One of H.G. Wells' last books (1941) is a fascinating short novel with God as a character who is trying to start the world over again with a new Noah whom he wants to build an ark. Most of the book is Wells bouncing off his philosophizing on war, society, communism, Christianity, etc. Not much plot, but very entertaining. I read its 92 pages at one sitting. It contains interesting in-jokes (references to someone having written "The Time Machine") as well as name-dropping 'Bertie' Russell and other important persons (Voltaire, Lenin, Marx). Not a classic or up to the best of Wells, but a enjoyable light entertainment with many thoughtful concepts and speculations.
