I'm not a big fan of MOB's, but the title of this one grabbed my attention and I wanted to see what it was about. I'm glad that I did. The story begins with a 16 year old girl who is thrown from the orphanage that she has lived in all her life; why, because both of her legs are crippled. Later in the story we find out why. While she is looking for some kind of job, having absolutely nothing of her own, she comes across a marriage office. She goes in to find a job and leaves with the hope that she would find a husband.
In the West a preacher needs a wife, someone who can reach this rugged town for Jesus. When this crippled girl arrives he isn't sure what he should do, so he brings her to the only place in town he knows she will be loved and cared for, the orphanage. Here our heroine finds love and care, something she never knew at her other orphanage. She also finds a way to minister to the children there, which leads her to ministering to the people in her new church. As time goes by she isn't sure that the preacher will keep his promise to marry her, which is a heartbreak to her, but in this town she has found acceptance and love, something she never had before.
I really liked the Christian message in this story and the life lived by our heroine, her trust and faith despite her situation were such an encouragement. You don't often find that in stories. I can't count the number of stories out there where people are angry with God because a hardship has come into their lives - oh, they eventually see how they've been wrong, but you get a whole story of anger. In this story you get faith and joy and peace in the midst of an incredibly difficult situation. It's not long and I read it in a couple of hours, but I got a whole lot of joy in reading it!
This is a clean, wonderful read.
