A few months after my undergraduate studies I got my first professional job, it was also the year that I met my first love. Johan. We worked for different companies but shared office space. I had perfected my blank face which meant I could ogle him (Tall, blond and Dutch; you do the math) while pretending he did not exist. Those first four months were the most intense foreplay that I've ever participated in. While he hovered, I skittered. It all came to a head one evening, after a rather rowdy dinner party...........
So, let me tell you that when I say this book is one intense foreplay... you should pretty much take my word for it. By the end of Covet, I wasn't sure if I needed a cold shower or a popsicle (wink wink).
For the love of all that is holy, Ian was one fusion reactor short of being radioactive. The guy had my heart. Or something. Well damn. Damn. British, hot and kind hearted. I wanted to hug him
Then, lick him.
And Tessa. Sweet, sweet Tessa. If ever there was a book heroine that broke my heart, it was her. This girl was so freaking unlucky yet so absolutely strong even in the midst of extreme physical and emotional turmoil. I wanted to hush her and hug her. From the book's beginning all through to the end. That girl needed a break.
Tessa lost everything at age 16 and to avoid being placed in foster care, she agrees to a fake marriage with Peter who at 17, also wanted an escape from an abusive home. Together, they forge a strong friendship within their pseudo-marriage. Five years later, Tessa has a certificate from the community college and 4 years of work experience from working at the Gregson group of hotels and Peter, a degree in Communications. Peter gets a job in San Fran and luckily, Tessa also got a transfer to the Gregson head office at SF.
Enter Ian Gregson, the boss. Who fell in love with her at first sight. But, hello, did you forget that Tessa's married? Yeah.... shame that. With this knowledge, Ian was determined to stay as far away from Tessa as possible while knowing his love might possibly remain unrequited.
2 years, four months and change. That's how long he waited. Let me be clear, outside of their imaginations, these two never acted on their feelings. No hallway groping or stolen kisses. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Aaaaannnd, no sex scenes. They barely even shared the same space; regardless, the sexual tension was so thick, I thought my e-reader would combust! It. Was. Hot! Nuf said, read the damn book
And Ms. Nissenson, my hat's off.
