Laura J. Davis is a former singer/songwriter who took to writing full-time after emergency surgery caused the loss of her singing voice. Her singing career had lasted for 30 years. Her first book, "Come to Me," won a Reader's Favorite Award. In 2013, her bible study "Learning from the Master, Living a Surrendered Life," was featured in Book Fun Magazine as the non-fiction book of the month first place winner. She has had stories featured in Chicken Soup for the Soul Married Life and Chicken Soup for the Soul the Dating Game. Her last book, "He Who Has an Ear," is a look at who the seven churches of Revelation are today. Laura is currently featured in the Author's Network book, "50 Great Authors You Should be Reading."
Her current book is Unlocking the Truth of Daniel and is a Bible Study which takes a hard look at prophecies in Daniel that many believe are pointing to end-time events, but are actually prophecies that have been fulfilled.
When Laura is not writing she is teaching bible studies and reviewing books. She can be contacted through her website at www.laurajdavis.com
Laura Davis’ study of Daniel is perfectly balanced and well thought out. She balances both the historical and prophetical elements, promoting you to think for yourself while still explaining, and developing life applications while exploring theology.
Students of the Bible will greatly appreciate her approach. Right from the start she clarifies her style as she instructs the readers to: “Remember, I am just a guide. Don’t take my word for it; investigate for yourself.” She consistently promotes this throughout the study, which I appreciated. A great example of this is in the ninth chapter, “The Ten Horns,” where she thoroughly presents three competing theories on Daniel 7:8-12 and leaves us to make our own decision. An important theme of this study is that before providing commentary, each chapter begins with Davis sending us to the scripture first. Only after we read it for ourselves does she begin to provide analysis.
Though the reader is encouraged to think for themselves, this study also provides deep insights that Davis ties together extremely well. One example is in the second chapter where she investigates the use of the word “awesome” in Daniel 2:31 and compares our perspective of that word to its root meaning of “fearsome.” By itself the comparison is interesting, however, later in the study when comparing dreams in the second chapter to those in later chapters that subtle difference makes some remarkable comparisons come to the forefront. I appreciate the extensive research Davis did while organizing this book which allowed her to connect many passages spanning from Daniel, to the Psalms, to Revelation in order to clarify key thoughts.
Unlocking the Truth of Daniel will be appreciated by a wide range of people and is valuable as a self-study of Daniel, as a group-study, and as a reference.
In Unlocking the Truth of Daniel, Laura J. Davis methodically and thoroughly analyzes the dreams, visions, and complex prophecies of the Old Testament’s Book of Daniel. She traces its relationship to history through her comprehensive year-long studies of a variety of non-Biblical sources. Davis explores each verse from the KJV (literal) and NIV (meaning-based) translations of the Bible. When the literal and meaning-based translations differ, she draws upon the meaning of the original Hebrew/Aramaic word, so readers can determine the appropriate way to derive meaning in the passage.
The book starts with the story of Nebuchadnezzar, whose frustration in interpreting his dream of a statue leads him to the prophet Daniel. Daniel interprets the dream as it portends the fall of Nebuchadnezzar’s powerful Babylonian Empire, to be followed by the fall of the Medo-Persian Empire, the Greek Empire, and the Roman Empire. Davis draws parallels between the books of Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel, and Psalms and past history and recent times to offer theories on the antichrist and what to expect during the end times and when such times may occur.
To anyone who wants to learn more about the complex prophecies and life of Daniel, Davis’ devotional is a must-read. To anyone curious about the way that current institutions and societies may have been foretold thousands of years ago, this devotional is a must-read. To anyone desiring historical support of the prophecies in the Bible, look no further than Davis’ Unlocking the Truth of Daniel. I highly recommend you invest your time in this well-developed and articulated devotional. It can be read individually or within groups in inductive Bible studies.
Unlocking the Truth of Daniel, by Laura Davis, is the first installment in the Digging Deeper series. It is a rich inductive Bible study, great for groups and individuals. The studies follow this format: a Group Discussion Question, Assigned Readings, Inductive Questions (with relevant historical and Biblical data sprinkled throughout), and a Life Application point. Each study is very clear and easily followed. The questions help the reader engage and wrestle with the text.
The book of Daniel is especially relevant for this hour in history, because it deals with the persecution of the godly and future prophecies. Consider using the keys provided in Unlocking the Truth of Daniel to gain greater understanding and clarity. If this book provides any indication about the future of the series, we have something special to look forward to! May God richly bless your study!

The old testament Book of Daniel contains rich, symbolic imagery and disturbing prophecies. It holds secrets to the past, present, and maybe even the future. Using the Book of Daniel as Book One in her, "Digging Deeper" series, Laura J. Davis helps readers unlock the truth behind the narrative. Her book, "Unlocking The Truth Of Daniel" is designed to decipher the hidden meaning in Scripture by systematically examining it verse by verse. She approaches the study contextually, often comparing words to their original Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic meaning. Our modern day words can often convey something entirely different (which is why literal translations of the Bible are not advisable). Davis also facilitates learning through the use of charts, historical details and thoughtful questions. Her book is engaging, fascinating and clear. I think her method for studying the Bible will help you "dig deeper" to search out the truths within other books of the Bible too.
I really enjoyed the study of Daniel! This is the first book in the series Digging Deeper. Laura Davis has done a lot of study of the scriptures and dug even deeper in getting the history of it also. Lot of great points and scriptures to back up her thinking. This is a very thorough study and does take time. I'm still working through it and enjoying what I am learning. I love the scriptures and the questions following each chapter. I think it would make a great group study book. I'm sure not everyone agrees with everything but search it out and see. The study is very in dept. The book shows Laura Davis did a lot of digging. I was given this book to review and to leave my own honest opinion.
An in depth study of the book of Daniel. The author does a remarkable job of putting together this book. It can be done individually or with a group. However, I feel that this would be exceptional for a group because there is so much to discuss and scripture to dissect.
Regardless, of how you interpret what is presented, this certainly is a thought-provoking study guide. It's quite detailed and gets you digging deeper into God's word.
I was given a copy of this book, from the Author, in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to give a review of my impressions of this book. I have read the intro, lightly perused the devotions, and completed the first one.
I really like what I see. However, this is not a book designed to be read in one session. If I did one section each day, it would still take several weeks to complete. If I do one or two a week, giving myself time to absorb the material and seek guidance in prayer, it will take several months. So, when I complete the book, I will come back and update my final reactions.
Very in depth study! The book broke down the bible reading of the book of Daniel by asking you to identify who, what, when, how and why. But guiding your focus, it helps with understanding the text you are reading. It was a very clever way to compose the study. While the author relied mostly on the reader actually reading the bible chapters assigned, she was able to help clarify points by asking specific questions at precise times throughout the study. I really enjoyed the book (and the study too!)
