This story is very original as is the concept and I really enjoyed the read. It has an excellent ending but I think the structure suffers slightly from the way it was approached. I understood from the beginning that this was three distinct voices as in that this is three writers telling a story from three perspectives. I am not sure if I might have preferred not to be aware of this as I began to pick holes in comparative standards and styles from the very beginning. It is hard enough to write with one mind but for three authors to make differing plot decisions as they go, it must have been near impossible. There is a wonderful edge to the book which is perhaps a benefit of this approach and it was such a refreshingly original concept that I had to admire this book throughout. Fundamentally this is a clever, story, extremely well told by three very talented authors. I quickly discovered my favourite, I guess that’s inevitable and what I have discovered, quite literally is that here are three authors that I will seek out for their individual talents for sure. Pick this book up, revel in its originality and enjoy the tale. Hats off on this one to all three writers, I am happy to recommend this one and I am sure you will seek out other work by these three writers as soon as you finish the last page.

Daniel, Molly and Jake. Three devoted and inseparable friends. Addicted to extreme sports and the adrenalin rush, nothing can keep them apart, until one of them dies in an accident. But was it an accident, or did one or both of the other two conspire to murder, in the guise of an accident?

The introduction to this book explains how the three authors each took one of the three main characters as their own and took turn and turn about writing chapters from their own character's perspective. Each could lead the story in any direction they chose, with the others then having to adapt.

For this reason, 'Tortured Minds' doesn't read like a novel you'd get from the hand of a single writer. It twists and turns, with curve balls thrown into the plot. But this makes it a fascinating read in its own right. You wouldn't want EVERY book to be written this way, but its unique structure keeps you guessing. It helps that all three authors are masters of their craft. It's genuinely enthralling and great fun to read!

For the climax of the book, they each wrote their own final version of the final chapter, then chose the one that they felt worked best. However, the other two, alternate endings are also included as appendices, and it's great to see how very different they all are, though each is a thoroughly satisfactory conclusion to the story in its own way.

A very interesting experiment, which has gifted us with a twisted, continually challenging but always fascinating and entertaining read.

I feel like my mind has been completely and wonderfully tortured by this new psychological and paranormal thriller. This is like no other book you will read. It is well crafted, and will take you into the heads of three very different characters – each who you want to love and hate!

Put it this way, I started it in the morning, thinking I’ll spend an hour reading. I couldn’t put the book down, and even when I did I had to get back to the story to see what mind games the characters would play next! Each chapter takes you on a spin, as you enter the minds of the three different characters in turn. It’s a true psychological suspense thriller – as you have no idea where it’s heading, and you can’t even guess! I finished this at 2am in the morning, as I just couldn’t stop reading it.

Jake, Daniel and Molly are great characters – each good and bad in their own ways… but linked to each other more than they realise (or want to be). When the game is over, I didn’t want it to end.

What I really loved was the alternative endings – and I have to be honest – I’m not sure how they chose, I actually liked all three!

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED READ if you want something completely different!

Tortured Minds is an interesting and powerful read. I gained a lot of enjoyment from the end of each section, as I imagined the next author cursing the name of the one prior! The fact that they managed to take each unexpected twist and run with it so well is a testament to the skill of each author.

I do think more knowledge of gender theory and alternative relationship types would have benefitted the plot, but it definitely kept me wanting to read onwards and I'd be interested to read more in this format. Good work, all round!

An excellent novel - it is a credit to the 3 authors that the flow of the story ran so smoothly. Each chapter added another cog in the wheel which was integrated immediately into the following chapter/character's story and then carried forward. The storyline certainly keeps the reader on his/her toes; not quite knowing how the story is going to develop and what will happen next. I did enjoy the conclusion that was accepted as the best by the 3 writers. It managed to bring in yet another unknown but it was exquisitely linked to references made in previous chapters. Very clever indeed. All three writers have blended varying talents together so well that I believe there needs to be another joint effort in the very near future. I know I will be looking out for it.

Really unique drama come ghost story. I could hear the voices of three different authors, so each character was very individual. I was never entirely sure where the book was going and loved the three different endings. [My Favourite ending was by Colin Griffiths but then it was also the darkest and that's just my personal taste.] The story wound about all over the place and held the tension beautifully, I'm not going to give anything away by talking about the storyline itself, but it certainly was a gripping read.

Fantastically crafted mind game thriller - i liked the way the chapters switched between just the three main characters - and it was only part way through I realised it was the three different authors - really works though as they took on each of their characters. Whilst the premise seems simple, the way the story unfolds certainly wasn't. When new twists and characters came into the mix, I enjoyed seeing how each of the characters dealt with new blows.

Definite must read!

Note: This book was sent to me by Mr. Grant in exchange for an honest review

So again, almost all the books that I reviewed I literally found out about them on Twitter, and I got a little curious since Mr. Grant lives in the Philippines and I’ve never reached out to or found an author that resided in the Philippines. Well, maybe there are tons, but I just haven’t discovered them yet. So the thing that I was curious about, since Mr. Grant wrote paranormal books, I’m curious if he used the mythical creatures in the Philippines’ folklore and stuff.

The book cover looks quite intimidating in a way. But any psychological thriller reader would probably pick it up and see what it’s about.

Actually, when I read the synopsis, I was quite intrigued since there were three authors who collaborated on this book. And each author had his or her own character to write about, and they wrote the book in such a way that if the first author came up with this plot twist, the other author had to go with the flow and add some spice to it in their own way.

So the books were great. Well, I liked how the story progressed; it was smooth even though three authors wrote it. The book was interesting at the beginning, but the story kind of lost me in the middle parts. I mean, the transition from each point of view was really smooth, but the story, not so much. And this book also regained my interest in the last few chapters, not the ending. But the unexpected twists and turns contributed to the book’s charm. At first, the paranormal stuff was really grabbing my attention, but it was lost when the paranormal being gave too much contact to the other characters, as if he were still alive. And I’m a super fan of paranormal stuff, and those things, well, this is a work of fiction after all. But the things that happened aren’t well possible unless possession was involved, which it is not.

✅Dialogues: Good; there were some grammar mistakes, but not that overwhelming.

✅Characters: So I really like the characters in this book. At first, they are somewhat innocent in a way, but flashbacks show how pretentious or manipulative they are.

✅Plot: It was nice to have a ghost that tried to find out who killed him. But the way he made too much contact lost me.

✅Flow of the Story: The transition from one point of view to the other was smooth, but the story line seems to be off at some point since there are three authors writing the book. It’s understandable.

✅Detailing: was good.

Overall, this is a very good psychological thriller. It has great twists and turns, with the minor setbacks of parts getting way off the plot, and the ending was not that shocking; it was really random, to be honest.

This is an unusual book, in that it has three authors who alternated chapters, each writing from one character’s point of view. I’ve heard of co-writing novels, but I’ve never before read the result of such a collaboration. I must confess, I was a bit skeptical going in, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I’m not usually a fan of first person point of view, but it was extremely effective in this case. There were many twists and turns, and each different agenda helped maintain interest. There are three alternate, and quite different, endings, and it is amusing to try to make all the pieces fit in your own mind. I did find the resolution the weakest part of the book, but overall, this was a very good read, especially for those interested in the paranormal.

Tortured Mind Rachel McGrath 3
Although it was a very enticing premise promising some nice psychological twists by the time we got to the end the three characters started to wear a bit thin. They had very little redeeming them which doesn’t have to matter but after a while it just seemed a mess of confusing emotions rather than three people’s individual personalities. It still kept me interested but towards the end it became a little tedious so that the alternative endings failed to make an impact.
However it was very well-written and a most novel novel idea, and yes I know I have repeated the word but it suited what I wanted to say.

Like the authors I didn't know where this book was going but after the second chapter for Molly I was beginning to understand and enjoy it. By the second Jake chapter I was hooked.

The idea of the way these authors worked is novel for me...as it was for them. It works and resulted in a well told and written psychological thriller.

Now each time I read a book I will probably come up with alternative endings! I appreciate how difficult this must have been for them but they should give each other a clap on the back...it worked and it worked well.

A great read

A great read. Three distinct styles writing in three different directions might sound like a battle of the pens, but the plots here harmonise beautifully, and guide you to not one, but three choices of ending. Three characters, whose fates are intertwined by love, sex, and tragedy have three tales of humour, drama, and horror that will hold you spellbound, until the last words. Thrice.
