Lakes evaporate. Plants die. Skin blisters. All from a sun that now burns too hot.
If James hadn’t made his wife a promise to stay alive at all costs, he would have given up long ago. All he has in life is a small group of survivors, and his little sliver of shade. But there are worse things to fear than the light. In order to survive in this cruel world, James will have to live by two rules.
This was an awesomely eerie post-apocalyptic novella which gave a whole new twist on the genre.
The world as we know it has gone. Destroyed by the blistering heat-soaked sun, and the only way to stay alive is by living in the shade.
This story disturbed me immensely at times and yet it still had me feeling cautiously optimistic right until the last page. Whilst bleak, there was a sense of--or it was quite possibly my own-- of hope. Hope that it would be okay. Because for me, the characters in the book are living, but it isn't a life worth living.
I honestly can't wait for the next book in the series to see what happens next. I'm curious and intrigued by the whole thing. There were so many questions left unanswered that I didn't really know what to think when I had finished other than...GIVE ME MORE!
As with all my reviews, I am completely honest, I will admit that I did struggle with this story at the beginning, it took me a little while to get into this story but once I did I enjoyed this novella and the way it ended made me crave more of this story, to find out more detailed information about what has caused things to be the way that they are. It was a good introduction to all the characters and what sort of people they are. I do have to say that this novella is very unique and I have never read anything even remotely close to it. I would definitely be interested in following this story up.
This mini post apocalyptic story has the potential to satisfy anyone who loves end of the world thrillers. Who are they? Where did they come from? Where will they go and who or rather what is hunting them? Will they make it? I for one, am hoping they don't. I look forward to the next book to find out more of the gruesome truth, and think the characters should be worried not only about finding safe places to survive in the shade, but what waits for them in the night.

I thoroughly enjoyed this creepy post-apocalyptic story from the first sentence to the last. I was as intrigued by what was stated as much as what was only hinted at. I'm left wanting and needing to know more!
This book describes a nightmare scenario of a post apocalyptic world with a handful of survivors barely hanging on. It's dark, creepy, scary, and brutal. I'm not even sure what else to say about this other than I'm probably going to have nightmares about it.
