Carlisle Book Four

Fisher Moreland has been cast out of his family because they can no longer deal with his issues. Fisher is bipolar and living day to day, trying to manage his condition, but he hasn’t always had much control over his life and has self-medicated with whatever he could find.

JD Burnside has been cut off from his family because of a scandal back home. He moved to Carlisle but brought his Southern charm and warmth along with him. When he sees Fisher on a park bench on a winter’s night, he invites Fisher to join him and his friends for a late-night meal.

At first Fisher doesn’t know what to make of JD, but he slowly comes out of his shell. And when Fisher’s job is threatened because of a fire, JD’s support and care is more than Fisher ever thought he could expect. But when people from Fisher’s past turn up in town at the center of a resurgent drug epidemic, Fisher knows they could very well sabotage his budding relationship with JD.

The Carlisle Cops series has been truly engaging; he has created characters who are a mix of strength and flaws, the story arc takes the reader through their relationship journey whilst delivering a powerful storyline.
All Andrew's books challenge convention, bringing the reader along on journey of discovery...very powerful.
Have really enjoyed this series and would love to see the Carlisle family grow.
If you haven't already downloaded the series then do...great reads...all of them!

This absolutely did not work in any way, shape, or form for me.

I didn't like either of the MCs, the plotline was all over the place, and the instalove was beyond ridiculous, less than a week.

The 2* are for the attempt at bipolar representation, which I felt, while not necessarily 100% spot on, did do a good job in trying to depict what life is like with it.

The same theme from book two, it’s now monotonous, I’d have loved to continue but it’s like reading the same story with different characters and slight changes

*** I love this Andrew Grey series ! *** I always learn something important. The author lets us all know that there is someone out there for everyone. No matter what, there is some one who will "get" you, love you and care about you.
Beautiful. Fisher is a sweet man, brain damaged from an accident,

who struggles daily in life. JD is a Carlisle policeman,

rejected by his family, he came to this town for acceptance, friendship and work. JD finds Fisher on a park bench, zoned out, and ends up inviting him to eat with the guys. During the meal Fisher is bright-eyed, and fine. They get to talk more next time, and share kisses that taste like hope and promise.

Deep conversations, mind ramblings and time gives the guys a chance to bond. Meanwhile there is an ongoing drug gang problem, and Fisher gets in the crosshairs. The underlying story of the dealers is great, with lots of action and information. We are understanding Fisher and his issues, and of course get to see the guys advance and have super hot sexy times. Fisher seemed aloof at times, but it stemmed from his strict regime he follows to function smoothly. He's a smart, wonderful man, and perfect for JD. They truly need each other. More happens, but you'll have to find out by reading this tale.

I liked the characters, the plot, the sexiness, and the HEA. I've read the whole series, and love to see the other men again as they have moved forward. Great writing.. Highly recommended. ENJOY !!!

I think this is one of the best series of Andrew Grey ♥
All of the books have a nice police case development and a BEAUTIFUL and very touching love story.
The broken characters are really good built… they make me cry every time :*(
But Finally always get their personal growth and HEA!

This time the story starts with the new police officer JD , who want to help a stranger who seems lost in a park bench on a very cold and snowy day.... ♥

I think this is my favorite of the series. It seemed to have a less "fluffy" feel to it and the issues seemed more real. These two were just the sweetest and most insecure and kind of screwed up of the bunch.

This latest installment in the ‘Carlisle Cops’ series is as touching, suspenseful, and heartwarming as the first three. Determination and courage are again central themes, but this time both men battle a sense of abandonment, having been cut off by their families. JD is a well-liked police officer, so at least he has his colleagues (Red, Carter, and Kip – all well known from the first three books) to talk to and support him. Fisher is not so lucky – he has a dark past, suffered an accident with horrific consequences for his health, and faces life all alone. To make things even more difficult for both of them, Fisher’s past seems to be catching up with him, JD’s mother exhibits a sudden need to return him under her control, and increasing threats from drug dealers turn all of the usually quiet city streets of Carlisle into a battlefield. What a roller coaster!

Fisher has never had an easy life and did some things he is less than proud of, but he was trying to get his life in order. Then an accident left him with traumatic brain injury and he is now bipolar, making everything much more challenging. His boyfriend abandoned him, his parents and siblings kicked him out, and his mood swings and memory lapses make every single day a challenge. He doesn’t easily trust, so he has no friends, but even though he is lonely, he has no idea how to fix it.

JD is from the South and has started a new life after being cut off by his family – mainly his mother. All she worried about was the scandal JD caused, and JD, knowing a lost battle when he sees one, decided to leave and build his own life. He likes being a cop despite the occasional danger, and he works well with the Carlisle team. When he sees Fisher sitting on a bench in the park, all on his own and in the freezing cold, he decides to check on him and help if he can.

This simple act of human kindness has all kinds of consequences. Fisher is attracted to JD, but afraid the man will run once he finds out the truth about Fisher – everyone else in Fisher’s life has left him. JD finds Fisher intriguing, and he admires the strength it has taken for Fisher to get where he is now. Both men clearly need each other, and when the increasing incidents with drug dealers begin to look like someone is after Fisher, JD’s protectiveness comes to the fore and they combine their efforts to catch the criminals – only to find they are falling for each other. Very sweet!

If you like stories about men who fight for the right to live a peaceful life the way they want, if you want to know more about the effect of mental issues can have on a budding relationship, and if you’re looking for a read that combines suspense, emotion, determination, and an indomitable will to live unencumbered by what others think, then you will probably like this novel as much as I did. It’s a worthy addition to this beautiful series!

I like grey’s carefully thought out plots. They aren’t Machiavellian or earth shattering but they are thought through. In this book I like that one of the MCs works at a warehouse and his work is explained. This is a romance, but one of the MCs is a cop, and one of the plot threads is a policing problem that is solved at the end.

I just don't understand! Parents are supposed to love their children...unconditionally..not just the bits and pieces that suit them. Not loving your child because they're gay or mentally ill, that's just all kinds of fucked up.

JD's momma was so freaking bitchy, but it was obvious she did love her son. Trying to understand his gay lifestyle was hard for her but I don't think she was disgusted by it, just confused, being raised by strict southern morals. At the end of the day she did love her son and did her best to accept him and Fisher..that's what counts!

Fisher's parents are an entirely different story. Who doesn't love their child because they're bipolar? He had an accident and his way of thinking was permanently altered..so not his fault! Its your job as his parents to be there, help him, understand him...to love him! His parents were selfish and didn't deserve a sweet son like Fisher.

Overall another good read and addition to this incredibly sweet yet super sexy series!

I should really read the room in my brain right now. Usually, law enforcement romance is right for me, and this could be, too. Except. Well. One of the main characters' full name is Jefferson Davis. And that's not addressed or alluded to or anything. And there's a point where a suspect could have been roughed up by the police, and they just smile about it. I might try another of these in the future, but I'm wary now.

I read a few other books in this series too long ago to remember. This one featured a small-town police officer who's openly gay. His friends are all coupled gay policemen.
He sees a man who seems down on his luck, and adds him to his group of friends.
His dragon of a mother comes to visit at the same time as he is starting a new romance and breaking a drug case.
It was an exciting mixture.
Typos: a few missing minor words.

2 1/2 stars - I could not connect with these two MCs. I wanted to give up on this book so many times. That’s so unusual for me with an Andrew Grey book. His books are so good. This one just wasn’t for me.

(Originally reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews with a copy provided by the publisher / author for an honest review.)

From the first page of the first book in this series, I’ve been hooked on the Carlisle Cops series. Mr. Grey does a very good job bringing us into the world of these men, and his characters are well developed and believable.

Fire and Snow is similar in nature to the previous three books in the series. There is still a drug problem in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and it is growing. I like how Mr. Grey takes actual modern social problems, like the burgeoning drug issues hitting the streets of small town America, and incorporates them into his books.

JD Burnside is a young man from Charleston, South Carolina, who has recently relocated to Carlisle to avoid a family scandal back home. His family is not at all supportive of him being gay. They are of the “It just isn’t proper”, and “What will they think at the country club” mindset. The only one on his side is his father’s wealthy sister, who has always encouraged him to be who he is. Now that he is in Carlisle and on the police department, his life is going well, but he seems lonely.

Then one cold November evening, JD spots a young man sitting on a park bench. When he approaches him and encourages him to go home to the warmth, the man goes, but JD can’t get him out of his mind.

Fisher Moreland is a young man with some issues. Diagnosed as bipolar following an accident, Fisher has had a hard time of it. His boyfriend couldn’t handle the changes, and walked away. His mother wants to see him institutionalized. His coworkers know him as the quiet guy in the booth signing trucks in and out at the large warehouse where he works. Inside, Fisher is a lonely man with very low self-worth.

The two men will be drawn together, but is there a fit? I enjoyed this installment. It had some drama, some reconciliation, some shady drug dealers, and it also gave us snippets on the characters from the previous three books. I’m still waiting to see what will happen with the character Terry from book one who is slated to swim at the Olympics in Rio. Since we’re getting close to those games, I’m guessing the next book in the series will be that story.

I’ll leave you with my only slight negative on the book and the series. It is starting to seem a little unbelievable that a Borough (town) the size of Carlisle would have so many gay male cops. I know the stories work, but everyone can’t be gay. And the books all feel slightly the same. They seem to sometimes almost follow a common outline.

Slight negatives aside, I recommend this book and its predecessors. They can be read as standalones, but the characters do pop up in subsequent books, so it would be best to read them in order. A good example of characters popping up…I could swear that I’ve heard of JD’s aunt in another story, but I read so many that I can’t tell you which one.

Fisher Moreland lives a quiet, lonely life; spending each day just going through the motions. A car accident left him with a permanent brain injury that is only exacerbated by his bi-polar diagnosis. He has episodes you could say, lapses in memory or extreme bouts of depression. When JD, one of Carlisle's finest, finds Fisher camped out on a park bench he is intrigued. An invite to dinner gives JD reason to get to know more abut Fisher. Both men have their secrets as well as a family that has turned their backs on them. The attraction is mutual, but Fisher is determined to push JD away, not wanting the vibrant cop to be saddled with a bi-polar manic depressive partner that has short term memory issues. Fortunately, JD doesn't give up quite that easy. Unfortunately, both men's past literally shows up on their doorstep, determined to stir up trouble and try to tear these two apart before they can even get started.

If you follow my reviews then you know how much I just love this Author's work... this story is no exception. One of the many things I enjoy about Grey's writing is the amount of research he puts into his stories to truly represent whatever the arc for any given storyline is. That, coupled with his keen eye and attention to detail make him one of the best writers in the genre, in my humble opinion. I know people that have the same diagnosis as Fisher and I was amazed with how accurate Grey's descriptives when it came to Fisher, his episodes and struggles with his condition were. Add to that the stress of entering into a relationship with JD, and then the danger that has followed Fisher as the result of a bad choice he made in the past and it's literally a recipe for disaster. JD becomes a beacon for Fisher, a shoulder to lean on, he makes it perfectly clear that he is there for Fisher even when Fisher continues to push him away. In the end they take strength from each other to create their own place in the world.

Definitely a must read, and while I always recommend reading any series in order, you can read this one as a stand alone and not be lost at all.

4.5 Stars ~ It doesn’t get easier for the officers of Carlisle. Just when they think the drug problem is under control, it starts to raise its ugly head again.

JD Burnside works hard as a police officer. He always seems to be chasing the criminals on foot, but no matter how much the job takes out of him, JD feels this is where he belongs—he’s found a place where he is accepted and has loyal friends. That’s much more than what his overbearing and manipulative mother ever gave him.

Fisher Moreland is a lonely soul. He blames himself for the accident that causes him to become plagued by bipolar disorder. His family isn’t a part of his life since it’s much easier to sweep his issues under the rug, and they don’t want to deal with either his disorder or the panic attacks. His personal issues also caused him to get involved with drugs at a low point of his life, but Fisher is a good guy. He has a job that he likes and has learned to accept his issues.

After seeing Fisher sitting on a bench in the cold, JD tries to get him to go home. Because JD has the need to help people, he invites Fisher to a late night meal with several of his fellow officers and friends. Both JD and Fisher have been overlooked by their families because of different tragedies in their lives. The road gets bumpy for both of them, but they both give support to each other that bonds them closer together.

I think Fire and Snow is my favorite book so far in the Carlisle Cop series. Both JD and Fisher were solid characters and complemented each other. I really like that Andrew Grey always brings camaraderie between friends, and the new person that enters the fold is always welcomed with open arms. I also have to give a special mention to Red and Terry from Fire and Water. They are such a fun couple, Red a little shy and Terry doing the teasing. This storyline is easy to follow and there’s action with some dangerous moments too. And, there’s always an important message behind the story.

Moving to Carlisle to Catch a Cop

There is a somewhat nebulous character hanging around a few scenes in this book who, if Andrew Grey's past tricks are going to continue, might end up as one of the MCs in the next in this series--if there is a next. If there is, and I guessed wrong, well, let's see what hot young cop he can come up with the next time. If there isn't, it wouldn't be a bad thing because this book has all the elements of being a series finale.

It has a perfectly screwed-up coupling of patrolman Jefferson Davis Burnside (JD), an escapee from the Charleston, S.C. society horrors he won't define, and Fisher Moreland, a reclusive native of the Carlisle, Pennsylvania area whom JD befriends on a sympathetic whim, and who turns out to be quite a head trip for everyone concerned.

Everyone includes all the couples from the first three books--three unspeakably attractive cops and their hot lovers--who interact socially and professionally with JD and Fisher when they work their way toward a relationship and also into a serious bunch of danger reminiscent of the first book in the series.

What is so good here is that both JD and Fisher have serious issues with their families, each based on different experiences, which are not to be divulged here. Grey handles these issues cleverly by having each of them bring each other "out" in terms of counseling each other to be himself, while ignoring his own advice. This kind of scenario can be frustrating to a reader but Grey handles it adeptly by opening up each door to the past for both of them while they are in each other's arms, or faces.

The upshot here is that if you put these four covers side-by-side, you would see perfect replicas of how these characters look and feel to you as a reader, and eight reasons why you should consider moving to Carlisle and getting a traffic ticket as soon as possible.

Once again, the cops of Carlisle are the officers of the law that we all want protecting our own town. They are smart, brave, careful but they also go that extra mile to do their job. In Fire & Snow, we have JD, a man who was virtually thrown out of his family for being a good man who stayed true to himself, and then we have Fisher, a man who had his life turned on it's head after a car accident but has the determination to keep going forward. When they meet, Andrew Grey has once again showed us that one person truly can change the lives of many. Technically, Carlisle Cops is a series of standalone reads since each entry focuses on a different couple but personally, I highly recommend reading them in order because the cops and their partners are often in the next installment, sometimes only as cameos, but they are still mentioned so I find it just flows better to read in order. A series that has earned it's spot in my series library and one that will also find it's way to my re-read shelf in the future.

This was another really great book from Andrew Grey. It is clear that this author does his homework before writing a book. The characters were absolutely great and I really fell in love with Fisher. I couldn’t imagine having to live the type of life he had to live. I also loved JD and loved how Fisher was able to help him with his family. JD also help Fisher realize that he could be loved and to get over his fears of insecurity. They are dealing with many different issues that luckily they persevere over them. This is a really great story from a great series. This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone.

I received a free copy of this book to read for Inked Rainbow Reads in exchange for an honest review.

I love this series with every book more and more. Not just we get to know some new characters but also learn more about "old" friends and I am so damn happy, to see some of the other sweet guys again and again. This mixture is perfect. And finally to read JD's Story, yummilicious. He and Fisher are so adorable, it's breathtaking. I love Fisher for his strength, you really can look up to him and be so proud of him what he achieved after all this Trouble he had to get through. And with sexy JD on his side, well, who wouldn't love to have such a big and loveable support. I can't wait to (hopefully) read some more of this series!

As with the other Carlisle Cops books this book paired together two men, one in public service and the other not, that seemed very unlikely. Both Fisher and JD had issues in their past that would seem to guarantee that they not be together. But both have overcome those issues and become great members of society.

I really do like this series despite the fact you have to ignore that the Police Department seems to have an extremely high amount of gay cops. The story between Fisher, who is bipolar, and JD, who's been thrown out by his family, had a bit of heft to it but luckily it never got extremely angsty.

I enjoyed this book. Like the others they are sweet and the sexual content is not graphic at all but sweet. It's quite tamer than the others. Not sure how accurate biploar condition is explored in this book through Fisher's personality but you'll like him enough. The more I read the series though, the less intrigue they stand to have. Granted, there is always the beauty of the characters; they are always uniquely flawed to give a beautiful romance. However, the story lines are becoming predictable and are looking more like traditional romance arcs. Except for the book with Carter and Donald, all the partners the policemen have are "damsels" in distress and the policemen come to the rescue. I do like that Fisher came to JD's help in this book too but the effect wasn't there because he didn't even know what he did. As usual, expect at least one thing that won't solve itself in these series.

PLEASE READ FIRST MY RATING SYSTEM!!!
To my ratings (for all people, who wonder, why I say a 3*-book is a good book and should be readed):
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like Liberty from Seth King or Save the kids series from EM Leya). it’s like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books)
It’s like an A
3* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It’s like an A-B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartly, but it was ok)
It’s like an C- D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (maybe too many mistakes, not a nice plot, or unlogical story, so a NO-GO)
It’s like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

Police Officer (Jefferson Davis. The southern girl in me loves it:)) J.D. Burnside befriends a man on a cold winter night that looks in need of an understanding friend. It turns out to be one of the best moves he ever made. I really like this little series and I will hate to see it end. The guys are all such good friends and they all show up in one another's stories even if only marginally. Both JD and Fisher have family difficulties but together figure that they can surmount any obstacle and actually mange to work some issues out. I see my friends have the other books so I'll get to visit the guys in their quaint little town of Carlisle for a little while longer.

This is Carlisle Cops, Book 4 but they stand alone pretty well. You just have a better understanding of the recurring characters if you’ve read them in order.
As with all Andrew Grey books the story has great characters and there is a bit of a suspense in this. I really liked that Fisher is different and his bipolar issues are a big part of the story. I loved the romance between him and J.D. and how J.D seemed to understand and was so patient with Fisher. It is an allover good romantic suspense.
I listened to the audio and liked Randy Fuller’s narration. His voice is appealing and easy to listen too and he makes the story smooth and intriguing.

The MCs in this story are in both trying to recover from their families turning them out but for different reason. They are both incredibly broken and hurting with dark things in their pasts and one has TBI and is bi-polar. If that’s not enough of a battle to draw you in, add that there is a drug ring problem growing and with it danger to the police and citizens. And one of the MCs is caught up in the mess by a past that doesn’t want to let him go.

Good read good pacing

Nette Fortsetzung, jedoch kein wirkliches Re-Read-Potential.

All the books in this series are basically the same. Two men with family issues are forced to basically live together for X reasons and there’s usually an orphan child/ren they care for. The author is the mm version of Disney - he kills off mothers! Frequently! None of the men have completely supportive family. The non-cop member has a role in solving the cop’s case of the moment, of course.

The books are short novels, maybe not quite a novella, but still not a full novel. The stories have inconsistencies, particularly with the first child’s age. He’s 5, he’s 4, he’s 3 - as the books progress. If you’re going to write a series you NEED to keep your facts straight. The books are all way OVERPRICED for their content. Too short, too similar and inconsistencies.
