Christina Ross began writing on nights and weekends while working as an intern for an international, iconic fashion magazine. After eight years, she left that position as an editor. Many of Christina's narratives reflect her background as an insider in the world of fashion.
Now, with a successful fashion career behind her, Christina divides her time between her apartment on Park Avenue in Manhattan and her new home along the coast of Maine. Christina loves spending quality time with her girlfriends in both locations. A lifelong animal-lover, Christina's favorite charity is the ASPCA, to which she encourages all her readers to contribute.
I liked this series well enough until this book's ending. There is no resolution to who is trying to kill them, and their "solution" for how to handle the problem was utterly absurd. This is supposed to be the last book in the series, but the author put out the idea that if enough people were interested, she would revisit these characters. Based on the ending of this book, I'm not interested in reading anything else she writes. There is having a little fantasy in your romance and the willing suspension of disbelief, but then there is the ridiculous idea of running a multi-billion dollar empire from your secluded hiding spot where you'll also can your food and your PA and her family join you willingly giving up everything about their lives. And the entire "resolution" takes place in about 10 paragraphs.
UGHHHHH!!! I don't like quick engagements. I'm not seeing the connection between the main couple. The female is also a bit annoying now. I'll still listen to the last book in this series.
These books drag on and on and have no substance. No character build up, no suspense, repetitive, predictable...can’t even read the 4th to finish the series.
(3.5 Stars) "Annihilate Me volume 3" finds our heroine, Jennifer reeling from the assassination attempt on Alex's life. He was more than aware of the death threats; yet, he purposely kept this information from her. Of all people to withhold information from, Jennifer should not be one of them. As it is she struggles terribly with trust issues and Alex's action does not help.
As Alex recovers in the hospital, Jennifer takes on his role in order to proceed with the business end of things. While attending a social event, Jennifer comes face to face with Immaculata who makes it clear she is not welcome among 'her people.' When Immaculata throws champagne in Jennifer's face the smack down begins and I was happy to read she got hitch slapped. It could not have happened to a better person.
Jennifer's roommate, Lisa, is now ready to date and when she gets a peek at the new security detail named Mitch/ Tank and discovers he also likes zombies, they decide to accompany Jennifer and Alex on a first date.
While I enjoyed the suspense of this book, it was rather short and I felt somewhat cheated. At times this read felt like a 'filler' book that didn't move the plot forward by much. Additionally, much of the dialogue between Alex and Jennifer became pretty 'sappy.' I felt like, "Geez, we get it even if you don't. We know you love each other and you both have been hurt!"
With that being said, this is the reason for the 3.5 star rating. I hope that volume four is a little more focused and moves the plot forward.
I love smart female characters who're equals with their partner. But Jeniffer seemed to know everything better than the man on her side who's been very successfully funning an emporium before he even met her. She made him look stupid....she made him look like a school boy... Didn't like it at all It didn't fit into the whole story. #2 was so much better and so promising...
Least favorite of the three... the first book remains the most fun. No spoilers but hated the direction of the story and wished the author stuck with what she does best-- chick lit, not a Chuck Norris rip-off.
Given the ending, not sure where she'll go with book 4. Doubt it's a trip I take.
This review is the same for each of the 4 volumes of this series. Each volume should be read in order and before moving on to the next volume. No volume is a standalone and you have to read all of them for the complete story.
The characters are serious, responsible, intelligent adults. I liked the interaction between Alex Wenn, a billionaire who runs his own conglomerate, and Jennifer Kent, a recent very sharp MBA graduate who moves from Maine to NYC and needs a job. Jennifer lives and breathes business.
Alex is a young widower who hasn’t had interest in any woman since the death of his wife 4 years earlier. Jennifer was raised by a verbally and emotionally abusive father and a weak mother. She has huge trust issues. In spite of those difficulties Alex and Jennifer have immediate chemistry when they meet. Their romantic relationship moves forward slowly at first but their business relationship is instantaneous. They work well together and their skill sets compliment one another making them a great team.
Someone out there doesn’t like our lovers and wants them dead. Is the villain one of the many people hurt by one of Wenn’s business deals? Is it one of the many women who want Alex for themselves?
There were a couple of very well developed secondary characters, Barbara Blackwell and Lisa Ward, who I liked a lot. Ms. Blackwell works for Wenn. Lisa is Jennifer’s childhood friend and moved to NYC with her. Lisa is a novelist who writes books about zombies.
This was a pretty good read during volumes 1 & 2. The writing was straight forward and economical most of the time. But at volume 3 I thought the pace slowed way down and Jennifer became fixated on the abuse she suffered at her father’s hand. She did a bit too much soul searching and the story started to drag. Then the author really buried what had been a good story with minutiae. There was a pretty good story going on so I’m not sure why the author needed to pause the action and add so much filler. The result of all of this filler was that I got bored and wanted to abandon the book.
Volume 4 begins and the story picks back up but it doesn’t take long before there’s far too much detail about their surroundings and other people and feelings that have been expressed repeatedly. As much as I wanted to know who was trying to kill them and why, I gave up and didn’t finish the last volume.
Moving from the love story of Alex and Jennifer this book became a suspense filled page turner, hoping that the next page would bring answers. This happened so much that I didn’t even realise I had started book 4. So as to not ruin anything, I’ll keep this review short.
Fighting for their own relationship was one thing, but fighting for their lives is something totally different. Someone has a serious issue with Alex Wenn, and with a business like his, the list of haters is huge... What started as stupid messages and emails Alex ignored, everything came full circle when messages started to come to her. This meant increased security for all and for Jennifer, it is proof something is very wrong.
Taking down this killer is one thing, finding them is something different. So when Alex is targeted after dinner and kidnapped all of Jennifer’s worst fears come true. One shoot out, a huge explosion and a dead billionaire mean the end.... With Alex missing assumed drowned and Jennifer injured she must step up into a bigger roll at Wenn Industries. Stepping back into work after her own gunshot injury has her moving out of Manhattan until this crazy person is caught. With her own personal security off Jennifer goes into hiding...
Watch this space for the perfect ending to this series...!
Alex is a man of wit and romance. He is a sly business person and has made his mark despite his parents. Jennifer is his equal in business savvy and is untrusting, especially from men. Never knew love even from her parents. Some of that Alex understands but loved a deceased wife. Took four years to get over her. But they found each other by accident and it was on! Love this series.
I love these two and all their friends. Every time these two have a happy moment, someone tries to ruin it. Glad that these two rise above, every time. Their journey has been wroten with great lines, skated with great characters. I've enjoyed them greatly. Looking forward to what comes next
I really think that it all could've been condensed down to 1, maybe 2 books. The advice and conversations between Lisa/Jennifer and Blackwell/Jennifer are a little repetitive. Half the time it's not needed. I love how Jennifer is a strong and I love the story line. The convos are just getting old.
This volume was also exciting the only part I kind of felt was Disappointing was when Jennifer wouldn't listen when they told her to stay away to keep you safe apparently she didn't realize she was causing more trouble but Guess the author Felt that was the way to portrait her other than that the book is really great to read and has a very nice ending
Whilst I'm still enjoying this series, it was a tad predictable and the characters have made amazing leaps in personal growth. Not quite realistic but we read for escapism right?
This love story just keeps building along with dangers seen and unseen. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series. Alex and Jennifer deserve some peace in their lives without having to look over their shoulders.
The first book was awesome. Not sure why it took a wrong turn but there was no character development, and Jennifer dwelled too much on her issues. I’m only getting #4 to scroll to the ending to see who this “culprit” was. Don’t recommend this series at all.
Holly as well as Alex is also having death threats and things don’t end well, has a surprise ending. Tank, the security guard and Lisa, Hollies friend are starting a new relationship or at least finding common interests. Now starting on vol. 4
These are just okay and way too short. Thank goodness their on KU otherwise I would be furious about their length. The story really could be just one book.
