Four future AFL stars under one roof!? Go back to where it all began with THE SELWOOD BOYS ... In the Selwood house, there's madness and mayhem every day - and footy, of course!
Meet the Selwood boys ...
There's the twins, Troy and Adam, pulling pranks and making mischief, then Joel with his sneaky, cheeky antics, and finally little Scott, who just does his best (or make that his worst!) to keep up. Can Joel finally get off the sidelines and onto the footy field to play with his big brothers? It'll be a battle royale that's bound to involve the whole family!
Ages 7-12 PRAISE 'the perfect suggestion for readers of Specky Magee ... a fantastic tale for all young readers, aged seven and up, with a love for the game.' Books+Publishing, Four stars
What a fun book this was for kids...any kids, not just football kids! It is a story of four boys, growing up and the mischief they get up to. This first book in the series is about Joel and his devotion towards becoming a football player instead of just a boundary umpire. It is about four boys who band together for one another in the face of adversity but most of all, it is about four boys who are brothers and everything that goes along with that. In reading just the first page I was giggling and had images of my 3 nephews doing exactly that on the trampoline (except that in todays world there is a safety net around it). My biggest fear in reading this book is that my middle nephew will see this as a how to book...how to get up to mischief and possibly get away with it :) This is a rollicking read that is perfect for fans of AFL, of the Geelong Cats and of the Selwood Boys but it is also perfect for any youngster who wants to read about sport and about having fun. It is a perfect book for brothers, so they can see that their relationships aren't so different from other people. It is a perfect book for 8-12 year olds to read themselves, or for 5-7 year olds to have it read to them, a chapter a night. It is GREAT family viewing!
I love AFL and I grew up reading the Specky Magee books so when I saw this at Big W I had to pick it up. This book is a lot of fun! I was laughing throughout quite a bit of this book, which made the cat look disdainfully at me a few times. I really enjoyed this and if you know any footy mad kids then I definitely recommend this book for them!
This is a fun read about four brothers, Troy, Adam, Joel and Scott Selwood, who all love and are very good at Aussie Rules. They play football all day long, inside their house, in the garden, on the trampoline, on the street, and wherever possible. Joel doesn’t play for a team yet; he’s too young, but he is as close to his brothers Troy and Adam’s games as possible. He’s the line umpire. This is great for seeing the game but leads to him being teased about not having the ability to play in a team. How does Joel prove he is the player to beat? I enjoyed the humour and reality of growing up in a highly talented and competitive family. Recommended for any reader eight years or more who enjoys sport, particularly Aussie Rules.
Even non-footy loving readers of all ages will love this book. A great start to the series and I can not wait to find out what the Selwood brothers get up to next.
