Jen Taverson is watching the Perseid meteor shower on a hot August night when alien visitors arrive in the field before her in a strange, glowing formation.
Everyone she tells about it thinks she has had a hallucination, except Rob McCord, a former international photojournalist whose parents disappeared while looking for evidence of UFOs. The Hudson River Valley where they live has been a locus for sightings since the 1960s, especially the town of Pine Bush. They realize soon enough that the aliens are real.
The visitors have come seeking ancient markers in the earth for a portal that has been hidden for over a hundred million years and to prevent one of their own from reaching it.
My intent is for the stories and books I write to bring others a good read, a respite from the frenetic pace we sometimes live, and most of all, a path into other ways of seeing.
RIA QUINN MYSTERIES is my cozy mystery series, beginning with "Hidden In Stone"... An amateur archaeologist transplanted from London to upstate New York discovers more than prehistoric artifacts when she settles into the small town of Shokan Falls, having a murder occur on the very day she arrives. I am writing Book 4 now, still to be titled...

Life includes creative friends and a brilliant, talkative, and very green eclectus parrot named Harry. Home is in the evocative and hauntingly beautiful Hudson River Valley.
Out in a field watching a meteor shower, Jen Taverson hears a peculiar humming and witnesses a bizarre display of lights close to her on a dark road. The next day she is visited by a man claiming to come from another reality. Unnerved, Jen begins a determined search for answers and finds unexpected support from a photographer who has his own history with bizarre happenings in the area.
As the novel unfolds, it quickly becomes apparent that the author is quite familiar with Pine Bush, NY, and surrounding region as well as the strange UFO sightings for which the small town is famous. The writing is clear, clean, and well-crafted. The love story that develops alongside the otherworldly encounters is superbly done. I was especially intrigued by the glowing torus and dimensional portal described near the end of the book. If you enjoy well-thought-out speculations about ET contact, this story is an excellent read.
This book was well researched with lots of alien references. Even Whitley Streiber. Some moments I was confused with the dialogue, sometimes it seemed like a different character should be saying something and then it would continue like nothing was amiss. The stream of consciousness way of thinking for the main character made it so she went off on tangents and then would come back to the point again. I was kind of upset that I couldn’t send in corrections on the version I read, it was a free book, not too many issues with the copy though. It was a little different but in a good way. I enjoyed it, but I think some of the tangents just got to me and the way the main character kind of rambles.
If you are looking for an alien story that isn’t so stereotypical than you should definitely read this.
There is so much to love and like about this book. It is cleverly written with well-developed and believable characters. I love how the plot expands, weaving the past and present and evolves with likely answers to scepticism to the described events. This makes the story believable and grounded in a superb blend of facts and questions of, possibility. What I like the most is you don't have to be open-minded to read and understand. The story perfectly unfolds leaving you wondering and thinking about the message delivered by the visitors. Fantastic writing leaving me wanting to read more.
This was a quick, enjoyable read. However, I read the book a few days ago and nothing stands out in my mind about it right now. The way the relationship between the 2 main characters just jumped into being didn't make sense to me. Maybe it's small town living but how many people start chasing clues, jump around B&Bs, and allow someone they don't really know to take responsibility for their car in another town? Most folks who have a show in an art gallery would be there for the opening, not skip it for somebody they barely know. However with all that said, there's no romance in this story. It is hinted that it might develop in the future. The 'visitors' were different but not fleshed out very well so it's hard to tell what I think about them. I received a free copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only for a fair review.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this reading this book. It is well-written and researched. It didn't leave me with any strong positive or negative feelings. It doesn't stand out, but it is enjoyable.
