Emerging criminal defense attorney Sam Young has always known he had a gift. Or a curse. He thinks of them as minor psychic abilities. When Sam is hired by an attractive young nun named Camille Paradisi, he agrees to help discover the identity of a serial killer in order to prevent Camille’s pastor from being exposed for not reporting the man after a confession – thereby allowing another murder to occur. While Sam’s psychic abilities increase as he investigates the case and gets closer to Camille, he realizes that the enigmatic nun is not revealing the complete truth.
Camille shares an old journal anonymously mailed to the church, which she believes may have been authored by the killer/confessor. The journal, which begins in Argentina in the 1940’s, purports to tell the life story of a man with mind control and other special powers who claims to be a descendant of the fallen angels cast out of heaven by God. As Sam learns more about the murders, the journal author, and Camille, he begins to realize the so called “Rosslyn Ripper” case may have ancient implications beyond his imagination.
I absolutely love court room dramas and I have a slightly unhealthy obsession with serial killers that forces me to seek out every information I can get my hands on to understand how their dark twisted mind works. It's curiosity at its best and intrigue at its worst. Blend these two things with a little bit of magical realism and you've me hooked which is what happened with this book. Public defender Sam young has abilities that he doesn't understand himself. Abilities that have given him an edge over his peers. Abilities that he has used, over the years, to his own benefit. These abilities allow him to know the intentions of people, and even lets him somewhat make other people do his own bidding. It's not clear whether its a blessing or a curse but soon his powers are put to test when a nun, Camille Paradisi asks Sam to help Father Andrada. A man came to Father Andrada’s confession claiming to be the Rosslyn Ripper but the pastor never turned the man in and now another woman has become a victim. A serial killer is loose and a pastor is in a comprising position legally. Then a mysterious diary shows up, that binds the present and the past together and Sam finds out that the owner of the diary had similar "psychic powers" as him.
I'd be honest I was really hooked to this from the start because the premise was interesting and the characters were promising and complex. But after a while, specifically the part where the author used the journal as a way to blur the line between past and present, it became a bit tedious and boring. The story picks up the pace again but I wish the obstacle hadn't been there at all because it really broke the flow of the story. Other than that, the plot consists of such mystery that you simply can't predict because anything can happen. It really gave me the kind of rush that a good thriller is supposed to do. The writing style is impressive and has the ability to make the reader completely lose themselves in it. I'd recommend it to all my fellow thriller fanatics.
This is the first time I am reading a book by Christopher Leibig and I am impressed. A legal thriller, sensational court room drama and a serial killer on the loose is what this book offers at its get go.
Criminal Defence attorney Sam Young has taken on a case at the request of Nun Camille Paradisi to help the latter’s Pastor, Father Andrada, in a murder case. Sam is no ordinary attorney. He has certain abilities which he labels as psychic that helps him in his work. However, it is a boon or a curse, is yet to be revealed.
The story is set in Bennett County Virginia and involves a serial killer, who has been named the Rosslyn Ripper. As fate would have it, via several circumstances, the case ends up with Sam. The story is fast paced, the characters complex enough to make the plot interesting, and it is a page turner for sure. There are several twists and turns along with a shocking end.
A serial killer is on the loose in Bennett County, Virginia, having killed three women in three months, and now the Rosslyn Ripper case is about to land in Sam’s lap in a far more personal way than he could have ever imagined. Deputy Public Defender, Sam Young, has always known he was a bit different than his peers. Sam has the ability to know the intentions of a person and also, to give them a nudge to do his bidding when needed. Whether a blessing or a curse, it’s made him one of the best in his profession. His expertise is put to the test when Sister Camille Paradisi asks Sam to help Father Andrada, a longtime friend of his mother’s. A man came to Father Andrada’s confession claiming to be the Rosslyn Ripper, just prior to killing his third victim, which puts Andrada in a tight spot legally. Furthermore, a strange diary has shown up written by someone decades ago who could have a connection to the murderer, with the author sharing the same psychic abilities as Sam. Part tense, legal thriller and part paranormal mystery, the author manages to weave both past and present seamlessly in this smartly plotted tale. ALMOST MORTAL is a combination of rich, complex characters, combined with a quick-pace and high-octane suspense, leading to a downright shocking ending that much like the Sixth Sense, will make you want to start it all over again.
In Bennet County Virginia, defence Attorney Sam Young who doubts he has some kind of psychic abilities is approached by a nun Camille Paradisi to investigate a suspected serial killer who had confessed his crimes to Father Andrada but to keep Father safe from legal works she asks Sam to keep this issue off the official papers for a while, and she offers a journal which was sent to the church anonymously and she doubts is written by the serial killer/confessor which mentions about a life story of a man who has a mind control abilities and some other powers and even claims to be descendants of the fallen Angels, the more Sam gets deep into this case the more he realises that this is not a regular case but is something beyond earthly world.
This book is a legal thriller and I'm super impressed by this, it's been a while since I started exploring thrillers and this book has further increased my love for this genre. This book has everything you want in a thriller, It is fast-paced, the story is interesting I loved the plot and as the synopsis already hints there is a touch of fantasy, I loved the characters and how this book progress and further intensify the suspense is amazing.
Will recommend it for thriller lovers and for those too who want to try this genre.
➸ I was gifted a copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review.
Sam Young, an up-and-coming defense attorney with psychic abilities, finds himself caught up in the investigation of a serial killer when a young nun named Camille Paradisi approaches him outside the courthouse one evening. Camille also shares journal entries that have been showing up piecemeal at the church that she believes could have been penned by the killer. The journal begins in the 1940's, Argentina, and tells the life story of a person who claims to have mind control and to be the descendant of fallen angels cast out of heaven by God. Identifying the killer could put the pastor at the church at risk if they can't find the murderer before he kills again.
When I was asked to read and review this book I was bit on the fence about it. Legal thrillers are not normally my jam but with the supernatural addition I thought it might be something I'd enjoy. To my welcome surprise I really, really liked this book. Our main character Sam is likable, funny, smart, and enterprising. As we follow Sam through the day to day of being a lawyer we are introduced to a multitude of diverse and interesting characters. At the time I thought that while interesting, meeting all these people seemed to be just filler and not actually necessary to the story. But I was quite wrong on that front. You don't know it at the time but all the relationships Sam is cultivating with his clients become quite relevant later on in the book. I was actually impressed with the way the author brought the story full circle with details I didn't even realize were important at the time. One of the major strengths of this novel is definitely the characters and being a character-driven reader this really appealed to me.
A couple other aspects I really liked about this story was the writing style and expertise. The author, Christopher Leibig, is a criminal defense lawyer with a postgraduate degree in forensics and it really shows. He was able to make this story more realistic and interesting with his intimate knowledge on the subject. He also wrote in a way that didn't bore the reader to tears with all the forensic jargon. I quite liked the time spent in court and talking about evidence; two things I never really thought were capable of entertaining me on any real level. On another note, I find that most books I really like usually have some humor in them so it'll be no surprise that I found our main character to be pretty funny in a dry way. I found myself smiling a lot during the dialogue bits.
So, what took off a star? In the beginning of the book when we are first being introduced to characters, I found that the authors way of describing women and overweight people to be insensitive and unattractive. When the nun, Camille, came into the picture the descriptions used to describe her were a bit too sexual for my taste especially given her life choice. He also emphasized her attractive and youthful appearance as if only old and unattractive women could be a nun. A short time later we meet an overweight woman who was described using words like "huge" and "colossal". The main character did treat the women with empathy and caring but the insensitive way of describing them didn't sit well with me and this may turn off some readers, especially those who consider themselves to be overweight. Looking back I really don't think the author meant anything derogatory by the way these characters were written and hopefully his future books will be written with more sensitivity in that department.
That is really the only criticism I have for this book. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this and will be picking up the sequel, Almost Damned, very soon. I'm very curious to see where this story will go next. I recommend this to both legal thriller and fantasy fans. And if you're like me who normally wouldn't read something like this but are intrigued? Give it a go! You won't be disappointed. *********
Wohoo! Here comes another Mystery thriller that adds on to my already flourishing (which I hope it is) list. This is the 1st book of the series. I have already read and reviewed the 2nd book of the series, 'Almost Damned' ( which if you haven't been through yet, do go for it now). That is the reason why I had to rad this one too. It for sure didn't disappoint me.
Samson Young, a criminal defence attorney and our main character is born with a knack for solving crime mysteries. Whether this skill of it is a gift or a curse is still an unsolved mystery🤔.
There are murders occuring and the killer is on run. A nun, Camille Paradisi approaches and hires him to discover the identity of the serial killer. This is to protect a Pastor who had apparently heard the killer's confession and yet didn't inform the cops leading for another murder. However, as Sam later realizes that Camille might not be saying the entire truth. What and why is for the reader to read.
Later they go through the writtings of an old journal mailed anonymously to the church which the nun believes belongs to the killer. Whats written inside is even bizzare and unbelievable. As he dives deeper into the case, Sam theres a lot more to the case than that meets the eye. His psychic powers help him come across and learn things that are beyond imagination.
Theres a lot of drama in the story that adds spice to the aready edgy mystery and thriller elements. The story is fast paced and definitely keeps one hooked. The twists and turns give you a good adrenaline rush that keeps your curiosity piqued throughout.
A criminal defence lawyer himself, the author sure is quite imaginative with of his field😀. He knows his field well and is good at adding the right amount of all the elements at the right point. Great plot. Great job with narration. Its a thubs up from me👍.
Sam Young is an emerging criminal defense attorney that only takes cases from the public defender’s office. He’s good at his job, but he knows it is because of these minor psychic abilities that he has developed. Those that work with him just know that he knows when he says something is going to turn out a certain way. When a nun named Camille Paradisi contacts him regarding the identity of a serial killer on the loose, who regularly comes into confession, things begin to take on a different turn. Camille wants to protect her priest and gives Sam an anonymous journal that she believes was written by the serial killer. As Sam reads the journal, he begins to discover there is more to Camille than meets the eye, as well as himself.
Most of this book entails building the world and setting up the characters for this story. The premise of the book is very interesting and there is plenty of both courtroom drama as well as supernatural experiences. Readers will need to pay attention to really understand what is going on with Camille and Sam as it becomes especially important in the next book. Basically, it feels like this book was pretty much just written to set up the second book in the series. Readers will need to start with this one to get the background to make the second book really fall into place.
There is a lot of foul language throughout the book as well as multiple implied sex scenes, though nothing is graphic. This book is recommended for mature audiences.
I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.
I love legal thrillers and especially courtroom dramas. I've maniacally read and finished all the James Patterson novels I had. Then I came across Steve Cavanaugh, I'd pull all nighters and sleep after reading the whole book. Ian Rankin, Jeffrey Deaver, Jeffrey Archer, Lee Child are all my favourite authors.
When I saw the blurb of Almost Mortal I was thrilled beyond words, because it is an amalgamation of all the legal thrillers I adore plus something entirely unusual. I had to get a copy ASAP. Sabrina and Chris very kindly mailed me a copy alongwith the sequel to Almost Mortal that was coming up soon.
Sam Young is a public defender, he has ablities that are unusual, abilities that give him an edge over others, abilities that he can use to read minds and to make people do what he wants them to.
A psychopath killer is on the loose, a woman is brutally murdered. This killer had once gone to a church and confessed his crimes. But under the circumstances the Pastor hadn't reported it to the police. The Pastor is in an extremely difficult and dangerous position. Sam Young is asked to deal with this case. A few unexpected turns later he comes across a diary, as the story unfolds the realisation that the person who entered his daily accounts in the diary has powers similar to his dawns on him.
High on intrigue, fast paced, keeps you on your toes– the words that describe Almost Mortal the best.
"Almost Mortal" by Christopher Leibig is a crime-thriller that revolves around the protagonist of the story Sam Young, a criminal defence lawyer. Samson has a psychic ability to read the minds of the people which gave him an edge over others. One day, Camille Paradisi, a nun of the Holy Angels Church, came to meet and told him that she and the father of the church, Father Andriana doubts that a psychopath serial killer, Rosslyn Ripper, came to confess in the church and also sends some confessional journals to the church. She hires him to help her find the serial killer, but the twist comes when Samson started thinking of the character of Camellia and father Andriana as shady.
The plot is full of courtroom drama and suspense which will keep you hooked through the story. Initially, I felt the story was slow-paced and was not enjoying it much, but after completing half of the story, I started enjoying the story and was excited to finish off the book and to start the other book in this series that is Almost dammed. This crime thriller is like a roller coaster ride.
Whether Samson will be successful in finding the serial killer? Whether the journals were written by the serial killer only? Whether Camillia and Father Andriana are hiding something? What is going to be the result of investing in a case of a serial killer? To know the answer to all these questions, you need to read the first book.
Do read and don't forget to share your views in the comment section.
This is the book one in the series. The book has is inspired from the author's personal experiences and knowledge of legal field which adds beauty to the plot. The story has the elements of suspense and thriller along with supernatural elements too. The book gives the readers a amazing blend of these genre in form of a well paced plot. The plot begins with the criminal defense attorney, Sam Young meets an attractive young nun named Camille Paradisi and agrees to help her find the person who confessed to be a murder to her. As any ordinary criminal advocate, he starts his investigation regarding the facts and information related to his case but this isn't an ordinary case that will be so easy to solve. While investigating, he comes across unexpected clues and proofs which let all the information fall into place leading him to a progress in the investigation of this case. Each mystery is being layered well and the facts and clues gives goosebumps too. As this is a mystery binded with supernatural elements too, it has too much of suspense in it. There are many characters involved in the book yet the author has well penned each character. Each character has its own share of contribution to the plot which wa s a nice thing. The book is well paced and the plot has been layered amazingly with suspense and mystery. The narration of the plot is kept simple and easy making it an interesting read for all.
The Story: Almost Mortal tells the story of public defender Sam Young who possesses some psychic abilities. He is hired by Camille Paradisi, an attractive young nun of the Holy Angels Church, to help Father Andrada in a legal matter. Father Andrada suspects that serial killer Rosslyn Ripper has made confession to him and send him some journals but he did not inform the authority and the killer strikes again. As Sam delves deeper into the case, he begins to realize that both Father Andrada and Camille may not be who they claimed to be.
My thoughts: This was an intriguing legal thriller with a supernatural twist. I liked reading the different cases Sam handled and it was interesting to read the courtroom drama. The journals were another interesting part of the story since this is where part of the mystery lies. The pace in the story was pretty steady throughout the book although some parts dragged on a bit.
I liked the story overall, but at times I did lose my focus as to what the main plot was due to the many side cases in this book. I personally felt that most of the story in this first book of this series consists of world building and introducing characters, and for this, I am looking forward to reading the next book.
***Thank you Sabrina Dax PR and author Christopher Leibig for this gifted copy to read and review. All opinions expressed are my own.***
It’s a legal thriller. I like thriller genre books as it always keeps me attentive while reading. I will superficially summarise the blurb or else further discuss will lead to spoilers. The protagonist of the story is Sam Young. The story starts in August 2015 in Havana, Cuba. A film was well appreciated by audience that was based on an assassin. Sam Young is a criminal defence attorney. He is a public defender. He possessed a unique gift. He has a minor psychic ability and he used this ability to help people and his cases. Later he hired a young and charming nun named Camille Paradisi. But in order to prevent her pastor. He agreed to help her discovering serial killer but that lead to an another murder. The plot gets more complex following it. Read the book to unfold further. I loved the plot. It’s unique, fictional and filled with drama. That made it perfect plot. And as mentioned in the beginning as fictional plan but I believe this can make a good movie plot. The narration style of the author is captivating. It’s difficult to put it down once you started. I liked the language and vocabulary used by the author. The plot is filled with some good twists and turns. It’s quite interesting read. Recommended from my side.

Heart throbbing awestruck thriller. The mastermind of the author has expressed through this thriller. The crime hunting intriguing case gives a page-turning story. The plot and the characters are built vigorously. I have stunned while solving the hints of the case.
Almost Mortal by Christopher Leibig is a thriller story with great suspense.
The book is stunning like reading a Sherlock Holmes adventure.
The book contains 27 chapters. Sam Young, an attorney, is a person who has the ability to solve cases, no idea whether it is a gift or a curse.
A woman was killed by a psycopath. This killer had confessed the truth in church.
Sam young is hired by Camille Paradise to help her in catching the serial killer. She works at the Church of Holy Angels. Sam Young is known for his special abilities which helps him in solving the cases. When he moves forward in the case, he realizes that many plots of the story are not told to him.
With the clock against him Sam must find a way to break through an invincible barrier Camille has built around her priest and access the information needed to nab the killer.
The only clue she’s willing to give is a time-worn journal left at the church.
Cynical, self-destructive and heroic to a fault, Sam Young is a modern-day detective of the society.
Can he solve the mystery at all? Read the novel to know more.
Samson Young, a deputy Public Defender has extraordinary abilities to understand the human mind and thoughts and influence them. A serial killer, named Rosalyn Ripper, who had committed three murders and Sam gets involved in the case. The book revolves around how Sam unravels the mysteries and secrets and solves the case.
. . . .
The book is a legal thriller having suspense, supernatural themes, thrill, secrets, mysteries, investigations, forensic investigations all in one. The book is well written with a simple language and a nice plot. There is a sequel to the book so this one mainly consisted of character development and building of background story. At some points I got bored with the unnecessary details which is a set back for a thriller. But overall it was a good engaging read if you can overlook that part.P
Having never read about a Legal Thriller before, this book was somehwat of a novelty for me as it was quite distinctive from the other stories that I have come across prior to.
In the book: ‘‘Almost Mortal’’ by Christopher Leibig, we are introduced to Deputy Public Defender Sam Young, having an exceptional dexterity that gives him somewhat of an edge over his peers, who comes across a nun asking him for his help. All is not as simple as it looks, because there is a twist in the way which Camille has kept the secret regarding the case and it slowly unfolds as the story progresses over time.
Alongwith this case, there are also a multitude of side cases that are going on, which keeps the readers on the edge of their seats, always thinking about what is to come next.
This book had quite a bit of court-room drama vibes alongwith a touch of Supernatural elements of sort. There was never a dull moment throughout the entire story and the mystery was not something we could have guessed, and it kept me easily entertained right through. Hence, I am going to give this book FIVE MORTAL STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
✓Synopsis: Sam Young, a criminal defense attorney, who has psychic abilities has been hired by Camille Paradiso, a nun, to investigate and identify a serial killer on loose. Is the nun hiding something? Is the killer a normal human being or something much more?
✓I loved it. The story revolves around a legal framework and has elements of fantasy. The concept was very new to me. It was a very interesting read. The thrill and suspense build up is incredible. I finished it in one sitting. This is the prequel to Almost Damned book. Coming back to this book, this was incredibly intriguing. The twists kept coming till the end. I picked up this book because a legal thriller with elements of fantasy sounded quite good to me and trust me I'm glad I decided to read this. Highly recommended!
Original, gripping crime thriller that is also part court room Drama and part fantasy. It’s twisty, pacy, enjoyable and I can’t wait to read the sequel.
I received a free copy of Almost Mortal in exchange for an honest review.
Almost Mortal is a speedy legal thriller that follows Public Defense Attorney, Sam Young who manages to never lose. He always gets the outcome he wants. One day, he’s approached by a nun who wants his help to discover the identity of the city’s current serial killer as well as sharing a journal that she believes is connected to the serial killer.
Just knowing that small basic information this book seems like a standard legal thriller. But this book has won an award in the genre, Paranormal. Okay, now I’m even more intrigued. I love books with paranormal shit.
We see Sam has this uncanny ability to know what others are thinking or feeling. This allows him to tell if someone is not being entirely truthful. And this journal the nun shares with him dates back all the way to the 1940s describing similar mind abilities that Sam experiences. This journal was honestly my favorite parts of the book. Most of my theories came from these sections and the details I learned within each of the entries. In the end, I was right in theory.
This flows really well as we follow Sam throughout. There was never a dull moment, something was always happening and every case Sam touched on managed to link itself to the ending in some way or another. It was interesting seeing all those tiny details play out in the end.
This book packs a punch. Sam Young is a criminal defense attorney and boy, is he busy. We have the big case of the book: the serial killer known as the Rosslyn Ripper. We have half a dozen smaller criminal cases going on in orbit around that one. And we have a mysterious nun and a secretive priest in possession of a dark and disturbing journal that may belong to the Rosslyn Ripper or may belong to someone else entirely.
Juggling all these cases in your mind makes the reader's head spin a bit, and I think that's intentional. Sam Young is running from one crisis to another and we're running right along with him.
This book is mainly what it claims to be on the front cover: a legal thriller. Think police procedural only it's a lawyer instead of a cop and his ways aren't exactly always legal. Young has a whole mess of helpers; more than a few who are living on the shady side.
But what interested me in this book in the first place was its promise of something a little supernatural amidst all the crime and DNA. And there is a little bit. Not a lot - not yet. Young has the ability to nudge his way into people's minds a bit, get an honest read on them, sometimes push them in the direction of the decisions he wants them to make. Most of the strange stuff, however, happens in a crazy fast half-reveal in the last fifteen or so pages of the book. I had to stop and go back over everything in my mind to get it all (I think) straight. And what it leads up to is the promise of a great series featuring Sam Young and a few others. Others who might be descended from fallen angels. Or might...be fallen angels? Anyway they don't seem to be able to die and they have some freaky powers similar to Sam's, so...we shall see. I'm looking forward to the second book and crossing my fingers that there might be a whole series in the works.
‘Almost Mortal’ by Christopher Leibig is a book which revolves around Sam a lawyer who is blessed with a power which somehow helps him in solving cases. So, there a lot of mysterious murder taking place and Sam is appointed to find out who exactly is behind all this. As the investigation proceeds there is a hidden truth which is waiting come out and leaves everyone shocked. To know about these shocking revelations read 'Almost Mortals'
The plot is full of suspense and will keep the readers at the edge throughout the book.
Characters are well developed. Sam is really dedicated towards all the cases he has and wants to solve them. The readers will sometimes feel if the ability that Sam has is a gift or a curse.
Narration is nicely done and the pace of the book is also nice. Book cover is interesting with a DNA strand which will make the readers curious. The title of the book is also apt to the plot.
Overall, it was a very interesting read and I would surely recommend it to all.
A legal thriller I had so much fun reading. It was unforeseeable and clever and full of twists. Also, I found the protagonist as thrilling as the plot. Sam Young is an emerging criminal defense attorney who have a gift or curse that he thinks are minor psychic abilities. When Sam is hired by an attractive young nun named Camille Paradisi, he agrees to help discover the identity of a serial killer in order to prevent Camille’s pastor from being exposed for not reporting the man after a confession – thereby allowing another murder to occur. While investigating the case, Sam's psychic abilities improve and many truths are revealed. My curiosity was piqued from the first chapter. I was intrigued but only if the book was a bit short. It gets boring in the middle ( which sadly sucks most of the joy out of thrillers). Otherwise it was a perfect book with mysterious vibes. The narration was flowing smoothy and I really liked the author's writing style.
This is a very well written murder mystery! I loved the constant suspense provided through brilliant writing. This is a smooth read with perfect editing. The characters are very well developed, and every reader will relate to, at least one of the characters; personally, I connected to three different characters.
Almost Mortal is 235 pages, so it isn’t a really short book, but the suspense made it an extremely quick read; it’s next to impossible to put down! I highly recommend this to anyone who loves great stories! Seriously! What could be better than a “not very religious” public attorney working for his court appointed cases; while also taking on “side cases” for high profile criminals, gamblers, crack dealers, drug users, a Catholic Priest, and a nun,? There is so much more I could say, but not without giving away significant parts of the story. There are so many surprising characters with so many twists; you’ll feel like you’re driving through San Francisco!
I give Leibig a 5 Boundless star rating, with complete confidence that it is genuinely earned for writing Almost Mortal. I look forward to rating his second book in this series....Beth
ALMOSTMORTAL- A legal thriller" by Christopher Leibig.
It is full of suspense, mystery, court room drama and complexities throughout. This is a very well written murder mystery! I loved the story because how real it felt. At first, it was hard to get into. Everything is so unpredictable. 😌I absolutely love a well-written thriller and this book did not disappoint. The highlight of this book was the writing style & expertise. The author is a criminal defense lawyer and his intimate knowledge really came through in the writing. The courtroom drama and the legal scenes are brilliantly depicted in the book without boring the readers. This is book 1 of the duology and has a sequel named "ALMOST DAMNED'.I would say that the book is been written very beautifully ❤️ and it is well developed book in narration as well as characters. The characters are rich and complex and the author did not dump long paragraphs of information which I really appreciated. Sam, our protagonist, is smart, intelligent and has a dry sense of humour which I quite liked.🤩
I highly recommend this book to everyone. Do give this is book a read to uncover all the dark secrets that are hidden in the 📚 book. Happy reading 📚!
This book was given to me by the publicist. This is a legal thriller about a public defender, Sam Young, who "illegally" takes clients on the side. There was plenty of courtroom drama involving different cases, but what set this book apart, is a journal Sam receives detailing the life of a teenager in 1950s Argentina. The writer and younger brother escape an abusive home, find there way to Cuba fighting with Che Guevara for Fidel Castro, and eventually onto Miami. Sam was told this journal had ties to a serial killer in the area, and Sam investigates the legitimacy of this journal. If this is accurate, the writer would be in their 70's and not a likely suspect for a serial killer. There is a lot of DNA talk in this story, but it all ties in to the mortality of the surrounding characters.
Best Read in a very long time! A non-stop intriguing must-read!
Thank you for the rich and robust characters you so diligently crafted. Thank you for transcending me into the sidelines of the read which was where the true story held my attention. No, I could not even attempt to put this down!! Before I look, please tell me there a book that follows ... And follows ... And follows!!!
I rarely pick up mystery/thriller novels but this one caught my attention. It keeps a reader hooked throughout with the gripping storyline and it's many twists and turns, and catchy title. Would definitely recommend.

The nun, Camille Paradisi, tells Sam that father Andrada (his mother's friend) is in a big problem and only Sam can help him!!
On further conversation, she reveals that sometimes back a serial killer came to Father and confessed his crimes.
By his way of telling things and emotions, it seemed like he really wanted to change.
So, Father Andrada tried to guide him.

🔷What I liked the most in it:-
1️⃣. First of all, the author, Chris, has come up with a great concept.
This story has everything a reader can ask for
Amazing action, characters.... life lessons, or a jaw-dropping suspense. It has everything!!
2️⃣. The way he has introduced us to so many things and aspects of our lives is really impressive.
Unlike usual stories, this one has an unbelievable power of attention-grabbing and giving us a roller coaster ride of emotions.
3️⃣. The way of writing, the character development, or presenting so many situations, everything is great.
Sam's character is like a combination of Harvey and Patrick. I loved reading it. However....
4️⃣. What amazes me is that by giving it a standard start, the author has created such mind-blowing suspense in this book.
And the part where the mystical powers came made it more interesting.
5️⃣. But still, hat's off to the beautiful ending we have been blessed with. It was such a goosebump-giving moment.
Man! I am still thinking about it

REVIEW
The story revolves between a journal and three muder cases of females. Sam Young was in charge of these cases. The story has lots of twists and turns and many revelations. Camille Paradisi gave Sam a journal that she found in Church. Camille stated that Father Andarada knew the culprit and he had forgiven him once thinking he is changed. She don't want the Father's reputation get affected and asked Sam to deal with it wisely. Sam suspected that journal to be of Rosslyn Ripper. He planned many things to find the culprit. DNA testing by electrophoresis was performed by Juliana the scientist. While reading this book I found it a bit complex as there are involvement of many characters which could be desribed in a better way. However the writing style of author is fine. It has a huge content that's why it took me around three sittings to finish this book. I would suggest you to read this book slowly for better understanding. The cover of the book is beautiful and suits the genre. The title is suitable. If you are someone who love legal thrillers and court dramas, you can definitely check this out.
