This book contains a selection of 16 finest short stories which have been adapted from originals written by the world’s greatest storytellers such O. Henry, W.S. Maugham, R. Goldberg and others. There are also 5 mini-stories presented at the beginning of the book as a “warm-up exercise”. The stories have been thoroughly adapted (to preserve the gist of the original), translated into Italian language and presented as English – Italian parallel text. The book is intended mainly for Elementary to middle-Intermediate level learners.
This is one of the few language-learning books that are actually interesting and entertaining to read. The method really works: by the end of the book I frequently caught myself skipping the English text to quickly know what goes on with the plot, and also because gradually it became much easier to understand the Italian text. So, ANI-APPROVED-AND-RECOMMENDED! :)
The Thoughts and Notes on Italian Reader: Short Stories

Great experience of learning and iterating the Italian language with a bilingual book fulfilled with interesting and entertaining stories followed up with key vocabulary for each story.
With languages, you are at home anywhere. ~Edmund de Waal
I liked that the book was compiled of numerous short stories and that they were from real literature rather than seeming to be children’s/young adult stories. I wish that the text had been Italian first followed by English, because I didn’t want to read the English first and skim over the Italian already knowing what the paragraph included, but I managed to continuously skip down to the Italian and then back up to the English. I imagine that some day I may return to the book to read it again and try to imprint more of the vocab into my memory, since there’s a lot I’m sure I won’t remember from just trying to get through the stories this first time.
A collection of short stories in Italian and English interleaved. There are a few original stories at the beginning of the book followed by modified stories by famous authors. The vocabulary and grammar are a little more challenging than the previous Italian book of short stories I have read. But the stories were mostly entertaining. I gave this book 3.5 stars.
Very useful book for those who want to improve theirs Italian language. The stories are nicely adapted, so it was relatively easy to follow. I liked that at the end of each story there is a vocabulary of key words and expressions used in the story. All in all it's a great learning material.
I got bored studying grammar so I started with the book. I am absolutely in love with the stories, especially the last one. They had been a great help for my vocabulary and satisfied my longing good short sories.
