Deputy Grace Eberly can outshoot and outride most men in Esperanza, Colorado…but lassoing a husband is an impossible task. At least she has her good friend Reverend Micah Thomas to keep her company. When outlaws threaten their community, the two join forces to stop them, and Grace's feelings for the reverend deepen. But she's sure he'd never love a too-tall cowgirl in trousers and boots.
Micah believes that it's time to find himself a wife—someone sweet and ladylike who can help him better serve the town. So why do none of the elegant young women of his acquaintance stir his heart like the feisty tomboy deputy? As they work to bring peace to the community, will Grace and Micah finally see that they make the perfect team?
Louise M. Gouge is one of my very favorite authors, so I was delighted to receive this book to read & review. I knew her story wouldn’t disappoint…and it didn’t. Gouge is a master of dialogue, so there’s great interaction between the unlikely heroine, tomboy Grace Eberly (also a gun-tottin’ deputy) and the sought-after hero, Reverend Micah Thomas. Good friends, they are so busy protecting one another from aggressive women and pushy suitors, one wonders if they will ever realize their true matches are nearer than they think!
This is my first Love Inspired Historical and I enjoyed it very much. Especially fun to read at Christmastime, but one would relish this read any time of year. Also a treat to my inner cowgirl, who loved the talk of Grace riding her rounds to check on the community amid concerns of outlaws, then teaching the Rev to shoot. It’s good fun to watch her worry about her reputation at spending time alone with him, while also noting no one seems to consider her a lady in her jeans & badge anyway, so maybe her reputation is safe. Is that a plus or a minus?
Gouge paints a vivid picture of Esperanza, Colorado, an authentic, though fictive, old west town. Amid a setting of good folks and bustling businesses, a gang threatens to harm the citizens. Armed with a newly deputized posse and hefty doses of prayer, Grace and the Reverend seem a good team to keep the peace.
Will they become a team in life as well as a team for the law? You’ll enjoy the journey as you find out.
This was a sweet story that takes place in the old west about finding love right in front of your face. While this was not a book I would have chosen on my own, it was an enjoyable read.
The heroine is a female deputy. The hero is the town preacher. Once again, I enjoyed the heroine's strength, determination and independence. She also held a rather unique role in a very small town. Realistic? I'm not one-hundred percent sure... but it is a work of fiction, so it's all good. At times I wished that the hero was a little more alpha - okay, I know that this is a Harlequin Love Inspired read, but it is just my own personal preference.
Don't let the title fool you - only the final few chapters had anything to do with Christmas... then again, I have nothing against reading Christmas - themed books throughout the year.
Will begin "Cowboy Homecoming" by Louise M. Gouge tonight!
Sweet story with an oblivious rev and brave deputy. While Gracr is brave it felt like she was described that way a lot. I also really felt for her when she was feeling the Lost of her friends/sisters.
Time seemed to move all over the place. I would think it was a week but suddenly I'd read a "two months later."
Really admire the faith of those people that moved across country by wagon train or early trains. They faced harsh weather, was not sure if their crop would survive from one year to the next. Micah the Pastor of a small town feels it time for him to find a wife, Grace the deputy of this small town and his best friend is the woman the Lord leads him to but she don't feel as if she is lady like, she is a tomboy. God looks at the heart not the outside appearance. In this book their are some outlaws that has escaped from prison who is seeking revenge on this small town. If you like historical stories you will enjoy this.
Moral of this story: what you wear doesn't matter, it's your person that's important. Grace kinda reminds me of myself in the way that I'm not keen on dressing myself up: jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers are the most comfortable things around. I may not be tall, but I played soccer since kindergarten and my calves show it (in full gear, they could pull off looking like a football players!). I always pull my hair back and have even been mistaken for a guy in the past. So, I completely relate to her lol.
The girl's got grit and Micah is the only one (male) who seems to see both sides. He just needed the proverbial push to get him to see how she would be perfect for him xD
