She and her husband Jack Wilder have sold more than 7 million copies and have been translated into more than 20 languages worldwide. You can find them at their fairy tale cottage by a lake somewhere in Michigan with their 6 kids, 5 dogs, 2 cats, 2 bunnies, and way too many ducks and chickens.
Inspiring. Jasinda's story is truly inspiring. This program she has put together is easy to follow and the book is a fun, easy and informative read.
For once, I'm kind of excited to start a new diet/exercise program. It's hard to truly review this book since I've only read it, and I've yet to participate, but what I read was great.
I may come back after I do the 8-week challenge myself and give it a proper review!
Update on 1/5/17 -- As of today, I have lost 40 pounds on this program and almost 10 inches off my waist. But the best part is, that this is the ONLY thing I have ever done where I don't feel deprived and I'm never hungry. And all of my lab values at the doctor are within normal ranges. My doctor has told me to keep up whatever it is I'm doing. This program WORKS people. ;))
Update on 7/25/16 -- So, I completed her eight-week-challenge and since beginning this plan, I have lost 8.3 pounds. I recommend this book to every single person. Whether you are trying to lose weight or not. Do it for your health. I have more energy now than I had when I was 16 years old. And I have gained so much clarity on health, diet, and fitness. This is all you need (well, this and her companion journal. I highly recommend both). There are diets out there that cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I should know. I tried most of them. This is all the answers and information you need for less than $50! I wish she would've written this book 10 years ago. Would've saved me years of pounds, senseless yo-yo dieting, and needless stress.
**I have upped my rating to 5-stars because the one qualm that I had on the plates (carb cycling) is adequately explained in the weeks 7 and 8 literature, which I had not yet read earlier. I read them one week at a time.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~* Motivating, inspiring, the right words at the right time.
The last time that I was TRULY healthy was around 2010. I watched a documentary called Food Inc. and read Alicia Silverstone's controversial book, The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet. Both those things changed my life. I became a total vegan for three months and started training for the Disney Princess half marathon. I dropped like 40 pounds too. But then, I got into nursing school. And then, I started working third shift in an Emergency Room. Aaaaand, I got pregnant...and the eating plan I had adopted was nearly impossible to follow with a crazy schedule and a ton of time spent out of the house. It was a great plan. But it was pricey and one of those where you had to do a ton of meal prep in advance. So it faded away and slowly, BUT SURELY, all the weight came back.
THIS plan (because it is NOT a diet) is super easy to follow, manageable, and not super expensive at all.
I have been following Jasinda's plan for just over three weeks now and have already seen results. I am participating in her 8-week challenge now, so I will post more once it's completed. But I love her for writing this book. It's simple and it makes sense. My family has been doing it with me and it's been totally manageable.
And she does have some of what Alicia had in her book which tells me that these are things that we need to do in order to be healthy humans, period. Eat clean. Eliminate sugars. Eliminate the processed junk. And more. I won't tell you because you should read it, even if you aren't trying to lose weight.
I do wish that the food cycling was covered in greater depth. This was something I wasn't familiar with and wanted to learn more about and I feel like it is very quickly reviewed. I'm sure she'll review it during the 8-week challenge but I'd like the info in the book for future reference.
Looking forward to a happier and healthier me. :-)
Here's a story for you.. I have three little girls and a husband I LOVE more than this world. Yet I put around 5 stone on, I've lost some and then with the struggle of balancing life, work, blogging, home, and three children under 8 my weight has been a battle...
THAT IS UNTILL NOW
Jasinda's book is inspiring, I've watched her shrink before my eyes on Facebook and now read her story.. I got the couch to 5k app and I'm learning to run!! I'm starting her challenge next week... The sugar has left the house... Here comes a happy healthy home!!
Let's do this
I maybe back to say where I am in this, but if your like me and want to loose, be healthy for good. I'd highly recommend this book.. It's very easy to understand..
To be honest, I only read this book because it was free but that didn't mean I wasn't interested in it. It's just hard to read another fitness book, ya know? It feels like if you've read one, you've read them all. But knowing it's written by a romance author kind of sucked me in and well, we've all pretty much seen her progress so you can't help but be curious.
She starts us off with her history and it was hard to read what she's been through and had to go through her whole life. I did like finding out what set her on this journey and then what changes she made. One thing is for sure is that she is very passionate.
The food section was intriguing. There were definitely some things I had never heard of but let me say this, she didn't just jump into things. She's researched them and tried them out and it's working for her so there's that.
I loved getting to the running and clothing sections and I even managed to pick up a few tidbits. Hopefully, they will help me in the future.
It ends with some recipes and testimonials...again, intriguing and some of the recipes looked pretty good.
Now's the time of year a lot of people try something new and since this is free, it certainly couldn't hurt to check it out. Who knows...it might work for you!
♦ Note: This book is an updated version of Big Girls Do It Running ~
This book will change your life! I was lucky enough to be part of Jasinda's beta-test group and let me tell you I'm a better person because of it! Jasinda has taught me so much and I'm so thankful! Her 8-week plan is so easy to follow. No counting points, no feeling deprived, no gimmicks! You will feel like a million bucks after the first week! I havent felt this good in years and my energy level is through the roof! I'm telling you, she's really on to something here!!
I highly recommend BGDIR to anyone who wants to change their life for good!!!
I've been following the plan for the last few weeks. It's been truly inspiring and easy to follow. My face is thinner, my body feels stronger, and so much more energy.
There isn't a single thing in this plan that you can't follow.
I enjoyed reading Jasinda's story, it felt like talking to a friend. I'm hopeful that others will give this a try and see how much better we can live.
I bet you all were surprised to see this show up on my read shelf, huh? I can just imagine you all being like, "Whitney, that's not a romance novel!" Trust me when I say that I am just as shocked as you are. I actually have a funny story on how I even came across this book. Let me explain -
I was browsing my recommendations on my Kindle one night. Yes I know that my TBR is already overflowing, but I can't help it. I have a problem. I'm not sure exactly what I was looking for but I wasn't expecting this to show up on there. At first, I started to wonder if my Kindle was trying to tell me something. I know that I need to shed a few pounds. My love for food is starting to catch up with me. I can't help that either. I'm a foodie.
Next my mind started to ponder a different possibility. People have been posting everywhere that their electronics were listening to them. Maybe my kindle was listening to me? I complain about being big all the time, and my kindle is always with me. I mean it is possible, right?
I just bit the bullet and downloaded it. Fate brought us together for some reason, and I was going to find out why. I jumped right in and started reading about this child that grew up larger than most kids her age. As I got farther in, I learned that this woman hasn't had an easy life. Her weight has caused her grief from a very young age. It wasn't until I got to her young adult years that I realized that she is a romance author. And that is the reason it was recommended to me! Jasinda Wilder writes romance!
By this time, however, I was fully invested in her story. I was so intrigued by how she became an author and her struggles with her health. Plus the way she talks about her husband and kids is adorable. Did you know that her husband is an author as well!? They actually travel and do book tours together - while managing a huge farm and six kids. Wow! #couplegoals
The last half of the book she really starts to educate the reader about eating and exercise. I was pleasantly surprised that I wanted to keep reading and learning how her family became healthier. Honestly, I was looking up food items on amazon and wondering where I could get the items she was talking about. There is an 8 week challenge at the end that looks achievable if you are motivated. I think I am going to take her baby-steps approach and just introduce substitutions to some of my favorite things like caffeine, chocolate, and sugar. However if I ever do decide to take the 8 week challenge, I will be sure to report back with my results!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to add some of Jasinda's works to my TBR. :)
Incredibly inspiring book with lots of great information and recommendations. I haven't read any of the authors romance novels (but will remedy that soon), but I was inspired by her story and wanted to see what advice she had to share. Especially having discovered a love for running myself in the past year. Every person is different, and not everyone will benefit from the same program, which Jasinda makes clear in her book. Some things I agreed with, like cutting out sugar from your diet, because I lost 75 lbs by doing the same thing. I don't agree with her about not counting calories as that was also a major tool in my weight loss, but it didn't work for her, and it's another example where one thing may work for one person but not someone else. The biggest lesson you can learn from her book is to never give up. She went through so many trials and health issues and could've easily given up, but she created a program that worked for her and has proven to work for many others. I'm going to take some of her advice and incorporate some of her recipes into my diet. I bookmarked a lot of pages! I did learn a lot and highly recommend this book. It's also a very quick read!
YAAAASS! Here it is! The book I swear by. It's brilliantly crafted, raw, and undoubtedly the best "health" book I have ever read! I laughed, I cried, ate chocolate, drank wine, and laughed and cried some more. I have never before felt more empowered, more beautiful, more proud to be a woman. Jasinda taught me to not only love myself but to love my body and to love it enough to fuel it for life, for living. And although I have a ways to go I finally see a light at the end of the tunnel, a stronger body, a smaller pants size, and less numbers on the scale, who by the way is now my friend and no longer the dreadful enemy.
Like we say in the South—the proof is in the pudding. Well, folks, Jasinda is all up in my pudding. Just look at the cover! There's all the proof you need! She looks absolutely fabulous!
We never know what we are capable of accomplishing until we first set out to try. True, not every thing is for everyone. But this book, this program, this author. It is a perfect storm for me. I felt the pain she felt, I laughed and cried; and yeah, I triumphed with her. Whether you are on a mission to feel better, look better or just be a better person, I challenge you to walk on the Wilder side. What have YOU got to lose???
Get ready to change your life with this book! you need to get it, read it and put it into action! your smile will get brighter and how you feel about yourself will be better than it ever has
Jasinda Wilder’s book is educational, emotional, honest, and easy to follow. I was lucky enough to be selected as one of the beta test group members and I feel better physically and mentally than I have in YEARS. I don’t feel weighed down—literally and figuratively—after eating. My whole relationship with food has changed and I no longer feel guilty about eating. This book is not just about losing weight - it's about getting healthy, loving yourself, feeling better, and changing your life. I highly recommend Big Girls Do It Running to anyone who wants to accomplish those things too!

Are You Ready To Change Your Life? Then read this book!!! It has changed mine and my family's life for the better. I will forever be grateful to Jasinda for pickng me to be a part of this amazing journey.
When I started this book, I thought "I can't do this." Halfway through, I thought, "Maybe I could do this." When I finished, I decided I can do this and bought running shoes.
Are you ready to change your life? Want something real? Doable? Something that's not only healthy for you but helps you lose weight?! Well take the time to read this great book by Jasinda and invest in yourself. If I can do this anyone can! I'm so thankful that Jasinda decided to open up with everyone to share her crazy journey to help others. Thank you Jasinda!! You've changed my life. ❤️
I bought into the pre-release hype that made this book sound like a solution to many health problems and weight problems. Innovative, simple and down to earth.
Instead, I got washed out suggestions that anyone who ever has invested a little time in researching health, nutrition and exercise would know. There was nothing new or innovative about the suggestions that were made in this book. So you need to move your body and not eat junk food to lose weight? You don't say. I would have never guessed that. It's not like every doctor in the history of medicine has been telling this to patients. Or you know...not like it's something common sense dictates.
In addition to that, a lot of the suggestions given were for people who make a lot of money because the products that were mentioned aren't something a family that barely makes their rent will be able to buy. And I think those products are completely unnecessary to achieve the goals. It's all about balance.
What annoyed me even more was that this book read like a diary of the author about how tough she has had it and how much she achieved. About how smart and awesome her kids are and about her fantastic husband. And not too mention the fact that they managed all those changes while being bestselling authors. Not sure what that has to do with healthy lifestyle changes but it was mentioned throughout the book multiple times.
For anyone who wants to truly find a healthy lifestyle and learn more about nutrition, exercise, health and balance, this is not the right choice.
Blind faith is never easy. But Jasinda's passion for not only weight loss but life change is infectious. Paving her own path down and already well traveled road, Jasinda is pioneering a lifestyle. More than weight loss. More than a lifestyle change. Jasinda's plan may very well be your last stop on the weight loss roller coaster.
We own our weight. The world may have you thinking differently, but your weight and the reason(s) you hold on to it is personal. What ever your struggle may be, Jasinda's plan will have you reevaluating everything you think you know about weight loss. Week by week you will learn that you're strong enough. That you have the determination. That you're worth it.
Why buy a book about a topic that has been worked and reworked? Well, actions speak louder than words. Jasinda has proven this process works. She is talking the talk and walking the walk. She is a talented author who has documented her personal journey and has chosen to share that journey with the world. Her hope is to better the life of at least one person. I feel she will help change the world.
You have nothing to lose but weight, right? What better way to learn than with someone that has been through the trenches and done the work, research, and found a solution that works. I believe in Jasinda as a friend, author and now as a pioneer. You should too!
I'm already planning on signing up for my first 5k after reading this book in one sitting late last night! I think it had a couple of great new pieces of information that I'm definitely going to take and implement into my life and I'm so excited! I think it takes a lot of guts to be as honest as Jasinda was in her book, and I totally commend her for it!
This is something I haven't really heard before and I'm excited to try it! What Jasinda went through is totally inspiring! Since I just got off of weight watchers (in maintenance mode) and needing something different, what a great way to join the #biggirlsdoitrunning FB group with others.
This has opened my eyes and a new approach to food, bc I'M NOT GOING TO BE COUNTING CALORIES AND POINTS and have to everything I THOUGHT I knew about food/diet and put it in the back burner. I just have to figure out what to do with the foods that I currently have.
I hope my family with join me on this ride (get some off their meds) and maybe eventually my 2 sister's and kids bc anything sugar/processed is a killer.
I'm about to go back into the book and write down some important items as this will be a book I'll be continuing to open to reference. I can... We all can do it!
Inasmuch as I own an entire library of diet books, I feel I must immediately make this statement:
THIS IS NOT A DIET BOOK!!
IT IS A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE BOOK!!!
I cannot say enough about Jasinda Wilder's journey. It is heart-wrenching and inspiring. I was crying by page 18. I was inspired by page 19. I was living healthier by page 20.
No matter your size, health, or financial status, you WILL be able to discover your healthier self inside these pages. Putting simple practices into place will, most definitely, result in a better you. I believe that Ms. Wilder is on the verge of a movement!
What an incredible book!!! Not dieting and learning how to eat right is what every human should be doing and hearing Jasinda's journey is beyond inspiring. I've just started my own journey and I'm so excited to see where this takes me. It's been 7 very long days that I haven't had my wonderful Diet Mtn Dew...but I'm determined to keep going.
Very inspirational! I've tried reading health books in the past, and they are so boring, that I never finish. Not the case with this book! It was so so good...very easy to read and super quick. Jasinda starts by telling us her story about her weight issues. Then she tells us her journey that led her to a healthier lifestyle.
There is an 8 week challenge that helps you start a healthier lifestyle. Each week there is a challenge, along with a section of encouragement, and even homework. She eases you into the change which makes it so much easier than an 'all in' approach immediately. I think the 'all in' immediate approach is why I always fail. It's too much at once. That's not how I have felt doing it the #WilderWay.
There are lots of recipes, meal suggestions, journal pages, and so much more. I love that the recipes are easy, kid friendly and not gourmet...as I am not a fan of cooking. :) :) I'm only on week 4 of the challenge, and it's been easy for the most part. I've noticed changes already. My skin looks bette, I don't feel bloated, I sleep better, and more. I have 2 teenage kids, and so far, they have liked all of the changes that we have made.
I'm a big girl...I've tried several different ways to lose weight. (lapband, which had to be removed due to slippage), advocare (very expensive), lots of different weight loss pills, weight watchers, etc). I've never been able to stick to any of them. There is something different about the #WilderWay. I feel inspired by it. I feel like I can actually do it! It doesn't FEEL LIKE A DIET! I'm eating real food!
There is also a group on Facebook where there is so much positivity and women (and men) lifting each other up...encouraging each other. It's amazing!
I really can't say enough great things about this book and what it has already done for me. A MUST READ!
really enjoyed this book, it is very informative, realistic and heartwarming...In the last year and a half I have lost a lot of weight, but I've been at a standstill for the last month.. This book has inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and give something new a try in my diet.. I have exercising down. ..and I try to eat as clean as possible.. But I have a horrible sweet tooth.. And the sweets I crave are not good for me.. This book gives me hope that I'll be able to overcome this and it doesn't take away sweets, it replaces it with better and healthier substitutes/options!! My gut feeling is this will be a game changer for me and for everyone who gives it a shot...I saw another review stating they wish there would have been more in the book about exercise..but it has been scientifically proven that weight loss is 80% of what you eat and only 20% exercise.. So I think this book has it right..yes there is more focus on what you eat... And I'm thankful for it.. I recommend this book for anyone trying to lose weight or maintain.. It's not a diet.. It's a lifestyle change..one I'm ready to dive into head first!! And I can't wait to start the 8 week challenge!
***Update*** I completed the 8 week challenge, during this time I lost 11 pounds and a total of 10 1/2 inches all around. While losing the weight and inches is wonderful.. I also got so much more out of this. I have more energy, the joint pain I used to wake up with is almost non existent, the puffiness in my joints and face..gone..and my depression has not made an appearance. I know I'll continue on the #wilderway, it's easy to follow, and gives me energy!
I have a degree in Nutrition. I currently work at a large University, on a Project that is studying childhood obesity. I am fascinated by health and nutrition.
When I heard that Jasinda Wilder was writing this book, I knew I would read it. I wasn't sure if I would try her plan, but I was very curious.
First, let me say that I loved the book. It is funny, it is real, and it just makes so much sense. I am 5 days into her plan, the Wilder Way, and so far it has been relatively easy for me (ask me what I think after next week though! ha!). I love that it's not all or nothing... this plan eases you into a healthier lifestyle. I'm not really looking to lose weight, although I won't complain if a few stubborn pounds disappear. My main goal is to feel better - to have more energy and to love my body.
I read this book from front to back. I went back and reread some passages. I smiled and cried as I read the testimonies from her beta group.
Not everyone is going to agree with this plan. But as someone with a background in nutrition, I truly believe that this plan will benefit you if you just give it a try. 8 weeks + few changes to your lifestyle = a healthier, happier you.
It's funny how Jasinda said this. I say it's not a diet, it's a way of life all the time when explaining to people that I'm gluten and dairy free. I chose to be both because my body no longer processes these easily.
This book is such an inspiration and Jasinda's story is so compelling. The human body is absolutely fascinating. I'm looking forward to the journey. I've been running up the hill, getting to the top and shouting out "I've made it!" Only to then go rolling back down. This new approach to health is going to help me to get back to the top of that hill and shout "I'm going over this hill, join me!"
I loved this book and it makes so much sense! This is a personal journey for me, as Jasinda told a story similar to mine and I am sure many people struggling with obesity and yo yo diets.
So I am on this journey and looking forward to where it takes me!
So if anyone has ever thought it's time to take hold of my life, work towards getting healthy, this is the book for you!
I liked this but there were no revelations I didn't already know. This one is designed for those newer to a healthy lifestyle. If you're looking for a method that works, I can strongly recommend this one though. I also wish there had been a few recipes thrown in.
MICHELLE'S REVIEW I know our name says All ROMANCE Reviews but when you get the chance to read a book that is life changing- well- you do it.
I was lucky enough to be personally invited by Jasinda to join her beta group for this book and the Wilder Way- her healthy lifestyle change plan. Now- Jasinda and I have met many times, and as a blogger, I've supported her writing for years. But when she asked if I would be in for this- even if I didn't love and trust her- it would have been a resounding yes. Because I had been seeing a change in Jasinda and I was thirsty to know what it was.
Well lovers- you no longer have to wonder. BIG GIRLS DO IT RUNNING is here and it will change your life.
The first half of the book is Jasinda's story. I promise you- there will be some part of it that resonates with you. For me it was the fact that I have tried a number of diets and none of them have truly worked. Sure- I would lose weight but then my blood pressure would go up. Or I'd loose weight only to balloon back up when I ate 1 french fry. Jasinda's story is something each and every one of us has gone through in some way.
The second half of the book is all about the plan itself- The Wilder Way. This book is amazing because not only does Jasinda take you through her 8-week plan to change your life- but there are recipes, shopping lists, playlists, tips - you name it- it's there.
The Wilder Way is a book not just about weight loss. In fact, that's almost a happy side effect. What it's really about is your health. It's about being the healthiest you- about living a life free from the chains of diseases and illnesses that are most commonly tied to weight. I don't have diabetes or PCOS and never have. But because of this book- I am confident I never will. And many other girls in our beta group have seen the symptoms they were suffering with go away- healthy blood sugar levels, reduced symptoms of PCOS, even their children are focusing more and getting healthy.
And you might be wondering about the running. Well- I'm still at a walk/run mix but the fact that I run at all is a miracle to me. It's not an overnight change but it's a process and this book will help you through it.
I cannot encourage you to read this book enough. If you want to take your body back and make it healthy- grab this book today.
And when you grab a copy- if you can read it within the first week of the release- join the FB group where Jasinda will lead the weekly challenges and post fun giveaways and tips a long the way! https://www.facebook.com/groups/95721...
It's remarkable what your body will do when you get rid of all the bad thing you put into it.
I was miserable. Bloated everyday, acid re-flux everyday, tired everyday. I was feeling like I was carrying around an extra person. But then one of my favorite literary authors, Jasinda Wilder, introduced me to a new way of eating and moving, and I started feeling better.
I have to admit that I hadn't tried everything others had tried to lose weight. I didn't go out and pay all kinds of money to get the fitness I needed. The main reason, besides being a huge skeptic, was because I was frugal. That's until Jasinda. I trusted her, because, one, I'd met her, so I knew what kind of spirit she had and two, she came from a place I could relate. This is Jasinda's story so she does not just tell you what to do, she's doing it with you, she's done it, so you can see the results already played out through her experiences. And you will definitely feel the results.
Jasinda I trusted and she came at a time when I was out of ideas, and was sick and tired of being sick and tired.
I jumped in with both feet and I'll never go back. And I know what you saying, "never say never."
Now I may have one cheat meal on one day of a particular week, out of one particular month, in some particular year, but I will never go back to eating the way I was eating on a daily basis. You could not pay enough. This feels to good to ever go back.
Now, I'm not trying to tell you what to do (well, actually I am), but you should get Big Girls Do It Running, read it cover to cover. It's a really cool read. And join Jasinda and let her help you change your life. What do you have to lose? It's changing my being.
Just give her 8 weeks of your time and your life will be changed. Trust me.
Thank you, Jasinda Wilder for coming into my life with your story. #WilderWay!!!
