A detective hunting for answers. A dangerous secret hiding in the desert.
When an old friend from Little Tokyo asks for help locating his missing nephew, detective Charlie Madison takes the case. What begins as a search for a rebellious youth leads Madison out into the desert Wastes where he encounters a gang of marauders looking for an easy mark and secretive Federal agents tasked with detaining political activists. In the process, he uncovers an isolated facility and an off-the-books operation with the potential to destabilize the United World government.
Determined to find the truth before Blackshirts eliminate every shred of evidence, Madison must fight to stay alive, facing trigger-happy robots and a genetic monstrosity intent on putting him out of commission. Nothing is as it seems, and time's running out.
Charlie Madison has encountered more than his share of unusual suspects in the past. This time he's up against something the likes of which he's never seen—on or off the battlefield. Can he solve a case with so many missing pieces?
Novella - Crime Noir / Science Fiction Sequel to Girl of Great Price, Immaterial Evidence, and Yakuza Territory
Milo James Fowler is the cross-genre author of more than thirty books: space adventures, post-apocalyptic survival stories, mysteries, and westerns. A native San Diegan, he now makes his home in West Michigan with his wife and all four seasons. Some readers seem to enjoy the unique brand of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and humor found in his ever-growing body of work. Soli Deo gloria.
When it comes to random Kindle freebies from relatively to completely unknown authors, quality is often a crapshoot, often leaning toward crap. This author, however, is one of my best discoveries, he writes reliably entertaining speculative fiction. That’s how I ended up reading his Charlie Madison series, though I don’t always go for P.I. style dystopian noir, heavy on noir. Madison investigations take place in a world rearranged by war, environmental disasters and political discombobulation. Los Angeles is now just a designated sector. Mafias divide territories, police isn’t too effective and everyone’s got alliances to balance and agendas to serve. And also there are now individuals with super or ins this case supra abilities. Charlie remains something of a free spirit, maintaining his independence, although often associating with the Yakuza. In this, his fourth adventure, he sets off to find a nephew of one of the Japanese power players, who may have some special abilities. Is someone abducting the supras? And why? Read and find out. This was a slight longer one, but still a novella, making for a quick entertaining read. Many thanks to the author for providing a free copy for review purposes. Technically it was a win. Always nice to be a winner.
Not Kindle Unlimited, one of my freebies they give out and hope you find time to review it.
