Meridian Massage: Opening Pathways to Vitality

Rate this book
The meridian pathways of the human body were mapped out by gifted healers in China thousands of years ago. Working with the invisible energy (Qi) that flows through these pathways, they were able to heal illness. Perhaps more importantly, they were able to support vitality in ways that prevent illness and encourage wellness. Vitality is an expression of energy. Meridian Massage is a hands-on modern application of this ancient wisdom to balance mind, body, and spirit for health and happiness. Knowing how to work directly with energy opens a powerful dimension for massage therapists and bodyworkers to access through their work. An organized and practical integration of modern energy work and ancient Chinese medicine, Meridian Massage can complement any form of hands-on healing.

Cindy is an amazing healer and educator. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but must state that listening to it in audio form is NOT the best way to absorb the material. It is complex and relies greatly on knowing the physical locations of the many acupressure / acupuncture points on the body. So having a diagram in front of you to visually reinforce what is being taught is a must. I will be buying the physical book for this purpose, but with that in hand, I do intend to continue to use the audio book to reinforce the concepts and information.

Cindy does a wonderful job of explaining both the big picture concepts as well as the hands-on how-to of this complex subject. It's clear that it will take a great deal of time, practice, and experience to truly master (or even become competent) at this practice, but Cindy's book & other media are my preferred means of learning.

I did find the reader's style to be slightly distracting at times due to her stilted (and occasionally incorrect) pronunciation. She is clearly trained in elocution, but, while clear, the style can be distracting to some. It wasn't a major issue for me though, and many are likely to either not be distracted by it at all or find it easier to ignore.

For me, the most difficult aspect of the 5 Elements and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in general is getting used to the use of Western, physical organ names to refer to an entirely different system and philosophy within the human being. This includes the physical organ, but also much more. The same is true for the use of other English terms such as "wind". On the other hand, the extensive use of Chinese words, terms, & names was also somewhat of a hindrance. Obviously, those of us who don't speak the language and / or are encountering these terms for the first time, are faced with the additional challenge of learning all new words to go along with all the new concepts. So it's kind of a no-win thing. However, this is certainly no fault of Cindy's. She has done an excellent job of bridging the two languages in this complex subject. The bottom line is that there's a LOT of learning to do to!

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful book! I took her online Meridian Massage course before reading this, and it made a lot more sense to me. Cindy has a knack for explaining this complex subject in easy-to-understand terms. It is a great reference book with visuals, organized sensibly.

This book is great for individual study or with a group. I will have to re-read some portions over time, I am sure.
I especially liked the last section "Hands-On Meridan Massage". The is a very practical section.
