The latest installment in M.A. Lawson's thrilling Kay Hamilton series, K Street finds the ex-DEA agent working solo to uncover the motivations behind a gruesome shooting at a covert intelligence agency in Washington, D.C.
It’s been almost a year since Kay Hamilton was fired from the DEA for going rogue. Since then, she’s been employed by the Callahan Group, a covert intelligence agency based in Washington, D.C. Her job description is as dubious as the people she works for, and the undercover mission that nearly killed her in Viking Bay has Hamilton questioning the legitimacy of her employers.
When Hamilton arrives at the Callahan Group’s K Street office to tender her resignation, she unwittingly interrupts a deadly heist during which the robbers have stolen the company safe and left her boss gravely injured. She knows that Thomas Callahan doesn’t keep much cash in the safe—the men must have been after something other than money. But before Callahan slips into a coma, he whispers a name that will lead Kay to an organization even more secretive than the Callahan Group: the NSA.
Gripping, cinematic, and endlessly entertaining, K Street is the third installment of M.A. Lawson’s Kay Hamilton series, which follows our tough, gun-toting, and fearless heroine as she sets out to find answers and exact revenge.
Stolen plans, Chinese spies and a government based thriller that is sure to delight, K Street was a refreshing blast of what made me fall in the thriller genre.
Kay, fired for “going rouge” from the DEA, is now working for the Callahan Group. The Callahan Group is an uber covert agency and not even Kay knows who pulls the strings behind the organization.
When Thomas Callahan is attacked, Kay must traverse the dangerous world of machinations, government cover ups and spies to survive.
Kay is a heroine that you can really get behind; a no hold bars type of gal. Amazing, strong and SMART, Kay is who I’d want to have my back when the poop hits the fan.
Finally a strong spy caper without too much sex getting in the way.
My first by M. A. Lawson but it won't be my last.
I received this ARC copy of K Street from PENGUIN GROUP Blue Rider Press & Plume in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication Jan. 17, 2017.
My first experience with this author and series turned out to be a great one. I plan to go back and read the prior novels to get to know more about the Callahan Group and Kay. Kay is a kick-ass heroine. She showed that she can play rough ball. I would rather be fighting along side her than against her. Besides being strong, she is also smart. Oh, and she does not care if you are male or female. If you get in her way, you better give her what she wants.
A good storyline with plenty of intrigue. Because the story was strong with equally strong characters, I was able to really get into this book. It moved fast. I would say that I was not too surprised by how the plot went or ended. Yet, I was not disappointed either. Kay is my kind of woman.
This is my second audible book in a row from this series and about this woman protagonist. I didn’t have very much to say about the first book I listened to, but it appears that I have been in trapped by this author. one can only begin to wonder what Kay will do next!
This book gives a good deal more depth to the mysterious organization that gives this series all of the non-governmental spy intrigue. That gives those of us some satisfaction that want some understanding of how this operation works both in significant channels and mostly off the books. This book Has more people dispatched by firearms than your average crime book without overdoing the gruesome details of bullet and shotgun damage. Our lead character manages to be a murderer without quite seeming the type. The skill of the author is evident throughout.
Copilot AI has this to add:
M. A. Lawson is a pen name for the award-winning novelist Mike Lawson, who is also known for creating the Joe DeMarco series. Under the pseudonym M. A. Lawson, he has written a series featuring the character Kay Hamilton.
The book “K Street” is the third installment in the Kay Hamilton series. In this novel, Kay Hamilton, a former DEA agent, now works for the Callahan Group, a covert intelligence agency in Washington, D.C. After nearly losing her life on an undercover mission, she decides to resign but stumbles upon a deadly heist at her office. The robbers have stolen the company safe and left her boss critically injured. Before her boss falls into a coma, he utters a name that leads Kay to the NSA. The story follows Kay as she seeks answers and revenge, navigating through a world of secretive organizations and high-stakes intrigue.
The Kay Hamilton series is known for its gripping, cinematic storytelling, and “K Street” continues to deliver a thrilling experience with its tough, gun-toting, and fearless heroine.
Come along and join the chase of the unsavory with Kay Hamilton. Kay had been a DEA agent. She was fired and is now employed by the Callahan Group. Intending to quit as she not sure about how legitimate this agency is, she is in for a real surprise. Upon going to the agency, she discovers an unreal scene... Her boss has been attacked. He is in serious condition. His safe is stolen. Two of her fellow workers are dead. Kay starts her investigating!!! A convert agency, a secret organization, Chinese spies, tension thick with unexpected twists and turns. Into what has Kay gotten herself involved?? Fast-paced, interesting characters, plenty of suspense, mystery, intrigue mixed with some humorous situations and a touch of romance. The past and present are weaved together without difficulty. This is book #3 in the Agent Kay Hamilton series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read "K Street". Thanks to First To Read for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
I received this book from Goodreads in exchange for a review.
Kay Hamilton is a ‘take no prisoners’ kind of gal. She’s strong, she’s resilient, and she’s tough. She’s already been fired from the DEA, and now, after a year with Callahan Group, she is beginning to have serious doubts about their legitimacy. So when she goes to work one morning, planning to tell her boss that she can no longer work for the Callahan Group, but instead finds the office under siege, she takes action. She has no idea what is really going on within the walls of the Callahan Group, but she is about to find out. She is going to track down whoever killed two of her fellow workers and who also put her boss into intensive care. And what was in the stolen safe the seems to be the reason for the attack? A few whispered words from her boss start the wheels rolling. There is a shadow group pulling the strings of the Callahan Group. But just who are they and what is their motivation? Kay is damned well going to find out, and no one and nothing is going to stop her.
From the first page to the final sentence, the action, the subterfuge, and the unknown, will have the reader holding their breath.
This is fantastic fun, a thrilling story and great, great characters. I love the author’s writing style, he writes with real wit and an ability to put you into the place of his characters, be they the good guys or the bad guys. His main series “House Justice” etc is very good indeed, but I am loving the Kay Hamilton series and this is the best to date. Hamilton is an ex- DEA agent (the term “loose cannon” might have been made for her) who works for a mysterious and secretive company that does the dark and dirty stuff the US Intelligence agencies want to distance themselves from. Hamilton goes to a late meeting at the office to find a robbery is in place and her boss has been shot. Hamilton is not the type to let this kind of thing go, so starts her own investigation. The bad guys are scared of her and the intelligence agencies are using her as a stalking horse, but not a lot can stop Kay Hamilton…. Loved this and it really is such clever, tight writing. I would heartily recommend this.
This is a Goodreads win review. This seems to be book three in a series. The main lady was fired from the DEA. Then she goes to work for someone questionable and this will lead her to more secrets.
Fast moving and a semi-fun character, but Joe DeMarco is my guy. Got ridiculous in the middle and continued to get worse toward the end. Do NOT recommend.
Kay Hamilton is both smart and dogged in her efforts to track down those who killed some of her coworkers (whom she didn't know) and wounded Callahan, her secretive and one would dare say, lying boss at the Callahan Group.
A professional gang raided the Group's offices in the early evening, killing two workers and wounding Callahan himself while stealing a safe. Unfortunately for the gang, Callahan was able to kill one of the five and Hamilton came along just at the wrong time for the gang and killed a second.
But the gang wasn't working on their own but rather at the behest of "John", who was paying them a princely sum to steal the safe.
As it turns out there are others who wind up dead as John (or his real name, Fang) will stop at very little to achieve his goal and maintain a secret for his government, China. But then Fang can't account for Hamilton whom some would call a rogue agent.
Olivia Prescott, an upper management individual with NSA manipulates Hamilton in order to find out all of the details of why the safe was stolen and by whom. What Prescott doesn't realize is that manipulating Hamilton is like holding on to a life snake, one that can turn around and bite you if you aren't careful, and being careful may not be enough to protect Prescott.
Hamilton does her best to stay ahead of the gang, ahead of John/Fang and ahead of Prescott who uses all of the tools of the NSA to try to keep track of Hamilton. How well does Kay do that? Read the book.
I read this book because I enjoyed the DeMarco series but I don't think I'll continue. Spoilers ahead.
Kay Hamilton works as security for the Callahan Group, an off the books espionage and action group run by some retired US spies at executive levels. They do the things that can be denied by the US government but needs to be done for the good of the nation. But we don't really see any of that, that's just the background.
At the beginning of the story, they are given some nuclear submarine secret information for safe keeping and a foreign espionage agent (Chinese) hires some criminal heavy hitters to steal it. The hitters basically attack the office after hours and kills whoever is there. Hamilton shows up accidentally and attacks the hitters, killing one of them as they are leaving.
The rest of the book is just her getting revenge, finding the hitters and getting the secret information back. There is no subtlety in the book, it's all just action. It was fine and I enjoyed reading it.
I received the book for free through Goodreads Giveaways.
This is the third book in the series but the first one I have read. I also have never read anything by this author before. I liked this book-it has a good story line and likable characters. The book was fast paced-lots and lots of action. The lead character, Kay Hamilton, is a well-trained operative that likes to do things her way (she was fired from the government job she had earlier). She now works for a private company that allows her lots of leeway to complete her job. Kay goes to Callahan’s office to quit, but finds it being robbed and her boss Thomas Callahan has been shot. She is now determined to find out what happened and get the people responsible. This is a fast read and will keep you reading to find out what happens next.

I was unfamiliar with the writer of this very good and engrossing spy/counter-intel novel. Kay Hamilton, our protagonist, is a well-trained and dangerously effective operative. She works for a private contractor which gives much more leeway than her government employed brethren. In this installment, Kay, must discover who attacked Thomas Callahan. An exciting story awaits the reader as Kay battles spies, government lies and cover-ups as well as the danger inherent in the intelligence business. I strongly recommend K STREET as well as the first two entries into what I hope will be a fixture in the thriller genre.
The third book in this action series, but it is not necessary to have read the first two.
Kay Hamilton is ex-DEA, and now works for a covert intelligence agency. She stumbles into a broad daylight, deadly heist taking place in her employer's DC office, and from there the action is non-stop as she pursues bad guys and the NSA pursues her.
The author writes as Mike Lawson for his Joe DeMarco series. Both characters are amusing rule breakers who get caught up in the machinations of government double crossings. I keep waiting for the movie version of his books, and this one, with a bold female main character, would definitely make a timely and fun popcorn film.
Mr. Michael Lawson has delighted readers for decades as Mike Lawson and now M.A. Lawson. The present title features Kay Hamilton: quick, clever, suspicious, tough and willing to pull the trigger. One of the hallmarks of these stories is that Lawson is willing to change the background. Ms. Hamilton has worn different hats and apparently is destined for at least one more in the next novel. I will be waiting to buy it, shelve it and then have the tasty joy of taking it down and reading it. She has been working for The Callahan Group, a wonderful invention but it seems she will be moving on. Or not. Hurry up, Mike, give us another! Recommended.
This is the 3rd and latest installment in the Kay Hamilton series. Kay is upset with her boss, Callahan, and is on her way to resign her position. When she arrives, she finds a robbery in progress and Callahan shot. She is determined to get retribution and find out who is behind this. She unravels the clues to find Chinese spies, the NSA, Pentagon, and FBI. I love Kay's determined nature and smart wit. She is truly a force to be reckoned with. This is a fast read, but kept me on my toes and interested to find out what would happen next.
K street is another impressive instalment in the Kay Hamilton story. This time she is juggling her soon to be ex employer, the CSA and various low light crims. She dispenses K justice with maximum and speedy damage. Her character development just hints at a life: a stunning boyfriend a brilliant daughter who found her recently and loves heart transplants and her belief in truth and justice the K way. A quick but exciting read. I loved it. 4 stars
Kay certainly isn’t the average office type. This was a real rough and tumble novel centered around a no holds barred lady. At more than one point in this work, you want to yell at Kay to just take the money and run! That isn’t her motive, however, she’s just got to exact revenge, but on the bad guys, and ultimately, against a warped “good guy”. I enjoyed it and now we have to wait and see where Kay ends up.
I stumbled upon this series at an adorable used bookshop out of state, knowing nothing about the book or the author but was intrigued by the premise. Kay Hamilton is a strong-willed, smart character and it was an enjoyable ride for the most part. I would recommend the series as an easy-breezy fun read.
For me, this book starts out a little slow, even though there is some action. The last third of the book really got going and I could not put it down. Mr. Lawson tells a great story, so does the other Mr. Lawson!
Just another best-selling episode in the cinematic extremely thrilling story of a renegade detective trouble-shooter. The low-common-denominator of this crap is the technique of telling rather than showing. Characters are superficially attractive or repulsive. Nothing to remember here.
Excellent; Continuing character: Kay Hamilton; when the office of her clandestine employer is attacked and a safe stolen, Hamilton goes after the culprits as both they and those who should be her allies look to keep her from succeeding
I like Kay Hamilton. This is my third book with her and her tough, smart and take no prisoners method. Yet, she's still a sexy female. Int'l intrique, spies, and plenty of murder are in here. Tore through this library book. Read my crime novels.
I usually think about just how many stars I give a book as I’m reading it. This went from •••stars to •••••stars. This was #3 in a series. I normally don’t choose to read a behind the scenes Washington political discourse books. This one was very good.
