The building stands on Halifax’s shoulder, a monolithic condominium of haunting, postmodern beauty.
The structure isn’t on any map, however, nor does anyone live there.
Lights twinkle on and off during the night, illuminating windows dimmed with dust. The lobby reeks of sweat and fear. A faceless shadow sits behind a front desk, directing lone visitors to an elevator that stops on the upper floors only. The select few who venture to the top of that imposing mountain of glass, steel, and concrete do not ever return.
Two men, however, will enter that high-rise deathtrap and brave its horrors.
One man is searching for a missing woman.
The other is trying to deliver a pizza.
“Isosceles Moon” is a novella. Contains coarse language and violence.
Another entertaining read from Mr. Blackmore. Enjoyed the the story and its original characters. Looking forward to part 2 and more from Keith ahead. Sure hope his next series stays in horror genre. Those not familiar with Keith’s works are seriously missing out.
Blackmore excels at turning Everyman into something greater through his excellent storytelling. Ice Moon is another great example. I wasn't sure if I'd like this at first since my expectations are so high after the iconic Mountain Man series. But as the story went on I found myself dragged in deeper and deeper and now I can't wait for the second book of the trilogy.
Nice snappy storyline. Great characters and interesting story. Beautifully written page Turner. Keith has done it again a provided a fantastic book. Roll on book 2.
Isosceles draws the short straw when he picks up the pizza delivery for the mysterious tower block. He ignores the warning signs in the lobby and continues up to a whole heap of trouble. He isn’t the only one who falls for the lies that entice people into the tower of doom, the evidence is littered in the lift. When I first picked this book up I assumed from the cover that it would be a simple ghost story. I was wrong, there’s nothing simple or familiar about the story. It is unique, full of depth, and compelling. Even though it is a novella there’s plenty of meat within to sink your teeth into. The characters are realistic, funny, and charming, and the description is enough to get a clear picture of the setting but not too much that you drown in it. I think Keith has a real strength when it comes to developing characters; plenty of flaws, human traits, and a realistic language and dialect. I am hoping to see this story develop into a series.
Short stories and novellas are often tricky little beasts. By its very nature, the shortened format requires the author to set the mood, tell the backstory, introduce the characters and pace the plot with fewer words.
Done poorly, a novella can end up tasting like a bowl of plain vanilla ice cream. There’s nothing wrong with vanilla ice cream, but it’s usually more satisfying with hot fudge, whipped cream and nuts (maybe even a cherry, if you’re lucky). Stephen King is a master of short stories and novellas, but in my experience, he’s the exception to the rule. Even skilled writers often struggle with them. Which is why I was a bit nervous about Isosceles Moon. I’m a huge fan of Keith Blackmore, and I didn’t want to be let down if he wasn’t able to pull it off.
Another great read from one of my favourite horror authors. Mr. Blackmore could of simply given readers "another' vampire novel, instead we are introduced to vampire-like creatures from Philippines mythology that makes for a more interesting and exotic read. Mr. Blackmore does a great job with characters, settings and evoking emotions, and he uses a lot of colourful and down to earth language that provides a lot of chuckles, which I enjoy in a horror novel. Normally I prefer full length novels, yet this novella was a fun read and I quickly grew to enjoy the main character. This novella is written in such a way that we should hopefully see more of Isosceles Moon in the future and I am looking forward to it.
Isosceles Moon 1 & 2 by Keith c Blackmore Ok so I would never read anything like these books, but in the interest of broadening my reading horizons and and a highly recommended author …. I did.
What can I say ……. Fantasy is not for me. Book 1 was readable book 2 is time I will never get back. Having said that they are both Novellas and very quick reads so if you want to explore the genre they are not a bad place to start. They pace at which they move is really quick which I like.
Isosceles Moon (2 Book Series) By Keith C. Blackmore, wildly original story that will give you the CREEPS! You read reviews and on occasion you see the word “unputdownable,” If you need a definition of “unputdownable” pick-up anything written by Keith C. Blackmore, he simply does not disappoint…Highly recommend!
Good creepy setting. An entertaining read, but nothing much to the story. I was expecting a more paranormal direction for a creepy abandoned apartment building, but this works.
