Patrick's Charm, Book 2 in the Bride Train series by E.E. Burke is a wonderful continuation of this innovative theme. The ladies who arrived on the bride train together come from all walks of life and even though they end up in the same time and place, they each have their own special story to tell. This story, as well as the prequel and the first book are very enjoyable reads and I do recommend them as Ms. Burke has so carefully spun these tales and each one is a treasure.
O'SHEA'S GOOD LUCK CHARM I enjoyed this next book in The Bride Train series, where a group of young marriageable aged women signed up as mail-order brides traveling to the southeastern Kansas area. The twelve intended brides refuse to allow their matches to be made by a drawing and insist upon courtships. Charm La Belle is an entertainer but signed paperwork to be a bride. She is hiding secrets and instead of marrying, she plans on finding employment. Patrick O’Shea is looking for a female entertainer to sing and dance at his saloon and the bold and sassy Charm walks right into his saloon, climbs on the bar, and puts on a show. Reluctantly Patrick agrees to give her employment, in spite of her being one of the brides. When trouble comes calling for Patrick on his established claim, he is told, marry her. What seems to an impossible situation can be turned into an agreement. The angst between Patrick and Charm adds humor, especially as their emotions get involved. Just when things seem to be working out for them, evil comes with threats to destroy happiness. How far will two people go when they realize that they want to pursue the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow?
SO GOOD! Charm has her reasons to why she joined the Bride Train and Patrick just wants his land. Now how can Charm leave her past behind her without anyone finding out, and how can Patrick save his land?
The second book in this series is as exciting an outstanding read as the first one. Ms. Burke’s gives you everything you come to expect in a well written western romance as she puts a twist on her story bring in true history as she spins a tale of bring brides to a western town in hopes of calm down the men from their wild ways. These are women who will be heard and not told who they will marry. They demand courtship and the right to pick the man they will marry. They take the bull by the horn and start as they intend to go on.
Charm La Belle is on the run hiding a secret she signs up to be a mail order bride. She might have signed up to be a mail order bride but she has no intentions of being one she plans on finding a job. When she hears that Patrick is looking for a female singer she walks right in and applies for the job. This is one sassy bold lady as she climbs on the bar dancing and singing putting on a show. Patrick isn’t too happy at first she reminds him of a women long ago but he gives in and hires her. When trouble comes he is told to marry her, he has been married once before and really doesn’t want to get married again. Charm has no intention of marrying ever she has seen what marriage can do. No man will control her again. Can these two come to an agreement that will suit them both? As they stir up a mess that is entertaining and will keep you chuckling since Patrick has in his mind he will marry her and she said no way. Trouble in on it way, will they give in and let this destroy their future or will they fight this as one to find they were meant for each other?
This book sure has the right name it fits it to a T. I love Patrick he is a down to earth guy who might be a little pushy when he knows what he wants. I had to laugh at him as his jealousy comes out. I think he has been too long in the west and has forgotten how to win a ladies heart. It doesn’t take long for Charm to put her foot down showing her temper and just how things will be. Patrick is having none of it as her secret comes out he is more determine to make her is bride. Will her past come knocking and if it does what will Patrick do. I loved the strong characters that will let nothing stand in their way. When life gets tough Charm gets stronger not letting other judge her doing what she wants, to entertain at any cost.
This is one author that I know will always entertain me and keep me smiling as she spins a story that grabs your attention giving you a feeling of pleasure as you are drawn in. This was a very well thought out and well written giving you the facts why keeping you smiling. Her characters are people you can relate to as she brings that small town feeling to life. She has a way of spinning a tale to make you believe it truly happened as she pulls you in with a page turner. Her books always move me and I never want the story to end. I hope you will pick up one of her wonderful stories and be taken back to a time when life was hard but much simpler.

Patrick's Charm is a story that will warm and hurt your heart at the same time. Patrick, an Irishman who thought going to America would be better than remaining in Ireland, could never have imagined how much his life was about to change, when he was conscripted into the Union during the Civil War.
Losing his brother in battle, and with the War over, he forges ahead to Kansas hoping to find his dream business. This was a tumultuous time in history with bitter rivalries over the exploding railroads and Indian attacks decimating settlers.
Patrick establishes a saloon and finds himself running a hearty establishment in Cherokee County, Kansas. At the same time, the Railroad Commission is incurring the costs for women to travel there as hopeful brides for the large male population.
When a brightly dressed young woman enters his saloon during daylight hours, he wants to shoo her out to protect her reputation as much as he wants to keep her there because of his attraction to her. When she points out his advertisement for female entertainers, he is shocked that she wants to audition. Charm LaBelle has been running from her past life and desperately needs to remain hidden. As a talented performer, she enchants Patrick's customers and with some trepidation, she is hired on the spot.
What transpires next is a substantive chronicle of events touching on small minded perceptions and expectations of what women should be ~ to the debilitating pain Patrick struggles to keep at bay while trying to become a better man. Charm and Patrick are so appealing that at the end of the book, I wanted to begin reading it again. Congratulations Ms. Burke!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
While Patrick's Charm has a happy ending, learning about the things in Charm's and Patrick's past made the need for an HEA even more important. I didn't really like Charm at the beginning of the book. She came across as spoiled and entitled but Charm grew on me. Once I learned what she'd endured after her father's death, my heart ached for her and I started hoping even harder that Patrick could convince Charm he was the right man for her. Let's talk about Patrick. *dreamy sigh* If ever any character deserved the title "book boyfriend" it would be Patrick O'Shea. Patrick is a proud Irish man who was coerced into joining the Union Army during the Civil War. Patrick's life after the war could be the story of any current veteran who serves or has recently served in the military. Patrick suffers from PTSD and debilitating pain as a result of an injury sustained during the war. However, Patrick just keeps keeping on and you'd have to get close to him to notice the affects of his injuries. In addition to being strong in character and size, Patrick is so sweet and loving. I don't know how Charm resisted him for as long as she did.
Patrick's Charm had an unexpected depth to it and I really didn't want it to end. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in The Bride Train series.
PATRICK'S CHARM by E. E. Burke is #2 in her highly anticipated "The Bride Train", series, can be read as a stand alone. I would highly recommend reading "A Bride's Journey" (Prequel) and "Valentine's Rose". A quick, fast paced Western Historical Victorian Romance. Based on true events of the historical "Bride Train". This is the story of Saloon owner, Irish immigrant, and disabled Veteran, Patrick O'Shea and, Charm LaBelle, a on-the-run, down-on-her luck, famous actress turned saloon singer, who'd rather be a saloon singer than be forced into marriage. Enter, Patrick O'Shea...Both have faced disappointment, tragedy, and betrayal. Another hit by Ms. Burke, who weaves a tale of danger, suspense, passion and romance, with witty banter and flawed characters. Well written with engaging, realistic and charming characters. The storyline is unique and a page turning tale. A sweet Western Romance. "The Bride Train" series is a keeper and a definite must read. I look forward to the next installment. Fans of Historical Romance, Western Romance, Victorian Western tales and sweet romances, will enjoy "Patrick's Charm". I highly recommend this story! Received for an honest review from the author, but al opinions are my own.
Miss Burke has again kept us captivated as she tells the story of Patrick and Charm. Patrick suffers daily with pain in his hip from the war while running his struggling business. Charm is a famous actress running from her manager, she loves performing and only wants to do so again while hiding who she is. Charm walks into Patrick's saloon and ask to perform. Things look great for a time until their past catches up to them, Patrick has to marry to keep his saloon and land while Charm has to deal with her manager. Patrick and Charm join forces and well, I won't give it away. Just know this is another great read from the series The Bride Train. Loved this story of romance and danger. Could not put the book down till I completed the last page!,
I am a huge fan of the Mail Order Bride trope and E.E. Burke's new series is one of my favorites. I'm a huge fan of this time period after the Civil War and this author pays strict attention to detail and gives the reader a true glimpse into this period in our nation's history. I especially enjoy her characters and Patrick and Charm are an interesting pair. Patrick is an Irish war veteran fighting to better himself and Charm is gregarious and loves to entertain, but they both have secrets that neither one is aware of. I can always count on a great storyline and interesting characters when reading a book by E.E. Burke and this series is exactly what I look for when I'm in the mood for period romance.
In this second book of the series we follow the unlikely duo of two very strong minded people, Charm and Patrick.
I honestly didn’t see this coming, but was pleasantly surprised to see that Ms. Burke had given Mr. O’Shea a bride of his own. Charm is such a great and fun character that you can’t help but love and admire her spunk.
This tale was well written and researched, as the first one was. It was a hoot to watch these two spar and fall in love!
Bravo!!! Bravo!!! This is another fantastic book. EE Burke's newest book Patrick's Charm was a true delight to read. I am loving The Bride Trains Series, she puts so much history and research into these books and then the characters she develops, are just superb. I can't wait until the next one, to continue this amazing series. "All-A-Board", for EE Burke's - Patrick's Charm, 5 stars all the way.

This is the story of Patrick O'Shea and Charm LaBelle. Patrick owns a bar and Charm applies for a job as an entertainer. Both of them have secrets and problems from their past. As their problems begin to surface, they have to learn to trust each other and work together or lose everything. E. E. Burke has written another great read!
I'm captivated by this series. I like historical fiction and had no idea about the bride trains. I enjoy how each book focuses on one of the brides and gives an insight into how life may have been for her. I have also finished the 3rd book in the series and am (patiently) waiting for the 4th one to be released.
I love books that surprise me and have a story like none I've read before. I enjoyed Patrick and Charm's story. Good series and look forward to the next book. Great author.
Totally enjoyed this book. Even though it is not the first book of the series, it does stand alone. What could be better then an Irish salon owner and a lady that has her own ideas of what kind of entertainment the salon needs. Both stubborn in their own way, and will they ever find love?
