This was an amazing read. I read the first 15 before I started Goodreads and now I finally get to continue the series. I really love the story. However, in this volume, the progression of Ren and Kyoko's relationship was my favourite part. They are getting more and more comfortable around each other. It is nice to see Kyoko open up more. I love the characters. The ending was fantastic. Can't wait to read Volume 17 and I hope it keeps getting better. Overall, an incredible read.
Ren shows up after Kyoko was attacked by Reino and subsequently saved by Sho. He has no idea what happened, although realizes that something is up. Kyoko is far too embarrassed to tell him. Of course, he finds out. And he flips. He's upset that Kyoko was threatened by seems just as upset that it was Sho who showed up to save her. Nothing like fear and jealousy combined.
Sho is as arrogant as they come, but even he is astute enough to realize that Ren's anger is not simply the emotion of a close colleague, but of someone who is personally interested in Kyoko. Sho isn't going to let anyone other than him have Kyoko. I don't think that Sho is all that attracted to Kyoko, at least not consciously. He wants her because he realizes what he's missing and because she's like his property. That and having a rival interested in her makes her more appealing.
I'm interested to see how the rivalry between Ren and Sho develops. I'm definitely a fan of Kyoko and Ren - who wouldn't be? But there's something to the chemistry between Sho and Kyoko. If this were an adult romance, they would alternate between screaming at each other and tearing their clothes off and going at it. Theirs is a raw, physical attraction that I don't think they realize. In contrast, Kyoko and Ren are a sweet couple who would hold hands while walking down the street and cuddle while watching movies. As much as I prefer sweet, simply romance, my stomach does do butterflies at the hotness of Kyoko and Sho.
OMG THAT WAS SUCH A CUTE VOLUME! WHAT A ENDING WITH REN “SLEEPING” ON KYOKO’S LAP!! Director Ogata censored it as if he was seeing something much more obscene… BWAHA. I’m so glad Ren is feeling better. I know he’s scared because Sho has an overwhelming presence in Kyoko’s heart, but I hope Ren gains the confidence to surpass that presence rather than replace it. I know Ren can do it. After all, while hate is a strong emotion, nothing connects two people more than mutual love, care and affection for one another. There’s no way revenge, possessiveness and hatred can ever surpass that.

I’d say that Sho handled those beagles pretty well I was actually impressed. Poor Ren was fighting demons in this volume but his and Kyoko’s interactions at the end were cute!
Definitely moving forward with the relationship between Ren and Kyouko, and the relationship between Shou and Kyouko. Ren is finally starting to not only admit to how he feels, but actually act on them too - first with being so jealous of Shou and Kyouko having a private conversation that he "casually bumped into them" and then taking Kyouko away for breakfast (...during which he ate breakfast for the second time so as not to give away his ploy), thus ending up rather nauseous from eating too much... but leading to the super sweet scene of Ren having a rest whilst laying his head in Kyouko's lap with Kyouko stroking his hair. That was really, truly adorable <33 ;u;
It was nice to see a different side to Shou in this one too; he's finally starting to really show how it is that he got to be the "number one guy in Japan in the music industry" (even if he IS still behind Ren :P). I thought his revenge against the copy-cat "Beagles" was pretty genius and I loved how he went about removing their opportunity to copy his new music... while also proving why he's better than them by rewriting some of their songs to be superior to the original versions. Nice to see the sarcasm and evilness put to a more productive use ;D

I fell in love with this manga immediately. It drew me in and kept me there. Sadly to say i have been reading it from the internet and hate to wait in between chapters. I've also been watching it's anime and I've seen the first episode of the TV show extravagant challenge based on this manga. But nothing beats the manga because it has all the extra details that are not shown elsewhere.
I'm writing this review for all of the volumes of Skip Beat because i tend to read them all together. I enjoy Kyoko's personality, the way she is inexperienced in various things(such as friends, boyfriends, etc.), serious with others(her acting,etc.)..Her relationship with Ren and how she won't admit to her feelings. I also like the turn of events with Sho, how he is now interested in her.
I like reading this manga over & over again because it basically shows a young girl who had her heart broken and was stepped on, who gathered up all her anger, her little left hope and decided to get revenge. Along the way she makes friends, experiences new feelings, develops a deep love for her acting which changes things around for her.
No matter how many time you get knocked down, you should get back up and fight!!
Ren's head in Kyoko's lap! OMG! My heart was going to burst! GJ not jumping her right then and there Ren! She was making it really hard!
Ren at twice for her!!!!!!!!!! That's like a man going to war! He hates eating!
I loved the tiny little King of the night scene. PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN FOR REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love how innocent Kyoko is. She still believes in Fairies! :)
Reappearance of Corn! At least temporarily!
Edit: February 2021
Why must Sho always cause trouble for Kyoko! 🤬 Getting Ren to be mad at her when it wasn't her fault!
When I really think about Kyoko and Ren are perfect for each other. They have very similar hobbies but are just different enough to help each with their deficits.
Ren being willing to eat more food just to keep Sho and Kyoko apart is amazing. True love/jealousy there.
Kyoko's reaction when Ren just has indigestion. lol. Of course she doesn't know that but still.
Ren's head in on Kyoko's lap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love Sho revenge against Vie Ghoul. The pig butt image was hilarious.

My least favorite volume in the series so far. I was fairly disappointed with this one. After everything that happened in the volume before, nothing happened in this one. Also they kind of down-played the whole sexual harassment situation, and I know this is shojo manga so it’s lighthearted and romantic and stuff, but it still kind of annoyed me. I like that both Ren and Sho have become aware of their feeling towards Kyoko, but I don’t like how the romance in this manga has escalated so dramatically. I do enjoy the romance in this manga, I just wish it would have been like before where it didn’t play the most significant part in the story. Hopefully when this arc ends the romance will slow down a bit, and there would be more about Kyoko guiding her way through showbiz.
2021: Go get her Ren! It'll only take like 30 more volumes to get closer to that goal. You know, easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
2009: as the dust settles from sho and reino's clash, where does ren fit in? feeling like he might be after a lost cause, ren makes a surprising decision to fight against the odds, and try to capture kyoko's heart. (amazing turn of events if you remember the conversation ren had with lory before dark moon, he's never fought for anyone.) but is there even enough room in kyoko's heart with sho dominating her every thought, and reino trying to weezle his way in? you'll laugh, swoon, and might even clap your hands reading this one, it's truly that great!
Kyoko is saved by Sho from a person who has been stalking her. He realizes that he has feelings for her but Mr.Tsuruga (Ren) loves her in the same way. Now they are both trying to win her heart.
This book reminded me of eclipse because both Edward and Jacob loved Bella dearly, the only difference is that Bella knew that they did where as Kyoko does not.
I give this book 3 stars because it was entertaining but it's one of those things that you need to see or read from the beginning, to actually understand what is going on in the story, because I was absolutely lost.
Approvato!

Today's post is on Skip Beat!, volume 16 by Yoshiki Nakamura. It is 210 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Kyoko and Ren on it locked in an embrace. As it is the sixteenth in the long running series you need to have read the first fifteen to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. The story is told from the third person close of Kyoko and at time Ren. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- Saving Kyoko from Reino's attack has finally knocked some sense into ho's head, and he realizes how much he cares for her. But before he can declare his devotion, Ren shows up to ruin the moment. Both men realize that Kyoko has no idea of true feelings for her and begin a secret battle for her affections!
Review- After the previous volume intensity, this is a much calmer volume with all the drama being from Ren and Sho. We do see Reino but he does not intact with Kyoko and that made me happy because Reino was very creepy to her and I was really uncomfortable with their interactions. Ren and Sho both realize that they has feelings for Kyoko but I am not sure about how genuine Sho's feelings are or that they are romantic feelings. Ren on the other hand, his feelings are romantic and he is struggling with his feelings for Kyoko. That is really the plot in this volume. Not much plot movement but lots of character development so I enjoyed seeing Ren deal with his feelings after running from them for so long. Kyoko and Ren have some growth in their relationship and I am looking forward to seeing what is going to happen next.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
This is my favorite volume so far! Its kinda hard to review all the volumes since I read them back to back.
I was hoping that Sho would realize his mistake and would want to make amends with Kyoko and I am so glad that something finally happen that made him realize that he does care for her than more just a maid. I am just wondering what Reino has up his sleeve.
Its obvious that Ren does care for her and Sho knows that too. Who will win Kyoko's heart? More than likely neither since she has no plans to opening her heart anyone again but Ren is slowly starting to become important to her.
I just want to say that I loved how this volume ended and I would love for Ren and Kyoko just to have one kiss where Ren finally lets his feelings known.
TWO SHIPS SAILING! Sho nearly confessing to Kyouko but Ren steps in to stop it! In this volume, Sho and Kyouko does really seems so close with how they bicker, like if in real life scenario it is very hard to come between that. Which is a real struggle for Ren, if he can even come between that (which he did, thank God). Ren really needs to decide on how he should act on his feelings regarding Kyouko, stop giving mixed signals bro. Do you want to be someone special to Kyouko or just become her respected senpai? I think the last panel answers it, he can’t resist!

I haven't felt this conflicted about a character in so long. Sho has been such a dick, treating Kyoko like a nothing maid for him, rather than his best friend. Yet... something about his recent behavior has made my heart... skip a beat?? (Pun intended btw)
I just don't know what to think about that, like at all. I still prefer Ren, like by a million, but I can't deny that my feelings towards Sho have become complicated.
I forgot how much I enjoyed the romantic tension in this manga. It was one of my first shoujo mangas that I invested in actually buying every volume as it came out (at Waldenbooks...does anyone remember them anymore??) Love that it's been so long since I've read it that I pretty much forgot everything that happened. It's like reading it again for the first time!

I swear to god, the drama in this series just gets more and more annoying/frustrating as the volumes go by. Sho is an ass who did one single good thing; he’s still an ass. Ren is also an ass. Why don’t they just get with each other? Or bang it out at least once? Who cares about anything that happened in this volume; i hate these two so much.
I hated Shou in the beginning, but he's growing on me. Most characters were pretty much 2 dimensional in the beginning, but I really love how the author is fleshing them out. And can we get a rofl lmao for the stalker sleeping in a coffin ON TOP OF a bed :') what a mad lad.

Much better than the last issue, but despite ending on a good note, I kinda want to get back to the TV show? And Kanae? We haven't seen her in forever! So much for that best friend arc from a few volumes ago.
I know I'm burning through this and I don't care because it's a commitment to read this series *If I only was this dedicated to finish writing my book :'( *
There is a scene on this volume that once I reread the volume was even better. On my rush to find out what was going to happened, I had overlooked Ren's internal monologue and let me tell you something... I find him 1000% more interesting now. I cannot help but wanting to know more about his background.
And surprisingly this volume gave "Shitaro" the chance to show the readers that he is not just a spiled brat that got lucky and now he's a musician... he actually has talent and I found that so attractive haha :(. I might even call him Shotaro...
These latest volumes are phenomenal. Sho, convinced that Kioko still loves him. Ren feeling insecure and awkward. Kioko, who lives in her own world and does not notice anything. Beautiful. Can't wait to see how it develops. Gorgeous cover.
