Slade 'Slaughter' Clark

I'm a southern college football star in my senior year, and all eyes are on me, just the way I like it.

I'm not riding a wave to the NFL. I am the wave, and everyone knows it, including my fans, opponents, coaches, every NFL agent who matters, and the hot little chicks who follow me around.

I'm the whole package...with a package that leaves chicks wanting more.

There's just one exception. Cassidy Greyson. She is the uptight cheerleader, my brother's best friend, and a fellow student in a few of my courses. Getting a piece of her is now my informal senior year 'pet' project. Little does she know she's about to be owned.

Cassidy Greyson

I worked my butt off for three school years and two long summers so I could graduate early and get the hell out of my backwater life in Louisiana. Sure, I stuck to the cheerleading, but only because it was a family tradition that my mother insisted I keep up. Just because my older sister, Caroline, fell for the 'be-a-cheerleader-to-marry-an-NFL-star' trap, doesn't mean I want to follow in their footsteps.

This is why Slade 'Slaughter' Clark doesn't have a chance in hell. I've avoided falling for the arrogant jock up until now, and there's no way I'll let him in. My business professor may have thought he was doing us both a favor when he forced Slade and me to partner up for a major project. I just wish I didn't have to stare into his sexy hazel eyes or watch him flex his tight, bulky muscles while we work together.

*Author's note. Go Deep is a full length, standalone story with a HEA ending and no cliffhanger. This story is light on football and heavy on steamy romance.

This was an okay contemporary romance, although making bets about whether you can get someone to sleep with you is never a good idea!

Predictable...

I had a hard time liking the hero from the start...

Then when i actually found the missing link and started to like him just a little bit, it turned into a mushy NA drama with any elements of suspense or eleveation...
So, it was kinda boring... :/

but I truly love SPORT ROMANCEs and i will always go back to this genre, no matter how sometimes they do not completely deliver or pull a touchdown!

1.5 - It was a HOT mess - stars

Wish the content was as yummy as this cover - unfortunately I couldn't really like either MC in this one.

At 5% (Our "hero")
Why she didn't want the honor of me tapping that ass was beyond my understanding. And she was a damn cheerleader. These chicks were supposed to be our number one supporters, for fuck's sake.

At 6% (During a threesome with two random chicks - again our "H")
I didn't even know their names, and I didn't really care. They were groupies, and groupies were a dime a dozen around here.

I'll admit at this point I really wanted to DNF but (this is all on me) I'm a sucker for redeemed ass hat guys but the author really needs to pull out all the stops for this to work for me. So needless to say I kept on reading . . .

At 27% (Still no "turning a new leaf" for this guy in sight)
I had already made out with her earlier in the week, but I wasn't quite ready to break the news to the guys yet. Apparently, there were still a few people who hadn't put any money down. I figured I'd wait until there was enough money in the pot to make it worth it, or until I got her begging me to take her before I told anyone.

Granted he does eventually grow a conscience when he starts to feel something for Cassidy other than a hormonal boner, and he calls off the bet he made with his frat brothers but Slade never really develops any real feelings other than lust.

Cassidy wasn't much better. I didn't understand her at all. She was just so accepting of Slade for being Slade. One minute she had nothing but disgust and disdain for this guy and the next she's dropping her pants for him without batting an eye? But I guess with friends like Miranda, I can't really blame Cassidy for being so weak... (Or can I?)

At 87% (Miranda talking to Cassidy about the bet Slade made)
"Lighten up. We're at college. Guys do that all the time, and trust me, Slade wont be the last to make a bet on your ass."

Followed by . . .
"Slade could have come clean."
"True, but he's a guy. It was just a dumb joke."

WOW! That was like every cliche good ol' boy turd nugget rolled up into one!

This was just an okay read for me and that's stretching it. I didn't really buy Slade's emotional commitment and the I love yous felt like they fell out of nowhere. One and a half stars because if you can stomach the cringe worthy beginning, the middle and ending where actually pretty sweet. I think the author did too good a job of making Slade a man whore jerk. I can root for an ass who really changes for his h but this one didn't give me enough to really buy into the happy ending. I needed more growth from Slade and I just didn't get it.

Not Safe:

Yikes. I wasn't a fan of this book. Cassidy was a stuck up snot and Slade was overly arrogant. And not in the usual way that these types of alpha heroes are. Cassidy was supposed to be the only person on campus that didn't want anything to do with Slade, which she made sure to mention so many times it came off as her gloating about it, but she gave into him so quickly. The progression, or lack thereof, of their relationship was jagged and confusing. In one paragraph she hated him, the next she was going to sleep with him, then she was pushing him away again. After that, they were practically in a relationship? So confusing.

Slade was dumb. I don't understand why him working at a restaurant had to be a big secret. There was nothing threatening him or the frat if it got out, so why wouldn't he tell Cassidy? It seemed like the author was trying to find something for them to argue about. On top of that, he was constantly pushing Cassidy away for lame reasons. I honestly never believed their relationship. It lacked any spark and I never got anything more than lust from their interactions.

The whole bit with Shawn was just ridiculous. I honestly feel like the only reason he was written into the story was so the author could potentially write another book. Which is fine, but then make him a background character.

Miranda was equally a hot mess. I don't understand how she can make out what Slade did as something that's ok and "just a joke". I don't know who lost their dignity more on that situation- Miranda for saying that or Cassidy for going with it.

The dialogue in this book was awful. It was forced and unnatural. I felt the descriptions in the book were better written and the dialogue didn't match that at all. It made me wonder if two different people were writing each part.

Overall, I didn't like this book. I gave it two stars instead of one because something compelled me to finish it. I think I just wanted to see what would come of the whole bet idea and I was sorely disappointed. I don't recommend reading it, but I know I'm the minority in that.

This should be re-named “Boys Will Be Boys.” The entire novel was a huge plot that placated how awful men can be to women, especially within the context of college level varsity sports.

The plot is typical and uninteresting and executed with no emotional depth or growth. The hero, Slade is a panty-melting quarterback who indulges in threesomes every night while balancing his football schedule and 4.0 GPA. His latest obsession is banging the only cheerleader left on campus who he hasn’t slept with. She also happens to be his childhood friend, unethical and mean-spirited much? But the plot thickens when his fellow frat brothers and team members set a bet to see how long it will take to get into the ‘Ice Queen’s’ pants. He enthusiastically goes along, never feeling remorse for his actions, even as feelings of love supposedly develop.

Our heroine is a Southern belle whose goal is to get out of the South and make something of herself through a degree in business. She falls into bed with our hero quickly despite her supposed loathing of him. I could understand this plot twist if there was more backstory explaining that she had always had feelings for him, unrequited love, etc. But there is no reading between the lines with this author, she just throws in new developments with no lead up or background.

When the truth finally comes out the secondary characters blame our heroine for calling him out in front of others (which was apparently ‘bitchy’), and not forgiving him because ‘of course boys will act that way in college, give him some slack.’ Disgusting. While I don’t expect every book I read to have a feminist base to it, this is utterly cruel and unfair to our heroine.

If you’re looking for a strong heroine, go somewhere else. If you’re looking for emotional character development with enticing plot lines, go somewhere else. If you want compelling subtext, go somewhere else. If you are, in any way a feminist, go somewhere else!

Wanted to like this book more

It's true, you can't expect miracles from college sports romances, and this one was better than some but didn't live up to potential.
I like it when the jock is a jerk-I can even live with it if they cross over into major jackass territory. There just needs to be a strong woman there to turn the tables and reel him back in. Slade was more than a jerk but all the same, I liked him. He had a strong personality and was an ego-maniac. It was Cassidy that just fell a little flat. She gave it up too soon, whined or moped when she was treated poorly instead of standing up for herself and just generally let herself get walked over. And it wasn't just Slade doing it. It was his frat brothers, his teammates, the football groupies and a few of the cheerleaders. All she ever had was wimpy one-liners telling them to back off instead of asserting herself and making them. The one time she stood up for herself and told Slade to shove it, everyone told her that she was being unreasonable. Even her roommate, the one she defended and stood by when everyone else shunned her, told her she was wrong. Which is totally breaking girl code to begin with. It wasn't Cassidy's fault Slade refused to tell her the whole story. He was untrustworthy. He was a man-whore. Cassidy had every right to tell him to stick it where the sun don't shine after she found out about the bet, especially since Slade was full of it when he claimed to trust her completely. If he did, he would've come clean about the bet, bussing tables and he would have actually defended her to his friends instead of pretty much feeding her to the wolves and letting them treat her like a piece of meat they could all take a bite out of eventually. I didn't like that everyone defended him just because he was a little stressed.
It just disappointed me a little. Slade needed a stronger woman and Cassidy just didn't fit the role. She doesn't want to be a stay at home football wife who gets forgotten durning football season, but with her personality, I can see that's exactly what's going to happen. His college teammates didn't respect her or their relationship, his pro teammates won't either. This book was just ok when it comes down to it.

I love sports romance and with those comes the typical story lines:
-Jock vs Nerd
-Lets make a bet on sleeping with her
-Sports Agent or Life Coach of some sort
-Inherited Team
-Coach's Daughter
-Player into Boyfriend

You get the point... there is a handful of topics and we beat them into the ground. But: I love Sports! So I don't care.

This Fker though- he has no redeeming qualities. At. All.
Cassidy hates him- not a playful he is a joke so I can't like him. She hates him. She may want to sleep with him but there is no love lost there.
Slade makes a bet on if he can sleep with the "Ice Princess" aka Cassidy. Once again i've read that 100 times doesn't phase me because it normally is in the background and never mentioned again. Not in this book though! It is mentioned at least a dozen times. His male ego is the only reason he has to sleep with her. News flash: that isn't romance

Some other tiny annoying Bullshit:
1. There is over $6000 worth of antiques that the Landlord leaves in the Frat house he is renting. LMFAO No. Who leaves expensive antiques on campus in a house you are renting to the football team.
2. Their 'Business Plan' for class is to help get animals adopted from shelters. "We can even use it to help move animals from some of the pet shops around town as well." WTF? Why would you help Pet stores sell their puppy mill animals? If the author did even 3 second worth of research you'd know that was dumb.
3. "I assumed she wasn't a virgin just because it was so rare to find a firl who made it through high school in the South without putting out." - Excuse me? I don't even need to explain that one.

Normally I love football romance books but I was disappointed in this one. Slade Clark is the QB of the football team and headed for the NFL after finishing his senior year. He's been a man whore all through college but there is one girl he hasn't "bagged" yet.
Cassidy Greyson is known as the Ice Princess. Despite being a cheerleader and beautiful she's working hard on her grades because she doesn't want to end up like her mom and sister. They both went to college to find a rich husband and get married.
Spade pursues Cassidy relentlessly. Of course he's still screwing every girl out there, sometimes two at a time.
A bet is made on whether Slade can f@!k Cassidy before a certain date. (I forgot to mention that Cassidy and Slade grew up together and Slade's younger brother is her best friend.)
There are many activities going on but the bottom line is Slade wins the bet but he doesn't tell anyone because he realizes he feels differently about Cassidy.
Here's where my problem comes in. Even after he realizes he has feelings for Cassidy he lets his friends and teammates trash talk about her like she's a piece of ass to be had and if Slade doesn't get her one of them will. He treats her like crap. He screws her then goes cold on her then comes back. And Cassidy lets him. Oh she gets mad but she always gives in. A second plot twist comes in which brings a little interest to the story and they get their HEA but there are so many questions left unanswered.
This could have been a great story if Slade had at least defended Cassidy once he had feelings for her but he let his buddies keep trash talking about her and referring to her just being another girl to conquest. Plus throughout most of the book he didn't treat her very well.
So despite portraying Cassidy as a strong independent woman, the author lets her demean herself over and over again.
I did love Ms. Love-Wins writing style and would maybe try another one of her books depending on the ratings and reviews.

I really should have stopped when the first chapter included a very description (I mean EXTREMELY descriptive) menage with the H and two other girls. Unfortunately...I wanted to give it a try as I enjoy sports books/romances and I hoped it would get better.

The H was an asshole who made the old "I bet I can sleep with her" bet with his friends. The h was weak who preached about never ending up like her mother and sister (both cheerleaders who married football stars) ONLY to end up EXACTLY LIKE THEM!!

I was disgusted how after years of saying she would NEVER sleep with the H fell into bed with him immediately. Her lack of self respect was further confirmed when it came out about the bet and she was more concerned that he wasn't helping more with their school project. The bet was explained away as "its just something they do...it doesn't mean anything" Ugh...NO!

I found all of the characters rather disgusting. This was my first book by Bella Love Wins and sadly (not really) it will be my last.

I actuall enjoyed this book even though it was a little predictable. I liked what little drama there was got resolved pretty quick so no angst. There was a few quirks throughout the story that I let slide but the biggest reason I gave this book 3 stars over 4 was the ending. There wasn't one. It felt so rushed at the end and then it was over. No epilogue to round it out and smooth the story over. No closure what so ever. It looks like there will be more to the series but with other characters. I would like to see Cassidy's and Slade's story continue. I felt they were good for each other, didn't feel the connection from Slade as much, but it was implied so it helped to bridge their relationship and grow from somewhere.

This story had potential, however, I found it a little lacking. Sure, this storyline has been done before (typical sports/college/big man on campus book). I didn't mind that. When done right I really enjoy that genre, even when it has already been done. Like I said, the story had potential but some things got in the way of giving it a decent review. One small reason being the typos. If you are publishing a book there shouldn't be so many typos (like using the work 'of' instead of 'if'). They didn't interfere with the understanding the story so that was a plus. The story just was lacking and the ending was rushed in my opinion. Also, no epilogue? I love the epilogues (this didn't influence my rating though)! It just didn't do it for me in a genre I typically enjoy.

This was an ok read. Not good. Not bad. Just ok. It's not something I would normally read. The theme was just too shallow. Football star and cheerleader having sex. That's all it was. No real angst. No plot twist. Not even a mean girl to add spice. I'm not even sure about the emotions between the main characters. Slade was just too emotionally shallow. I think he could easily move on to another girl at any point- including the end.

However, I was engaged enough to finish reading this book. No major grammatical or spelling errors. Maybe I would have liked this more if I were interested in football but I'm not

the story started strong and I like where it was going but when then ending was approaching I felt it didn't get the justice it needed...***spoiler alert***

when you find out you were a bet, I would hope you would be a little bit more pissed off...and having your closest/roommate tell you it was all a joke and that it happens and you should roll with it I was not happy...I mean come on your friend should have your back

Great!

I chose this rating because this was a pretty good book. The characters were great and some were very arrogant. Slade was a very cocky football player . He felt like he get anything wanted and when he woman. But Cassidy gave him a run for his money. He had work already getting here. But there is one thing I just really didn't like what he did he made a wager with his buddies at his frat house. What are you live to regret that one. But after a while everything was back to being alright. I really like this book because it dug deep into the college years of a teenager. Great read.

Loved

Football stories have become my all time favorite and this one did not disappoint. We meet Slade the college quarterback who is the jock attitude, Cassidy is the one girl he wants but can't have. Due to having. class together, Cassidy gets to know a different side to Slade, will that be enough to keep a relationship or is it just physical between them. Loved the ups and downs and how they each had to learn to trust

Your going to love this book it's about a cheerleader and a star quarterback n that's only the beginning. Bad blood at a college frat party starts the story off with a bang. And then the book is full of nuances and lots of action. I loved this book so much I also reviewed it on Amazon. (Go check out that review also) - hope this was ok to review in both places .

Go Deep

Cassidy is a cheer leader in college and wanting to get done with college and move on without following in her mothers and sisters foot steps and marrying a jock. Slade is a college jock in football and this is his last year. He's always wanted Cassidy. But will he get her? Good read

it seems like it is not done yet. there's so much going on and the big knots on the trope are not well written and they pass by with you even noticing. The story has potential, but it's a no for me, even In the ending there is still some stuff you don't know how it ends.

I was really pleasantly surprised with this book and honestly really enjoyed it. I have read a few books from Bella Love-Wins now and this one has gone straight to my favorites from her! I am a total sucker for a sports romance, and this easy reading, light-hearted, fun-filled read was great. Now if you are looking for loads of drama and angst, then it's not filled with it (although don't get me wrong there's a little bit of the usual college angst!!) but there is lots of love fun and college shenanigans!!

The book is about about Cassidy Greyson and Slade 'Slaughter' Clark. Cassidy is on the college cheer leading squad and Slade is the football star of school on his way to becoming an NFL superstar. Cassidy's Mother and Sister were both in cheer squads, her sister married an NFL player, and although Cassidy is currently cheering, she doesn't want to go down that stereotypical route like her sister. Cassidy is also best friends with Slade's younger brother, as they all grew up together as neighbors in their hometown in Louisiana. Although Slade and Cassidy go to school together Cassidy is determined not to fall for the full of himself, cocky, in it just for the football and girls, jock!! But Slade has other ideas....

I enjoyed the relationship between Cassidy and Slade from the start. After being forced to spend more time together for reasons out of their hands, they actually end up forming a lovely friendship. We see a different side to Slade. Obviously with any college romance, there are a couple of minor obstacles along the way and things that the couple need to work through. I would have liked to have read a little more about the chemistry between the two characters! Although this book was hot and steamy at times, I actually felt I would have liked more of the build up between the characters, just to add a little more to the story.

But overall it was a really great sports romance with likeable characters. I would like to read more from this story and the characters, maybe exploring 'what happens next' for them, or a book about Evan or even Cassidy's friend Miranda and Shawn?

**** 4 solid stars! ****

Argh, this was so bad! I can deal with a bad boy who's a jerk at the beginning but slowly changes and grows when he meets someone special, in fact I even like that kind of story line. But this was not the case here. Slade was basically a jerk for 90% of the book - so what exactly did Cassidy fall in love with?

As for Cassidy, talk about rolling over way too quickly and giving in to her simmering passion after supposedly stalwartly refusing to become a notch on Slade's bedpost. And, she seemed to be totally okay when he'd blow her off and then go wandering off with a couple of chicks on his arm - all she cared about was that he wasn't getting the project done, never mind that he might be going off to sleep with these girls when he's been sleeping with her! No normal girl would be that easy going!!!

Basically, the way the characters acted and reacted made absolutely no sense. Nor could I sense any real connection between them beyond the physical. Neither Slade or Cassidy was particularly likeable or relatable and they both acted like petulant, immature early teens in their interactions with each other. In fact, basically all they did was argue or have sex, with very little real conversation between them. There was nothing believable about their journey towards love and when they apparently did get there, it was a huge let down, with none of the emotion I'd been hanging in there until the end to read.

And the editing wasn't great either with glaring errors that made the read even less enjoyable. I wouldn't bother with this book and to be honest, I won't be bothering with this author again either - the story was simply too shallow and lacked real characters you can relate to. If I can't emotionally invest in the characters and their story what's the point?!?!

This is the first Bella Love-Wins book for me and I know she is quite prolific. I don’t know what I expected but I was a bit disappointed in the writing. There were a lot of places I wanted to edit and send to her to fix. One sentence is right at the beginning.

“Your muscles are so firm,” Blondie moaned out behind me, kissing shoulders and running hot hands down over my chest.”

It seems sloppy when read alone, but the missing context is he is with two girls and I had to read this sentence a few times trying to figure out who was kissing shoulders and whose shoulders were being kissed. For having so many books I thought the grammar and clarity would be more consistent but the book is full of these.

The story itself was pretty okay. Pretty much manwhore wants good girl, good girl hates manwhore. The twist is that the manwhore has known the good girl all her life and the good girl is the manwhore’s brother’s best friend. Slade really is an asshat just looking to bag her for the sake of doing it, but then he falls for her and they are in this relationship-not-relationship until his shiftiness comes to light and the fall out of sleeping with her best friend’s brother affects her friendship.

I do have to say that Cassidy is one of my more liked heroines. She isn’t stupid, tries to avoid things that are bad for her, and she has a great sense of self awareness. I’d even go so far as to say she is chock full of self respect and does things that don’t endanger that, until she does--but we are all human.

There is a second book in this series but I just didn’t have it in me to take on another Bella Love-Wins right away… I did buy it though and intend to read it at some point.

I knew from the title that this was going to be a book to do with Football, being honest even though I don’t actually watch football myself I do enjoy reading about it. As in books there are no rules, you can pretty much make things up and they all fit together. I enjoyed the storyline and the plot, however the one thing that I didn’t like or think worked well was Cassidy the main lead female character, yes this is going to shock a few of you as it’s not often when I don’t exactly like a character. However in this case I found it quite irritating when Cassidy refused to acknowledge or even want to work with Slade, yes he might be a womaniser and only care about football but he deep down does care about Cassidy. I understand that considering she is best friends with his brother that she may not see him in that way but you’d think surly that she would at least bother with him and not shut him down.

Other than that she did grow on me but this was towards the end, I’m not going to say what made me change my mind about her because that would ruin the story. I thought that Slade was such a sweet guy despite the fact that he had an attitude problem, yes sometimes I thought that he didn’t need to act the way he did but in a way it brought the whole story together. I’ll be honest just because this wasn’t my favourite book I still think that you should give this a try because of course everyone has different opinions to me. However I am extremely grateful that I have had the chance to read this book.

This was an Amazon freebie I thought sounded like it might be pretty good. But it was ridiculous. The biggest message seemed to be 'boys will be boys' and that it's a privilege for a girl to be chosen as one of the hot football players' next screw. What the fuck.

I expected Cassidy to put up a stronger fight against the star quarterback, Slade's advances. Especially because she has known him pretty much her whole life and knew he was a cocky ass, and said (multiple times no less) that she would never be one of "those girls". But no. She gives in to him at around 30% into the book and then all she can think about is having him again. She got jealous and possessive over him, and no matter how often he lied to her or blew her off she still wanted to be with him. It was stupid.

Slade was the epitome of a cocky ass hole. Yeah, he had a hot body and was a great lay, but there's just no way that every girl would ignore his glaring attitude problem for a one night stand. I did not like him or his personality. Plus I didn't believe the way that he ends up thinking he loved Cassidy after mere hours spending actual time with her and the rest screwing her. The author tried to paint him as having brains as well as brawn, but it all seemed too superficial.

I didn't see any love in their relationship at all. It was all purely lust from what I read. Plus the end with what happens with her best friend was just too convenient and cliche.

I liked it. It wasn’t over the top steamy alpha male about the star QB and cheerleader like I thought it was but it was still okay to read. Cassidy is the only girl on campus that doesn’t give Slade the time of day but when you grew up next door to the guy and has been best friends with his little brother all your life you get to see a side of him that not one ever does.

Cassidy has steered clear of him throughout college and the because of a class project that she needs to graduate, she is partnered up with Slade. Slade has had eyes on her and has made it his person goal during his senior year that he is going to finally get a piece of that. Slade starts to have feelings for her and she finally puts her guard down and lets him in.

The part I didn’t like was how easy Cassidy got over when she found out about the bet he made with his team mate about getting her into his bed. She got over that way too fast for my taste and then flipped it around and she got herself to think that “of course he made bet’, not cool at all. She should have been more pissed and ripped him a new one, oh well. The ending was weak, it was cute but still it was left wide open about the fate of where Slade was going to be drafted and her potential new job was way too flexible about where the job would really be. In the real world that would never happen but I know it’s a book.

Overall, it was just okay.
