The Seattle Knights have the hottest players in the game. On and off the field.
First Love. Second Chances.
Sean McBride is the bad boy/manwhore of the Seattle Knights football team. And he is happy to embrace the title. He's young. Rich. Handsome. And he's one of the best wide receivers in the game. Why shouldn't he take advantage of all the perks? Women throw themselves at him. Wouldn't it be rude not to catch them?
Riley Preston loves the game of football. The Knights are the most important thing in her life. Besides Sean. Riley has loved Sean since she was seventeen but he has always seen her as a little sister.
Outside forces are trying to derail them and the team. It is time for both of them to grow up. Together, nothing can stop them.
I love books, I always have and always will. Writing is an extension of that and though it has taken me a while to get here, I now can officially call myself a published author. I grew up on a ranch in Eastern Washington, so I wanted to set my books on the Columbia River in Washington state. Harper Falls is completely fictitious, but I think anyone from the area will know right where it would be if it did exist. My hobbies are gardening, reading, baking(fattening desserts are my favorite), exercise(I don't love it, but it is necessary due to the desserts), and animals. I had a dog but when he died I couldn't bring myself to replace him. That is why I wrote Edgar, the dog into "If I Loved You", I consider him my surrogate puppy until I can get a real one. I love to get feedback on my books so I hope everyone will feel free to leave a question or visit my website(it is a work in progress, but I'm getting there). My Facebook page is up and running, please stop by for a look and a like. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mary-J.... I'm also on twitter https://twitter.com/maryjwilliams05
In this story we have Riley who is in love with our hero. The team realizes it and encourage him to let her down. He breaks her heart in a really douchey way. He basically tells her that she is t the right kind of woman for him because she would basically need to change everything about her self (including her virgin status) for him to be interested. So this next part just makes me nauseous. I can’t figure out how anyone would rate this 5 starts (ARC reviews and family friends maybe?). So the heroine decides to move East to finish school. He keeps being a manwhore for the next 5 years and she changes everything about herself. Like everything. She changed how she dresses, changes her makeup, clothes, learns to walk in stilettos (when that previously just wasn’t her style at all) she changes how she talks to people and interacts. She even sleeps with a few guys to get the sexual experience (ew). All of this to finally get him to like her, to feel good about herself. This whole plot line is just freaking awful!!! This author is going into my do not read category... I read the rest of the book for the basic purpose of being able to leave an honest review. It doesn’t get any better. It’s really nauseating. He brings up all of the women that he has screwed (repeatedly) he brags about it to the heroine, making it a joke “ah the stories I could tell you”. This was in reference to her awkwardly commenting on his history of threesomes and foursomes. He says over and over again that he doses regret any of his past because he “had fun”. He doesn’t care that he hurt the heroine, they both pretend it didn’t happen (to a weird creepy extent, couldn’t we pretend to imitate real life for just a minute). He even references that their engagement was coming for 8 years... ok, but he treated her like trash, made her change everything about herself, made her feel like she had to have sex with other people (again so freaking gross) and he slept with hundreds of other women the entire time (we know this because he references it over and over again). How does he have the balls to reference it like it was all a positive thing? This author couldn’t hit the mark with a baseball bat. Worst thing I have read in a long time. I couldn’t even read most of the book without a scowl on my face.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This novel begins giving us a "preview" of what's to come. Rookie NFL star, Sean McBride, is a "manwhore". He knows it and is even kind of proud of it. He is a star QB, has lots of money, endorsements, and more women than he can keep track of. He is so selfish that he doesn't even see Riley has a crush on him.... Riley, the eventual owner of The Knights, has been in love with Sean for 8yrs. Sean thinks she has a crush on him, but she knows it's love. She knows he sleeps with multiple partners, but is willing to overlook it--in exchange for his love. So when Riley kisses Sean, he ends up breaking her heart. He sees her as a "sister" and a "girl", not a woman. Riley leaves town with a broken heart, but with a plan. Five years later, Riley comes back into town an educated, experienced woman. She has graduated college and started her own business from the ground up. Now she's ready to come back and slowly integrate herself back into one of the loves of her life--The Knights. Five years apart from Riley have given Sean time to mature. Sean is no longer looking for meaningless sex and begins thinking of Riley more and more. Sean believes Riley is avoiding him and he'd be right. When they finally do meet up again, Riley realizes she's still in love with Sean, but not certain of his intentions. They begin as friends and it slowly turns into more.....until their relationship is threatened. Riley's relationship with her parents is strained--at best. They do not like her, are jealous of her, and try to destroy her. Through friends and Sean, Riley is able to overcome what her parents throw at her. Will Sean stick around in spite of her crazy parents? This is an AWESOME second chance romance with a mystery infused into the story. It's nice to see a strong successful woman! Loved it!!! It's a HEA with no cliffhangers, which was a major plus for me!!! I highly recommend this novel. It is the second in a series, but can be read as a stand alone. I typically don't read a series out of order, but with this one it didn't matter.
Bad boy NFL football player Sean finally meets his match, but it took eight years. I loved Riley and her strength and kindness. Her parents -- total nightmares! Owning the Seattle Knights football team made her rich -- the memory of her grandfather's love and support made her strong.
Another short, easy to read sports romance that fits the bill on a hot, humid summer day spent inside. On to the next one and final installment of the "One Pass Away" series -- GAIGE!
After All These Years is a second chance sports romance on KU. It’s a hard one to rate; I think the majority of readers will mark as a 3 or 4. In my opinion, it doesn’t have enough conflict/drama to make me love it, but it was enjoyable enough to not skim.
The beginning of the book has big time jumps; it starts with a 17-yr-old Riley manipulating her dad to recruit Sean whom she has a crush on. Then is skips 3 years to a 20-yr-old Riley who is in LOVE with man-whore Sean. His teammates encourage him to set her straight, so she can get over her crush. He takes the “kill Riley’s hope” advice, and is pretty harsh (she isn’t listening & keeps telling him she loves him) Riley is crushed and leaves for the east coast to grow up. Then we move five years to a 25-yr-old Riley returning home to take a more active role with the team. Sean is smitten, and over his man-whoring days, so he pursues a relationship.
I didn’t hate Sean for his earlier shenanigans; he certainly could have been more delicate, but he wasn’t trying to hurt her; he was worried about her afterwards. It needed to happen, because he was nowhere near relationship ready, and Riley needed to find herself. I didn’t take it that Riley changed herself to be more “suitable” for Sean. I think she had sex because she felt like it, and wore heels because she liked how she felt in them. I was misinformed so I will clarify, the couple has ZERO relationship before the split. He thinks of her as a kid; he’s a 25-yr-old millionaire that is all about having fun.
After reunited there really isn’t any obstacles or drama between them. She doesn’t hold a grudge; she’s very mature about it all; they are both likeable enough. There’s no cheating or OW issues; the only drama comes from her shitty parents. Overall, a pretty sweet, sports (but not sporty) romance.
Great Story & Narration🎧 Captivating Sports Romance!
After All These Years One Pass Away, Book 2 By: Mary J. Williams Narrated by: Lacy Laurel
I enjoyed this great sports romance, Mary J. Williams is a gifted author, her storylines are original, they grabbed my attention right from the start and held it straight to the end. The characters are complex and well developed. Riley Preston has loved football her whole life, her Grandfather owned and ran the Seattle Knights football team. She was his sidekick for years and learned a lot about the game and running the team. Sadly she lost her grandfather when she was young but she never lost the love of the game. The team is being run by her father and other share members, she is not happy with the way he is running things but there is only so much she could do right now, she will have more of a say when more shares come her way in the future. Riley was crushing on one of the players, Sean McBride, a man whore and a player on and off the field. Riley propositions him but he turns her down, she is too young and naive for him. The rejection upsets and she rethinks her life and she decides to up and leave and go to Harvard. She comes back years later better than ever and with a plan, one that will make her Grandfather proud. She also catches Sean McBride’s eye and he is not letting her go this time. I loved how everything plays out in this book, it is well plotted and I especially love how cunning Riley was, how she deal with her dirtbag father and mother. A lot goes on in this book, there is never a dull moment with plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns and some hot romance. Mary J. Williams, thank you for another great novel.
I listened to the Audible edition, Lacy Laurel is a fantastic narrator and voice artist. She does a great job portraying the characters and bringing them to life, giving each their own voice and personality. You could hear how much heart she puts into her work as she projects the characters emotions into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen🎧

Okay, so this was…..eh. It started off real great, it was a lil cringe (but also entertaining) bc the MFC was pining after a guy who barely knew she existed.
But then my enjoyment sorta stagnated. So, the MFC went off to Boston for five yrs, after the rejection, and she supposedly grew up, became confident and business savvy; my issue was that though she appeared to have grown up a lil, there wasn’t enough growth to validate the constant mansion of it. She also sounded just as unsure of herself as she was before she left, so it diminished any perception of growth the author wanted to convey.
Also the MMC's attitude towards the MFC changed quite drastically when he saw her again; the shift was just way too sudden. She left when she was TWENTY, but she wasn’t old enough for him and was too 'innocent' for him *eye roll*. Like the guy was twenty-five and immature af. But as soon as she was back, he was all over her. idk. there wasn’t enough written about the MMC’s transition from indifference to attraction.
There were also a few demeaning comments about 'other' women's eating habits by both MC’s (shaming other women for buying salads at dinner, like just let women live without shading them for shit that doesn’t matter and is nobody else’s business). Also, the MFC's inner monologue spoke about how she ‘started from the bottom’, even though she had every advantage and security in life possible.
I just felt a very mixed bag of emotions towards this book.
Sean McBride plays running back for the NFL team purchased by her Riley’s late grandfather. She has harbored a crush on Sean since she was 12 years old, when her grandfather gifted her with shares to the Seattle Knights team with plans for her to get more shares when she turned 25, and then receive majority shares when’s 30. At 20, she makes the mistake of coming on to Sean, the proverbial manwhore to every other woman but her. She is so devastated by his harsh words, that she takes off for Boston for the next 8 years, returning as a much more confident, beautiful woman who is hell bent on moving on from Sean. Then the fun begins. The angsty storyline is full of conflict between Riley and her money grubby parents, conflicts between the players and smoking hot sexual chemistry between Sean, who at 30 is done with running after other women when he realizes he is in love with Riley. I certainly enjoyed the book that was rich with NFL lure, stories about the WAGS, family jealousy and two people who realize that finding love is all about the timing. Fortunately there are enough secondary characters for a couple of additional books.
Riley was named as predecessor to her grandfather's football team at a young age causing a large drift between her and her parents. While her father tries to tear apart the team and her mother tries to sleep with all the players, Riley even as a teen tries to keep the team strong. She has taken particular interest in the new receiver, Sean. Five years her senior and still riding the high of fame, Sean doesn't see Riley as anything but a little girl and harshly let's her know. Years later, now more emotionally mature, Sean can't fight the new attraction to Riley as she has returned home. Have Riley's feelings for Sean changed? Will she give him a chance or has she moved on? Quick paced fun and steamy sports romance. First by this author and I would read more. Enjoyed it.
Riley has fallen in love with Sean since she was 17. Nobody took her 20 years of age seriously. When the word got back to her that everyone knew that she had a crush on Riley except Riley himself she decided she needed to get far away and find who she is. 5 yrs later she gets more control over the knights and decides to come back grown up. Would she still be in love?
After All These Years is a great sports romance! Nicely written, moved along quickly and was an easy read. Sean & Riley are great characters and they have a great & steamy connection. I enjoyed this story!
Riley Preston learned the love of football from her grandfather. she learned how to run the team and how the game was played. She was 12 when he passed away. He always told her the team would be hers one day. She had to wait until the age of 30 for full ownership. Until then the team was managed by her father and shareholders. Riley always had a crush on one of the players, Sean Mcbride. He was a player in more ways than one. She kisses him, he rejects her. She leaves and goes away to college and doesn't come back until she turns 25. That's when he starts to notice her. This is a second chance romance, with mystery and lies. I really enjoyed listening to this story narrated by Lacy Laurel. 🎧audiobookobsessionreviewer🎧
Mary J. Williams has done it again with her next addition to the awesome One Pass Away series, After All These Years. This is a story about love, finding one's self, friendship, and how to fight for what you believe in. It has a unique and intriguing storyline, great characters you can't help but love, others not so much, as well as betrayal, mystery, suspense, heartbreak, and many surprise twists that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. A fantastic story that is a MUST read!
Sean defines the term manwhore, and has no shame about it. He's one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and calls the Seattle Knights his home. He's been living his dream for years, but is finally realizing that he wants more. He wants what he so casually threw away years ago, and now that she's back, he's determined to have her. Riley's grandfather taught her everything about football and the team he owned, the Seattle Knights. Even after loosing him, she never lost her love for the game. At 17 she fell in love with Sean, at 20 she decided to tell him and that had disastrous results ending in a broken heart for her. She left to go to school, but 5 years later she's back. Thinking she's over him, until the first time they see one another again.
Will they be able to get past the heartbreak he caused her? Is Sean really over his man whoring ways? Will those responsible for all of their current trouble be able to keep them apart? Will they be able to stop them before someone gets hurt? Will this new relationship be strong enough to handle his past and her parents? Will either of them getthe HEA that they deserve?
If you haven't read this series, I suggest that you start from the beginning. Not only will you get to read amazing stories, but you'll get to learn more about the players, each couple, and about everyone who calls Seattle Knights home. You won't be disappointed! I strongly recommend this book, series, and fantastic author!
I received a complementary copy of this book for an honest review. I enjoyed this book so much. I was a quick read. The pace flowed so well and the characters we developed very well.
Riley has been a football fan all her life thanks to her grandfather buying the Seattle Knights. While other girls were playing with dolls, she was watching and studying plays with her grandfather. She was devastated when he passed away when she was 12. But he set up his will so that eventually she was have controlling interest in the team she loved so much. But her father and mother don't want her around at all. When she was just 17 the team drafted Sean McBride. And Riley was infatuated from the moment she saw him on tv.
Problem was Sean saw her as a little sister and nothing more. He was more worried about which gorgeous girl he could get into his bed next. After pining away for him for 3 years Riley tells him how she feels. Sean knows that they aren't right together so he has to be cruel to get her to let go of these feelings. So she leaves and goes to college and starts her own business. Five years later, she returns and Sean finally sees her in a new light. He is finally tired of his playboy ways and wants something lasting. This pleases Riley because after all those years, her feelings haven't changed.
But there are people that want to hurt Riley anyway possible. But it will be up to Riley and Sean to prove their relationship is strong enough to withstand the pressure of outside forces.
Even though this is book 2 in the series it can be read as a standalone.
This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. I loved this second chance romance story and couldn't put it. It's probably safe to say we have all had that one crush when we were young that made us feel like the world was coming to an end when the feelings weren't returned. This story shows us that sometimes those dreams do come true. Riley is to young and Sean well Sean is your typical hot, popular, famous guy who can get any girl he wants and much to Rileys disappointment its not her. Deciding the only way to get over this man is to move away she does just that. Coming home isn't always easy and in Rileys case its definitely not. While the years away have helped Riley grow and mature they have also helped Sean grow and mature as well. Tired of his playboy life and seeing Riley differently now he sets his sites on her. Not everyone is glad that Riley has come home and someone has set out to hurt her anyway they can. Sean will stop at nothing to protect her and show her his true feelings. This was an amazing story of first love, second chances and the power of love. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future. She definitely has a new fan.
*I received this book in an exchange for an honest review*
“After all these years” by Mary J. Williams is the second book of the “One Pass Away” Series. I read this book without stoping, it is quite short about 200 pages, so I though it would´t be really interesting, especially the characters since they is not a lot of time. However, I was completely wrong, Mary has a way of making every character in her books, very interesting, likable, and this was´t an exception.
I loved Riley since the beginning, I fell in love with her instantly, I love how she is strong and independent even though her childhood and relationship with her parents was´t the best. She knew what she wanted in life and worked extremely hard to get everything she has.
Sean on the on hand, at first was really immature and didn´t know what he wanted in life, he just wanted to have fun, he is really interesting and you want to know everything that happens to him.
You wouldn´t think they worked together, however the book is soon good, they always find a way to each other and rely on the other, but they make sure to still be independent and keep working for what they want and their dreams.
Overall, I truly enjoyed book 2, and I really look forward to reading number 3.
Second chances. We don't always get them, but when Riley takes over the management of Seattle Knights, she has her old crush Sean as one of the players. This man is the one we all love, good looking, rich, and woman. Does he notice that Riley is there? Yes!!! But can she trust that he is in it for the long haul? There are a few twists and turns in this book that I loved. It has such wonderful characters and the romance is delicious! A little slow burn, a lot of building heat and a plan that could through a wrench not only in their love life, but the life of the team! This is my first listen of Mary J Williams and I love her style! Definitely will be watching for more of this team's future!
Lacy Laurel is amazing with sports narrations. She just gets it. The teammates, the competitive value, the chaos that is caused and she pulls it all in giving each character the perfect voice and personality. She nails each one, from Sean and Riley to the wives and players, especially the quarterback! An enjoyable book and wonderful narration.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, Riley has the most loathsome, reprehensible excuses for parents.
Her parents: “You don’t like her reappearance any more than I do, if you were any kind of a man, you would have given me a son.”
“You think a son would have made you happy?” Gerald tried picturing it. The kid would have turned out one of two ways. A sniveling mama’s boy, or a sociopath who would snap, killing them in their sleep. He had no paternal love for Riley, but a least he didn’t worry about her giving him a shotgun blast to the head. Then, because this was Corrine and he couldn’t resist one more jab, he said, “Are you certain she’s mine?”
“You asked me that twenty-five years ago.”
Her mother uses the team as her personal playground and her father uses every woman he employs for his entertainment.
The ultimate betrayal is their sabotage attempt to ambush Sean, injuring him simply to cause her pain.

Riley Preston is one strong, determined lady who owns a portion of the Seattle Knights. Her grandfather was the owner and left it to Riley upon his death to gradually give her ownership. She grew up among the players and most of them considered her a sisterly figure. She fell in love with Sean McBride, a player she thought would be amazing for the Knights and take them on to Championship. This book itself is amazing and constantly holds your interest to the very end. Sean and Riley are two very strong characters that will find a special place in your heart. I love Mary J. Williams, she is a wonderful writer and a big favourite of mine. She ranks up there with Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts. Her writing never leaves you feeling cheated, it leaves you wanting more of her stories. Thank you Mary for yet another remarkable book.

I absolutely loved the story of Riley and Sean. The fact that this story was centered around the Knights football team made it even better. Riley grew up around football and loved it. She got her love of the game from her grandpa along with all the love that she deserved. Riley's parents were never meant to be parents. They had no love to show Riley.
Sean was a football player with the Knights and Riley had a major crush on him. When he didn't show any of the same feelings, Riley left town for 5 years. When she came back to town, Riley had grown up and changed enough to turn heads. The head that turned for the best was Sean's.
Riley had to deal with her family but just long enough for her and Sean to live happily ever after.
What a follow-up to "After the Rain"! I love football and for all intents and purposes I became Riley while reading this story. Can you imagine knowing you will one day own a football team and yet have the ability to form the team of your dreams while still in school? Falling head over heels for a player as a young adult and maneuvering the persons currently in charge of fielding the team into acquiring said player thinking they were doing you a disservice? Love the head on this young lady and the story played out beautifully. A stand-alone novel with carryover characters from the first book.
Sean & Riley - they are adorable! The rough patches their relationship has to go through are thoroughly believable & handled beautifully.
I fell in love w/ Logan & Claire's story, and am just as much in love w/ Sean & Riley's! The way the overall story arc is written is blended perfectly, as well! We get to see more of the team - the stories aren't game-heavy at all, it's all about character development & the team itself & how they have become a family. Absolutely, positively recommend this series & I am SUPER excited for book 3! : )
Loved this book. It was a dream come true for Riley. Young and in love. Told that she was too young and its a crush. Riley is young but very smart when it comes to football. Her grandfather taught her everything she knows. Riley's parents are pieces of work. Riley leaves town for college comes home a different woman. Sean grows tired of his old sleeping ways with a different woman every time. Love is found .
This is an awesome book. I am not usually a sports romance genre reader, but this book changed my mind. Riley grew up around football since her grandfather owned the Knights and she knew everything about the sport. She fell in love with Sean the first time she saw him. She waited until he grew up and was ready for her and once he was they experienced a great love affair. They had to deal with a few jealous people, but tgey survived it all. Beautifully written.
I received an ARC copy of After All These Years for an honest review. This is one of the best books by Mary J. Williams I read so far! It is a complex and fast story with some amazing twists. Mary J. Williams captured me with the very first sentence. I had to read the book in one go and could not put it aside. Thank you, for this amazing story!
Sports romance books are my favorite! This was a new author for me so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised! The book had a good flow and balance. The book focuses on a teenage crush that eventually blooms into a beautiful romance. There are roadblocks along the way however fighting for love is worth it! If you enjoy sports romance, you will enjoy this book!
There’s not too much sports references in this book that you need to understand to keep up luckily as I know nothing! It’s a lovely storyline of young love put on hold for the age gap to be more acceptable. Great characters with a brilliant heartfelt performance from Lacy. #audiobookobsessionreviewer
This is the first book I read by this author. I am so happy to have found her. The main characters Riley and Sean work so well together. I really liked how the author was able to show the maturation of each character as time passed.. I actually read this book in one sitting it was that good!!!
Absolutely loved Riley and Sean's story. Talk about two gorgeous people, one who knew what love was about, no thanks to her parents, the other who just had to accept it. Engrossing from the first page. Looking forward to book three.
