Horror Squad was an enjoyable introduction to this series. It is a short book that left me excited to see what happens next. The characters were realistic and I was definitely invested in their fate. There was a good amount of action and gore. The pace moved along pretty well and I really enjoyed the ending. Overall I recommend this book to fans of Zombie stories and I look forward to future stories in the series.
The story line is Walking Dead. The writing is that of a teen with poor grammar. There were flashbacks at the end of every chapter that initially caused me to wonder if two books had been combined. And one small spoiler...the writer seemed to feel the need to use profanity ('f***', 'd***', 'G**d***', and 'b****') in every dialog whether it was appropriate or not. It was free, but I will not be reading this author's work again.
A fun read based on real people. I enjoyed the action and the bits about how they reacted at the start of the Apocalypse. The parts about the base tended to be a little slow and overly descriptive, but still good. It has quite a few issues with grammar and punctuation which affected the reading so I had to drop a star.

I really didn't enjoy this book very much. It kept jumping from past to present and it always took me a few to realize it. Maybe it was the narrator? He was very monotone. All in all, I didn't like it very much.
I have to say this is my first zombie apocalypse book and I really didn't think I would get into it but the story grabbed me and took me on one crazy ride. Thank you TJ Weeks I truly enjoyed your writing and can't wait for the next part.
Tj weeks does a remarkable job of pullin hmm you into the story and bringing each character to life for you. Interesting story you will love everyone in the book and feel sorry for some and excited for others
The characters in this story are engaging and normal. No Rambo's here. It is a year into the za and is the story of a group of people doing their best to survive it.
I really enjoyed it. I liked the whole flashbacks in between we got to see what they was doing beforehand and got to feel how it all went down on the first day when their world ended around them. Detail's was good and no big timeline gap's which is big time deal with me. I freak out over that. Thank you so much for the cliffhanger... Grrrr. Lol
Note: something was getting on my nerves was. (Caught on his feet) when someone getting up.
This was a fast moving book. I enjoyed meeting the squad. Tough men and their strong families. And if course the many zombies they come into contact with. I hope there are more of these books because I definitely want more!
Grins the force is very real with this author. Great story with believable banter and story. Transports you right into the story. Narration is excellent. Also. Recommended
The plot was decent (I love zombies) in this book, the rotters disgusting, as they should be. The back and forth between past and present were pretty cool, once you got used to them. It was the writing style that really got me, though it did break up the flow of the story a bit. The way the dialogue was laid out, mostly. It may not bother others, it may be a completely personal thing, but it really took me out of the story and I was unable to get into the book or connect with any characters. And I really wanted to! I even put it aside for a while, thinking maybe it was just the mood I was in, but when I restarted it, it didn't really change for me and I ended up forcing myself to finish it.
I also was unable to get into the narrator. There was nothing I can specifically name about him that I didn’t enjoy, he simply wasn't my cup of tea. It could also be because I wasn't able to connect with the story that I feel this way, though. Perhaps with another story, written in a style more my speed, I'd like him better?
I AM interested in finding out what happens down the road with this tale, though, and I don't want this review to deter anyone who is intrigued! Please remember that this is just my personal and honest opinion. I hate, hate, hate having to leave low ratings, but I try to be as honest possible.
I enjoyed this story, It starts off simply, friends/families enjoying a Bar-B-Q. The horror begins. It plays out in a very realistic way, as I imagine it would. Strong female characters. Men & women fight as a team. Others protect children and maintain the living area. The Zombies realistic and perfect.
The world has changed but there is one group just trying to survive. As part of the group lives in the power plant/school area and keeps it up and running, the other part has to go out frequently and scavenge for food and other supplies that might help during this apocalypse. It is during one of these trips that things go very wrong.
This was a exciting, action filled, suspenseful, story of survival. I totally enjoyed listening to S.W. Salzman narrating this book, he does such a awesome job with all the different characters and expressing their emotions in his voice, it was amazing. I can't wait for more to hear what happens to T.J. and the crew.
This book was great lots of action and suspense and peppered in truths of real life! Any zombie fiend would enjoy this story. From the get go you have zombie action and suspense. Which members of the horror squad will make it to the end? What will happen to the compound? Questions I had to answer before I could put the book down.....now you must find out for yourself
This is the first book that I have read from TJ Weeks but it will not be the last. I really enjoyed reading this book because I was reading about a few friends and now I a wondering if they will survive the zombie apocalypse! If you like this genre than this is a book worth reading. I hope the second book is almost done!
“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.” I did not enjoy it and only finished it out of the above commitment. I'm sorry, I really was looking forward to a good short zombie story. Needs a different reader.
