Dayna has two lives that have both become full-time jobs. Back in LA, she's worried about her friend Shelly, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. And that one might be Dayna's fault, because Shelly had gotten caught up in Dayna's last adventure. On the Andeluvian side, she's about to be made a Dame---landed nobility. Except the owls are still protesting anything involving her and refusing to release the finances, the nobles bicker like spoiled children, and the king always has one more job to set in front of her . . .
This is another strong story. It's interesting to see a lot of the fallout that's been building up for several books now, both good and bad. Dayna's certainly impressed the king, but he's not above using her in his various political machinations.
I also liked having a more "normal" case at the beginning. We finally get to see Dayna in more of her usual job, her usual setting, where magic and interesting creatures aren't complicating things. And, of course, this comes with more usual complications, like jealousy at her boyfriend's new work partner.
On the Andeluvian side, some of the hints from previous books soon turn into the main case---what exactly happened with the Albess, and why can't anyone get a straight answer out of the owls?
I liked the resolution with Shelly, too. That scene in Dayna's apartment was too funny, and it shows Dayna has important allies on both worlds.
Overall if you've enjoyed the series thus far, this is yet another good read. I rate this book Highly Recommended.

Amazing and heartbreaking...
Dayna is growing as a person and overcoming more challenges and adversary than many people face, but she has a fabulous "squad" with her that has her back. I'm just as in love with this series as I was at book 1.
I love the realism during the LA scenes and how that's carried over to Andeluvia, it adds to the Forensics and helps emphasize the Fantasy. So happy I found this series!!! ❤

I have enjoyed this series. The characters and plots are excellent
The author handles the juxtaposition of worlds well. The protagonist is a good character with a balance of virtues and glass which makes her believable. The intelligent animal or fantasy characters are appealing and seem like people. I look forward to reading more of these.

Twits and turns aplenty
Dayna Chrissie is back and she is still throwing her two worlds into chaos.
Finally she is taking care of her LA friends as well as her Andaluvian friends and this is making for a better story.

Excellent series

Recommended friendship and duty sword, guns, science and magic. Forensic law enforcement on two worlds.

Good, but...
Good, but it got pretty slow in the middle. What happened to Perrin was awful, and I’m glad Shelly got help. I hope Esteban gets to experience Andeluvia sometime.

This is an author with an exceptional imagination. I really hadn’t expected the storyline to be as detailed and intricate as this tale is unfolding to be.

Wow!
The story line continues to evolve and get better and better! When I find an author who catches my attention by the first few chapters, and has me reading at every opportunity, then you know you have to have more! On to the next book!!!
