About the author

Katie de Long

50 books82 followers

Katie de Long writes steamy and dark New York Times and USA Today bestselling romances. She publishes paranormal romance as K. de Long, flirty, daring contemporaries as Lila Vega, and dark, sensuous romantic thrillers and dark romance as Tiger Tarantino. Her books blend the bloody punch-to-the-gut spectacle and wit of a David Fincher movie with kink, chemistry, and edgy, angsty romance.
Katie lives in the Pacific northwest, realizing her dream of being a crazy cat-lady. As a kid, she flagged the fade-to-blacks in every adult book she encountered, and when she began writing, she vowed to use cutaways sparingly. After all, that’s when the good stuff happens. And on a kindle, no one asks why there’s so many bookmarks in her library.

Misery
Misery though draining can be quite addictive and Holly Doherty becomes a junkie of the highest order, with the help of ultimate hottie Jared Jones, rock star extraordinaire. In one night Holly goes from being a ballsy chick who has total control of her life, to being a woman ruled by lust, unable to clear her mind long enough to figure out what it really is she wants. To make matters worse, her boss Sean is kicking up his pursuit of her into overdrive and her Sensei Deacon is letting her know that his interest is not purely platonic. Poor Holly is inundated with hotties, while her main squeeze is unavailable for a solid week.
I was so drawn into this book that I began to feel what the characters felt, the intensity so strong that before I knew it, an emotional bond had been forged and I could swear these characters were living, breathing, entities. Gemma managed to throw so many curve balls that I couldn't tell which way the story was headed and what a glorious feeling it was. I found myself becoming extremely fickle, for one minute I was in love with Jared and wanted him for Holly. The next minute it was Sean who stole my heart and before I could take another breath, Deacon had my full attention. The inevitable conclusion was, me never wanting this story to end. Readers might want to grab an ice bucket, fan or just put the air conditioner on full blast, because this book is such a scorcher the pages are singed.

Betrayal
This book delves into the complicated and dysfunctional relationship of a couple in love. This story is not a fairy tale, it is the stone cold truth of how relationships are not always roses and chocolate's and how it takes real work and sacrifice(mostly of ones pride) to maintain it.I loved this story because I was able to experience every emotion along with Lee, her hurt at discovering her life was not what she thought it was, her anger at being betrayed by her soulmate and her desperation to hold onto her best friend and love of her life. Anyone who has been in a long term relationship can relate to her. This book is not only very well written it resonates within my heart and truly makes me FEEL the story page by page. Poppet has a way of pulling you into her books making you feel like Alice Through The Looking Glass. So that inevitably it doesn't seem like a story at all,but real experiences you share with the characters. Once again I bow to the literary genius that is Poppet!!

I found the stories mostly good, but some smaller parts are a bit boring to me. I would not mind to read more.

To be honest I'm getting really tired of mediocre box sets. There's a whole raft of readers out there who are being conditioned to believe they should pay barely anything for their books because they can pick up sets like this for free or 99 cents. Trouble is, you get what you pay for.

I'm sorry to pick on this set in particular, because there's loads of them out there that are equally bad. But at the same time I'm not sorry, because this set exemplifies all the problems I have with box sets like this.

1. The average quality of the editing is poor. There are typos all over the place, missing words, wrongly used words, bad grammar.

2. The average quality of the writing is poor. It's often dull. The sex scenes are run of the mill and unerotic. The narratives lurch wildly from intensely boring everyday life to overly dramatic events that don't impact the characters in any meaningful way. It's all tell and no show. I could go on.

3. The authors in these box sets are often described as 'bestselling'. But really that just makes a mockery of the bestseller lists, because all it takes to get on one these days is to release a box set like this and for all the authors to get all their friends and family to buy it. A 99 cent box set is so cheap that people don't mind helping out, so boom. Instant bestseller. I have learned through painful experience not to give any credence to authors claiming to be bestsellers any more.

I assume the point of such box sets is to encourage people to buy other books by the same authors. Unfortunately I got so bored reading it that I would never read anything else by any of these authors.

The story from Alexia Purdy Breathe Me is such a sweet and profound story of re-discovering love, forgiveness and a couple finding each other. I found the book sweet with a nice story. Alexia writes stories about healing hearts very well and this one is true to form. We meet the characters in the individual throwback chapters and fall in love with them as they fall in love all over again, this time for keeps. great read.
