While I like the first one a lot, despite or because of all the efforts put into creating this world, this one falls flat for me. Oh and egad, the cover so doesnt attract me by the way.

There is still a plot of sorts, the adventurous part is very short and for the most part, pretty straight forward though. It also doesnt make sense to me much as the adventure ended up all for naught in the end like a wild goose chase.

The H is likeable but not especially memorable. I didn't get the tortured part as although it is sad, it doesn't really deserve all the cloak and dagger stuffs included his origin. The h is also pretty meh for me as she seems pretty one dimensional, I guess I was a bit biased as she was the shallow spoilt gal in the book bef, though to be fair her actions aren't all that bad then.

I am mostly reading to follow the plot in this one but to be honest, it requires even more of an effort to believe in the actions of the characters here. H and h seem pretty irresponsible and unbelievable to have fallen into bed, knowing what is to happen, and not even caring about the consequences. It also seems weird that sides were blurred and enemies can actually be negotiated with easily. Battles also seem so offhandedly easy and quick, making the whole reason of the adventure incredibly unfathomable.

I guess I will still want to read the third one to see how things panned out, but right off the bat, I am again quite lukewarm towards the 2 main...We shall see

This was a great follow up to the first book, continuing the dramatic world building and the story of a hidden and chaotic otherworld that needs saving. I loved the opposites attract theme, but it was done in a different way. The hero is the emotional one and the heroine finds it hard to express her feelings.
The characters they met on their journey were interesting and there was humor in some of the encounters (I loved the imps and would like to see more of those creatures in future books).
The journey itself was exciting and dramatic and the images of the scenery, especially the Vampire world and then valhalla were well done.
But most of all, I loved Lorcan. He was a charmer with a heart. I liked his warmth and his wit and I loved the way he was with Tanzi. So protective and sexy, but also fun.
I wasn't sure I was going to like Tanzi. She's a spoilt brat at first, but we watch her grow.
I'm looking forward to book three.

I've had the great pleasure of reading Jane Godman's Otherworld Renegade, a paranormal romance. As my regular readers will know, I write PNR and I also read it voraciously, so I was happy receive this book gratis in exchange for a review. Jane Godman has crafted a rich paranormal world, reminiscent of Kresley Cole or Gena Showalter, but with enough unique twists to make it a world unto itself. Fae, necromancers, zombies, and even the devil himself—What more could you want in a paranormal romance? The hero is tough but caring, the heroine has guts and heart, and the love scenes pump out enough steam to keep readers warm on a cold winter's night.

I loved this story and I loved Lorcan! He was so sweet to Tanzi all the time even when she was being a total b*tch. But, yeah, she turned out okay in the end.

Can't wait for Jethro's story. I get the feeling he might be the hottest of them all.

"Godman does a nice job making this paranormal world seem realistic. Her characters — especially Lorcan — are nicely drawn and quite likable" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).
