A bullet shot rings out on the night of the Super Moon and a promising college student is killed. Was it an accident, or did her research into false claims by a bio-tech, agricultural company garner her too much attention? The wrong kind of attention. Mary and Bradley have to find out or Ruth McCredie will never rest.
Terri Reid is the author of the Mary O’Reilly Paranormal Mysteries. An indie author, Reid uploaded her first book “Loose Ends” in August 2010. By the end of 2012, “Loose Ends” had sold over 82,000 copies and, as of the writing of this bio, was the number one bestselling book in Amazon’s ranking of Ghost Stories in the Book/Literature & Fiction/Genre Fiction/Horror/Ghosts section and the number two in the same area in the Kindle eBooks section. She has eight other books in the Mary O’Reilly Series and has enjoyed Top Rated and Hot New Release status for many of them in the Women Sleuths category through Amazon US. Abbiati’s book “The NORTAV Method for Writers—The Secrets to Constructing Prose Like the Pros.” She has also had the distinct privilege of guest blogging for Joe Konrath. Reid is from Northwest Illinois, near the town of Freeport, the home of her fictional characters. Her background is in marketing and public relations. She is married, the mother of seven children, and the grandmother of twenty-three. She has her grandchildren convinced that she talks to fairies and animals - and they talk back.
Wow there was so much to love about this book. I am a huge Mary O'Reilly fan her ghost busting skills are amazing, her investigative skills are awesome, she is an amazing Mum, Wife and friend Mary is just awesome.
Mary heads out to a cemetery to help ghosts pass on, you know ones who have been stuck for many years because they got a bit confused, what Mary doesn't expect to fin is a dead body that has not been dead all that long, especially when it's a young girl and it looks like murder, good thing Mary married the local police chief...lol Bradley always wonders how his amazing wife does it, if it's not ghosts it's dead bodies she is such a trouble magnet but he still loves her. Mary is 7 months pregnant and looking for a murderer, organising thanksgiving dinner for everyone and a surprise party for Clarissa so keeping busy is not a problem.
I loved this story a lot especially everyone coming for thanks giving dinner that made the ending of the books so good, that even though this mystery was mainly solved by Mary and Bradley with Stanley everyone else was there for the end celebration.
Mary O'Reilly is planning not only a Thanksgiving feast for her family and friends but also a surprise party for Clarissa...her first birthday with Bradley and Mary. But first, she is hoping to cross over some more souls from the Gund Cemetery, victims of a cholera epidemic in the late 1800s. But when she gets to the cemetery, one of the lost souls points out a new addition to their group, a young girl murdered and left in the nearby cornfield. Mary soon becomes involved in learning who murdered Ruth and why. I enjoy reading this series, filled with laughter, tears and love from Mary's friends and family. The mysteries are always intriguing and I enjoy the interaction between Mary and the ghosts she is helping. And I really loved the addition of rat ghosts to this story! I look forward to the next book in this series.
Every book keeps getting better and better! I normally get bored or frustrated by book 17 of any series, but Terri Reid keeps me begging for more Mary! From the humorous Lassie references, to the daring suspect chases this book has it all. It's nice to see my husband isn't the only bacon fiend. And, Bradley just keeps becoming more heroic. I'm sure there isn't a better male character or real man out there. Mary always has her hands full. We are all wondering what's in store next...
Teri weaves a wonderful tale. Her books always make me smile. They are warm hearted, with mystery and humor. The love of family and friends always plays a key role in her books. There is just the right amount of paranormal to make them very believable. If you have not tried a book in this series you are really missing out. Great read!
In the seventeenth book in the Mary O'Reilly Paranormal Mystery Series, a very pregnant Mary and her husband and police chief Bradley Alden are faced with the case of intern Ruth McCredie. Ruth is shot and killed whilst collecting evidence against a bio-tech, agricultural company she works for. Was her death an accident or a murder? When Mary meets her ghost and inadvertently stumbles upon her body, she has to help her find the truth.
I read this book as part of my #yearofindiewomen.
Terri Reid's Mary O'Reilly series is among my top three favorite series of books ever. I absolutely love this series, and when I stumbled upon it last year on Kindle Unlimited, it made my year. I blasted through the first dozen or so books in a matter of days. Whenever I see she's released a new book, it's like Christmas. If you enjoy paranormal mysteries, you should 100% check out this series. They are easy to read, uplifting, and fun. Her characters are like real people. They become your friends; you really start to love them and grow attached to them. There's not a single one of them that I don't adore. And each and every one of her stories leave you with a warm and fuzzy heart. They're about ghosts, yes, but they're really about family, and friendships, hope, and above all, love.
Now, about this novel in particular. 'Frayed Edges' wasn't my favorite of the series, but I still enjoyed it because none of Terri Reid's books disappoint me. The Ruth McCredie's story line wasn't my favorite, but I loved the continuation of Mary and Clarissa's. True to most of this series, by the end, I was brought to tears. The scene with the quilt was just so very touching. Reid really knows how to write a lovely, heartwarming, family scene.
This is completely random, but one of my favorite websites is http://mynoise.net. If you've never been there, you should check it out. Calling it a white noise website isn't doing it justice, but that's the bare bones. It's an incredible site. It's an integral part of my writing process, so imagine my surprise and delight when I saw that Terri Reid had mentioned mynoise in 'Frayed Edges'! Super cool! I like to imagine her using the site while she writes about Mary and Bradley while I write about my characters.
I can't wait for the next book, and I can't wait until little Mikey is born. Mary is going to be such a good mother (as if she isn't already to Clarissa, but you know what I mean). I'm going to be so, so heartbroken when this series ends. I know it's impossible to ask, but please never stop writing about Mary and the clan, Terri! :)
My son introduced me to this author because she wrote about my home state and her mysteries involved ghosts. He knew I would love it, and 17+ books later I have to admit he was right. Although I never lived in the Freeport area, I know of it, and somehow that makes all the mysteries more real for me! In this latest one, the scandal about modified corn and safety issues about eating meat that had fed on it was very interesting. The mystery of the actual murder was well plotted and I was surprised by the conclusion. I also like these books because they stress family and friendships, and include ghosts of family gone as well. Even though you read about the unsavory murder, you still end each book with a feeling of warmth and happiness. These are books that need to be read in order so you can learn the continuing characters histories and relationship to Mary O' Reilly. Each book becomes a visit with family and friends, I recommend these to any age reader who likes mysteries and ghosts and some unusual sleuthing.
I can never get enough of Mary and the Freeport crew. This one is no different. I want more. Even though it wasn't hard to figure out the mystery I still love reading how Mary and Bradley go about solving the crime. I love all the interactions, the funny moments, the swoon worthy scenes between Mary and Bradley, and the wonderful heart warming and loving times between friends and family. And the heartbreaking moments when the families and friends of the ghost finally get closure, makes me appreciate the loved ones in my own life. And that ending LOL can't wait for the next book to see where that goes!
While trying to assist victims of a cholera epidemic from the past to find the light, Mary is confronted with the apparition of a young girl that has just recently been murdered. Mary knows that she has to help find the girls killer so that she can move on and find peace. Terri Reid, you never disappoint! If you haven't read a Mary O'Reilly Paranormal Mystery then I think you should....These books are full of mystery, ghostly apparitions and a whole lot of love, hope and heart! Great job Ms. Reid!
I was actually really excited when I saw this book pop up on my kindle unlimited. I was really excited! And this does not disappoint. I didn't care for the first book, but have grown to love this series. I anxiously await the next book to come along so I continue on the adventure with the characters. Though the mystery part is never hard to figure out, that is not why I keep reading it. I just love the story and the characters. It's clean easy fun quick reads.
She did it again. I just finished reading Book 17- Frayed Edges and really enjoyed reading it. This book centers around Thanksgiving and Clarissa's first birthday party with her new family. Mary is busy helping the guests in the nearby cemetery move on when she is unexpectedly thrust into a murder mystery. I loved seeing the old friends back together, Ian, Stanley and of course Rosie. It's like coming home.
Enjoyed every page of this book. You will too. Family mystery, paranormal exciting all the way through.funny at time sired each new book in this series and am never disappointed.
Enjoyed every page of this book. You will too. family mystery paranormal funny clean . I have read every book in this series and am looking forward to the next one.
Anyone wanting an entertaining afternoon read, should pick up Frayed Edges. Teri Reid is a master of suspense with a bit of the paranormal thrown in. The dialogue is crisp, the characters are well-defined and the plots themselves are always intriguing. I always enjoy her books and wish she would write faster!!
Mary is kind-hearted, intelligent and fun. I can't wait for every new installment in the series to be published. I'm hoping that the next volume in the Huntsman series comes out soon.
This is another Winner! If you enjoy paranormal mysteries, you will love this book. I absolutely cannot wait to read the next one. I simply am not able to put Reid's books down. Or in this case my phone.
I LOVE this series. In all honesty, I have suffered for years from clinical depression, and was suffering from a very serious downturn. This series helped get me through. The friendship, the camaraderie, the family, the love and laughter, helped tremendously. It was extremely helpful in getting me to that turning point back to me.
I laughed till my belly hurt, then cried until I couldn't see the words. I felt anger and betrayal for those whose journey was suspended. I found redemption, grace, and, most of all, hope. I loved the ghosts/spirits (except for those malevolent ones), the mortals, the story lines and resolutions. I loved the lessons these stories conveyed, and the poignancy with which they were told.
I have several favorite characters, Mary and Bradley (and, by extension, Clarissa), being the foundation. Ian is someone I want to meet, and get to know, and just listen to him talk. Hopefully, he wears the black shirt (but don't tell Gillian I said that...it's strictly platonic, I swear). Mike. Dear Mike. I cried so hard for him for some reason, especially the role he was given. It was a sweetness that I didn't even know i was craving. I love Mike. I want Mike on my side. Always. Rosie & Stanley, such a opposites-attract couple, yet full of love. The O'Reilly clan. Can I move in with them?? Or maybe just visit Ireland with Sean??
I suspended all other reading until I got through the entire series, and feel as though these characters are my friends and family. Please, please, please, give me more!
Note: I would love to give this series 4 1/2 stars, or even 5, but the grammatical and punctuation errors just don't cut it for me. Miss Terri, your writing is superb. Let it be polished until it glows. Let me be your proofreader (beta reader?).
Wow Mary's family Really go out for Thanksgiving We've got all kinds of people coming to our house But along with that She saved some people from the 1,800s Saves the girl Puts together huge Thanksgiving meal And the birthday Being 7 months pregnant No I was pretty active And did a lot Of these things except the ghost parts For Thanksgiving but I don't think I could have done all this Enjoy the book it's a lot of fun
What I need to read a Mary O'Reilly mystery; a cup of herb tea or a cold drink, a freshly popped bag of popcorn, and a box of tissues. That makes me happy! This author has a way of making you feel, which I believe is one of the signs of a great author. I laugh, I cry, I need tissues! You will truly enjoy this series!
Still dealing with Mary, Bradley and 9 months of pregnancy. I think we have made it to month 5 or maybe it was the sixth month. Just two more books and I am finished and I will never pick up this series again. UGH!!!! If I wanted to deal with pregnancy I would have gotten pregnant more than once!
I didn't want to put it down. Mary O'Reilly stories are wonderful and heart warming. Just good clean refreshing stories. Thank you giving us this little bit of hope and love in this crazy world today.
I’ve been on Christmas Vacation for almost two weeks now and I’ve read 17 of the Mary O’Reilly books. I have a few days left of vacation and a few more books to read. Can’t wait to see what happens next in Mary and Bradley’s crazy life.
Another great read in this series. Not one of my favorites, but still am enjoying this series. Seems like Mary has been pregnant forever, time to have the baby!!
