?? She always BEYOND delivers).
I really liked having Celie's internal struggles prevalent in this one. I think it balanced out the rest of the series. She's struggling because she finds all these things and learns all things, and they get taken away with no consultation and barely a "thank you." I found that both understandable and relatable. She doesn't want to change, with Lilah's impending marriage.
I love Lulath. I ship him with Lilah.
BUT DID LILAH HAVE TO BE SUCH A JERK IN THIS ONE???
I've had mixed feelings about Lilah lately. I loved her big-sisterliness in book one, but in books two and three, I wasn't quite sure. She was a brat in this one. LILAH, CELIE DOES NOT GET WHATEVER SHE WANTS. So annoying.
Pogue is hands-down my favorite character. It's been decided. He's so nice to Celie! *melts* I feel empathy toward him about Lilah and Lulath, but I don't ship him with Lilah. Lulath's perfect for her. I DO, however, ship him with Celie. And before you start thinking weird things, I know she's only twelve. But I'm thinking in several years, they could fall in love. For now, yeah, that would be gross. I mean, her liking him would be cute, but him liking her would be... a bit weird.
(CELIE YOU HAVE TO GROW UP SOON BECAUSE I WANT TO SEE THIS)
To be honest, I did get a little annoyed at Rolf with the griffins, but I do understand. Cora and Pogue got griffins on accident, but he can't even get one when he tries! AHHHH but I was so happy at the end where Lady Griffin did lay an egg for him!
Wizard Arkwright is the WORRRRRRSTTTTT. I'm so glad they took care of him. NO THANKS TO WIZARD BOWEN AND WIZARD WHAT'S-HIS-FACE
They are sooooo annoying. I love the Castle, but did you seriously have to go through all that?? And Celie can discover the Castle's secrets herself! She doesn't need their help!
*takes a deep breath*
A very good book, just as good as the others, but some annoying parts. I'm not annoyed with the authors, though, just the characters. I think that's when you know a book was well-written.
