Another goodie from our beloved author Bruce Rose. 😘 His books have never failed to amuse me with witty and funny banters, steamy and sizzling smut, interesting characters and unique storylines. 👏 This is quite different from his books that I’ve read before. But I have to say, I don’t think this is quite as dark as other people claimed to be. Is it a bit crazy and OTT? Yes, sure .. but not dark. Just the right amount of sweet, dark and spicy. ❤️

Travis, a lonely survivalist, lives alone in a self-sufficient cabin in the vast acres of his private forest. He’s been alone for so long .. living by himself for over a decade. But even loners crave for a companion and human touch sometimes. He tried to find temporary companion by going into town and looking for one but that ended up badly. After that, he tried to suppress his urges for so long but he just couldn’t take it anymore. He wants a companion and he wants it bad. And the only way to obtain one is to kidnap a man and sate his desires.

Skye, a waiter by the occupation but an artist by soul. As far as he could remember, he’d been feeling out of place and he never felt like he truly belonged anywhere. And he had always known that he’s naturally submissive. Finally giving into his urges a year ago and now having a Dom, Skye still doesn’t feel like his current Dom is the right one for him. And our little Skye has pretty dark and kinky fantasies, to be kidnapped by a man and be taken by him. 😉 It’d be a dream come true if a rough man kidnaps him and have his dirty ways with him. So he decided to pay his Dom and asked him to arrange for his fantasy comes true.

For the hope of being kidnapped and his fantasy getting fulfilled, Skye went on a camping trip with his friends to an isolated mountain area. And oh yea, he got his wishes *ahem ahem* more than fulfilled. 😁 But he didn’t know that he man who’s kidnapping him is an actually kidnapper and not the one his Dom sent. And Travis was in for a huge surprise too. After he set his eyes on blonde hair, blue eyed cutie and kidnapped him at night, he found that his victim not only willing submit but also was desperate to get kidnapped by him. 😂👏 Taken aback and incredulous but deciding to not look a gift horse in the mouth, Travis brought Skye home and introduced him to a world of decadent, kinky and sizzling hot pleasures. 🔥 But it’s only sooner or later that Skye will find out about his dark, dark secret. And when he does, what will happen? 😌

The story doesn’t go on a lot. It’s about a lonely man who lives alone in the forest and another lonely man who lives in a concrete jungle city meeting by chance and discovering they are each other’s soulmates. 😍 Both MCs are imperfectly perfect. Travis having a terrible past and is afraid to let go and love again while Skye struggled with losing his identity and purpose in life after he finished college. Both men trying to get to know and learn about each other’s life is really sweet. 😊 The story made me reflect about how we are living our life. It’s a constantly moving world. We are always doing something and we are the slave of technology. Bruce Rose reminded me and taught me about the merit of doing nothing once in a while and about relaxing and letting go. 😌 It’s quite interesting to see how the connection between these two men develop from “nothing to everything”. 😍 And needless to say, the sex scenes are SOOOOOOOO hot! 😱 I just love how kinky and dirty and sizzling they are! 🔥 And the ending? It couldn’t be more perfect. Skye and Travis deserve each other and they got the ultimate HEA that they both desperately wanted. 😘

Favorite excerpts from the novel: 💙

"You can mark me if you want," Skye offered, trying to be generous. "I can do anything to you that I want."

"You're going to explore me." Skye reached for the blindfold. "Ah, ha. No." Travis pulled his hand away. "Use your hands, your lips, your tongue, and teeth." "But not my eyes?" "Not your eyes." "I've seen you, you know. I know you're not ugly." "This isn't about that." "What is this about?" "Learning a new way to explore another man." "And please him?" "That too."

They ate without talking much. Mostly they looked at each other and grinned. It felt so good to have company. Travis tried to wring every moment into a memory bottle so he could keep it forever.

"Beg me." "Please. Oh, God. Please let me come." "No." "Travis. Please." Music to his ears. Each time Skye cried out, Travis's cock twitched. "Fuck me. God. I feel so fucking empty."

"We have a chance to be happy." "But I did the wrong thing." "Not once did you make me do anything I didn't want to do. In fact, you made a point of asking for my permission." "Only to ease my own conscience." "I don't care what the reason was. You didn't take. I gave. Those are two very different things."

"You please me greatly." Travis kissed Skye's earlobe. "Do I please you?" "Beyond my wildest imaginings."

Lowering his mouth to Skye's ear, Travis asked, "Do you consent?" "Oh, yes." Skye moved back so he could look right into Travis's eyes. "I give myself to you completely."

Great start! A man hunting for another man to take back to his lair. Loved it! Unfortunately it did fizzle a bit, but I'm giving some extra credit due to the author's notes about suspending reality.

“Hey, it’s fantasy time. Don’t take anything you read here seriously…”

It was also fun and pretty dam hot!!

Travis lives as loner in a cabin isolated in the woods. He's attempted to ‘take’ men before to help with his loneliness, but has never been very successful. When he sees Skye out camping, he knows he's found his next target. The kicker is, Skye is waiting to be kidnapped as part of a role-playing game set up by his Dom. So things go a little more smoothly than Travis anticipated.

Unfortunately everything was a bit too fluffy for me. Skye and Travis hit it off and most of the book is them getting to know each other and having sex. I wasn't complaining about the sex at all, there was lots of bondage and edging and the edging scenes were particularly delicious.

And then he felt Travis’s tongue sliding against him. Skye angled his hips, offering himself completely. He dug his fingers into his flesh so that he could expose every inch of his needy hole for Travis’s probing tongue. Around and around in a maddening circle he went, heightening his need, tightening his resolve.

Some of the dialogue was slightly stilted and Skye's mood swings were pretty similar to a teenagers, but ‘suspend reality’ so I still had a lot of fun.

Who knew a story that starts out as a kidnapping ‘dub-con’ could turn into such a fluffy bondage story. Very sweet.

I'm so glad I re-read of this one! I had completely forgotten how funny the beginning is! The way Bruce Rose sets up the story is charming and gives so much insight into the characters, where they're coming from... and where they're going to end up.

Not being distracted by the basic premise I was able to just relax and appreciate what Rose is really saying.

I was touched by the characters' back stories and how much damage they both were living with. Especially Travis and the events of his past that compelled him to remove himself from society and find comfort in so much solitude. Poor Skye who has been repeatedly undervalued by the people in his life and is living with such low self esteem that he expects absolutely nothing from life. Even when he takes the initiative to affect some changes he's still at the mercy of other people's actions.

Both these men are just seeking physical release and a kinky little thrill, but as they reveal parts of themselves and make a real connection, we see how much they need each other and the story takes on a whole different meaning.

These two men have great chemistry and the sex is super hot, but I found so much more meaning in their interactions my second time through. I’m still holding with my initial description of Consent as a really sweet, feel-good romance, it’s just that there is a whole ‘nother level of things going on here. I love the message in this one and I read the whole book with a smile on my face. So thank you, Mr. Rose, for this wonderful story :).

Suspend normal beliefs and enjoy this wonderful story !
*** Survivalist Travis lived alone in his bunker.***

He'd been plotting to find a companion to share his life with, but to no avail. Finally, he's desperate, and tries a new plan.
* Kink loving Skye is camping with friends,

but has paid for a "kidnap scenario" to spice up his life and needs. He loves it !
It's better than he expected, but he doesn't know - Travis wasn't hired. He doesn't know it's real. Their three days are glorious for both men, and filled with bondage, edging, and all manners of hot, erotic, sexy times.

Oh yeah, lots of extreme sexiness, kinky play and both men are falling hard. We get to see both guys inner thoughts, and Skye may want to stay. But, Travis feels guilty, and must return him to his life. Travis is afraid he'll be hated if the truth comes out.

Back in the city, Skye learns the truth and his money he paid for the scenario was not spent, but kept by his so-called friend, as were all of his belongings. There was a mishap, and Skye was considered dead.

Skye is miserable; he wants Travis. Can he find him?

This is well written, gripping, and full of delicious anticipation. It is different, exciting, unrealistic, but eye-opening ! Great fun, and SO sexy !
ENJOY !

Suspend belief all ye who enter here!

Which the author states very clearly at the beginning. The set-up is a fantasy, roll with it. Make sure you do that so you can enjoy Consent for the kinky delight that it is. I like to think of it as a pervy rom-com with a twisted meet-cute that brought two charming characters together who wouldn’t have otherwise found one another. And when two guys get a perfect kink alignment, it’s worth an improbable/impossible meeting to make sure these guys got a story.

Travis is a very lonely survivalist with some serious past heartbreak and Skye is a man trying to find his way through his kinkster inclinations. Skye thinks he just needs to keep upping the ante but what he really needs is to find someone who appreciates him and feeds his needs. Turns out, Travis is that guy. They actually got to know one another pretty well in the short time they were together on Travis’s mountain. I loved the banter between the two of them and that’s where I got the rom-com feel, in the more lighthearted moments.

Travis showed Skye what it meant to slow down and appreciate, well, everything. Just because Skye was missing something in his life, didn’t mean he had to have everything harder, faster and more. Travis taught Skye all about orgasm delay and denial. It was definitely more on the delay side, because they did get off and the denial was a matter of days, but the author worked that tension into his writing really well. It was edging that was delicious to read.

“Making him a party to his own denial increased his longing.”

There were some very sweet feels that came with the budding relationship between the two of them. Neither could believe what a perfect match they found in the other. But, there was the little thing about the very big lie that would keep them from being together forever. So, there was the sacrifice of an HEA by Travis to save Skye from the truth, but every good love story, no matter how improbable, has a redemptive HEA that has more value that any ending would have the first time around.

So, I’m off to buy more Bruce Rose books. This was my first Rose and I’m definitely a fan. All I have to hear in my head is Travis asking Skye, “Do you consent?” and I’m all in.

Kidnapping is a favorite trope of mine. The kidnappee thinking it's just a game makes it EVEN BETTER. I knew I had to have this book as soon as I read the blurb in the back of another of the author's books, and it did not disappoint!

You'd think this would be a dark romance, given the theme, but our kidnapper is a kind man at heart, and he quickly realizes he doesn't *want* the other guy to be afraid of him. Their chemistry is explosive, their quiet moments talking and opening up are sweet, and the resolution felt believable to me.

This was thoroughly enjoyable, and one I will probably return to again.

This story was really fascinating as an idea. What are the odds, something Travis does try to work out at some point, that he would kidnap a kinkster who was waiting to be kidnapped for a kinky fantasy? Seriously!

Travis is a survivalist who lives off the land. He’s been living in a bunker in the mountains for a while now. But he’s lonely, and for some reason, (probably a result of the mountain air and being alone so long) he thinks that kidnapping some guy from a camp site is a brilliant way to meet a mate. Naturally…..

This is another great story by Bruce Rose. A kidnap story that turns into a love story. Travis is so lonely and desperate that he decides to kidnap a man. It just so happened the one he kidnaps is a submissive who’s arranged a fake kidnapping while on a camping trip. The story is charming and the sex is hot.

4.5 stars from me. This is my third book from Mr. Rose and while I loved all of them, this was my least favorite. All those wonderful kinks lined up, which, I have to say, make for one heck of a great "fantasy". I loved the beginning from the whole kidnapping, through the playful banter in bed, and the getting-to-know-you phase. I fell out of love in the last third, because there is a time gap where I really wanted to know what was going on in both men's lives, but was left hanging with nothing, until BAM! back together for a sweet HEA.

Still you can't fault the wonderful writing style and the creativeness of the scenerios Mr. Rose subjects his characters to. He had me at the opening Dedication and kept me entertained right through to the end.

I found the premise of this story pretty intriguing (yes, I like the idea of a character with a rape fantasy, go ahead and judge me), although you need a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief to get past the fact that one of the MC you’re supposed to like rationalizes kidnapping another human being as the only solution for his own loneliness.
The conclusion at the end wasn’t any more realistic, if we want to be technical, but by that time I was just rolling with it and anyway it did fit with the overall tone and the characters.

Speaking of the characters, I liked both Skye and Travis and how their relationship progressed. I expected a much darker atmosphere, given how they meet, but this was more on the light and fluffy side, despite some serious issues in .
The writing was good as well, apart from some stilted dialogues and some minor pacing issues, especially near the end.
About the BDSM aspect, it was mostly bondage and edging, Travis “played” the kind of Dom I like, super focused on Skye’s well-being and pleasure, with the D/S dynamic confined to the bedroom and even there the roles became kind of fluid at least on one occasion.

All in all, Consent was a pretty entertaining read and I’ll certainly try something else by this author.

Love this one... it wasn’t what I expected... I thought it was hardcore but is was sweet, emotional and here and there some humor.
A dream come true for both men.
One wanted some kink with kidnapping and one wants to kidnap.
Everything comes together, there are some delicious scenes...
Both men were excellent put down.
Gonna look at more titles by this author.

Travis lives in seclusion, closing himself off from society and living a quiet life living off his land and any monies he makes from selling his work. The only issue that seems to arise is the need for companionship. He tries to fight the desire but when it becomes too strong he ends up giving in and plotting a way to hunt a man to satisfy his needs.

Skye is a submissive that paid a Dom to help him fulfill a fantasy. He's expecting someone to kidnap him and do a scene with him. He goes out with a few friends to a camping ground and as the day progresses it doesn't seem like his unreliable Dom has come thru. It's not until Skye prepares for bed that his "abductor" arrives and he's better than Skye imagined he would be.

I found this to be quite a kinky read with Skye's kidnap/rape fantasy. Both Travis and Skye turned out to be likable characters even though they both did something that wasn't completely safe or conventional. There was a good balance with the relationship building and the intimacy scenes.

The only thing that bugged me about the reading was the thing with Evan and Travis. Travis told Skye that things ended badly when they were fourteen. Travis shared with Skye that he enjoyed knife play because Evan did and it made me feel awkward that teenagers at that age would engage in knife play. Other than that I enjoyed the reading.

This was an amazing amalgam of an absurd premise, some kinky sex and emotions. I just enjoyed it so much, I couldn't give less than five stars. It's rare to find a novella that can make me connect so well with its characters. Travis wasn't a complete recluse or survivalist. He had a pretty cushy setup, actually. Skye was a young man trying to make sense of his life and his less than run-of-the-mill desires. Apart from the unlikely idea and results of the kidnapping, everything else was well supported by the exposition of the story. There was even meaningful, thought provoking dialogue between Travis and Skye. It's a terrific balance of elements. The sex scenes were so well done, with a D/s element and a very unusual dominant. There's a little bondage and spanking and a fascinating take on edging and orgasm denial. Denial usually turns me right off, but this was so different than anything I've read before.

Another highly recommended story from this talented author. I would love to see what Bruce Rose might do if the urge to write a longer story ever hits him!

The blurb pretty much sets up the story so I won't go over it again. I couldn't help but laugh at the beginning with the botched kidnapping. The BDSM was very lite so if you are looking for heavy BDSM, look elsewhere. The edging scenes were great. What surprised me was how quickly Travis showed Skye around even into his work room. The way that Skye and Travis meshed was pretty amazing. The story was a good, quick but very satisfying read.

While the set up required a lot of suspension of disbelief, I went with it because it pulled me in and seemed like it would be an interesting ride. The writing was good, the sex scenes were nicely done, but it ended up being a lot lighter than I had thought it would be from the blurb.

Sweeter than I expected...

With a title like "Consent" and a premise involving kidnapping, I expected this book to be 100% kink. It's actually a sweet story about two men who meet in an interesting way and wind up saving each other.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I really appreciate his comfortable dialogue. In one of my favorite sections, the two main characters are discussing some heady topics about societal pressures, being true to oneself, and even self-harm. Some authors can make this type of discussion seem forced and unnatural, but Rose drew me in with his genuine and believable conversational style.

The sexy scenes surprised me a bit. As someone who reads a lot of m/m romance, there aren't many passages that make me think "Well, I haven't read that before!" but this book had several. Also, as I mentioned, I wasn't quite prepared for the gentleness wrapped around the kink. Before almost every sexual encounter, Travis asked Skye "do you consent?" This threw me a bit because Skye invariably agreed but never knew what he was consenting to until it happened. I'm not sure that was necessary since the pair used a safeword, and that implies uninformed consent until consent is revoked, but it tied a theme together throughout the book.

Something niggled at me the entire book and prevented me from really losing myself in it. I kept waiting for a revelation that would make it ok that the one main character literally kidnapped the other main character, but that concept never came. We better understand Travis's mental state later in the book, but I never got why this man, who seems very sane and kind and smart, decided it was ok to steal another human being in the first place.

Not what I was expecting but a very sweet and sexy read!

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I'm torn. I liked the characters, their dynamic was really interesting. The romance was convincing. The story flowed well. I just never connected the way I thought I would. I also had a hard time moving past the circumstances of their meeting. The author does a good job of addressing the inherent problems and awkward uncomfortableness of the situation. The characters talk about it, it's moved past, but it still never gelled for me.There is a lot of talk of consent, but consent given under false pretenses isn't consent. I just couldn't let it go. It bugs me that I couldn't. I've read worse. I don't know why this didn't work. Maybe I was just in an off mood.

This was enjoyable, but I think I was expecting more of a fast paced, high tension plot. I was also expecting erotica, but this definitely read more like a romance, just with a bit of kink.

I did like the first part, but it definitely felt dragged out in the end.

Fast and Furious Fantasy!

Who doesn't love a good erotic fantasy? I'm not talking Beauty-and-the-Beast kind of fantasy. I'm talking the tie-me-up-and-make-me-yours kind of fantasy. That's some sexy happening all over the page there when it comes to erotic work; Bruce Rose does a great job pulling the reader down the rabbit hole into whatever isolated un-reality he's created as a part of making the perfect fantasy really perfect. My one caveat is that since this is a fantasy? Don't go into the reading of the work with the thought in mind it should be logical or plausible. Toss that out the wind and roll with the story. It's worth it.

Travis started off with this sense of wrongness to me. I didn't like the idea he was going to abduct some innocent guy because he was just lonely. Who does that? No one deserves to actually be abducted for someone else's physical/emotional needs. I started to love him when I realized Consent really was all about giving and receiving consent. He never wanted to have to resort to an abduction. He simply couldn't stand living in the cruel outside world anymore so he found a compromise in Skye.

Skye is such a perfect puppy. I really loved him. He's got this deep burning desire to be told he's good, he's valuable, he's appreciated, cherished, even loved. I realized a lot of his submission fantasies came from a desire to want to belong to someone or have someone want to keep him for more than a night. The fact he'd had horrible luck with his partners in the past made Travis the best thing which could have happened to him.

Overall Consent is a really fantastic erotic fantasy with a loving edge all the way through. I can't imagine a world in which I hadn't discovered Bruce Rose as an author so I know I'll be back for more. I only hope the next rabbit hole he drags me down isn't another BDSM-friendly bunker because I'll have to worry about spontaneous human combustion.

So, once you get past the initial highly unlikely set up (which to be fair, Travis himself thinks is highly unlikely too, although actually, the more you get to know Travis, the more out of character what he did at the beginning becomes), this is actually a pretty decent book.

I've tagged it as bdsm, but it's more bondage than anything else and it's not even much of that. There is, quite a lot of edging (a bonus for me), but really it's a bit of a romance under unlikely circumstances.

3.5 stars from me. Bonus points for mentioning differential equations, albeit in passing.

In the setup, this was remarkably similiar to the first book I read this year, Debt. The “victim” requested a non-consensual sexual experience only to have someone other than the paid party take them up on the invitation. But that’s where the similarities end. Debt was dark, this story was surprisingly light in tone.

Skye Randall was a sub who had yet to find his happy place sexually. He knew he liked to be bound, controlled, and used roughly, but he had yet to find a Dom who met his needs, yet still respected him in the morning. He had paid his current Dom to kidnap him and have his way with him for a week. So when a lonely mountain man kidnapped him for companionship, he dove head first into the adventure.

Travis Winslet lived off the grid, having everything he wanted but companionship. When dating failed and he needed more than his hand to satisfy him, he decided to kidnap a man. He ran all sorts of scenarios, trying to decide what kind of man he wanted, and where to find him. Finally deciding to kidnap a lone sober man camping with friends who had long since passed out. He covered the young man’s mouth, and wrapped his arms around his body, just as he finished peeing against a tree.

After getting a non-verbal promise not to scream, Travis uncovered the young man’s mouth only to have his victim warn him of a peanut allergy, share his safe word, and ask if they were going to have sex now. His victim ran half-heartedly, clearly wanting to be caught, and showed way too much enthusiasm at the threat of being tied up.

Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Travis tied & blindfolded the young man, dragging him home with him. Once inside, he was surprisingly gentle, negotiating sex like a normal consensual BDSM relationship, taking the young man’s preferences to heart, and explicitly asking for consent before scening.

Besides being sexually compatible, Travis finds he enjoys Skye’s companionship, finding hope in Skye’s hints that he wants more than the week he was promised.

Outside their sexual relationship, Travis teaches Skye to let go of the frantic pace of the city, to relearn doing nothing, and to soul search as to what he really wants out of life.

But in the end, the lie between them forces Travis to make a decision. Tell Skye the truth and taint his memory of their short time together or send Skye home with the cryptic message:

“When you figure this out, and I know you will, please don’t hate me.”
