You think you've got problems? Don't talk to Maggie Lee about problems.
Her mother's escaped from the loony bin, and rumor has it she's robbing people for ice cream money.
A mob boss is insisting she liberate his daughter from a mental hospital that Maggie's pretty sure she belongs in.
And people keep trying to kill her.
While Maggie deals with all that, she must also contend with her dysfunctional family; the challenges of parenting her orphaned niece; a handsome, but dangerously curious reporter; a hot manny who lives under her roof and gets under her skin; a smooth and sexy con man; and a certain murder mentor/cop redhead. And, honestly, it's getting too much to bear. Good thing she has her talking animals to confide in.
But with everything that's going on, can the intrepid, yet inept, hitwoman figure out how to keep everyone she loves safe without ending up in jail or killed?
Or will she just take up residence in a rubber room herself? Truth be told, she could use the break.
Ok I read through 14bks only to have the reason I kept reading dispatched with in half a scene? Wtf just happened? Why was so much time wasted setting up a connection and chemistry only for it to suddenly disappear in? Worst "closure" ever. Considering I burned through these in 3 days, safe to say I was loving them......now I'm just annoyed
The Hitwoman and the Mother Load by J.B. Lynn is another winner in this series. Poor Maggie is overwhelmed in this one. Katie is rebelling, her father removed her mother from the mental facility, an old friend returns, Maggie finally finds her sister and Vinny is in the wind and plotting revenge against Maggie. There is some really heart tugging moments in this one as well as laugh out loud moments as Maggie's life is imploding.
Fast paced action and the wonderful quirky family and friends kept me turning the pages. I really love this series and want the next one now.
This is another winner in the Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman series. our favorite hitwoman, Maggie, is feeling overwhelmed by life and all of the demands placed on her by her three jobs, but mostly by her strained relationship with her niece, Katie. Maggie is Katie's guardian and Katie keeps lashing out at Maggie and telling her, among other nasty things, that she hates her. Any mom knows that's almost a rite of passage in raising kids, but Maggie is already feeling inadequate, so the words cut her deeply.
Maggie is also pulled in multiple directions by the men in her life and must make some decisions. Add in her quest to find out what happened to her missing sister, Darlene, and Maggie is on overload...but ice cream can make everything feel better. I'll never look at mint chocolate chip ice cream the same way again...lol.
This is a funny and fast paced novel. While it is a stand alone book, it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all.
Maggie's father has broken mom out of the loony bin and they are on the lam. Complicating matters even more is the information and startling discovery about Darlene. Maggie is dealing with conflicting and heartbreaking situation with Patrick while Zeke rolls back into town to keep Maggie out of trouble. She's at her wits end trying to deal with Katie and the upheaval in all of the aunt's lives and trying to keep Angel at a distance. Loads of information on Darlene, Patrick's other secret lives, & Armani and her tiles. Fast, funny, heartbreaking, sad, & action packed!
One of my favorite series and authors. I can't get enough of Maggie & gang. This time there is a lot going on and Maggie is having a tough time. One of my favorite characters makes an appearance and quite a few shockers! It kept me turning the pages. I devoured the book in one sitting. I highly recommend this series and anything JB Lynn writes!
I have enjoyed reading this series of books so far. I enjoy the development of the characters, the situations that they get themselves into and how the animals are involved in the storyline.
Mom broke out. She had help. Dad decided he could not live without his wife. Unfortunately he also decided to pull a Bonnie and Clyde capper. Maggie got the noble job of collecting her mother while not getting killed.
There is just so much happening in Maggie’s life. I mean she has people after her and people who want to help her. I like that I get to see the strings being tied instead of just letting the situation go. There is an ending that is necessary.
A propulsive comedy thriller with lots of laughs and lots of character development. Maggie appears to make decisions that will have impacts on other regular characters in the series.
While i enjoy this series a lot this book really got me going. There is sooooo much going on in this book. There is no way NOT to be sucked into the action. It's another crazy day for Maggie. Her mom is broken out of the mental institution and she's on the lamb with Maggie's dad who is escaped from witness protection. The two of them on there own in a pretty big problem the two together is a nightmare. There is stuff going on with her missing sister a man from her past and the red head and well just a lot. You would think it might be to much but it really just keeps the story flowing. I have to say i was disappointed in the red head and how that all ended and it felt kind of abrupt. He was a huge part of Maggie's life for a while and even though he's been slowly shifting out it i didn't care for the way it ended with him. Felt a little icky and if i were Maggie he would get a huge punch in the face. Because i was already kind of done him i got over it pretty quick. There are other interesting men in her life. Maggie still has her hands full on so many levels but thankfully can hear her animals again. Honestly i didn't realize what a big part that has played in the series until she lost to ability to communicate with them. An action packed adventure as always this book was one i could not put down.
Well book 14 started with a bang and just kept me hooked the whole way though I have to say I love that Maggie got clarity with the red headed Irishman and she showed maturity beyond her sanity level with how she dealt with that when she had so much else going on but just when you think Maggie can move on with the hot Manny Angel, Zeke shows up again to throw an arrow into Maggies heart and mix this up some more in more ways than one...lol Then we have little Katie struggling and finally letting her grief flow and yes she is spewing it all over the one person who loves her beyond reason Maggie but we generally hurt the ones we love when we are hurting. Maggies mum disappears from the loony bin and I know it's not the first time and Maggie pretty much knows her father and mother are together but she still wants to find her and keep her safe, then add Maggie's sister Darlene into the mix she is supposed to be dead but is she really can Maggie handle the truth when she finds out and what does reported jack really want??? so many questions and tis book has all the answers but I'm not going to give them away :-)
As usual my only complaint with this book is that it was not long enough it finished way to quick and I want more Maggie, more dee, god and piss and lots more Angel :-)
What could be better than the 14th book of this series??? (Duh-the 15th book! Hope it is written soon!) This book had it all: parent problems, sister joy and problems, problems with Katie's behavior, problems with boyfriend Patrick, the return of Zeke and Ms.Whitehat, and the undercurrent between Maggie and Angel. It will make you anxious, angry, upset, scared, but most of all, it will make you race to the end of the book and wait impatiently for the next book. Throughout it all, those crazy/sweet animals have Maggie's back. Their unconditional devotion to Maggie makes up for many disappointments. I can't wait to see what happens next. Will Tony Delveccio punish his bodyguard for attacking Maggie or is that ignored? Will Patrick stay away? Who will tell Mags about her brother? What will Armani predict next? Will Marshall and Susan get married? So many loose ends! I'd say JB has done her job well- I loved this book and she has me begging for more! What do you think?
Once again, Ms. Lynn has done an excellent job of thrilling and entertaining this reader with the latest adventures of Maggie Lee and her motley band of pets and humans. I can't love the pets anymore than I already do. My favorite, of course, is Piss the cat, but only by a hair. Godzilla and Dee Dee are close behind. The tension between Maggie and Katie, her niece, is breaking my heart, but I know they'll come through it. Love will find a way. And hopefully, love will also find a way for Maggie and...
I'd say more, but I hate spoilers. You'll have to read the book to find out what I'm talking about. If you want fun and action and romance and suspense and a little tenderness, get reading the whole series. They're fast reads, so in no time you'll be caught up and like me - sitting here waiting for the next book to be out.
I enjoyed this next book in the HItwoman series. There was a lot of action and several plot lines. Maggie's relationship with Katie is not going well, as Katie is acting out and is blaming Maggie for all her troubles. A very funny scene is when Maggie brings God to see a therapist so she can deal with her own issues. It is hysterical. Another plot line is finding her sister Darlene. Zeke returns in this book. Armani is around as is Delvecchio and Angel for whom she has fond feelings. Patrick makes a couple of appearances. As all this is going on Maggie's mother has been taken from her facility by her father and they are committing some strange crimes. Maggie's life is crazy and the book is fast moving and I couldn't put it down. There was a cliff hanger at the end and now I wish I could read the next book!
This time JB Lynn blew it out of the water!!! The title is soooo appropriate - unfortunately Maggie has not hit the mother load - - the mother load hits her! Her mother's missing & then adding to that she has to deal with huge surprises involving Patrick, Jack, & Angel. Then there's a blast from the past with the return of Zeke & her dad, & news of her sister. Also, Katie is acting out & says she hates her. The only constants in Maggie's life right now are her animals & their love for her. It's basically nonstop action as Maggie ping-pongs through her daily life basically reacting to events as they hit her. The ending of this book appears to be opening up the door to a whole new/different adventure that is Maggie's life. This is definitely one Hitwoman book not to miss!!
This is a great book; this is the fourteenth book in the Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman series by JB Lynn. Maggie Lee is trying to juggle her niece, her jobs one is actually a hitman for a mob boss, and her crazy dysfunctional family. When her dad who is on the run breaks her mother out of the crazy house, it is up to Maggie and her animals to find her. I love how Maggie can talk to and understand her animals, I wish I could. We also learn some interesting things about her family. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
I love Maggie and her crazy family. This book moved a bit slow for me and I think it was because Maggie seemed so out of sorts. First Katie was acting out the 'I hate you' stuff and then Maggie seemed to think that she was always the guilty one responsible for all events. It was good to see some loose ends get tied up happily and the scene in the therapist's office with Maggie and Godzilla was hilarious but I was hoping for more closure. I will be keeping my eye out for the next Book #15 and hope to see what's up the tree and that there is some happily ever after for Maggie. The humor in these books is great and I recommend them to anyone who likes strong and independent female leads. You better get going though because you need to start at the beginning.
I had a hard time rating this book because, while I really like Lynn's writing style, content & humor, this book fell a little short for me. Most of this had to do with my feelings that this book was rather disjointed & abrupt. I found the major relationship changes both annoying, unexpected &, in certain instances, unnecessary (don't want to specify for those who have not read this book yet). I sometimes find myself wanting to smack Maggie, the aunts & several other major characters upside their heads & just say "get on with it". Sorry, but I just feel like this book is veering away from the funny, quirky cozy mystery genre & into more of an ongoing "soap opera" type of book
I don't think a book has ever made me laugh so hard that I had to stop reading it. One scene had me laughing hysterically and I had to put my Nook down so I could hold my stomach and wipe my eyes. When I calmed I picked up the book again but just glancing at it had me laughing again. I think I really needed to laugh. Full review soon.
I absolutely love this series - I anxiously wait for the next installment each time. Fortunately the author seems to write fast! This book is no exception, it is very entertaining and even suspenseful! Love it!
I really like this series and can't wait to see who Maggie runs into next. The situations are so complex and interesting. I thought the talking animals would be a deterrent but I so enjoy their interaction. Anyway, I haven't tired of this series and can't wait for the next installment.
I can't believe I finished reading this one already! Laugh out loud funny with mysterious twists and turns. Can't wait to find out what's in the cat's nest!
