In the most haunted city on earth, no one disregards the supernatural, especially P.I. Wyatt Thomas and his business partner voodoo mambo Mama Mulate. Wyatt must go on the run when unknown assailants kill his new client moments after hiring him to find who murdered his mother. The ensuing chase involves a Navy submarine, a former King of the Krewe of Rex, members of an elite Russian military detachment, a voodoo-like sect that favors Satanism, Cuban assassins, southern mafia, and a top-secret C.I.A. laboratory situated in the heart of the city’s medical district. Wyatt must evade multiple dangers to uncover the dark secret behind the most bizarre murder in the history of New Orleans.
River Road is the fun, sexy, romantic, and thrilling fifth novel in the popular standalone French Quarter Mystery Series that reads like a collaboration between Charlaine Harris and James Lee Burke.
I love these books. The characters are so real and lovable. Wyatt gets into so much trouble just trying to earn a living. And they go to Cafe Du Monde can't go to NOLA without having beignets from there. These books make me hungry for a visit to the Big Easy.
This was wonderful. There was so much political, an black magic, an a scrumptious twist. I love these books i hope they dont end too soon. Who do you trust, then think again.
This was a really good read. Having been to New Orleans a number of times it was easy to put myself right in the middle of the action. This was a page turner, full of action and fast paced.
Who wouldn't think there was mystery and intrigue in the Big Easy? Wyatt Thomas, cop turned private eye, meets a client at a rather unusual place. A funeral, but even for the Big Easy, this funeral is strange. Jeribeth Briggs, the deceased, is not in a coffin but set up on display like the socialite that she was as though she was waiting for a dance. Wyatt's client comes up behind him with his retainer and the only piece of evidence that he has with the one request, "Find my mother's killer. And don't turn around until I'm gone.". Wyatt takes one look into the envelope and turns to follow Timothy Taggert, he needs more answers before he can start to investigate. Once out on the side walk, he sees Timothy man-handled into a car and yells out for them to stop. They turn and shoot at him and then he wakes in the emergency room. After discharging and headed back to his room and finding it ransacked, he finds that he's on the hook for Timothy's murder AND he still has to find out who kill Dr. Taggert several decades ago. He recruits a few of his trusted friends because, hey, this is New Orleans and it seems that everyone is out to get him already.
This was definitely a page-turner from word go. I could never figure out who was on who's side, or who was after who, or who actually killed Dr. Taggert until the end. This was a fabulous mystery book. I can't wait to try some of the others in the theories.
Wyatt Thomas is asked to investigate fifty year old murder case of Dr. Mary Taggert that's old it's frozen solid. Wyatt's only clue to the murder is a strange doubloon. Wyatt meets a news reporter Lucy Diamond that knows alot about the case but wants nothing to do with Wyatt. As Wyatt and Lucy get more clues to the case only creates more questions than answers. Wyatt asks Tony Nicosa to meet with him since he and Lucy are wanted by the police. Tony asks retired cop named Edna Callahan for help she remembers the case vividly . As Tony and Edna gather further clues to the case hoping to meet somewhere in the middle. Whose behind the murder of Dr. Mary Taggert? Why are Lucy and Wyatt on the run? Can Tony and Edna help Wyatt? Your answers await you in River Road.
The twists and turns in this story really captured my attention. I won't spoil the surprises I left out of the above for your own entertainment. Wyatt is an incredible character to read. The story is compelling, challenging, intriguing, raw, gritty, and unique. I look forward to more stories in this series.
I loved this book and I love this series!!! The mix of characters is great, the atmosphere is thick with everything you every imagined about NOLA and the storyline has as many twists and turns as your average cave passage.
Dig up a Wyatt Thomas novel and settle in with some good coffee and a comfy chair. You will not be sorry
