In a series of conversations with the noted French authority, the Pope discusses his personal life, his thoughts about moral and spiritual issues, and the contemporary role of the church and the priesthood
This book's origin began because of a conversation between the author, André Frossard and the late Pope John Paul II. With the Pope's permission, the author had a series of questions for him. The subjects they discussed were:
1) His person, his youth, parents, his vocation and his election to the Papacy.
2) The Faith, from questions put to him by a young atheist at the Parc des Princes, left unanswered at the time.
3) Morality, the moral problems that confront Christian's consciences today.
4) The Church, its situation in a contemporary world, the role of the priest, ecumenism, etc.
5) The World, the tensions and violence, the hopes and contradictions.
In a last chapter, the author has assembled the testimonies of his private secretary and of various doctors who attended him after the assassination attempt of 13th May 1981.
The result is this book; which is partly autobiographical, partly confessional and partly an exposition of doctrine.
