ONE YEAR LATER. With the world seemingly at peace, things seem pretty all right on 34RTH until a strange ship's arrival sends D4VE head-first into an existential crisis: an inconceivable blast from the past that threatens not only D4VE's dwindling relationship with 5COTTY, but all of robot-kind itself!

I feel like this was written over texts between 2 Millenials. To say I hated it is an understatement. The dialogue is beyond infuriating. It's just plain awful. There's not any plot to speak of. The only good thing about it is the art.

Received an advance copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

D4ve is back in a new adventure that of course involves trying to save the world again! I really enjoyed the first book in the series and I did enjoy this one but not nearly as much. The plot line just didn't flow well to me and some parts of it didn't make sense.

I also really hated Scotty. He wasn't so bad in the first one but in this one I just wanted to knock his head off.

The humour was still good except for the overuse of "butthorns". That felt a little forced. I still snickered to myself many times and I still enjoyed all of the little funny signs in the background. I hope that if they make a third one the story line is more cohesive and makes more sense.

'D4VE2' by Ryan Ferrier with art by Valentin Ramon takes place a year after the first volume of 'D4VE.' I think I liked the first volume better, but this one wasn't bad at all.

D4VE has saved the 34RTH, and now he's in charge of a defense force. He even has a huge statue that's been built in his honor. Despite that, D4VE is still D4VE. His son 5COTTY doesn't respect him. His ex-wife is dating another robot, and D4VE is still going through some kind of mid-life crisis. Now some mysterious looking spacejunk has shown up and threatens to overturn all the work that D4VE has done. Can he save the 34RTH? Can he get his son to respect him? Can he make everything right?

The satire is just great in the book. I'm not as much of a fan of the vulgarity, but the humor is spot on. I also love the art and all the visual jokes happening in the background. I really liked D4VE and I'm glad I got to read more.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, IDW Publishing, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Dammit, I love D4ve2!!! Ferrier, you're such an amazing butt horn!! D4ve2 is a wonderful continuation to the series and deepens the story line in an interesting way. Basically it continues where the first comic left off i.e. the robots trying to build everything anew. Then we have this weird spaceship and humans on it and D4ve needing to fix everything again by understanding the past. The plot is awesome, though a bit messy towards the end. Since the robots didn't disappear, does this means humans lost anyways? The whole hero-zero-hero thing was a bit unclear, which is basically the only thing not fully working. Instead the characters are perfect and god, I love 5cotty and how he ends up with his friend Br4d. Their relationship was so cute! The comic is rude and funny - basically perfect dialogue-wise. I was cracking up the whole time, dammit you Ferrier! I really need to buy these comics.

The art is awesome. The colors are rich and deep and fit the world seamlessly. Sometimes the panels are a bit stuffed, since there's quite a lot text, but it doesn't bother that much. The structure of everything is well formed and the robots have wonderful trajectories. The comic is just so creative and offensive that you cannot help loving it. I so recommend this to all those who can appreciate nasty humor and creative usage of swear words!

This review covers both volumes in this series)

I’ve said before that I’m not one to laugh out loud at things I read, but then I get my hands on graphic novels like D4VE and question whether it’s just that I have high standards for humor, or whether it’s just juvenile humor through robots that tickles my fancy.

Anyway, D4VE is a robot that was part of the massive robot rebellion on Earth. The bots wiped out all the humans, then explored the stars and wiped out all the aliens as well. They’ve now become as lazy and complacent as the humans they’ve replaced, so when existential problems arise (in either volume), it takes someone who is fed up like D4VE to solve it.

The humor here comes from the sex-crazed teenage robots, D4VE himself being in over his head so much, the unique l33tspeak way all the bots spell their names, and just the little hidden pieces throughout. The entire thing is kind of dumb, sure – the second volume in particular feels more like a “crap, this first series did pretty well, we should try to do more” run, but that’s not a knock against it in and of itself – but dumb is good and funny. In terms of just having some fun?

This absolutely did the trick. Definitely recommended.

It's an ok addition to the series as it does explore a bit more about the history as they do travel back to where humans were still around and before the robot uprising. But it just feels nothing really happens and while it does try to explore how free will can lead to people feeling more miserable it is just an ok continuation of the series.

I read the first series which was reasonable enough and at times even funny.

The second series was a bit all over the place, trying to develop the main character and adding in a very Planet of the Apes plot twist, which I thought had a lot of potential. But it all just fell a bit flat in the end. The humour which was interesting in the first series got old real quick and you never really understood motivations of characters. I found I had to push myself to get to the end of this one :(

It's one yeat after D4ve has saved the planet from an invading alien race. Now most of the robots on the planet have some upgraded software to help them fight back in the future, it also gives them ideas of their own along with it.

Another funny book in this series.

In a future Earth, humans are gone and there’s a robot society, though nothing at all like one would expect such a thing to turn out. Exposition shows this is a sequel; a year ago something happened and D4ve became a hero. This time a couple of humans show up to screw things up, and though he’s a supposed war hero he’s not up for the task of managing what could become a dangerous situation.
It’s like the author took all the worst traits in humans and none of the good ones to make his robots, an entire society of slackers and airheads who cuss even more than humans ever did. There’s a female with literal bazookas, as in missiles running through her and ending in giant breasts. The only sane person, and that’s in comparison to the rest, has such a huge crush on D4ve she’s pretty useless too.
Even worse is his teen son, who shows no respect for either his dad or his commanding officer, both being D4ve. (How do robots have kids? I’m afraid they’ll tell me.) Not that he’s worthy of much respect, hero or not, being the ultimate slacker, but in this world that hardly matters. At least he acknowledges the Terminator thing as the story takes him into the past, but toward the end the whole thing turns so existential I had to go to my bedroom and listen to 80s music. The entire story comes across as too cutesy, and the robot almost-names/numbers gave me a headache.
There’s some fun moments, especially in the way the robots rework human sayings, like, “You’re always gonna have that little folder in your CPU for those feelings” and “You’re gonna 404 urself” and the even better “Not to be a blue screen. . .” At one point the soldiers say, “Let’s get triggy with it.” My favorite part, being a photographer, is the guy at the closing press conference who has a telephoto lens of about a million mm.
The best way to put it is I really didn’t get it. . .

I have got to get volume 1. This is hilarious and Ryan Ferrier has a fantastic way with words. He's the kind of writer that makes you say I wish I'd thought of that.

Within just a couple pages, quotes or references to The Terminator, Back to the Future, and Bill O'Reilly!

And should I be worried that I completely relate to D4VE?

"I'm haunted by the ghost of all the dumb shit I've ever done."

Same, D4VE.

Ok - complete honesty: in the second panel of the comic - I am D4VE in traffic.

And I'm exactly as awkward as D4VE when he's talking to B3TH.

And I'm so gonna use "banana-pants mcfuck-buttons".

Sorry. Language. Don't talk like that, kids.

Thanks to NetGalley and IDW Comics for a copy in return for an honest review.

After saving Earth form alien invaders
D4ve finds himself
at loose ends in the post human robot society
of far future Earth
his wife has left him
he can't connect with his son who thinks
he is a complete tool
he can't even make a date
make a date with his sexy co worker
come out right
What's the savior of of civilization to do?
Especially when humans show up
Didn't we kill all of them?
D4ve doesn't know how all this will play out
but somehow he has to figure out a way to not screw it up
Brilliantly funny and beautifully drawn
it's a joy to be back in the world of D4ve

I found the concept interesting and the artwork was great, but there was something I just couldn’t get into; the story. It’s about robots living on earth as humans once did, acting like humans and having similar problems. D4VE2 was a hero in this society but why? It felt like I was reading a soap opera. Then two human female appeared in a capsule. And this piqued my interest some. We learn where they are from and why the humans were eliminated, but still wasn’t for me.

I enjoyed the first volume more honestly. I just didn't get interested in this like I did when I read the first volume. Also The digital copy I got the lettering seemed blurry? difficult at times to read, that may just have been my copy.

I received an advanced copy of this from NetGalley.com and the publisher

That was decent. Not as good as the first one. This one was just a bad family drama. Too many things trying to make sense together but never working. Nice ideas in it but overall just an okay story.

I read this book via NetGalley. I thank them for this book. #NetGalley

Storyline was interesting, but I didn't like it as much as D4VE. I hope there's another installment! Found myself loling so much.

I read the single issues.

More foul-mouthed robot fuckery as the eponymous hero of various genocides of fleshy life forms, now promoted to a general's rank, continues to balls up both his personal and professional life. Is it discriminatory to be an organic and laugh at this? Possibly, but they did wipe us out, so fuck 'em.
