A Great Informative Short Read

An ample research has been conducted in this interesting book. Each discipline has its fare share of multitude schools, and psychology is for sure one of those disciplines. This informative book exposes the reader to quite a bit of ideas. If you’re into psychology, this book is a great short read. Highly recommended!

A quick read on social impact of Psychology.

Psychology has an impact on our beliefs about ourselves and how life ought to be lived as well as on our everyday behaviours.

All areas of psychology are increasingly concerned with investigating issues relevant to people's everyday functioning and their social and cultural contexts. The practical and professional application of psychology is important in many areas of life. Psychologists work as professional advisors, consultants or therapists in a range of settings such as education, the workplace, sport and mental health; and they increasingly research areas of immediate practical concern such as dyslexia, stress, police interviewing of eye-witnesses, and autism.

Psychology is one of my favorite subject because it is associated with every aspect of our life.

According to my notes it opened with "different psychologists focus on different aspects of human behaviour in different ways", which summed up the book nicely. This was a good book from the Open University, I do like their free short courses apart from you don't get the slides or audio presentations on my kindle, although you do get the summaries after.

It teaches you about the four founders of psychology: Charles Darwin who spent what seemed like an enormous length of time watching his young son develop and how he handled different situations; Wilhelm Wundt who asked people to report on their feelings and experiences; William James who published the Principles of Psychology in 1890 and lastly Sigmund Freud who I think was the first psychoanalyst. Psychology is a multi-faceted discipline.

I'm amazed I can still read my scribbled notes.

It was a good book and even if you are not going on to take a degree, it does give you some insights into what makes people act the way they do.

This free book and associated OpenLearn course is an introduction to the study of psychology. It is interesting, covering the history and development of psychology, methods and ethics. Some interesting cases are referred to, and it acts as an excellent gateway into the subject.

Good introduction to psychology but only touched on the history element briefly so if this is what you acquired the book for then maybe try something else.
