Amber Roberts is an investigative journalist for a Birmingham television station. Who has all of a sudden become the news. Sometime being an investigative journalist is a dog eat world, in other word it is a very competitive business. Because there are people who will do whatever it takes to be on top. Some people are so jealous of someone else success, they will do everything in their power to sabotage that person careers.

Jess Harris Burnett, and her old friend Buddy Corlew have started a private investigation agency.
Sean Douglas was a former bodyguard to celebrities in Hollywood. There is something that happen on one of his jobs, that has change his life forever. Now he is back and working for Jess investigation agency as a bodyguard.

Gina Coleman, is an old friend of Jess, and she is an award winning television journalist at a Birmingham television station.

This is the second book of the Faces of Evil series, that is a spin-off of the original books from Debra Webb. Someone has committed a murder and all of the evident is pointing to Amber as the one who did the killing.

Gina, has asked Jess for help in investigative and to protected Amber in every way possible. Because she believes that she didn’t commit this crime. As you get more into the story you know that someone is watching Amber every move and terrorizing her at every turn.

If you enjoy reading suspense with police procedural and romance than I really suggest you read this book. If you are already a fan of Debra Webb books than you know her writing will keep you turning the pages to find out who is behind everything. While all that I can say is that I couldn't put this book down. Let me say this that it is someone you would never suspect…

For me this was just an OK read. This is a Harlequin Intrigue and I think that keeping the page count down impacted the success of the book. I like Ms. Webb's writing and her plot for this story was really good. The suspense and the characters related to the suspense are really well conceived. Some of the "good" parts do happen off page which reduces the level of suspense and for me was a disappointment.

My thoughts as I read this one (slight spoilers but they don't really give anything away):

I think the start of the book would have been stronger if it would have been the murder scene versus a Jess revisit background scene. The PI firm info could have been woven later and would have been better for the story. Jess and the PI firm are woven into this book better than they were in Book #1.

Amber didn't work for me as a heroine I could support. She comes off a little bitchy and vague in the beginning of the book and it didn't get better as the book progressed

Page 94 and 131, Sean and Amber are researching the case against her and she's thinking about his background. I would have been processing thoughts about the case as it would have been heavily on my mind. As a reporter I would have thought she would have had more singular focus on the case, specifically since it involves her. This seemed like standard issue romance contrivance which weakened the story as well as her character.

Pg 169, Sean wants to call in evidence but Amber is like there isn't time. What? You can make a call on the way and meet the police at the next victims home. This was weak. Plus they continue because she's insistent and he's weak? This is interfering with the investigation and in reality messes with evidence which might then mean it could be tainted and not be able to use in court. I don't like when novels have the characters play like they know best when they don't.

Sean was OK, but he did have weak moments where he disappointed me. Allowing Amber to go after evidence when he should have called the cops was one. And I didn't like the "sleeping together" when that was the issue with his previous relationship/case. It showed that he didn't grow up and make mature decisions the next time around.

I was also disappointed in the childish "I won't talk to you." as a last minute contrived separation of Sean and Amber. I think it would have been better to have a disagreement on when she goes back to work which could have easily been a real argument.

The epilogue jumps back to Jess and her personal relationship which wasn't present through the book so it just seemed really out of place to end the book on. I would categorize this as an HFN versus an HEA as I know some people want to know that in advance.

(Page numbers on based on Large Print, as I picked up the wrong book.)

Debra Webb hits another one out of the park with this suspenseful addition to her Faces of Evil series from Harlequin Intrigue.
Amber is used to reporting the news but a killer has her in her sights and now she has become the news. Sean has been assigned by Jess to protect her, but he finds it harder and harder to keep it professional as he learns about the person who he is now shielding from the cameras that have become her life.
Debra Webb has a way of weaving suspense and intrigue around strong complex characters that pull at your heart strings.

I was given an ARC of Still Waters for an honest review and this is my review.
Still Waters is the second book of the Faces of Evil: Private Eyes spin off series and it did not have as much interaction with the Faces of Evil family as the first book did it was still very good and introduced some new characters. Amber Roberts is caused of killing a man she claims she hardly knows so she ends up going to Jess and Buddy's PI firm to get help. She is assigned their newest employee Sean Douglas to act as her bodyguard. Needless to say Amber's life is in danger unless Sean can protect her because the real killer is out there and they do not want to be found.
I really enjoyed this book and the attraction between Amber and Sean. I thought it was sweet how he kept trying to put his job before their attraction and do the honorable thing thing because of what happened with his last client. I also found myself guessing who the killer was then something would happen to mess up my guess then another curve would come at me and I would be like I should have seen that one.
This was another good Faces of Evil book so I am giving it five out of five stars.

Amber Roberts is a journalist who has become the story. There is evidence that shows Amber may have committed a murder. Someone is framing her and they are doing a good job. Sean Douglas is a sexy bodyguard who has been hired to protect Amber. Ambers life is in danger, possibly from more than one person. This is the next installment in the Faces Of Evil series and it is a great addition.

There is suspense, romance, and likable characters in this book Other characters from the series appear but this story is mainly about Amber and Sean. You could read this book on its own if you haven't read the others in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to the series continuing. Thank you to the author for an advanced copy for a fair and honest review.

STILL WATERS (Faces of Evil: Private Eyes #2) by DEBRA WEBB

As always Debra Webb brings us a book that is hard to put down, with true-to-life characters and bad guys that are not who you'd expect. Even after the case is solved some questions remain regarding who actually did what, especially when there are multiple Unsubs. Another excellent read by Debra Webb, well worth the time spent!

Amber is a reporter and she is used to interviewing families of victims for her job. However, this time she finds herself being investigated for murdering a man who apparently has been obsessed with her. A gentleman who delivered flowers to her a couple of times has ended up being murdered and she is being framed for the murder. It seems a cup and a canister of her favorite kind of tea ended up in his home and the murder weapon ended up in her home.

Can she live long enough to find out who is framing her for murder.

This is the next installment in the Faces of Evil series continuing with Harlequin Intrigue. Amber Roberts is a reporter. She is brought in for questioning by the police when a delivery driver is murdered. Amber didn't even know the man except for the fact he'd delivered flowers to her home a couple of times. So how did her grandmother's teacup and a pair of her panties end up at the crime scene? It quickly becomes evident she's being framed. When it comes to light that the murdered man kidnapped and killed two women and its possible his partner killed him, the police warn Amber she might have been their next victim.

Former police detective Jess Burnett is called in. She and her long time friend, Buddy Curlew, have started their own investigative firm. They assign Sean Douglas to protect Amber. Sean's last assignment resulted in the death of the person he was protecting so he wants nothing more than to prove himself to his new boss. Even so, he's attracted to Amber from the start.

This was a quick read and a typical Harlequin. No surprises there. Still, I found it entertaining as I so enjoyed the author's Faces of Evil series and am glad to see it continue even in these shorter books.

Debra Webb continues the amazing Faces of Evil series with Still Waters. The different levels of evil theme is strong here as a team of serial killers targets a local news celebrity / investigative journalist, Amber Roberts. Though it starts by one of them framing her for the other’s murder. The murder investigation brings in Jess Barnett into the mix as her firm is hired to provide protection and look into the case. Sean Douglas spent many years as the private bodyguard to the stars. When one of his clients overdoes and dies he takes it very personally. Though Jess is initially reluctant to assign Amber’s protection to Sean, his credentials win out.

Amber is a tough heroine that takes an active part in the investigation, even though she’s very rattled by the events – as any sane individual would. Sean wants to prove himself to Jess and the team, but his protective instincts soon take over and he just wants to keep Amber safe.

The suspense plot definitely drives this novel. As with most of Webb’s novels it is highly complex and there are some great character moments interspersed. The familiar faces all make at least brief appearances, but this is really Sean and Amber’s story. The romance is a slow build, but definitely driven by the events of the plot. Those unfamiliar with the Faces of Evil world will not be lost when picking up this book. It might just entice them to go back to the beginning. Long-time fans will be very pleased by this latest installment in the series.

Copy received from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Another great installment in the FOE series. I love the direction Debra Webb is taking series and all the surrounding characters being added while still keeping us up to date with our favorite faces.

I'm so looking forward to what is coming. I have to say I really liked Sean Douglas, and Amber's story kept me guessing to the very end. I especially loved the interaction at the end with Dan & Jess! This is still one of my favorite series ever!!!!

**Disclaimer: If you've read book one, Dark Whispers, then you know the background. For those who are unaware of it, Jess, the former deputy chief of Birmingham's major crimes team, has recently resigned from the force and opened a private investigation firm, B&C Investigations, with her lifelong friend, Buddy.

Gina, friend to Jess and her husband, Dan, needs Jess's help. Barb, Gina's wife's, younger sister, Amber, a reporter, has been questioned for the murder of Kyle, a delivery man Amber knows only in the slightest of ways, yet both Barb and Gina know without a doubt that Amber didn't do it. Therefore, someone is making it look like she did. But why? Jess enlists investigator Sean to protect Amber until the true murderer is found. But Jess is a little hesitant as Sean is still dealing with being unable to protect his last assignment from herself and her demons.

Soon after accepting the assignment, Sean starts protecting Amber, and after the hours she spent in questioning, they arrive at Amber's home and are shortly joined by Frank, Amber's lawyer, with the details of the "evidence" the BPD have...it does not look good for Amber.

She didn't want the next story about a person who spent years in prison before being exonerated to be about her. - Amber

Sean, new to private investigating but not to being a bodyguard, is still reeling from what happened with his last client, Lacy James, rising pop star, and his girlfriend. He feels responsible for not being able to save her, the woman he thought may have been the one, but he's slowly trying to move forward with his life, although never expecting to find love again.

He wondered, though, if she knew the last woman he had been assigned to protect and who had trusted him had ended up dead. - Sean

As Sean and Amber spend every minute in each other's company while Sean protects her and they do a little digging into the life of the victim, their attraction is apparent. They also get to know one another on a more friendly note, as opposed to only on a professional level.

Thankfully it's not long before truths are revealed, and while Amber is relieved over this, it doesn't negate the fact that she's still in danger, ensuring the continued need for a protector. While evidence is being compiled on the true guilty party, Sean and Amber take a step toward making their relationship a more intimate one. However, things are said that are misconstrued, leaving one of them hurt and sure their time together has ended before it truly began.

Will Sean and Amber be able to make things right between them? Will they get a chance at a future together? Will the true culprit be found? Can Sean get to Amber in time, keeping her safe? Can they mend their relationship?

One-click now to find out who's behind the attempt to frame Amber and cover their own crimes and follow along as two people discover a love that's worth fighting for.

I’m new to reading Debra Webb. My introduction to her writing was Dark Whispers, the first book in this new series which I read last month. I haven’t read the series which this is a spin-off from, Faces of Evil, but definitely will. There are some characters from the Faces of Evil series included in the Private Eyes series but Debra Webb introduces them with details of their history and the roles they play as they enter the storyline without interrupting or taking away from the main story. Still Waters is a fast moving action mystery with a likeable and believable characters and storyline. The villain was one that wasn’t even on my radar. Eagerly waiting for the next release in this series.

As Debra Webb opens this latest installment of the Faces of Evil series, Jess Harris Burnett has a nineteen month old daughter and a son due in six weeks. She has left behind (or so she believes,) her life chasing serial killers as a former FBI profiler and more recently as deputy chief of the Birmingham, Alabama Police Department’s (BPD) major crimes team, and opened B&C Investigations with a friend as her partner. A case comes to her when Amber Roberts, a reporter with the local television station, is called in to BPD for questioning regarding a murder. Did Amber commit murder or not? She says no, so if the police have any evidence that she did, she is either lying or is being framed.
If Amber is innocent and therefore being framed for murder, she is in jeopardy. For her own safety, Jess assigns a security specialist, Sean Douglas, to bodyguard duty. Amber is focused only on her career, and Sean has returned home to Birmingham after a disastrous episode in Los Angeles where a young female pop star died while under his protection.
The hunt for the culprit continues throughout the book, corkscrewing through several plot twists and descending through an ever-widening web of intrigue and deceit. All the while, the gorgeous young redheaded reporter is accompanied everywhere by her handsome blue-eyed protector. As they inevitably grow attracted to each other, her strict dedication to her career above all else begins to waiver, and he has an increasingly difficult time keeping the relationship on a professional level. The tension, action and mystery continues right up until the end of the book, keeping the reader riveted. All in all, Still Waters is another good read in the Faces of Evil series by Debra Webb.
Happy Reading!

It’s always a wonderful feeling to find an author you love; you know you can always read their books and never be disappointed!! Of course Debra Webb is one of those authors that I know will deliver a story that keeps me reading to find out what happens next.

Still Waters is the story of Amber Roberts who is used to reporting the news, not being the topic of the news herself. But Amber has obviously been targeted and it appears she is under suspicion in the death of someone she barely knew. Thank goodness her sister’s wife is good friends with Jess Burnett (ex FBI/ex Birmingham Detective) who is co-owner of a private detective agency. Jess assigns Sean Douglas to protect Amber and hopefully uncover who may be targeting her. But as they start to find out more information, it just becomes more complicated. How many people are involved and why are they targeting Amber? What connects Amber to the other women who were murdered? Will Sean be able to keep Amber safe especially since the last person he was a bodyguard for and was involved with ended up deceased?

This story has so many twists and surprises in it. I truly enjoyed it and hated when it was over. I don’t want to give too much away because I want the story to have surprises for you too! So now I have to wait on the next Debra Webb book to be released!!

This lucid mystery introduces local news reporter Amber Roberts. The public may be use to seeing Amber reporting the news, but now the tables have turned and Amber is the subject of the daily news as a murder suspect.

This is a quick enjoyable read that held my attention. This is my kind of read…the suspense is high and the romance is low. The plot is one that is unpredictable. The author has plenty of twist to where you aren't really sure who is behind the murder and stalking.

I enjoyed the characters. Amber is a smart and strong lady who wasn't a damsel in distress but a lady who actually helped in the investigation. Her partnership with Sean Douglas, her bodyguard, worked in harmony and made this for a pleasant read. Sean is a gentlemen in making sure Amber is protected and he didn't hesitate to work along with her to question and investigate this case. I couldn't help but notice that the police investigator just followed along while Sean and Amber pretty much did majority of the leg work to solve the case.

The writing is good. The story flows well. The plot is well developed and easy to follow.

Danger, romance, suspense are all ingredients that make this a good read that I highly recommend.

Still Waters (Faces of Evil Private Eyes #2) by Debra Webb I've followed Debra Webb's Faces of Evil series, and Still Waters, the latest book in this series does not disappoint. I love how Debra weaves the main character's lives throughout this series. I get to see how Jess's family and friends continue to grow and evolve, and each book adds new supporting characters. I look forward to seeing where their lives take them down the road, too!

I almost always figure the plot out early in a suspense book. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the end of Still Waters.

Debra Webb is an amazing writer who works hard and generously connects with her readers. I see her being at the top of the New York Times Best Seller list some day. Her suspense books are fantastic reads!

This is the second book of the Faces of Evil series through Harlequin Intrigue..if you have read the first one you know that Jess and Buddy have a PI business with others for them..this time Amber is a reporter who is blamed for murdering someone she just knew in passing. Sean a PI working for Jess and Buddy is her bodyguard..Jess is leary of him as he acts to cocky for her. but he turns out to be great...Amber has serial killers after her..You think they are two but turns out to be more but when you find out who has been behind it all along you will be shocked beyond words. The pages just turn fast as you go through the story. You don't want to put it down but you want to absorb every word there is to make sure you do not miss a detail! Another great Debra Webb story!

Still Waters is the second book in the Faces of Evil spinoff series from Harlequin Intrigue. Ms. Webb doesn't disappoint!

Amber is a news reporter that becomes a person of interest in the death of a delivery person. She seeks help from Jess and Buddy, who assign their newest investigator, Sean. He has experience protecting celebrities, although the last one he protected didn't end so well. Will he be able to keep Amber safe and find out who is targeting her and why?

Ms. Webb has a wonderful way intermingling the new characters along with the original characters that we have come to enjoy so much. I can't wait to read more of this series!

Another great suspense-filled story by one of my favorite storytellers. In this second installment of the Faces of Evil series we have an up-and-coming reporter, Amber Roberts, accused of murder. Her assigned bodyguard, Sean Douglas, has a guard duty gone bad experience.

Webb weaves a story of deep secrets and danger at every corner. The story grabs you as soon as you read the first page. Pacing is steady and builds to an unexpected climax. If you like suspense and intrigue, Still Waters is the book for you.

Wow! An awesome must read for fans of fiction! Always a great storyline that's full of suspense, romance and well-defined likable characters... This page-turner grabbed me right from the start and kept me on the edge of my seat thru the surprise me ending! ... Even tho it's part of the Faces of Evil: Private Eyes series, this story is mainly about Sean & Amber, so it can be read as a stand-alone... I was fortunate to have won a free copy, but this is my honest opinion and I highly recommend "Still Waters" and any book by this bestselling author!
