Ashley is returning home in Crystal Springs after 13 years of being away. Her brother, Ethan, co-owns a Dude Ranch and asked her to work for him. He needed a Public Relations Director and she was perfect for the job. However, when she arrives she is immediately thinking she made the wrong decision when she is greeted by Hank Bradley. He is not only the other co-owner but also the person she grew up with and crushed on, and the partial reason she left. When she finds out that her room in the house shares a bathroom with him is nearly her undoing. She needs to find a hotel and fast and starts telling herself that everyday, for the first week or so. However, being around her family that she missed to so much, is helping her want to be there more and more.
Hank is still devastating to her, but he's grown into a man and it takes everything Ashley has to remain unaffected by him, plus she knows when the truth about her comes out, he may never forgive her.
Hank grew up with a rough childhood, but Ethan's friendship and his family was what saved him. His love for horses and the Dude ranch was a natural choice for him after he finished Veterinary School. Ashley would follow them around as a child but after a brief encounter during her Senior Year in high school she left. He forbid himself after that to never touch her again, and now that she was back his feelings for her has him on edge. So much so that he cant sleep in the adjoining room and camps out for a few days. Although he tries to ignore her, he can't help but be drawn to the woman she has grown into, but the fear of her brother finding out has him torn... He could do what would be considered the "right thing" but also being with her feels right and natural....but his ghosts may be too much to handle for her.
Their chemistry is apparent to everyone, even though they deny it to themselves. Hank is definitely swoon worthy and Ashley keeps telling herself "just friends" terrified her secret will come out and the backlash she'll face.
I have never read and of the other books in this series, so at first the characters seemed under developed. But the author was still able to pull me into the story. Her descriptions of the ranch and land I could picture. The banter between the characters seemed natural and believable. I may still read the previous books because I enjoyed this one so much. My only reason for not 5 stars is the book moved fast and for me, it felt rushed because it was the final book... which is, unfortunately, not uncommon with some authors. That being said I did enjoy this author's writing style and would recommend this book (after reading the other in the series).
