“This can’t be possible. How am I going to survive?”
The 21st-century world has been dropped back into the early 1800s. No one knew it was coming, no one was prepared, and still TEOTWAWKI happens.
By himself on vacation in northern Michigan, Bob Reiniger determines he must survive. Even with no such survival skills. He will make new and strange friends, and protect his property and life. Even though he's not ready for it, he will do battle with those who want to take what's his away.
Against all odds, Bob must survive the apocalypse. Even alone, in the middle of No Where.
Stranded No Where is the first book in e a lake's newest series - The No Where Apocalypse.
Read this book now, before the final Apocalypse arrives.
Another apocalypse tale. This was a good read, but not a great read. The characters & relationships were all fine. It's the source of the disaster that didn't make sense to me.
Also, the editing of this novel was, if not apocalypticly bad, still woefully inadequate.
Stranded Nowhere is the tale of Bob, a regular computer systems analyst from Chicago who is put on administrative leave by his boss for anger management issues and is told to take a two week vacation to chill out. He leaves his wife for the weekend, planning to be back by Sunday, and drives to his father's remote hunting cabin in the Upper Peninsula of the Michigan wilderness. He arrives, proceeds to drink his sorrows into oblivion, wakes up the next day and the power is out. Only vehicles made in the era before electronics function. Bob is stranded. And thus the tale truly begins, though from the book's opener (22 years in the future where Bob is killing a man trying to steal both his firewood and his life) we know Bob has been stranded for quite some time - and is a very different, much harder man. This opening into the series is wonderful because it shows Bob's transformation from lily-handed white collar worker to extreme outdoor survivalist. This novel has all the action and suspense elements of a dystopic thriller; murder, death by wolves and gangs of savage lunatics that must be fought, defeated and outsmarted. Bob doesn't think he's smart. But he is. And so are his fantastic entourage of characters, people who have lived and hunted their whole lives in Michigan's UP. There are no monsters here but ourselves. No unknown infection turning people into flesh eating zombies. It's just Bob and his friends against a world that has suddenly become most brutal in the absence of that singular current that apparently unites us all - electricity. A most enjoyable read for those seeking the more human, hard-science sort of dystopian page turner.
This book was riveting, and told of everyday folk just trying to figure out how to survive a cataclysmic event. No highly trained ex soldiers of daring, no unrealistic situations or successes from an average small group of everyday folk just trying to survive as best they can. That is what I really loved about this storyline. It could be anyone caught on such a situation and mistakes are made that all have consequence, just as in real life.
The characters are very well developed; from the moodiness of a teenage girl to the fears and trials of living hand to mouth nearly every day. So realistic ! Food is always hard to find, there are no grocery stores or convenience stores, everything must be made from scratch and animals must be hunted all in order to survive. A very well thought out and realistic story line that spans, so far, 3 books. Each book could stand alone but reading all 3 is fantastic and there are no dull moments or past that drag.
I'm looking forward to reading all the books in this series, unfortunately there are only 3 books so far with a 4th due in Nov 2016. I hate waiting when I know that book will also be riveting, compelling, and entertaining. It as if the author takes the reader back to 'No Where' with each new book and new set of challenges. I recommend this series to everyone interested in survival, interested in a great enjoyable read.
I very much enjoyed the basic plot and background of the story in Stranded No Where. The protagonist is just a regular guy finding himself stranded as the apocalyptic EMP hits the planet. He's literally in the middle of the woods. I appreciated that he wasn't a survivalist or prepper or athlete or former military or law enforcement, as is usual with these post-apocalyptic novels. However, there were too many typos, misspellings, and continuity and suspension of disbelief issues fir me to make it all the way through. It's the first in a series, so maybe writer E. A. Lake gets better with experience.
he had been working so hard he lost it at work. they let him go on vacation for 2 weeks. his wife couldnt get off work so he went to the family cabin/shed
he got drunk. first the elect went out, the water wouldnt come out of the well. the car wouldnt start. the cell phone got nothing, not even the date
he walked miles to the old man next door. everything of his is out too. he said the whole world is out, thinking solar flares
he goes home , a woman comes to the door asking for water and food he lets her come inside and gets hit over the head. he was robbed
he went to the neighbor on the other side, couldnt get the pump primed. she explained how to do that by pouring water in it. she also asked him to go to another neighbors for her cig's
he went and that man had no idea everything was out. shared his frozen venison, and took iou's for the cig's and a mountain bike. he has a lot of junk and old cars at his place
a man came in to kill him, he shot and killed him
he became friends with his neighbors, they helped him live through the winter
a woman, her husband and 2 children showed up nearby. he met them when the husband tried to steal the deer he finally shot. so he shared it with them and they became friends. the dad died and the mom and 2 kids moved in with the woman neighbor
but she had stolen drugs (she was a nurse) before she left and her daughter had helped kill a bad man. the posse from town found them. the man offered a barter of the drugs for canning lids and salt in exchange for their lives and ammo. they let him bring the ammo and the teen girl to town to get his salt. he found the people in charge were crazy and terrible people. they made it back home but they knew it wasnt over
the book ended and i cant wait to read the next in the series

Stranded Nowhere is a slow burn post-EMP survival story that sets itself apart from the genre by focusing on Bob, a man who finds himself in serious trouble when the power goes out. He's not a survivalist, homesteader or prepper of any kind and mostly revolves around his struggle to survive, not the kind of conflict and violence focus common in the genre. It's well written, with a very flawed and believable protagonist in Bob, interesting secondary characters, good dialogue and perspective, and good descriptions of people, events and environment. The trouble seems likely to get more serious in the next book in the series. 4/5 stars. Recommended for readers who enjoy survival stories where the vast majority of the book is focused on survival, not violence!
Lake has a unique writing style: He writes like people speak - very rare, and that can be interpreted as abrupt or (as I think) refreshingly to the point. The set up is quick. No Rambo character. Chapters are fairly short, no needless sex or gratuitous violence. Most of these EOTWAWKI stories I read I rarely finish because either the plot is so far fetched the writer can't support it in the story, the characters are simply unbelievable, or it is simply badly written. Lake avoids all of that. Finished it in three days. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Well done!
I don’t feel as if I know anything about any of these characters. There is no backstory on anyone. Not even the main character Bob. This whole book is painted with a very broad brush. Not enough details to make me feel anything about anyone in the book. I don’t even know what caused the event upon which the whole book is predicated. Not even remotely interested in book 2.
Bob had a bad week at work, his wife talked him into going to his Dad,s hunting cabin in the middle of no where, in Upper Michigan. The cabin had what he needed for a few days of down time. On the 2nd. day the power went out, his car wont start and his cell phone is dead. Bob has no survival skills, How will he live ?
I liked this book. The premise is believable and the characters are relatable. The challenges the main character faces are very diverse from nature to people and the slow realization that things are changed forever felt so realistic. I think if you enjoy the What If scenarios for end of life as we know if you'd enjoy this book.
This book was a good read. It was an event that is plausible, not a far fetched story. It keeps you interested to see what will happen next. I look forward to reading the rest of the story. This is plain ole good story stuff. Doesn’t need sex or drugs, blood and guts. Plus, no zombies.
Not the best I've ever read, but not the worst either. I'd have liked more details on the actual survival details. Without those details I never really picked up a sense of urgency or desperation. Fine book if you don't have anything else in your reading list.
As usual with this author, you'll get to know and like the characters like your own friends. Good story line and it adds up to an addictively entertaining read..,
At first I was annoyed with Bob as he dive headfirst into self pity but soon came to realize that that is how most people would react in a similar situation. Luckily for Bob he has found some good friends to teach him what he will need to know.
I really enjoyed this book! It was interesting and exciting. The only thing I have to say you got wrong though, is that lice actually like a clean healthy scalp and hair. But, that’s my only issue lol. It’s a good read!!
Quite interesting, especially with the upper peninsula of Michigan being the setting. There were a few typos, which distracted me from the story at times. Overall, however, the story was interesting and the main characters were very well developed.
This is a great book! Very believable with interesting characters. I love the way it’s written and also that I’m not hyperventilating every pother page! I think everyone would like it .
Good, laid back writing style. I like how the main character is just a regular Joe, not a special forces bad ass. Realistic gun fights where most shots miss. Simple story line is good. Great characters.
Good but not great. I probably won’t read the rest of this series because this is a dispute literally over stolen meds from a nursing home lol go raid another nursing home & leave these people alone.
Delightful reading. Refreshingly different end times. Characters have life so I care what happens. So many books of this genre have same calamitous events, endless descriptions of firearms, etc I often never read past page 50.
This book starts out slow and wordy. But as you get farther into the story it gets more interesting. The slow beginning is setting up the story. At the end,I wanted to go to book 2, to see what happens next.
The world has lost all power, all communications. It brings out the best in some people, the worst in others. Do we show what we really are in times of stress?
