Wonderful collection of poems. Heartfelt and poignant, Siana Bangura not only writes about her truths, but also has her finger on the pulse of contemporary British society, centering the experiences of the Black diasporic communities in London. Sometimes devastating, other times elevating, Elephant is a reminder to find beauty and wonder in everyday life, stay woke, persevere in times of loss or hardship, and to revel in the company of and sing praises to the people we hold close to our hearts.

5 stars - IMMEDIATELY YES. Easy read, fast-paced, short & powerful. Through poems, she addresses topics such as Black (British) girlhood, womanhood, (her ow) trauma(s), unemployment, gentrification, disenfranchisement, love, loss, and racism. BUT it's not trauma porn, which is why I like this book.
