Pastry chef and café owner Jilly Cole is determined to live by her own rules, answering to no one, least of all a man. She watched her mother fade away, paralyzed by the control of a rich powerful husband, Jilly’s stepfather, and vowed to never be in that position. Head down, she works hard to make her career dreams a reality, but it’s not quite going as she planned.
Growing up, Colin Rutherford IV had everything handed to him on a diamond-encrusted platinum platter. As heir to the Rutherford empire, he’s expected to follow in his father’s footsteps, regardless of what he actually wants. He has dreams of his own, and none of them include the Rutherford name.
When Colin meets Jilly, he’s blown away, and not just by her baking skills. After a rocky start full of judgment and misunderstanding, they find they have a lot more in common than they first thought. They’re both people who refuse to settle in life. But when Colin’s actions start to feel a little too familiar, Jilly bolts. She won’t disrespect her mother’s memory by getting tangled up with the wrong kind of man.

When I was offered a copy of this book for review, I jumped all over it because I love this authors writing. The fact that I knew nothing about it at all…… hah didn’t matter one bit.
What happened when I read it you ask? Well I absolutely loved it. This book has found an immediate place in my comfort read shelf. As soon as I put it down I wanted to start it all over again. I loved the characters and the sweet storyline. Throw in the fact that it’s a novella aka a quick read and this is why it’s now on my comfort read shelf to be pulled out when I’m in a personal or reading funk.
“The last person she expected to fall for was the one to fill her soul with more peace then she’d ever imagined.”
The title of the book couldn’t be more perfect for this pair as they both Refuse to Settle for less than what makes them happy in life. Be it running a successful bakery or a custom build mechanic workshop, Colin and Jilly won’t settle and that makes them perfect for each other.
“This woman was setting up shop in his heart and he had no desire to rid it of her.”
From their snarky first meeting to their memorable first date, Colin and Jilly slowly start to fall and fall hard. But when what was meant to be a well-intentioned idea causes a fight, will it possibly be the end to their happiness or will Jilly and Colin refuse to settle for anything less than each other?
Once again this author has shown again why I love her books.
