Golan is pillaging the galaxy, Harvesting planets for their Synthnic, and destroying entire civilizations. The Renegade, a loose-knit band of thieves, warriors, and refugees, are the only force standing in his way. Lily is a commander in the Renegade and leads a small team that focuses on relocating civilizations before their planets are destroyed. During an ambush Lily comes face to face with Ulrick, one of Golan’s strongest generals, and a fire ignites inside her that threatens to consume her. Ulrick has lived his life trying to redeem himself; to ensure that his sacrifices were not for nothing. He has grown tired of the fear he sees in people’s eyes, and of the destruction, but the time has come when he will finally make his move. Ulrick had long ago given up on the idea that his match existed, until one day the stagnant markings on his arm begin to churn. While ancient Hilian rituals demand that the two are meant to be together, time and war have dirtied what may have once been a whirlwind romance.
Lyndsay began her writing adventure when she moved to Colorado with her husband. She has always loved stories and has been an avid reader for most of her life. Her fascination with science and astronomy started in school and only grew as the years went on. Most of her inspiration comes from day to day interactions as well as movies, game’s and articles. When not writing, Lyndsay is playing with her two dogs, Skip and Peaches, or running and kick boxing at the gym.
Super fun, romantic and suspensful (and a novel be all three?!?) sci-fi novel about Lily, a leader of the resistance, and Hillian - who at first, is unexplainably and powerfully drawn to another Hillian - Ulrick, who happens to be an ages-old warrior working for the other side, Golan, pillager of planets and destroyer of entire populations.
As it turns out, Lily and Ulrick are matched, as in MATCHED, destined to be life long partners. The story leading up to this is fantastic, and not expected. I started really NOT liking Ulrick, but in the end, LOVED him for his dedication to Lily, respectful patience - and the necklace. Oh my :)
Wholeheartedly recommend this first novel by L.H. Whitlock - fantastic bit of world building that sucks you in, wonderful, quirky characters and a love that spans worlds and ages!!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I really liked the concept of this novel. And for the most part, it was executed well. I just felt that it was lacking something. There were a couple of things I needed clarification on, such as Brock and Lily. From the pool scene, I thought they were friends with benefits, but it never seemed to be mentioned again? That being said, I actually really liked Ulrick. He was such a well developed character.
A Matched Made In Heaven ....Umm I Mean The Stars!
L. H Whitlock delivers a story that reminded me of a mix between Lisa Lace, Mychael Daniels, and Eve Langlais. This Sci-Fi romance had a good mix of action, humor, and some romance. I really enjoyed the characters, and all the humor. Not all the characters were whom they seemed, and you had to question some of their motives. Lily (the heroine) was strong, spunky, and had a great sense of humor. Out of all the characters she had me laughing the most. At first, I wasn't sure what to think of the hero, Ulrick. He was cold, and came across as a cruel leader, but as he relentlessly searched for his "Match," you start to see other layers to his personality. He was very patient, and caring with Lily.
The plot was well thought out, but the execution had me confused at times. I found myself having to rewind several times. One thing that really had me confused was the relationship between Brock and Lilly, were they friend with benefits or ex-lovers? The world building was mixed. There were some things that were really creative and alien in nature, while other things were just normal. I would have loved to seen more creativity around the world building. But compared to other sci-fi romances, it was a step up. I will be on the lookout for the next book in the series.
Anna Crowe did a great job with the narration. I loved all her female characters, and the male characters were good; however, I suggest practicing with a deeper voice or a using a more prominent inflection and tones for the male characters.... But still, it was a great performance.
I received this audio in exchange for an honest review, and do think this is a great KU/whispersync deal.
If you're looking for a good time, but don't want the hassle of wondering what to wear, this is it!
A sci-fi romance at its most delightful. This book has a wonderful mix of characters with an array of personalities I adored, a sweet romance, action, adventure, and more.
Good start to a series. Entertaining, interesting, engaging and enjoyable.
It had all the elements that make a great story, plenty of action, suspense, intrigue, different alien species, betrayal, humor, romance and more.
The world building was creative and the characters were interesting.
Looking forward to the next installment of the series.
Ulrick has suddenly found his predestined "Match" something he never thought he would find. Now that he has found her he is not about to let her get away. Lily is caught between the feelings she can't ignore and her enemy.
While it was a really good story it did feel a bit disjointed at times and didn't always flow smoothly. Occasionally I had to rewind to see if I had missed something.
Anna Crowe did a good job with the narration. Her voice sounds so familiar. But, according to my narrator list this is the first time I have listened to her narrate a book. Nice voice. Good character voices. Clearly spoken with a smooth pace. Enjoyable.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher.
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. This is the first book I have listened to by L. H. Whitlock and the first book written by Lyndsay. She did an excellent job. You couldn't tell this was her first book. And she selfpublished it. What a great imagination. She did a great job with the flow of the book, creating and developing the characters and a very compelling story. I couldn't stop listening. Love it and look forward to many more creations. She chose a very good narrator for her work.
I can't believe this is the author's first book! Great characters, great story line and only a couple of grammar errors. I can't wait for the next one. I will definitely add LH Whitlock to my must read author's list. Congratulations on a well written exciting story, you have a promising career ahead of you!
The renegade army tries to rescue planets being destroyed by Golan the greedy power hungry scourge, people imprisoned have to work for him. The agile and action packed Lily is a pistol and always saving the day for her crew. She runs into her destined mate while being ambushed but escapes him multiple times.
The book starts kind of slow with too long explanations, but it continues in much better shape. One of the rare books where the plot exist, so do not omit it. Loved that the author added more characters later in the book. Very hilarious and building courtship between the general and Lily
So I wouldn't say this book was the smoothest, most engaging read, but it was action packed, had a decent romance, and it kept you guessing. I never really connected to the characters though, so that was disappointing. Otherwise, it was a fairly decent read.
This sci-fi alien adventure is action-packed. There are twists and turns with deception. The renegade warriors don't know who to trust. Anna Crowe did a great job with the voices.
this book was missing something. honestly, I cannot put my finger on it but it just...it was almost there. good concept. interesting characters. but it didn't quite push into the category that makes people count the days down to the next one.
If you're looking for a good time, but don't want the hassle of wondering what to wear, this is it!
A sci-fi romance at its most delightful - this book has a wonderful mix of characters with an array of personalities I adored, a steamy romance, action, adventure, and more.
Could not hold my interest. Only made it 1\4 through before I couldn't finish.. Sorry for the poor review but it was boring.
There cou!d have been a good story in there somewhere, but too wordy. ...!!!!!¡!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡!¡¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!¡ What idiots insist on a number of words before submitting.
DNF 18% Incredibly boring. Weak "strong" girl, didn't care about 2ndary people.
If you lead a super duper kickass team and one of your team members basically always talks smack and sidelines discussions to bring up the fact that you are a bad leader and he should have your job, you'd fire him, right? As would anyone with a brain. Putting supposed"strong" leaders in a situation of constant backtalk from a subordinate doesn't make for dramatic story telling. It makes a weak leader.
I was mildly entertained by this book. It's plot was interesting but somewhat disjointed. The romance was ok but poorly developed. I get fate but I just wasn't as immersed in their romance as I usually am with these types of stories. All and all it was a decent book.
