Screwmates

I knew from the first time I saw Marc Kirby that I was screwed.

Big eyes, scruffy face, brown curls – yes, yes, and yes. The man is wicked hot.

He’s also my roommate, and since I work nights and he’s at class all day – it’s like living alone at half the rent.

Then an unexpected night off turns into an unexpected morning in Marc’s bed, but it turns out we can't even figure out the screwing.

This is not great news for Marc who’s going on a “bangcation” at the end of the summer – a whole month in France that he’s planned to spend getting busy with the women of Paris.

It’s also not great news for me for obvious reasons.

With both of us needing work on our skills, there’s only one logical solution to our predicament.

Told you I was screwed.

There is a talent in the ability to make me laugh and swoon at the same time, and Kayti McGee has this talent. This is not the fist time I have thought this, and I have enjoyed other books by her, but this one, for me, is her best yet. It just really worked.

Marc and Madison are wonderful. Marc is a PhD candidate and future teacher who is convinced his life is as beige as his couch. Madison is an artist, and a talented one, who hasn't yet gotten to the point where she can support herself with her art. From their first impactful meeting to their nights on the couch, in wine tasting events, and other places, I was drawn to them and their story. And, really, it is impossible not to be as they are so human, so real. The conversation in the aisles when they go shopping together *might* have been oddly similar to one I have had in my own life.

Ahem.

Anyway.

Madison and Marc were real, they felt like people to me, and I just loved both of them.

It's a balance...if I am going to laugh, I need to not lose the heat, the attraction, and the build up to more. If I am going to enjoy the sexy times, I need to not have them seem dirty when juxtaposed with the humor. And, it was balanced perfectly. The writing, the characters, the pacing. It all worked so I was invested in their relationship while laughing.

I am not going to get into how she does this, exactly, as it would ruin the story...but I can say that I have never laughed harder at 2 people NOT having sex.

Just read the book, you will be so glad you did.

"Shall we toast?" Marc held up his glass.
I raised mine and clinked it against his. "To good wine and even better sex!"
"Seduction!" he corrected. "The sex itself is going to be awesome."

➦Yeah. I approve.

➦What's the best way to get to know your hot, albeit a bit nerdy room mate? Buy some wine! And try to be friendly. Wine, bringing people together since... since it was invented. Also a great

➦I digress... Our heroine here is an artist and has been living with a room mate for months without actually even knowing him. Their schedules just don't match. She works and he is always away studying. But it all changes when he finally graduates. How to celebrate?

➦You guessed it! And then may be one thing will lead to another...

➦Just make sure you don't over-do it, yeah? But IF by some chance you do, there's always tomorrow and more WINE to be had. So let's toast!

➦Wait, no. So anywhoooo... the hero thinks that the heroine needs help in the department of "seduction" and they decide to help each other out. And that's how she comes up with a name "Screwmates" for her new comic strip about... herself and her... um, situation. Which, actually, takes off and becomes somewhat popular online.
description

➦Don't mind if I do. :D I actually enjoyed this read just fine. It is fun, flirty and cute. Unfortunately I just never fell in love with the hero. His character felt rather underdeveloped and I never found myself le swooning over him. He's like most dudes: bad at expressing his feelings. Kinda wanted him to throw the heroine a bone once in a while.

➦If you like fun, cute reads with roommate trope and quirky characters this one is for you!

Screwmates had me laughing from Chapter 1! This book had anyone near me looking at me like I was nuts because I would just bust out laughing.

Madison and Marc are roommates, not roommates. Because of different schedules, they really don’t see each other until circumstances have them both at home at the same time. Liquor, underwear and bad decisions seem to hand in hand with these two, but Ms. McGee makes the story so real and funny.

After some really bad misses, Madison and Marc finally hit.

“This had been so long in coming, that – well, it didn’t take too long in the coming, so to speak.”

After some complications, Madison and Marc find their HEA and it makes you smile. Really big.
Kayti McGee once again delivers a masterpiece in rom-com!

Review at Of Pens and Pages.

Hilarious, fun, and hot! Screwmates had a bit of a slow burn to it, and I couldn’t stop laughing at Madison and Marc’s failed attempts to get intimate. Here, we have two adorkable people who just want to learn the art of seduction, but in the end learned something even more valuable.

Since the unfortunate first meeting where her chin attacked his penis, Madison and Marc have barely seen each other. Madison’s hoped to hang out with her room mate, among other things, but unfortunately, their schedules were too different. When Marc finally finished his graduate studies and Madison surprisingly had a free night, the two shared a glass of wine or ten, and woke up in bed together, naked and un-f*ed.

After a few more failed attempts to sleep together, the two decided to help each other perfect the art of seduction. Marc’s going to Paris for a “bangcation”, and he can’t afford to muck it up. Madison hasn’t been in a relationship in a while and would like to rectify that.

The lessons aren’t just about sex. It’s about the anticipation and foreplay before the sex. Seduction. That includes wining and dining, and conversation. Dates, if you will. Their adventure makes amazing material for Madison’s comics on Tumblr, too. A comic that soon goes viral.

I really, really like Marc. He’s not the usual hero who knows how to give an orgasm with just a flick of his finger. Okay. Maybe he does. But he’s so charming in that adorkable, Peter Parker kind of way. He’s smart, prefers wine over bourbon, likes floral-scented organic body wash, and can cook. What a refreshing man!

And Madison is hilarious! She’s a comic-savvy artist who is sometimes too awkward for her own good. But she’s charming in her own way, and her passion for her budding comic artist career is admirable. Mostly, she’s funny. She loves comic books, and it’s hilarious to read the things she says.

Told in Madison’s POV, Screwmates is a standalone story full of humor, pop culture, and little angst. A fun read if you’re in need of a pick-me-up.

And I don’t know about you, but I really want to read the comic book Madison made!

Oh Dear God, she did it again! Kayti McGee had me laughing, snorting, and in fear of peeing myself while rolling into the fetal position during a seriously ri"dick"ulous scenario. She brings a whole new meaning to big man on campus...

I have to say that the more of these off the wall romantic comedies she writes the more my abs hurt from laughing. So keep writing, I will continue to avoid the gym but still work muscles I didn't know I had.

Madison and Marc are definitely a match made in nerddom. (Nerddom is a nerdy domain. A legit word...one day) Though they belong to opposite sides of the spectrum, both belong firmly in the geeky world. I may not subscribe to the sexiness of Wonder Woman undies but I have several Spider-Man, Wolverine, and X-Men. No doubt they are awesome, but sexy....um, no.

I absolutely fell all over myself with the shenanigans and fan fiction of events that may or may not have happened. I would just like to say, Kayti if you do a sitcomic of the Screwmates, it better be available for signing.

Be warned:

Copious amounts of wine were harmed, mislabeled, and desecrated during the entirety of this book. Proceed with caution.

Oh and crostini in your purse, I wouldn't recommend it.

Utterly ADORKABLE! Hilarious, awkward, ridiculous, and incredibly entertaining! I expected no less from Ms. Kayti McGee! Madison is a charming, quirky, and awkward heroine that millennials will be able to relate to right away. Marc is just as awkward and charming as Madison, but has hella' mommy issues and he's packing one hell of a body. Together these two are a disaster, but it wouldn't have worked any other way. SCREWMATES will have you busting at the seams in no time! If you are looking for a comical romance to liven up your night...look no further. SCREWMATES is where it's at!

This book is fun fun fun, I may have giggle snorted a lot whilst reading it gave me happy vibes all the way through.
Marc and Madison are adorable they are both nerds but cute nerds. Madison is an artist who gets a new roommate Marc their first meeting sets the tone for the rest of the story ( so funny ).
She is quirky socially awkward and has absolutely no filter whatever she's thinking just comes out. Marc at first seems a standoffish serious bore but he's definitely not. He has a plan to go to Paris for lots of wine and women but he has a problem he has no clue about women so Madison offers her help. Their unsuccessful attempts at getting it on are hilarious but when they do there Is no stopping them!
If your looking for a fun book with a slightly different edge one that will make you laugh and smile you will love this.

I really hate when the humor feels forced. It was the case with this one (for me, anyway). I also wasn't a fan of the main character's voice. She just annoyed the hell out of me. Another thing--despite the title, no boinking happened until, like, 60% into the book. :/

The rating is based on my enjoyment so no hate please!!! It doesn't mean other people wouldn't enjoy this.

Holy cats and praise to Odin this book is great!

I'm prepared and ready to write my review with my super hero (female only) tshirt on and my Wonder Woman knickers. I'll post a pic on my Pinterest board - excuse the thigh gap.

I've come to expect Kayti's books to make me full on belly laugh and Screwmates had me howling. It's pure slapstick comedy like Laurel and Hardy on wine and bourbon but with sexy snogging and superhero pants thrown in.

For yonks I've been waiting for the perfect brown curly haired book boyfriend with eyes like chocolate for me to get some Joe Wicks inspiration going. Joe is my Marc. And I want to go on a bangcation with him. Guilteeee!

Best bits of comic genius:

"Those were some excellent legs. Superhero legs, if you will. And you will."

"I was about as immaculate as Mary. It would be pretty obvious if the eagle had landed, so to speak, and the nest was definitely empty."

"Was it uncouth to fingerpaint on your roommate? With your tongue?"

"Wonder Woman is second just behind Princess Leia for sex appeal. It's science."

"When he bit gently for the last time-sweet baby Kal-el in a Kansan field."

I do wonder if Kayti writes after drinking copious amounts of gin, because she is crazy pants!

Madison has a new flat mate. A seriously hot male flat mate. His is a Colin Farrell look alike and he sleeps in the room next to her. Unfortunately the first time she meets Marc is when her head collides with his penis - true story.

These two both have completely different lifestyles, Marc studies all day and spends his weekends helping his mother on her farm. Maddie works every night but is home in the weekend working on her online comics so these two live together peacefully for months without really seeing each other.

When Maddie's workplace needs to close for a few nights and Marc comes to the end of his studies for the year, these two finally spend some time together getting to know each other better.

Marc is doing his thesis at University and is going to be taking up a teaching position next semester, well after he goes on the trip of a lifetime through France on his 'bangcation.' He definitely has the hot professor look going on so Maddie doesn't think he will have problems finding any 'bangees.'

Maddie shares her love of superheroes, comics and eating fruit loops in front of the tv with a glass of bourbon. Marc introduces Maddie to different wine varieties in an effort to have a bit of knowledge behind him when he gets to France. However, one thing he really needs practice in is seducing a woman. Maddie is more than happy to be a willing participant.

These two trying to get it on together was like watching an episode of Mr Bean, seriously cringe worthy! However, when they finally find their groove (<--sexual innuendo right there) the sparks between them fly.

What Marc doesn't know is that he has become Maddie's muse and their behind closed doors fun is not as private as he thought it was...

Warning: Screwmates should not be read while consuming a beverage. I laughed so hard my drink shot right out of my nose. It's OMG funny! It's a fun story with the right about of wit and banter.

Madison, a socially awkward graphic artist/aspiring comic artist has moved in with Marc Kirby, PhD/future History professor. The very first time they meet Madison introduces herself head first into Marc's crotch. Six month later, Marc has graduated with his PhD and has more time to get to know his roommate.

They are both mutually attracted to each other but between their awkwardness and mishaps they can't get it together. They agree to work on their seduction techniques since it would benefit them both. Marc has planned a 'bangcation' in France to make up for lost time while studying and can use the practice. Madison desperately needs help with lingerie, it's time to put away the superhero bra and panties (cap included) and move on to a more seductive/grown-up look. Madison may have taken things a little too far when she loosely documents their awkward moments in a sitcomic called Screwmates that she shares with her followers. Can these two figure out how to seduce each other so they can get to banging or is there no hope for the awkwardly challenged? Madison also may have forgotten to share her sitcomic with Marc, awkward!

Grab a glass of wine, a bowl of fruit loops and get ready to laugh out loud! 5 Stars!

Oh My Gawd!!! To spend one day in the mind of Kayti McGee would be a freaking trip at an amusement park. Her writing style has kept me drawn into the story where I can consume it in a sitting, I'm like a child that will not put down my kindle for a second when I read one of her books.

In Screwmates we have Madison who is an artist, she is awkward, nerdy, sexy, hilarious and apparently has no filter. Madison has not really put herself out there in the dating world, she loves to close herself off and draw. She finds herself writing an online sitcom and uses her and her roommates attempts at seduction as the storyline. It may not be one of the brightest ideas she has ever had.

Marc Kirby is a very studious man, he may be sexy as hell but only has one thing in mind and that is his month in France to study, wine drink and explore his way through some of Paris's beautiful woman. His only problem is his lack of knowledge in wine and seducing a woman, that's were his roommate Madison is more than willing to help him out in this predicament since she too is unfamiliar in these areas. What possibly could go wrong with two sexy roommates drinking wine and seducing each other?

This is one hilarious read with the longest play of seduction possible but when all plans align, it is the sexiest of moments two characters can explore. I loved everything about this story, I was able to laugh and grin my way through it and even had a heartfelt emotional moment. 5 silly grin on my face stars.

This book is for every woman who has ever spent minutes, hours, days, etc. mulling over how to seduce the person she has on her love radar. Every mishap Madison experiences will resonate in a hilarious fashion and, ultimately, give the reader comfort that she is not alone in the quest for sexy times, ones that will live up to those in her imagination. Madison is Diana Prince, Peter Parker, Clark Kent/Lois Lane, and Princess Leia all wrapped into one adorable heroine fans of excellent romantic comedy will embrace. Marc is pretty fine himself, so do yourself a favor: pick up this read and get ready to laugh aloud as the awkward, hot academic and the quirky, hopeful artist keep hope alive for all of us who've tried to understand wine varietals, Karma Sutra positions, and acceptable morning coffee creamers.

The premise was so promising. I was enticed by the idea of roommates trying their luck at seduction. They failed, they succeeded with sex and wine tasting, and gave me lots of laughter at the beginning. But sadly, the story just got jammed there. I think the couple reached that level of physical attraction with sparks and lots of sexual tension. Was it LOVE? Did the hero strongly love the heroine? In my opinion, not solid! I don’t know how to feel about the heroine as well. I liked her quirkiness, she was hilarious, but there came a point when she became over the top, a tad pushy, and a little obnoxious too. The build-up started alluring, but how this book ended was done so haphazardly. I think there was a huge gap between the reconciliation and the conclusion. The ending was so far-fetched! It felt like the author wanted to get it over with fast. Fun, light, quick, but not completely satisfying.

This is just for the audiobook version.

I couldn't get past the first few minutes of listening to this. I picked it up because it keeps coming up as also-read of books I liked and it's not even five and a half hours and it's an Audible Escape title. But I can't get past the narrator's voice. To me, it sounds like a smoker covering up with helium. I played a sample for Melissa and she says it's not bad and has lots of character. So this is totally a me-thing. Still, I can't do it. I might come back and try the eBook, but maybe not...

Madison and Marc are roommates that typically start screwing after a drunken night when too much was said. Quirky, funny heroine meets serious almost no life hero.

It was a quick read with very funny conversations and very funny secondary characters that at times felt very juvenile. If you need a quick read to pick you up and make you laugh, grab this one.

This book had me caught me right from the start and had me laughing out loud. I found the situation Madison and Marc were in to be completely relatably and often times amazingly awkward-just like it would be in real life. I loved this book from start to finish.

When you hear about a story with roommates you expect there to be some kind of friends to lovers aspect-and that’s always a huge draw for me. However, in Screwmates we have roommates who were on completely opposite schedules so they really never saw each other. One night on a couch with some wine changes that and we get to see an intriguing plan form.

Madison and Marc bumbling their way through a seduction plan was great. I was shaking my head at the pair of them, just waiting for the right time for them to figure out what was right in front of them. But for these characters, everything came in due time. The pacing was right for these two adorkable characters. Seriously though, I couldn’t stop laughing at the two of them throughout their attempts.

These characters are so relatable. I think every person can say at one point they’ve felt like Madison-or Marc for that matter, in regards to seducing someone. But I didn’t just laught with them, I fell for them. Marc had me shaking my head and sighing/swooning all at the same time-particularly at the end (I won’t spoil it). I loved Madison’s passion for her work; her profession and how it grows was really cool and unique in my opinion. I got all of her quirky character references and thought they were really fun.

The supporting characters here were just great too. I seriously wanted to just sit and drink with them.

If you’re looking for a funny, yet hot, rom-com then I definitely recommend Screwmates. In fact, even if you think you’re just looking for straight up sweet romance, read it. You definitely won’t regret it.

Holy Moly! Screwmates was hilarious...literally had me rolling on the floor laughing. This book had me giggling so hard, my sides were hurting at the end of the story. I mean what does a girl have to do to have a one night stand with her hot roommate? And that my friends you need to read the book to have an idea of what I am saying.

Screwmates introduces us to Madison. A very colorful, full of life artist who is a die hard comic nerd. So it makes sense that she loves to write her own mini comic series online. She works at a print shop to help make graphic tee's, bags, and photos. And in the beginning she meets her new roommate Marc, and literally falls all over him with a chin d@%k...yes use your imagination on that one. That had me spitting out my drink when I read that scene and laughing so hard. And I love her choice of undergarments with all those sassy comic heroes. Although, Marc may have been intimidated by them lol.

Marc is Mr. Serious and working his way on his doctorate in becoming a History teacher. But after a night of sitting on his couch with his roommate, Madison, he realizes his life has been dull and boring. Ready for an adventure that these two desperately need, something always interrupts them before the deed is done. I have read many Rom Com's, and I have had a great laugh or two with them, but my day was a little lighter and I had a spring in my step after I finished this book. From beginning to end, hands down I enjoyed having Marc and Madison in my book world.

This book by Kayti McGee was so much FUN! You don't always get that with a romance storyline, but this had me laughing out loud during the funny parts and swooning the next at Marc, the object of Madison's affection.

Madison and Marc end up being roommates out of convenience. Because of their schedules they barely see each other for a year before spending time together. Madison is instantly attracted to Marc, but she is so awkward she doesn't know if he feels the same. However, as you get to know them you realize how much they have in common. Both are nerdy and awkward in their own way.

The inner monologue of Madison is hilarious and we know what she's thinking and feeling every step of the way. The two act on their attraction for one another and again...it's hilarious. Their relationship is not your typical bad boy or millionaire mogul trying to win the affections of the strong willed woman and that is what I loved about it. It was fresh, funny and sexy all in the right parts.

This story has you laughing right off the bat. And it continues the whole time. The scenario is a fresh new concept and I loved reading every word this author had to write. She once again made me laugh the entire time. The utter embarrassment alone makes it relatable. We all have those moments we won't ever live down. Madison is the all around great girl with amazing talent but she is on the dorky side and doesn't necessarily even know it while Marc is ridiculously hot but has a busy life. What happens when you literally throw these two into a house together. You must read to find out. I promise you if your looking to laugh, smile and all around enjoy a book this is for you.

Marc and Madison have an interesting relationship, it's always good to know the man your trying to have sex with is not lacking in the goods department, "...tossing the towel to the floor. My eyes scanned down his very naked, very aroused body. I tried not to gape. “I think. I think I’m good,” I stuttered. Dear god, was I good." Marc was an honest man, “I don’t even know where to start. You are the most infuriating woman I’ve met since my freshman comp professor, but I never wanted to have a sex thing with her.” I liked this book, Marc amd Madison couldn't catch a break at times, amd it was funny.

Kayti McGee killed it with this book. It was so funny. Ooh and the sexual tension and build up was on point! The storyline was so fluid and drew you in from the very first page. I was turning pages and reading faster than I realized. I was so completely swept up with reading about Marc and Madison that I looked up and suddenly I'm over half way in and didn't even realize it. I completely ignored everything around me because I was laughing so hard at these two that nothing else mattered. It was the perfect read to get a little lost in and give me a good laugh. Go grab it and fall for these two crazy screwmates!
