A necessidade vital do tema, a beleza e caráter bíblico das exposições, a profundidade das considerações, a variedade dos ensinos práticos, são alguns dos motivos pelos quais muito recomendamos a leitura, em oração, deste preciosíssimo livro que o Senhor agora nos concede compartilhar com muitos irmãos, e com todos aqueles a quem ao nosso Deus aprouver.
Precisamos de orações vivas e de vidas de oração. A oração é para alma o que a respiração é para o corpo. Pelos movimentos desta respiração celeste entendemos que há vida, que estamos vivos; ou não. Precisamos de homens dispostos a orar e não a pecar.
A oração é uma parte natural da adoração a Deus. Mas, para que possa ser aceita, deve ser feita ao Único Deus Verdadeiro, em nome do Filho, com a ajuda do Espírito, segundo a Sua vontade, com entendimento, reverência, humildade, fervor, fé, amor e perseverança (Jo 14:13-14; Rm 8:26; 1 Jo 5:14). Quão diferente isso é do que comumente se chama “orar” para a maioria dos chamados “evangélicos” contemporâneos.
Atualmente, em meio à Cristandade, oração fervorosa é muitas vezes, tristemente, confundida com gritarias, falas ininteligíveis, participação em “campanhas” e “correntes”, determinação de “bênçãos e vitórias”, superstições, e arrogantes e ignorantes solicitações de “promessas” que nunca foram prometidas pelo Senhor na Escritura, e por um conteúdo e intenções humanistas e egocêntricas. Isso tudo é antes uma abominação! Deus livre o Seu povo de tais absurdos!

657 books305 followersArthur Walkington Pink was born in Nottingham, England on April 1, 1886 and became a Christian in his early 20s. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death,' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.
Desiring to grow in knowledge of the Bible, Pink migrated to the United States to study at Moody Bible Institute. In 1916 he married Vera E. Russell, from Kentucky. However, he left after just two months for Colorado, then California, then Britain. From 1925 to 1928 he served in Australia, including as pastor of two congregations from 1926 to 1928, when he returned to England, and to the United States the following year. He eventually pastored churches Colorado, California, Kentucky and South Carolina.
In 1922 he started a monthly magazine entitled Studies in Scriptures which circulated among English-speaking Christians worldwide, though only to a relatively small circulation list of around 1,000.
In 1934 Pink returned to England, and within a few years turned his Christian service to writing books and pamphlets. Pink died in Stornoway, Scotland on July 15, 1952. The cause of death was anemia.
After Pink's death, his works were republished by the Banner of Truth Trust and reached a much wider audience as a result. Biographer Iain Murray observes of Pink, "the widespread circulation of his writings after his death made him one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century." His writing sparked a revival of expository preaching and focused readers' hearts on biblical living.

A Biblical Explanation of Prayer
This is less a how to book of prayer than a biblical discussion of it. Pink uses several passages of prayer to discuss its importance and application. Anyone use to today's fluff may find it difficult reading, but it's worth the effort.

Pink is a master expositor. The way he gleans from a text and applies it really amazes me. In considering some of the prayers from the New Testament, he does some of the best biblical expositions I've ever read.

The title misled me a bit.
It’s less of a “guide to fervent prayer” and more of an exegetical analysis of some passages containing prayers in the New Testament.
Even so, they’re very good analyses! A. W. Pink brings some great insights, especially regarding Peter’s texts.

Mr. Pink's austere, prickly personality unfortunately precedes him, flaring up throughout the book's contents. This proclivity in his writing style mars his message. Pass on this one - there are other works on the subject of prayer more deserving than this one.

Excelente livro de A.W. Pink onde aborda várias passagens bíblicas acerca da oração e como elas se aplicam as nossas vidas. O autor trata desse tema fundamental para a vida Cristã nos incentivando a vida de oração e abrindo nosso entendimento sobre oração. Um clássico, na minha opinião.
