I would rate this book 3.5 stars.

Despite not being a historian himself, Visvardis produced a short history of Greece which helped me get acquainted with a number of surprising historical facts in combination with a healthy dose of humor.

However the book lacked certain historical details when it comes to crucial periods in Greek history.

On the whole an enjoyable account of Greek history, perfectly suitable for a day-off reading.

A starter attempt in the long history of Greek people

Even though there are disconnects in the flow of timeline, it’s a good attempt to present the history in an easy to read format. I found the author quite independent and non biased. How Ionian islands changed hands from the Venetian government to British is not clear.

I was looking for a brief hictory of Greece, and that's exactly what I got... according to the title. The opening chapters about ancient greede were good, and the last chapter covering contemporary Greece in brief, was also worthwhile. But basically the rest of the book pretty much said Greece had no history from ancient times till the end of Byzantine times. It seeems like nothing worth mentioned happened speciically in territoriess that could be called Geece. It was like the midel 2/3 of the book was a istory of Byzantium. Yeah, but meanwhile what happened IN GREECE? Perhaps I will never know. At any rate, this book did give me much of the info i was interested in , and it is a fairly entertaining read (incluing a bit of authorial humor). I'm glad I read it.
