What could have been a fun and interesting boardwalk story/murder mystery was more of a too quick lackluster book. The general premise was good, and the granddaughter of a retired detective sounds like it could be very interesting. However everything in this book seemed so superficial. No depth, no plot development. No character development. No background except a brief one or two sentence occasionally. I was disappointed and can not recommend this one. Sorry. :(

The family closes ranks and start investigating

A decent read. Not one of the best. Could have done with a bit more of the Italian fire. The characters were just a touch blasé and I must admit that i have read variations on the plot that had slightly more twists and turns. The murder of a director means that the granddaughter of an ex detective is being held for murder. Even though she was found holding the murder weapon, her story of picking up a prop was understandable. When the police refuse to let her go and seem to have no interest in investigating, the family get involved especially the two daughters of the ex detective. Will they be able to find the real killer?

Highly Irregular

This beach-themed murder mystery appears to be set in the current day but the police procedures are more like the fictional Forties - there aren't many. Suspects and detectives real and self-proclaimed climb around together until faster than you can say ”Hawaii 5-0”, the case is wrapped! Not just fiction but disturbingly irrational. The mention of ”Macbeth” seems to forecast a structure, but the story slides past to an abrupt, easy finale. A few grins along the way but even they don't help this quickie.

This short cozy mystery has a close cast of characters. I thought the book should be a little longer so it could be dev. more. It went by too quickly in my opinion.
