Colby Until I pissed Lloyd off, I'd always thought that the Omega Auctions were an urban myth, something that packs used to scare Omegas into obeying. As it turns out, not so much. When Lloyd and Ivan delivered me to the auction house, it was immediately clear that shit had just gotten real. I could only guess at what Lloyd had written on my intake forms, but it was obvious that these people believed I was dangerous.
Rafe "Usually only one reason that an Alpha buys someone like me." Colby had said. I watched the emotions flitting through eyes on a face set like stone and considered his words. Colby might be bigger, stronger, and, yeah, tougher than most Omegas but he was still an Omega. An unbonded Omega with no pack. An Omega who thought that the differences that set him apart, the differences that made my wolf scream with the need to claim him, meant that he'd stay that way.
Warning for violent, non-consensual acts. This book does feature a strong hurt/comfort theme that involves references (non-explicit) to a violent rape.

This started out strong, with Alpha Rafe finding his perfect Omega match in Colby while shopping at the Omega Auction.
I liked that Colby was in contrast to all things usually expected of an Omega. He is big and strong and mouthy; there isn’t a submissive bone in his body. Luckily Rafe is looking for a mate with all these qualities and after searching for years he finally finds his perfect match in Colby.
This was all going so well, with the abnormal Alpha/Omega dynamics providing a refreshing change of pace, and a secondary storyline involving an Omega kidnapping ring. But, unfortunately for me, the story took a major turn around the midway mark and I just couldn’t bounce back after the events that transpired.
I’m intrigued by what will happen in future books, as several characters of interest have been introduced already. Even though I had some issues with particular plot points in this story, I enjoyed it overall. I like the A/B/O world Rhodes has created here and will likely move forward to try more within this series in the future.
Buyer Beware is even better than the first book in the series! Claws fully sunk in. The universe/world building is coming together with its inter species prejudice, pack councils, omega auctions, wolf trafficking, cage matches to the death. It's all very barbaric, antiquated and animalistic. The Omega Auction Chronicles has quite a few dark scenes, I'm rescinding my thoughts on this being a feel-good series. I'm loving the introduction to other packs and this interwoven community. It's very smooth. Despite, at first feeling like I got dropped into an unknown world. I do enjoy world building like this where it catches you unaware and you realize you've found out quite a bit without a bunch of info-dump but through dialogue, setting and action. The Blood Valley Pack are unlike most pack. Motorcycle gang, enforcers, private investigators. They're a tough, rough, rowdy bunch. So I wasn't too surprised when their Alpha, Rafe, behaves abhorrently towards his love interest, Colby, after a moment of insecurity and self-doubt about his own sexual prowess *rolls eyes*. They're all the kind of wolves that require tragedy and heroics to give respect and acknowledge their emotions. Plenty of macho posturing from Beta, Omega, and Alpha's alike in this one. And it was deliciously dramatic. Colby was a breath of fresh air in the omegaverse. Big, tough, relentless, unbreakable, aggressive and the auction folks couldn't wait to get rid of the omega unlike any other omegas. But he's just what the growly, motorcycle riding baddass Alpha needs in his life. A partner, an equal.
This was all highly entertaining and addictive. Now I desperately need to know what's going to happen with the pregnant Omega, Kenny, who was absconded from his home under false pretenses.
Continuing on with my addictive crisps habit (Lorraine, that one’s for you)...I picked the second book in this series as soon as I finished the first. (I listened to both).
This one started a bit darker than the first. We are at the omega auction—the exact same one as in book one—but we have a different buyer: Rafe. He’s the alpha of a biker wolf pack. He’s also an enforcer for the shifter council. He’s at the auction taking a looksie, but doubts he’ll find an omega to fit his specifications. He wants someone big, tough, and not submissive. So basically an alpha who can get preggers.
Guess what? That’s right boys and girls, Rafe finds exactly what he’s been looking for: Omega Colby. He just so happens to be chained down, gagged, opened by a hollow butt plug (ya know...so you can check out the goods) and in a cage for viewing and inspection. He’s just that dangerous.
Rafe buys him. Colby doesn’t bite any body parts off of him (although he has in the past, and will do so in the future—just not Rafe’s)..
And here is where the story went kinda weird. Colby was this chained up badass, and then he gets all weirdly submissive for a good chunk of the book, and then he’s back again in badass mode. He was an inconsistent character that I didn’t know how to handle. (Like a bag of low-sodium crisps—god forbid!).
There’s also an omega knapping plot. Cage fighting. Motorcycle sex (just think of the vibrations a Harley puts out!), stupid miscommunication, and an HEA.
Anyhooo....this story was longer than the first, more complex but also sometimes scattered. We get to see Clint and Trevor from book #1, and Trevor is the happiest werewolf omega ever, pregnant with twins.
Oh....I forgot....have you ever wanted to see a big, bad, wolf alpha lose his cherry to his omega? You got it here, folks. Now that’s what I call equality and balance in an alpha-omega relationship!
I’ll keep reading, eating my way through this addictive series like a horde of teenage boys let loose in a convenience store.
So, I'm just going to set the multiple editing errors (names mixed up, missing punctuation, grammar issues) aside.
My biggest complaint is that I was absolutely flummoxed by the fact that Colby is brutally gang raped (off page, but described later), with what seemed like absolutely no psychological aftereffects. At all.
Say what now?
Seriously. Not even seventy-two hours after the event and he is begging for sex with his alpha.
Huh?
Rafe never even really seems to talk or comfort Colby after the rape.
Moreover, I was annoyed by several plot threads left dangling (the water, Jack, the Omegas, Althea, Kenny), and that quite a few situations were described after the fact leading to a feeling of being told and not shown.
The story has multiple POV, but frankly, the POV changed so often and between so many that in the end I was left feeling like I didn't really get to know any of the characters that well.
I'll continue on with the series, but I was disappointed with this story.
I was looking forward to a really good hurt/comfort story and it simply did not deliver.
I really enjoyed this second book in omega auction series too. I was thinking the story line will be very similar with the first one but it was surprisingly different.
This is a unique book because there are a lot of POVs in this novel. The novel is well constructed but a bit heavy on the emotional side. I love both MCs and I was very happy that Colby finally was able to accept his self and willingly be claimed by alpha Rafe. This book also ignited a lot of possible outcomes for the future books in the series and I can’t wait to find out about what happens to those kidnapped omegas.
The only reason I gave only 3.5 stars to this book is because I really feel like there are a bit too much of unnecessary emotional scenes in the novel. Nonetheless, I thorough enjoyed this book and will continue to read all the books in the series.
I'll admit it... I'm addicted to this story. I enjoyed this one more than the first, and I love how all the stories are interconnected and we get to see the same event from multiple points-of-view. The author is doing a good job with this one.
3.5* This is a much more rounded out story than book one and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Both Rafe and Colby were excellently drawn characters and I really liked that Colby wasn't a traditional passive omega.
I liked the back story to this one as well and I was pleased to see the link in with the werewolves of book one continued in this book.
Good pacing, a bit more world development and a seriously hot cover.
What a stupid book! I had such high expectations about this series! (Too high, apparently). There are so many good reviews out there, and my friends rec'ed it and always when RL gets too much, I turn to easy, fluffy and sweet Alpha/Omega books...
This week has been a bitch so I left my 2 unfinished (great) books to indulge in some wolfy smut... Book 1, Soul Mate for Sale, was so so, but it was very short so I let it be. Book 2, Buyer Beware is full-length and it's no better than the previous one. I can't even compare it to other "simple", almost PWP, Alpha/Omega series I've read and enjoyed very much (eg. a few by Marcy Jacks), let alone something like The Rogue Pack by Samantha Cayto... I wanted to get through to dragon shifters in The Omega Auction Chronicles series, cause this universe is full of all kinds/races of Alphas and Omegas, but now I simply don't know if I should continue...
Ok, I'll state what I didn't like only. That'll be easier.
- I loved the idea of a strong, almost-like-Beta-big Omega and the first few scenes promised that Colby would be one of my fave Omega wolves ever. But he jumped from being defiant and strong-willed to pliant and c*ck-craving in a few pages...
- BEWARE! Major spoiler ahead, but I won't hide/tag it as it is clearly mentioned in the blurb warnings: After Colby got gang-banged his Alpha, Rafe didn't even try to listen to his explanations about why he reeked of other shifters. And then, after Colby left and his injured wolf unconsciously shied away from Rafe's touch... What did Colby do after he regained consciousness and could shift back to human form?? He urged Rafe to have sex with him! I mean, WTF?!
- the plot, and the stolen Omegas subplot, were nonsensical... As if it was a web-book, published weekly and the Author changed her mind about what to do with the storyline "on the go"... Whiner and Colby find the stolen Omegas and afterwards they do nothing... They arrest Colby's rapists and, again, do nothing about the Omegas... What's more, their kidnappers don't do anything, either! Even after they were discovered. Were they so dumb?! That's the main issue, but there were a few more.
All in all, I give this book 2.5 stars rounded down cause I wouldn't do justice to other A/O stories I've read and enjoyed if I gave it a higher rating. If it was a simple insta-love, wolfy, growly smut without so much angst and so many subplots and twists, I would be a happier camper ;)
As I already mentioned after part 1 of this series I am not generally very interested in shifter stories. Usually, I don`t enjoy it, especially if it involves men getting pregnant, I find that rather absurd. However sometimes a book comes along, that is interesting in spite of my reservations and this series definitely is such an exception! Colby is a troublemaker, or so he is told again and again until his Alpha sends him to the Auction house, where Rafe is looking for an Omega. From the beginning, it is clear that those 2 are a good fit and watching them coping with their insecurities and misunderstandings is great fun. To keep the story going, a little thriller about kidnapped Omegas is thrown in and we meet the M/C`s of the first part in this series again. I really loved that they were not only mentioned shortly but played an active and important part in the story. Again this was an interesting book with great characters and I think the summary is, it doesn`t matter if you read about wolf shifters, aliens or next door neighbors, as long as the story and the writing are good, it is perfect. In this series, that was definitely the case and I rate it 4 stars and definitely recommend it!
Great story with a different kind of omega. Rafe is an alpha looking for a different sort of omega, not some delicate little thing who's completely meek and submissive. Colby looks all alpha and can definitely handle himself, but he shocked everyone by being an omega. Colby is wary of his new alpha and has a huge chip on his shoulder against the world. The new pack isn't exactly welcoming either. There are lots of things stacked against this couple and each of them has times that they want to call it off before bonding, but something keeps them together, keeps them trying. This was where the story really shone, in how real their struggles to be a couple were. I really liked Rafe (with the exception of one horrible misunderstanding and betrayal--not cheating) and found him an admirable kind of alpha. Colby was harder to love just because could be so combative. Their chemistry was sizzling and the sex was scorching hot. We also got a nice look at Clint and Trevor (so sweet!). The one thing that I would caution readers about is a violent sexual assault that happens. It's pretty much "off stage" but still shocking and disturbing. This was such a good book that, although I can read it KU anytime, I went back and bought it in order not to lose it and to have it to remind me for rereads.
I am really liking this series thus far. The MC's in he book are likable, however it would be nice to know more of Rafe's background. Trev and Clint are brought back in and I really like how the first book and second tie together. Given this, I cannot wait to see what will develop with the "water" (sorry don't want to spoil anything) and Jack.
I cannot wait to see what the next book brings in the series. The only complaint I have is there was a little bit of name mix-ups in at least two areas that I can remember and some grammar issues.
I feel torn about this follow up in the series. The first book was very sugar sweet and was a surface romance (which is very okay and was a good book); however, this book was the same way. The problem was that the subject matter was darker and did really lend to the lightness of the writing. Without giving spoilers, what happened to the MC's was way to dark to just be glosssed over. And the fact that there was zero after effects. I couldn't get past that and rest of the book suffered to me for that. I would have loved to give it hight but everything was just too glossed over.
I think I’d classify this as brain-candy. That’s not a bad thing. Alpha and omega relationship. This was a kickass omega, something I truly feel is an awesome thing to see. Wait, what about the poisoned bottled water? I think this is how the author moves to the next installment. Snappy way to introduce future characters.
Super cute Omegas are delightful, I'll not deny it, but my goodness it's even better if they are a badass and riding a Harley. Am I right?
Colby is no typical Omega - he would like to be, but he just can't manage the role and the strictures that shifter society applies. People may easily mistake him for an Alpha due to his size and attitude. As a result, his self-worth has taken a kicking both emotionally and physically. Humiliatingly, Colby finds himself gagged, bound and caged and in the metaphorical bargain basement of the Omega auction.
By chance, Rafe is at the auction tracking down missing Omegas. The Alpha knows that an Omega in his own pack would be a bonus too, however he needs someone who can fit in and not be intimidated by his pack of tough motor bike riding enforcers. Rafe thinks Colby could be just the one.
The rest of Rafe's pack isn't so sure. Even Colby isn't sure, but he has enough spirit and energy to try to find his place. Colby is practical, has a can-do attitude and a willingness to please (thanks to his omega attributes).
He knows that life as a lone-wolf Omega is too dangerous to be an option, but he finds it hard to believe any pack would want him and indeed Rafe's pack aren't as welcoming as their Alpha.
Despite their tough guy appearance, both Rafe and Colby are have mutual insecurities to deal with, and the fact that Rafe's old flame Jack is back in town does not help. Meanwhile the pack is working hard to solve who is behind the Omega smuggling ring.
I love this story, I could hardly put it down. Don't get me wrong it's far from brilliant, but it is fairly gripping and terribly sweet along with the darker themes it explores. I was charmed by the two MCs and their swagger and heart and cheering them on to their happy ending (when Colby is gravely injured in a gang attack, and Rafe makes a serious error of judgment all could be lost).
Buyer Beware deftly merges characters and plots from the previous (and future books), and I know already that I am going to be spending some time with these shifters. I am already clearing my schedule.
Recommended for those who like a fairly light shifter story with attitude.
Spoiler Ahead This was book two in the"Omega Auction" series. Colby is not like the average Omega he is big and not very submissive and for this reason his former Alpha Lloyd has decided to get rid of him because he couldn't make Colby submit to him so Colby remained a virgin. Rafe was looking for an omega that fit in with his pack he knew so while at the auction house to recue a stolen omega he told them what he was looking for and when he saw Colby he knew that he has found his omega. This was a really good book Colby had a chip on his shoulder he had to prove to the pack that he is not a push over and when one of the packs Betas Whiner touched him he broke his nose and he proved to Rafe that he was just what the pack needed. Rafe and Colby went through a lot of ups and downs. When Rafe's ex Jack tried to poison Colby he got Rafe instead and Colby realized that he loved him and would do anything to try and be a good omega for him but it didn't work. When Colby was beaten and raped while out working with Whiner Rafe took in wrong and a injured Colby took off and ended up at Trevor and Clint's land and they took him in. This was a really good book Colby got his revenge on the men that harmed him and after a long talk these two came together. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling the sex scenes in this book were hot. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This a pretty good book, easily read as a stand alone. Rafe and Colby are very likable characters even though you'd wanna smack them for their "I'll assume this " attitude and we all know what happens when you assume anything :P I say give it a shot if you like strong sexy shifter books
Neat concept. This Omega's physical appearance was deceiving. Kudos to his Alpha who was cool with it. Unfortunately, the consequences of the Omega getting gang raped was just glossed over. My rating was lowered because of that.
I actually really loved this book. It provided a different take on omegas and their dynamic in a pack. Colby was nothing like the submissive and subservient omegas of other packs. His strength often times put Alphas off. Some were even skeptical that he was an omega at all.
Rafe was looking for a strong omega to join his pack. He needed someone who could hold their own against him and his pack and who could fight alongside them.
These two were a match made in heaven, but they weren't without their struggles. Colby had a lifetime of insecurities to overcome and Rafe had to learn how to listen to his omega instead of making wild assumptions.
There were still some parts of the writing that brought this book down from 5 stars. Unnecessary time skips and what felt like summarization popped up too often for this to be a 5 star read, but I loved reading this book anyway.
I’ve been looking for a decent omegaverse novella or shorter story series to fill time in between larger books or just when I I feel like getting lost in a book that I know will be short and smutty and now need a lot of thought.
So far this series meet my needs pretty well, even though this is only book 2... anyways this book was not as good at the first. There was a lot of excess filler and just too much going that it ended up just dragging on and on. And even with all the extra storyline we still never figure out who tried to poison Colby, even though we all know it was Jack.... But again that was something added to the plot that didn’t need to be
Also has minor editing issues but not enough imo to effect the dragging storylines
This was a great continuance of the story begun in Book 1. I loved Clyde immediately! He has fire and passion and gumption. Rafe was brilliant; strong, powerful and supportive of Clyde, as he found his feet. Loved that Rafe was an Alpha willing to bottom, too. You don't see that often.
The story was more complex, with a few other characters thrown in. At first, I wasn't sure if I liked the multi-POV - with a lot of Rafe's pack getting their POV too - but it made sense, and is something I think will continue throughout the series.
There is a gang-rape mentioned, but thankfully we don't get to see any of it. It's implied through another POV and mentioned later.
This was a intriguing take on the "usual" Alpha/Omega dynamic. Colby is large and strong - not your typical omega. He is bought at the auction by Rafe, an even larger alpha wolf shifter. They have an unusual relationship that seems to be going well until an incident in the middle of the book that just screws everything up. I had liked the book until that point.
Another solid shifter installment, it was going fairly well with some original ideas like an Omega that comes off more like a beta or even an alpha. But the Big Misunderstanding in the middle was a little bit frustrating, when something happened to Colby, Rafe shot off at the mouth without getting all the information and ignoring explanations.
Also this book was probably about a hundred pages longer than it needed to be, I kind of felt it kept going when it passed a good stopping point at least once if not twice. But I did enjoy this and will be reading more.
