How did Nolan end up Exiled to the 14th?

Exiled leads seamlessly into the novel Destroyer, detailing how Nolan first encountered agents of the Void Wraith.

The Void Wraith are not yet ready to begin their war against the Milky Way. Experiments must be conducted. DNA mapped. Slaves created. They move cautiously, their agents infiltrating the governments of every major race. But every invasion leaves clues, clues that one OFI officer has stumbled across.

Stations are disappearing. Whole populations, gone seemingly overnight. Command Nolan convinces the Office of Fleet Intelligence to dispatch him to investigate. He discovers something far more sinister and far reaching than he imagined. Along the way he'll sacrifice his career, his relationship, and his faith in the Unified Earth Fleet.

By day I am an iPhone developer architecting the app used to scope Stephen Colbert’s ear. By night I am Batman. Ok maybe not. One can dream though, right?

I’ve been writing since I was six years old and started inflicting my work on others at age 18. By age 24 people stopped running away when I approached them with a new story and shortly thereafter I published my first one in the Rifter.

Wait you’re still reading?

Ok, the facts I’m supposed to list in a bio. As of this writing I’m 38 years old and live just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the beautiful town of Mill Valley. If you’re unsure how to find it just follow the smell of self-entitlement. Once you see the teens driving Teslas you’ll know you’re in the right place.

I live in a tiny studio that I can cross in (literally) five steps and don’t own an oven. But you know what? It’s worth it. I love developing iPhone apps and if you want to work in San Francisco you accept that rent for a tiny place costs more than most people’s mortgage.

If you and about 2 million other people start buying my books I promise to move out of Marin to a house in the redwoods up in Guerneville. No pressure. Wait that’s a lie. Pressure.

This felt like part of the first book that was sacrificed to the editing floor. I read it after reading book 2, and it did fill in bits of "why" things happened. Not a requirement for understanding the series, but I'm glad I read it.

Adequate SciFi Short Story

Book 0 (are you kidding me?) is allegedly the prequel of "The Void Wraith Trilogy." The story is at best just adequate, on the juvenile side to be blunt. The writing needs improving and editing is barely competent. Does ANY (caps intentional) eBook author know a real life editor or someone with average reading comprehension and intelligence that can proofread and edit? Apparently not, as this eBook has no right margin justification, page numbering is absent and repetitive phrases are numerous. The reader gets the sense that this "prequel," was either a story idea recycled from the "circular file" or left over passages from Book 1, and reformatted into a hastily conceived, unprofessional, commercial product.

A quick little read that sets up Mr. Fox's VOID WRATH trilogy, giving just a hint of some of the behind the scenes subterfuge that explains certain character's behaviors that have repercussions down the road for what could be the return of an ancient galactic enemy.

When you read the first book, you read about how Nolan was exiled to the 14th for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with an Admirals daughter.
This is the story of what actually happened. This is a must read for anyone that is a fan of the series.
I don’t know if I would say this is a great starting place, I still think that although it is book 0 in the series, which it is best read after book 1 so that you have a good feel for the characters and the dynamic of the situation and events.
This is a really great story, explaining what Nolan was doing before his exile, how he meet Catherine, and what actually happened to lead to his exile.
I am not going to give spoilers away, this should be read and enjoyed.
The story starts with Nolan investigating disappearances off of Human Stations, the entire compliment of people just vanish without a trace, and Nolan starts to work out that something nefarious is happening, reporting it to Admiral Mendez, who is initially very happy for him to follow up on it.
As with the other books, the characters are exceptional, and this is a chance to give more depth to both Nolan and Catherine for the Author, and for us as readers to get to learn about these characters. There are also some new additions in this book that are not in ‘Destroyer’, but do turn up in later books.
It should be noted that this is a short story only, meant to be a small filler to give us this background information.
There are several other interesting bits of information in this book that provide background to the overall story as well, they tie bits of the plot from Destroyer to Exiled and to the rest of the trilogy.
This is a really fantastic addition to the series and adds a lot to the rest of the trilogy. It is a must read for fans of the series.

Exiled by Chris Fox was very short. I gave this book 2 stars because of how much the original three books of the series grew on me. If I had started with this as I debated I would have given it 1 star and most likely not have continued with the rest of the series. Upon finishing this book I do not see the point in why it was written. I thought the author gave plenty of background in the original series to satisfy his readers.

I feel this book was not thought out properly. Chris Fox was attempting to give more background to the original series by explaining the relationship between Command Nolan and Katherine and how exactly Nolan ended up exiled to the 14th. In doing this though, the author introduced so many more questions in my opinion. I believe there was a true entire novel here that could have greatly increased the series as a whole.

Exiled is a novella which serves as a prequel to the Void Raith trilogy. It's an enjoyable little adventure, which sets up the events of Destroyer, giving a bit more background on some of the characters and their relationships, particularly Nolan, Katheryn, Admiral Mendez and Delta. Chris Fox's writing is very pacey and easy to read, and he doesn't take himself too seriously. This is a good option if you want to dip your toe into Fox's sci-fi universe without committing to a longer novel, particularly since he gives it away for free if you sign up to his mailing list (which is worthwhile, since he's an engaging guy with an excellent Youtube channel full of writing tips, if you're interested in that sort of thing).

Cool, Intriguing Start To The Trilogy

This is a well-written, fast-paced story. The prequel opens many questions to entice the reader to invest in the trilogy.

I didn't exactly like the way in which Kathryn was portrayed at first. However, she has grown on me.

Now to dive into the first Void Wraith trilogy.

It is a very interesting and necessary beginning to a Military Space SCI-Fi Series, I made the mistake of starting the Box Set and was slightly lost, I then remembered that I had this box and read it. When I was finished I had a much better understanding of some of the main characters. This book helped me have a better take on the whole series.

The story was pretty good, but it ran into the failings that befall many prequels: lack of world and lore details. The story was there, though, and I enjoyed it. But I would have enjoyed it more with a little more worldbuilding thrown in instead of just the facts.

I am undecided as to whether or not I will continue the series. I was intrigued, but not completely hooked.

This short story was alright, but it didn't have a true life of it's own. It only worked as a prologue to a longer story. The characters didn't have enough depth and the action was a total cliffhanger. Just a tease rather than a full snack itself.

This story was a fun read and is a good introduction to the series. The book had errors throughout but was a fun read. The overall plot and characters where well done and grew throughout the story. I look forward to book 1.

Going back to this series before continuing another of his recent series and you can plainly see how much he has grown as a writer.

It is good to get more context as to why certain things are the way they are (Mendez and Kathryn) so I do love the side stories.

Such a confusing plot. I understand that it's a preview but I couldn't get past the erratic nature of the plot and the grammar errors.

Summary:

As a prequel to a new series, this story held its own while introducing the audience to characters who take on a life of their won. The book begins as Doctor Reid with the marines stationed under him over powering a space station for no specific reason. It isn't until later that the reader gets a strong impression that all it not as it seems. Next, Nolan enters the scene and is sent to try and figure out what is happening a the space outposts. With the help of Admiral Mendez, Nolan and Captain Kathryn Mendez are ordered to uncover what is happening. Things quickly spiral out of control forcing them to fight for their lives against an unknown adversary.

This was a great introduction of what looks to be an incredible series and I for one can't wait to find out what happens next. The sci-fi aspects of the story allow the reader to experience the possibilities of interstellar travel seeing worlds and people vastly different then ours.

This book is the prequel to the great Military Science Fiction novel Destroyer—which I really enjoyed. Although it is short this story has a lot to love about it. Awesome Science Fiction action and adventure. I read the novel Destroyer that comes right after this book and it was really cool getting to find out first hand events that were only hinted at in that book. Also it was cool to see just how all of the crazy events got put into place for the next book Destroyer.

One of my favorite things in this book was when I went from hating a character who is a villain in Destroyer to feeling really bad for them in this story because I saw just why they were doing what they did. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't go into any details but it was a powerful experience going from hating a character to feeling sorry for them and getting a broader view of them as a character.

Besides that there was a really cool firefight in the story. It came off as very authentic and I felt like I was there with the characters making a stand against the enemy that would likely end with all the good guys dying. The author Chris Fox did a great job building the tension in this book, especially for such a short story. It was so cool seeing the two main characters put clues together to discover the bad guy's plans and try to track where they were headed next.

I really enjoyed this little Sci-Fi adventure. You'll definitely want to read it if you loved it's sequel Destroyer like I did.

My Book Review Number 124:

This review is on EXILED by C.T. (Chris) Fox. This is a Void Wraith Prequel Story and the second story I have read by this writer. It is a Novella.

This short story goes into more detail on the reasons why Commander Nolan is sent to the combat ship Johnston to serve under Captain Dryker. The story begins with a Marine squad on another spaceship docking at a mining station in space. The Marines are under orders to abduct all the miners on the station and take them away for unknown purposes.

Nolan is working at the Office of Fleet Intelligence and tasked with finding out why humans are disappearing in space. He is sent on a mission to try and stop one of these space high jacking events.

What happens back at OFI causes certain Admirals to become aware of Nolan’s activities and they use their power to disgrace Nolan and force him to leave OFI to serve as an XO on a combat ship under Captain Dryker. The reasons why are never explained to Nolan and he feels betrayed and wrongly accused of disobeying orders.

I give this Novella Four Stars because the story is well written and explains why Nolan is sent away from the OFI. The chapters in this Novella could easily have been included in Book 1, but for some reason the author decided to keep it separate from the main story.

Keep reading good science fiction and let me know when you find an interesting novel or author.

As a part of signing up for the Chris Fox mailing list, I received this prequel for free.

This is an enjoyable prelude into the world of Chris Fox's Void Wraith series. I do not know yet what role the main characters will play, but this was done well with a self contained story and a segue into a bigger picture of things to come. I can well imagine what the world could hold, and I have added the future full length novels to my to read list.

Having been given a task, a Space Marine is on a case to discover what has happened to the missing personnel from a space station and why. Along the way, he is teamed up with someone from his past, and they most both set aside their differences and work together to discover the truth behind the lies that they have been given.

Chris Fox is nothing if not an inspiration; in his non-fiction as well as fictional work, and I look forward to reading and reviewing more from Chris in the future.

An outstanding series

I am a SLOW reader but this "Void Wraith" trilogy is so fast paced and was so much fun to read I finished all three books plus the novella in a little under 24 hours. Is isn't about how fast I read. It's about how readable "Void Wraith" is. It's an excellent series and anyone who enjoys reading sci-fi will love this story. Actually, I wouldn't mind another in this excellent set of books!

Prequel to the Void Wraith trilogy

This is the beginning of the Void Wraith trilogy, but not really a stand alone book. Very short (about 50 pages), it really just fills in some of the background left vague in the first volume of the trilogy (Destroyer). It won't make much sense if read alone, and works much better if it is read after reading Destroyer. The you will know the characters, and understand what Fox is talking about in this prequel.

Interesting book

I think that this book world have been better to have started the series with. It gives the readers the main starting point of the story. But it is the author decision. I will look forward to book three.

Good Backstory Read

Having read the first two books of the trilogy, it was nice to learn Nolan's backstory. A fun quick read, can't wait for book 3.
